Receptionist was extremely rude! Delayed giving me information multiple times because she was too busy telling me to “calm down”. I just needed to be connected to their meridian office (which I called, but the call kept connecting to garden city). Yes, I was upset and crying a little because my dog had just ripped his dewclaw off, but I wasn’t hysterical or anything. Told me I could come to the ER and wait “five hours” to have his claw checked, or go somewhere else. When I finally reached their meridian office, they told me it would be $700 to sedate him and cut his claw. Unbelievable. Read Less

Unless you want a misdiagnosis, don't go here. They are no longer the only 24 hour emergency vet in town. They unfortunately missed that my dog had cancer and it did not get treated soon enough. We finally went for a second opinion but it was too late. This did not happen just once with one doctor, it happened twice as another doctor misdiagnosed an eye problem. They have so many problems, not just with the Doctors but also with billing and they even gave me a wrong prescription- wrong milligrams for body weight. Save yourself a lot of trouble and heart ache and go to another vet or seek a second opinion no matter what! Read Less

For nothing but taking her temperature! Service is horrible. It was late in the evening when we noticed she was very sick, West Vet apparently is the only Vet open after hours. We took our little Yorkie to her regular vet for a routine dental cleaning. During preanesthetic blood work, the regular vet noticed a BIG problem and immediately referred us to West Vet. We were a “transfer” patient and the WV staff were patiently waiting for us when we got there. We were promptly taken to a private room and cared for by amazing staff. They took great care in making sure my girl was taken care of and took their time explaining the findings and testing proced...ure. Dr. D. Hume also called me personally and reiterated the treatment plan. A week later, we returned to see Dr. Arndt for a cardiac exam, which I found to be incredibly thorough and, again, well explained. Due to the medical issues we are faced with, we will be making WV our primary vet clinic without hesitation. I was extremely satisfied with our care and wouldn’t hesitate to refer my friends and family to WV for their pets’ needs. Thank you West Vet!! Bella loves you! Mehr anzeigen Read Less

My 14+ year old Pomeranian had been under the care of cardiologist Dr. Jason Arndt since we moved to Boise 5 months ago. She declined rapidly last week and we had to let her go on Sunday. Through it all, the benign and the tragic, Dr. Arndt has been unfailingly responsive, supportive, and trusted to navigate the best care for our much-loved dog. He consistently made himself available to us for questions and recommendations, and did everything within his purview to guide us informatively as Lily was nearing the end. With his help, we were confident we did everything we could for her and also saved her from suffering. They were compassionate and caring during the whole process. I went in the middle of the night as I work nights and didn't want the place busy to stress my dog out even more. The medical staff is amazing. They did an incredible job on my dogs broken leg and they were very communicative and courteous. However, the receptionists gave me a complex. Last year when I had to go there often due to my dogs surgery, the staff would engage in what looked like pretty candid criticism about my partner and I. It was only more suspected when they would treat both of us coldly but be sincere with other customers. I've racked my brain trying to figure out why this would happen, as we always paid on time and were punctual to all of our appointments. I let it go completely, but when I called the other day due to an incident with my dog a woman was again cold, condescending and refused to offer any advice. Maybe this is just my experience and I hardly ever write reviews on here but it happens EVERY TIME I come here or call. I've never dreaded going to a medical facility or any other out of fear that I would be shamed, made fun of, or dismissed. All of this said- Westvet will do an amazing job with your animal and I would highly recommend the surgeons. You might just have to chisel through some cold interactions first. Read Less

My dog was ran over a few weeks ago on a Saturday, I phoned my vet, the answering machine said after hour emergencies could be dealt with at WestVet. We went there where they took X-rays and said that she had a broken femur and didn’t know when the surgery could be performed that the surgeon does surgeries on the weekend sometimes. Well he didn’t in our case. I received a call on Monday that the surgeon couldn’t even do the surgery on Monday because they got busy with other s...urgeries, then of course the surgeon called and said that he didn’t feel she was stable enough for surgery because she was anemic and needed a blood transfusion, how can I say no with my dog drugged laying in their hospital? So FINALLY on Tuesday they did the surgery but I couldn’t get her until Thursday because they needed to monitor her. What? So financially initially they said on the high end it would be approximately $2,500.00. We paid $1,694.96 then while she was there waiting they raised the price to no more than another $2,000.00 which required another payment of half and the balance when we picked her up, so two payments of $1,800.00. When we picked her up they asked for another $1,200.00 on top of the $1,800.00 balance we agreed upon because we didn’t have a choice! Well we were understandably upset so the lady said, “well we did agree to the original price and you might’ve made a different decision if you’d known the price difference so just pay what we agreed upon.” Now after that whole disaster I’m getting a bill for $1,179.24! Really? You said my dog would most likely walk again! She still can’t and you can tell she can’t feel her leg! Do you think maybe if the surgery was done on Saturday night the surgery would’ve been successful? I’m pissed and sick over this! Malpractice and extortion all the way! Mehr anzeigen Read Less

