My animals have gone to Dr. Murphy for years. He does excellent work, the prices are reasonable, and the staff helpful. We haven't seen the other doctor, Dr. Carter I believe, too many times but he seems very knowledgeable. Read Less

Your always going to get honesty here even when it hurts. If you are a really sensitive person then you should pay the higher prices and take your animal elsewhere. I myself like the personal feel and knowledge of the longtime vets who work here. Read Less

I love this vet, they have treated my pet and me with care and kindness. They are very good at what they do, they saved my dogs life when 3 other vets didnt know, or they made me feel like they didnt care enough to fimd out what was wrong with my dog.I've been to quite a few vets here in Boise they made me feel like it was more about the $ than my pet. Unfortunately the circumstance were not pleasant. Our silky terrier had cancer to the throat and cut off his air. There was nothing that could have been done since our puppy was too old to undergo surgery safely. We had the decision to put him to sleep. The vet was very understanding and gentle. He was also very empathetic to us. He let us out the side door to avoid upsetting customers. He also made sure the room was quiet when the procedure was done so he wasn't in agonizing pain. I live near this animal hospital, and today a peaceful dog got loose and ran into their field. Apparently these people dont know how to handle animals. Not to mention the threats coming from their mouths. Be very careful when entrusting your animals to this place. After what they did to this poor dog i wouldn't trust their professionalism. When our dog got sick Dr. Tim and the rest of the staff were great. He did the best he could for Charlie while never giving false hope, which I appreciated, and didn't try to get us to spend a bunch of money on unnecessary treatments and tests. When we had to out Charlie down, the whole staff was caring and respectful. Everyone was great. I recommend Animals R Us to anyone looking for a caring, compassionate vet clinic.Read Less

I am so grateful for this clinic! A couple months ago my dog had a very infected and absesced tooth. She was in a lot of pain but I couldn't afford to pay the $1200 that another clinic wanted to charge me for things that were unrelated. I'm a student living paycheck to paycheck. The staff were so friendly when I went in and told me they would see what they could do for me in price because I had told them I only had a certain amount of money to my name. The Dr was fast, calming and educational. And the people at the front desk were so kind to me. In the end, the procedure was within my budget and I am eternally grateful to have found this place. Awesome clinic! Dr. Murphy and his associates have a genuine interest in keeping your animals healthy. Front staff is MUCH more relaxed than you might be used to, but they're great at their job and keep all the owners at ease because they are so easy to talk to. Definitely a 'farm house doctor', not a boutique clinic; making the exceptional care very well priced. Emergency stitches with anesthesia only cost about $450 with meds!Read Less

WARNING!!! I brought our dog in for heavy breathing, nothing major. Diagnosed it as either pneumonia or congestive heart failure. Gave us an antibiotic for the possible pneumonia. Antibiotic had steroids in it, which increases fluids in the lungs in dogs with congestive heart failure. Knowing full well that this could hurt my dog if it did have congestive heart failure. Gave it a half dosage when we got back. It died from fluid in its lungs within four hours. I couldn't give any lower of review but I just want to warn everyone. Do Not Go! Read Less

Was my past veterinary office. Dr. Tim had taken care of my animals since 1985. I recently had to find a closer vet and Tim suggested a clinic for me! We have taken our pets to Dr. Murphy for years now. He is the only vet I've found in our area that is willing to work on our Fennec Fox. Dr. Murphy was gentle, and thorough, and did a great job with his stitches. He even fit us in IMMEDIATELY, even though he was the only doctor in the office, and was slam packed full. If I could give a 0 star review, I would. Worst vet office in Boise, Hands down. My girlfriend, Amity-Joe already posted the situation in her review, which Animals-R-Us has already responded to, so I won't go into all the details again of our visit. Read her review if you are curious... All I will say is spend the extra money and go to a vet that will actually perform the procedure you ask them to. Their staff does not communicate and best case scenario they will "apologize for their oversight". If you love your fur baby... Go somewhere else... This is the worst vet I have ever been too. I called and set up an appointment to have my pup (11 months old) to have his tooth extracted and to be neutered. I made it clear many times throughout scheduling the appointment, confirming the appointment, and even this morning when dropping him off that his tooth was my main concern. If I could give zero stars, I would. The vet I normally go to had been a little pricey the past few visits, so I wanted to see if a different clinic would give the same level of care at a more reasonable price. I brought my sick cat here and was HIGHLY disappointed in the care and cleanliness. The clinic itself is very filthy and disorganized. The office staff was very impolite to me. The vet checked out my cat and they gave me a quote. The quote was very cheap and that's when I decided to take my business elsewhere. I went back to my original vet, and I was told there that Animals R Us is known by all the other vets as, "the worst vet in town." I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TAKING YOUR PETS HERE. Read Less