WestVet saved my dog's life not once, but twice! They made the difference between having to say goodbye to my best friend and giving her a second chance at a long and healthy life. Their team of amazing surgeons saved my dog's life when she needed an emergency splenectomy. Then their team of compassionate and caring oncologists and technicians helped guide us through 6 months of intense chemotherapy to help destroy the lymphoma that had caused all our spleen issues in the first place. Yes, they are expensive, but when it comes to the love of your best friend, they're worth every damn dollar. I can't say enough good about the team at WestVet. I get that, however your job is to help animals. Not once did she offer any other solution to help us. She just stromed off to talk to the doctor. Back in December, our black lab, Zoë seemed to be experiencing some trouble breathing. We took her into our regular vet, Intermountain Pet Hospital. They did an X-ray and determined that her chest cavity was filled with fluid, causing pressure to be applied to her lungs. They narrowed the diagnosis down to two things, and told us that they were ill-prepared to handle either scenario so we were referred to WestVet. We rushed Zoë across town to WestVet, and the emergency team ...immediately took her back to get her some much needed oxygen and drain the fluid from her chest. They determined she had a form of cancer, and referred us to the oncology team, so that we could figure out the prognosis and our options. For the last three months, Dr. Hume and her team worked with us, explaining everything each step of the way, with honesty and compassion, even checking up on her almost daily while she struggled the most. Unfortunately, Zoë took an unexpected turn for the worse this week and passed quickly at home, but even after that heart breaking event, Dr. Hume reached out to us with compassion. We are forever grateful for the help, love and kindness she showed our family and our Zoë, and wouldn’t hesitate to bring our pets there in the future, despite the long distance drive from our home. Many, many thanks to Dr. Brandt, Dr. Hume and their teams (with special love to technician Brooke). They made a very difficult time more hopeful and comfortable for our sweet girl, and gave us three more months with her. Mehr anzeigen Read Less

When my dog passed away I took her to Westvet to have her cremated. She was in my family for 11 yrs. and meant the world to me and having the staff handle her the way that they did was such a relief and very helpful. They were entirely empathetic and caring. They brought out a clean & comfortable stretcher for her to get from my truck to their facility which l was not expecting. As she was already passed it obviously was not entirely needed, but the attention to detail was greatly appreciated and definitely put me more at ease as I knew she was in great hands. Westvet went above and beyond our expectations! We had to make a late night ER visit with our very sick 13 year old golden retriever. The staff was very kind and compassionate and professional. Dr. Fitzgerald was wonderful! She was compassionate, but gave us straightforward information. We didn't feel pressured at all and appreciate that they gave us the opportunity to make choices right for us. And we left with a bill much lower than I had expected. Unfortunately, it wasn't good news for us and our good boy went downhill quickly. We were faced with saying goodbye without as much time to plan as we had anticipated. While we didn't want to have our final moments in a vet hospital, that was the choice we had to make and now I'm glad it happened that way. Westvet gave us comfort and compassion we never expected. They took us quickly back to their comfort room, which was warm and homey. We were able to spend as much time as we needed saying goodbye to our beloved boy and he was so peaceful and relaxed at the end. TOTAL SCAM!!!! If you love your pet you will stay far away from this awful place. I woke up to my beloved furry daughter having seizures one morning and called ahead to let them know we were coming. The moment we walked in the door they waved a paper in my face saying I "Had to sign it" basically giving them permission to charge me $300-$500 upfront. I declined and requested to see the vet first. The entire time I was there they tried getting more money out of me. Proposing a $2000 "treatment plan" to hook her up to machines for 24 hours. 2 hours later of trying to get more money from me they sent me out the door bawling with my nearly dead dog saying they don't know what's wrong with her. They should have told me she was too far gone and let me spend those last few hours with her instead of trying to squeeze money from my purse. This place takes advantage of people in their desperate time of need to make a profit. We took my baby straight to the Humane Society and immediately were taken into a room with the vet where she comforted me and said it's best not to let an animal seize to death. (Which is EXACTLY what WestVet was doing to my dog) so we had her put to sleep immediately. They didn't even charge me for the euthanasia because of how distraught I was. I'm glad we ended her last few minutes in a decent caring facility and not at that horrible WestVet which should be shut down! Read Less