While I was researching potential veterinarian clinics to care for our puppy I read through a lot of the reviews for several clinics in the Boise area. That was a bad idea, because there are some people who just can't be pleased. However I developed my own reservations, ranging from questionable ethics to clinic cleanliness even after treatment care. So I put my nose to the grind stone and started asking around just to see what I couldn't dig up. And after several hours of phone calls to friends and family, Animals R Us was mentioned and praised more than any of the other veterinarian clinics. However it wasn't until I talked to a member of the Walker family, who by the way recently had to deal with a Parvo stricken puppy that required a lot more care and attention than my own did, that I made the choice to go to this particular clinic. They are affordable and willing to work out a payment plan if there is a need to. The amazingly wonderful staff at Animals R Us saved my 8 year old daughter's dog, Ginger. A beautiful German Shepard, Rottweiler, Chow cross. Thanks to these awesome people, and their blatant display of affection towards our Parvo struck puppy, our 8 year old girl gets to continue growing up with her best friend. From the bottom of my heart, my family and I offer nothing but thanks. I highly praise and recommend this facility. Even with a condition as extreme as Parvo the staff handled themselves in a calm and purely professional manner, despite the fact that I was a complete wreck from dreading the thought of my daughter losing her first pet. Thankfully this was not the case. The staff diligently took extra precautions so that contaminated areas within the facility were minimized. As well as immediately disinfecting anything and everything with Parvocide. They also refused to let new clients through the door due to the highly contagious environment. Which only added to their daily challenges. They displayed and exercised the most extreme caution as well as expressing genuine concerns for my child's dog. So one again from the very depths of my heart, my daughter, and one very lucky puppy named Ginger, thank you for the opportunity and privilege of my daughter getting to keep her best friend around for a lifetime of fun an childhood memories. After sitting in waiting room for an hour past when appointment was, I took my dog back to get checked out. It is an old pug that obviously has some health issues. He recently started having wheezing breathing problems and some nose drainage that sometimes has blood in it. The doc looked at him visually for about a second, said he has some vision loss due to age, dental problems, and the blood coming out of his nose was normal. He said I could give you antibiotics but it probably won't help, really? Because it seems to me that you either need antibiotics or you don't. He also said he could have seasonal allergies or he might not- this was his diagnosis for the breathing problems. I'll remind you this is a pug- so there's a number of reasons why he could have breathing problems but the doc wrote him off the second he walked in the door. The only time he touched him was with a stethoscope to listen to his heart. So I guess if you have an elderly dog you might want to go to a vet that cares because these people will write you off as a loss the second you walk in. I walked in there knowing what was wrong with him and walked out $50 poorer. Who knows if he has an infection causing the nose drainage issue or allergies, because he wasn't examined for anything. Who knows if he has anything wrong with lungs/ breathing because he wasn't examined. He told me a possibility of a couple things that could be wrong, asked the vet tech to trim his nails while he was there and snuck out of the room without saying a word. I will take him somewhere with a vet that is more qualified and cares. I realize he is old and won't live forever but his quality of life is good besides that so we wanted to see if there was something that would help him for the time he has left but animals r us is definitely not the place to get any educated options for him. So if you're looking for a place, I'd suggest to go somewhere the vets still enjoy their job and want to help.Read Less

ARU removed a tumor from our Golden retriever. Thy told me that it was benign without any biopsy being done. The tumor came back so I took her to a different vet who did in fact determine that the tumor was a cancerous mast cell tumor. How do you remove a tumor without knowing what type of tumor you are dealing with? Plus, Dr Murphy has lost touch with is clients. We got pushed to every vet in his office because he was too busy even though we were scheduled to see him! Moving on! Read Less

I called in and got a quote over the phone from an employee there. Based on that quote I made an appointment and got my dog fixed. My husband picked up the dog for me and gave me the receipt when he returned. I immediately called because the quote was $120.00 and was charged $170.00. When I dropped the dog off that morning I was assured that she would receive pain medicine during the surgery and some would come home for us with her as part of the cost of the surgery. No pain medicine came home with my dog at all, she laid here crying in pain. I immediately called and the attitude was use the pain medicine that I paid for that we received for our other dogs (Large 100 + pound dogs) when the dog fixed was 17 pounds. I left a message for the office manager to call me, no call back. I called in again and asked for the manager to call, guess what no call back. I then called in again and left yet another message, still waiting to hear on that one. I asked for someone else and no one else is available. I would not recommend them because they are not true to there word and to send a dog home in the pain my dog was was not acceptable and lack of follow through on there end was absolutely unprofessional and not trust worthy. If you truly love your animal you will not bring it to this facility, the lack of caring I have encountered on this visit shows where the ethics truly lie. Read Less

I have only been a client for about one year, yet I already feel at home. I have taken in 2 cats and my mother's dog. We have always been treated with care and compassion, and all of the doctors and techs really know their business. The office people are wonderful and willing to work out a payment for you. We took baby our cat that someone left in our yard to be checked over. We will never go any place else, they are our vet forever. We had Pets First for our vet for 20 years and will never go back. They all really love pets and they are VERY reasonable on there prices about $100.00 cheaper than anyone else. We highly recomend them to everyone!! Dr. Renner is a great careing vet. Read Less

Dr. Tim Murphy is an OUTSTANDING vet - genuinely and sincere about the care of your pets / animals and VERY customer (you) service oriented. I have gone to him for 10+ yrs. I am VERY pleased w/ his service and bed side manners. At the same time, I am VERY disappointed in his SENIOR citizen discount. My bill = 0.01% discount. I am 65 yrs old and saved $0.08 on a $160 + visit. So there is virtually "NO" discount ...! $80 was for labs that were sent out of office with NO discount, thus an $0.08 discount on the office visit / annual exam which = $80. Dr. Murphy has been my vet for years. I wouldn't trust anyone else to take care of my pets. I have 3 dogs, and one of them contracted Parvo. She was so sick that I thought she was dying. I took her to Animals "R" Us for Dr. Murphy to take a look at her. She ended up being there for 5 days. Dr. Murphy and his well trained staff saved my dogs life and I am so greatful. You can tell they have a love for animals. The place was packed very early in the morning on our first visit.But the number on the www.yellowpages.com is wrong. It really is 853-3535. The number that is online is their fax number.The customers there were happy people and happy to bring their pets in. They have senior discounts and focus on what is important, animal health.