Thank you to Dr Walker for reassuring me he would be fine and allowing me to follow up with the doctor I work for. Carrie Hume had been taking care of my beloved dog Leroy who was diagnosed with mast cell cancer. I am so thankful for the care and treatment he received. He was able to live almost 1.5 years after being diagnosed with the treatment Dr Hume recommended. We we never pressured to try certain treatreatments and she always supported our decision and said it was a good one. Yes it was costly but I would do it again, because I loved him so much and he had a great life. Also want to think Brooke she was great with him and I knew they were treating him with love. We moved in October and his new vet was just not the same I truly recommend west Vet! We lost Leroy on January 2nd that was a very sad day. Finding the right vet for your pet is a matter of life and death. WestVet is incredible. After five horrible days, two other vets, and hundreds of dollars for people to do a few X-rays, prescribe a few random antibiotics and tell us, "I don't really know what's wrong," WestVet was finally able to figure out our pug likely has a blood clot in his lungs, and is bleeding. (We are trying not to wonder what would be if the first vets had paid more attention, including the other 24/7 Vet hospital in town.) He's been in an oxygen chamber two nights, and can't breathe outside of it yet. All we can do is wait a few more days and pray the medications work. We are grateful to WestVet, no matter the outcome. It's been like talking to true animal physicians and specialists who really know what they're doing, which is complicated with animals. They've provided valuable information about outcomes and risks, and helped us make good decisions for our dog. Yes, emergency vet care is expensive, but here it's actually worth it. Please put their number in your phone for emergencies. And please keep our little man in your heart. Read Less

I came to these people in a time of crisis. I had a very sick pet and virtually no other options. I told them my pay schedule and how much to take out when and they were all smiles and agreed. Then I lost my house and my job and informed them I would pay what I could when I could. That's when they turned mean. I think it ended up in collections for a small sum. Which I paid off. That was 5 years ago. Fast forward to today and having taken in my best friends therapy dog for parvo treatment upon recommendation of our family vet, I was an emotional wreck, and mistakenly put myself down as the owner. They made it very clear without words that they would not treat her unless we paid the $1300 bill upfront, which is funny because I don't know of any other urgent care treatment place that requires payment before treatment. We took out loans, took out new credit cards, applied for care credit. We realized the ownership mistake the next day and went to correct it, after I had spoken on the phone with them regarding billing and told them that we would have the money Monday or Tuesday at the latest and fully intended to pay them. They turned around and told my best friend that we would have all the money when we picked her up Monday and made it very clear they were ending her treatment because they had left a bad review. I'm genuinely afraid that we're going to get her home and that she'll get worse. Based on other reviews I've seen we've people said they let animals die if the owners can't afford treatment. I'll be recommending to my vet that they send their patients elsewhere for urgent care because the stark difference between a vet that cares and a vet that cares about money is something no one should experience. Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing people working here that genuinely care about the animals, but the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Read Less

I was introduced here after meeting my fiance. Two of her (our) dogs have now had three TPLOs here, and several emergency visits when introducing our dogs. The staff is generally great, and the doctors are top notch. As far as I know, WestVet has the only board certified surgeons in the valley, and that means a lot to me. At one point, I had to run in there in only my underwear, in the snow, covered in blood, on Christmas Eve to have my dog stabilized and treated who was gushing blood from an artery. By then he was semi conscious. No doubt had experienced severe damage. Considering his age, thought it best for him to have him euthanized. At West vet we were shuttled off into a room, there was no table on which to place him. We held him on out laps. Very long wait. Then he was take to have IV placed in leg for the procedure. Then he was brought back in to the room we were in. They laid him on the floor on a dirty blanked. After another long wait, some one came in and did not introduce herself, and administered the drug. We finally just picked her up at around 5 pm on the 4th day and she was supposed to have 7 different kind of pills per day and she only received 1 of the 7 by the vet for the day. We have had to force feed her along with forcing her pills down her throat at the house and she is drinking water when the vet told us she refuses to eat or drink. She has not thrown anything up either, I feel the vet did not do enough for the amount of money they charged us. They wanted to give her another test that would have been over $2,000 above the already $2,700 that we already paid even though if her test came out positive for her issue they already have her on meds that they would give her if it was positive. They also wanted to give her another ultra sound even though, she already had 2 there. RIDICULOUS! We will never go there again and will never talk to them about this issue again.Read Less

I unfortunately had to rush my kitten to WestVet on Tuesday evening after work. He had become hypoglycemic due to having diarrhea for 48 hours and vomiting for a time period less than 10 hours (the time I was at work, the vomiting started some time after I left in the morning and stopped prior to my arrival back at my home). I had to go to West Vet since it was 7pm and they were the only clinic in town open 24 hours.... Also, this was an emergency situation. From the moment I walked in, all staff members were very prompt and kind. They took Rupert to the back immediately for urgent care. His temperature had dropped so low they could not register it on their thermometer. After a terrifying 30 minutes or so, I was shown to a room and had an opportunity to have a conversation with Rupert's veterinarian. Dr. Lindberg was very comforting as I was sobbing the entire time we spoke. I opted to continue Rupert's care in order to give him an opportunity at life... I had previously found him in a dumpster, so I believe he is my responsibility to care for and to give him the best life possible.Of course care at West Vet was very expensive... However, they were able to revive my kitten which I feel is priceless. I also appreciated that I could call any time (really any time, they have staff there 24 hours to answer questions) and ask for an update on Rupert. They always took the time to speak with me and let me know his prognosis (I believe I called 4 times in a 20 hour period). Prior to leaving Rupert for the evening, they gave me the opportunity to go in back to say goodnight to him. He was under a blanket with numerous surgical gloves filled with warm water surrounding him and a dextrose catheter drip to increase his blood sugar. It was very scary for me to see him so sedated (without an sedation) but it was excellent to see first hand the care they were giving him. He had two vet techs assigned to him when his vitals were so low and they were still trying to figure out what was wrong with him and what his treatment plan would be. They were focusing on the things they could control. Which gave me peace of mind. When I went to pick Rupert up, Brandy (the vet tech who cared for Rupert on his final day there) took plenty of time to review his medical care he received there and continued care for when I took him home. She also gave me a few extra cans of kitten food to ensure I wouldn't have to worry about going to the store right after picking up poor Rupert. Also, upon check out, I did receive a small refund back on my credit card from the deposit I had placed the previous evening. That was a nice little treat instead of having to pay more.To sum up this review, I am happy to give WestVet a 5 star review because of their customer AND patient care. I hope I don't have to take Rupert back to WestVet for any urgent care... But two of his vet technicians asked me to bring him back so they could see him grow up. I am beyond happy to share Rupert's progress with the individuals who saved his life. Read Less

Giving 1 star because I can't give Negative or NO Stars. We woke up to Jasper Howling this morning. He has a urinary blockage that was deemed an emergency by an "Emergency Vet" who refused to treat him because we could not give them $1700 bucks upfront (had the same procedure done on a previous cat at a different emergency vet (on Cole Rd) for 800 bucks a few years back, so I know how inflated that estimate was). After miscommunicating for a long while, I told them to give my my cat (actually, my husband told them because they overheard him telling me on the phone to get the hell out of there). I was sobbing because it was supposedly an emergency and they literally wasted almost 2 hours of my cat's time being vague about money and not effectively communicating.  I spent $113 for them to waste my and Jasper's time, but getting out of there was the best $113 I've spent in a while.I agreed to pay the $1700 they were asking for, but I asked to give them $300 upfront until a loan (she heard me on the phone - it was already a done deal though my husband's work - not like a maybe situation or anything) arrived (maybe a week), but... Money grubbing assholes wanted the balance in total before treating him. I can't believe the insensitivity! There are several other people in their reviews singing in this choir of discontent:************************WestVet is for people who just happen to have cash on hand and don't mind way overpaying knowing their money is more important than their pets.************************I just don't get it. Not only is WestVet charging a third more than what is normal for our area, but they wanted payment BEFORE doing a damned thing. Literally... They told me my cat was in a state of emergency and was going to die, then wasted almost 2 hours fumbling around asking me one question, then leaving for 15 minutes, then asking another, then leaving for 15 minutes, etc... Then just saying they couldn't do it because they needed to be paid right then.Seriously defunct operation they have going there.************************Recommendations for WestVet:************************1) Bring in the estimate the first time (so they don't have to leave for 15 minutes for that) and be prepared to know things and not have to leave to ask someone else how to answer each question.2) Understand what customers mean when they ask if we have to income-qualify for Care Credit (they said yes, so I thought we had to make under 46k (the normal level to income-qualify for any sort of special treatment)). Even if they knew what income qualifying meant and answered correctly (NO), they wouldn't have treated Jasper until I got on and off the phone with that credit company and they got paid, but I would have stayed and just gone that route. 3) Freaking treat the animal you say is going to die and worry about financials later - especially when the customer has already taken a loan out at their reputable place of business and can fax you documentation to that effect.4) Give a shit. I realize you are a business, but you are in the business of caring for animals and you clearly fail at that, caring only about your bottom line.I'm pissed at myself for not taking Jasper to the normal vet in the first place! Emergency or not, I will never step foot in WestVet again.I did get to overhear a guy who drives in from Sun Valley dressed like Don Johnson (no joke) for his 3 poodles (beautiful dogs, btw) (their preferred clientele, I'm sure) dictate unfriendly texts to his wife, whom he's divorcing, which was pretty entertaining. We are traveling across country with our two golden retrievers. After eating dinner the night we arrived in Boise, our 6 yr old starting acting very strangely - foaming, crawling on the ground and trying unsuccessfully to vomit. His belly was rock hard. We were very scared for him and googled 24 hour vets. Thank God we found West Vet and we were only 15 mins away. They diagnosed him with GDV or "bloat" and within the hour, they had our poor pup in the OR performing life saving surgery to flip his stomach back around. The staff has all been incredible. The techs and doctors moved quickly and efficiently but also managed to take the time to explain everything to us and made sure all of our questions were answered. We are so soThankful to have found them! Dr. Brouman was wonderful. Read Less

Read Less

Westvet went above and beyond our expectations! We had to make a late night ER visit with our very sick 13 year old golden retriever. The staff was very kind and compassionate and professional. Unfortunately, it wasn't good news for us and our good boy went downhill quickly. We were faced with saying goodbye without as much time to plan as we had anticipated. My husband and I were en route from Oregon to Yellowstone when our dog got sick. After calling multiple clinics in the area (who couldn't get us in for a day or more), we ended up here, and I am so glad we did! The woman who assisted the doctor, Yasmin, was incredibly nice and thorough. They were able to fit us in quickly, had lab results within 2 hours, were reasonably priced, and got us back on the road with all the prescriptions needed. Thank you Westvet!! Read Less

Read Less

Every single one of the staff - reception, assistants, doctors, billing - every one was very pleasant, professional and sympathetic to our situation. I believe every individual we met at West Valley truly cares about the animals they care for. I believe our pet received the best possible care. Our Pomeranian came in with seizures and brain inflammation. If not treated correctly she could have died. Less than two weeks after bringing her in to West Vet, she is on regulated medication and happily running around the yard and up and down the stairs! We are so grateful. Read Less

Took my 7 week old puppy in. She had fallen off the bed and broke her leg.  The front desk clerk was rude and only worried about getting my money.  The Dr. Wanted to perform surgery, to the tune of $1,700!  No sympathy or concern for my puppy, just money hungry it appeared.  Finally met with a second vet, who happened to be the owner.  He was the only reason I gave this place 2 stars.  He was kind, explained all my options, and recommended a cast instead of surgery. I will only return to this vet clinic if it's a dire after hours emergency.  And if you end up here with your pet, bring plenty of cash, as it appears they are more concerned with dollars than they are with healing animals. After sometime and a few conversations I was given an estimate of  $2500.  Not to save the cat mind you, that was just for an x-ray and24hours of care, to see if surgery was warranted.   They would not even discuss with me the costs of the procedure until I had agreed to their initial fees.  I ended up going to another vet and my total bill, after two successful surgeries was only $1600. Read Less

Our 14 year old sheltie had experience two seizes. A trip to our vet at 5PM, he seemed to have recovered. At 8:30 PM, he had a second massive seizure, lasting nearly 10 minutes. We were mortified at how our sheltie was just laid out on the floor and how we were treated. I will never take another of our shelties to West Vet, nor would I recommend them to anyone. We took our animal to West Vet and she stayed there for 4 days. Tests after tests after tests and when they would call us for an update, or we would call them for an update it was different stories.

Read Less

We were referred to a specialist, Dr. Hume, by our dog's veterinarian.  I found the facility to be extremely clean and well organized. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Hume is professional, friendly, and empathetic. In addition to his knowledge about our pup's condition, he didn't suggest extreme measures or unnecessary tests. He gave us simpler options with fewer side effects and really listened to our concerns. This is our first visit to WestVet, so our dog hasn't had any procedures, etc. But judging by our first impressions, I feel that we have a great place to go when we need a specialist's input. Read Less
