I had been taking my dog there for probably close to 5 or 6 years or more and had also brought over my parents and their dog as well as my sister and her cats. I had Bugsy for 16 years and knew his time was near so I made arrangements with Dr. Mills to come to my home after hours and help him cross over in a place where he was most comfortable. When it got to where I knew it would be within the next one or two days I called to let him know. The next day was a Saturday and it was time, Bugsy was no longer having a good quality of life and I'd made the decision to go ahead which was one of the most difficult decisions of my life and Dr. Mills knew that. He also knew how important Bugsy was to me so when I called the clinic and left a message I was stunned when I got a response, not from him personally but from his staff, that he "didn't have time and could do it Monday." I was floored. Im sure it was a mixup somewhere but to simply just say no, sorry after knowing how hard the decision was to make in the first place was terrible. I wasn't about to make my dog wait another day or two or bring him in to the office where he would be terrified for the last few minutes of his life. I had always planned to do it at home where he felt safe so I was forced to contact a vet I didn't even know who was kind enough to come to our home with only an hours notice and help us. Needless to say that day was one of the worst in my life and made worse by Dr. Mills. He may do that every day and be used to it but I don't and I'd hoped for a bit more compassion not to mention all the business I had brought to him. I now go to Paramount Animal Care and am very happy. Dr. Mark is not just my vet, he's my friend, and a friend tries their best to make those days easier for you and your pet. I'm not trying to bash him I'm simply stating what my experience was. Up to that point they had been great. Read Less

Dr. Mills and his staff are always friendly and extremely knowledgable. It's very obvious that they love animals, they always show a lot of love and attention to my dogs and give them treats and praise. Prices are very reasonable and they are never pushy or try to get me to do unessecary services. Read Less

Moved into this area from out of state 7 years ago. Started looking around for a vet for our three pets; tried several before we were referred by a friend to Dr. Mills. Have never looked back since first meeting Dr Mills, he is compassionate, knowledgeable and dedicated to his calling. My pets are my fur babies and I wouldn't trust them to just anyone. My first time there with my 9yr old great dane. Very friendly staff greeted me and her. Thorough exam, didn't pressure me for shots I didn't want to give her. Didn't try to up sell me anything (which is huge) . Clean and warm office. I will definitely be back, and prices were very reasonable, as opposed to several other offices in the area. We suspected our cat had a UTI. We took him here and the doctor said he was fine. That was a couple months ago. We even told him that he had blood in his urine. Still didn't do anything and said he's fine. Well, we took him to a different vet. They actually did a urine sample and it turns out that he does have a UTI and is in pain from it. I took my St. Bernard, Katie to see Dr. Mills in the spring for a yearly check up.  I could tell right away that he had a lot of compassion for animals.  In November I decided I didn't know enough about breeding to have puppies and decided to have her spayed.  I had some questions and Dr. Mills took tme out of his busy schedule to call me to answer my questions. Katie came through her surgery and recovery just fine.  ( she didn't even have to wear collar, she never licked her incision) the staff at Settlers Park Veterinary Clinic are knowledgable and friendly and the clinic is very clean.  My daughter in law takes her dog here and recommended it to me, I am happy to find a great place to rely as n for my girls health care. Brought my cat in for the first time after a tail injury and I was very impressed with the entire staff. They were very gentle with my stressed-out kitty and I came away feeling good about the whole experience. Also, the price charged for the entire exam plus some meds he needed was very reasonable. We took our dog to Dr. Mills to have him neutered. Everything seemed fine at first until our dog developed an infection. Im not sure how that happened, but infections can and do happen even at human hospitals. My biggest complaint is Dr. Mills after care of our dog once he had the infection. We took our dog back to Dr. Mills when the infection was just a little swollen and inflamed. Dr. Mills looked at our dog, took his temperature and said he was running a fever. He gave us some anti inflammatory pain medication and antibiotics and told us everything would be fine. The next day our dogs infection was way worse. It had turned purple with these black spots and even his privates were swollen to at least twice the size it should be. We took him back to Dr. Mills for the second straight day. Dr. Mills again took our dogs temperature, which was lower than the day before. I was not surprised his temperature was lower as we had given him a pain pill prior to taking him in. Dr. Mills told us since his fever was lower he was getting better and it would be fine. He gave us a cone because our dog had begun licking the area, told us some of the purple and black skin may sluff off as a result of the licking, and sent us home again. The next morning we awoke to our dog bloody and even more swollen with a hole in is privates. We immediately took him to the emergency animal clinic and they took one look at him and took him right back into surgery, which took over two hours. The emergency vet put our dog on two antibiotics and told us to discontinue the antibiotics Dr. Mills had given us. Turns out the black spots on our dog were necrotic tissue that needed to come out right away. The emergency vet cut out all the necrotic tissue, which is the same tissue Dr. Mills said would just sluff off. The emergency vet also cleaned out as much infection as she could inside our dogs body and installed a drain to allow the remaining infection to be purged from his body. My complaint is I feel Dr. Mills completely failed to recognize a serious infection complete with necrotic tissue, or he just didnt care. Just because my dog wasnt running a fever he thought he was fine, really? Look at his privates! He is not fine! Needless to say, we will not be going back. Read Less

Dr. Doug Mills and his wonderful staff have been such a blessing to our family. I'm thankful to have found such great pet healthcare services close to where I live. Dr. Mills personally calls to give updates on my Dachshund Abby every time! He is knowledgeable and kind. We have been taking our beloved 22 terrier mix to Dr . Doug for about 5 years and would not go anywhere else . We have many other Veterinarians that are much closer to our home , but it is well worth it for us to go here . Our Frankie will agree as he loves to see them about once a month for his glands! Dr. Mills and his staff have been caring for our dogs for several years. We've always had great experiences, even during the toughest times of having two of our aging dogs put down. We presently have two dogs under Dr. Mills' care and wouldn't go anywhere else. He's a great listener, compassionate, gives solid perspective and advice, is very knowledgeable and highly competent. Dr. Mills and his staff offer  an abundance of knowledge as well as compassion and tremendous customer service. Our pets were treated here for several years prior to our moving across the country. I so wish I could have them in my new location! Always gives good advice without the fear that it is all about the money, not at all. I forgot to post this a while back... I took my cat here the first time because she had an open abscess in her mouth that I hadn't seen and was starting to get infected. So I called the next morning and I asked if I could drop her off and leave her with them to look at her whenever they could. And they did and I really appreciated it. I know she was probably not very cooperative because if I do anything to her she urinates on me but they were still nice even when I picked her up. I also got my little Chihuahua spayed here and she did great and she healed up nicely. I'm very happy with my experiences here. Read Less

Took my dog here for the first time this week.  Since moving to the area 5 years ago, I had yet to find a vet that I was comfortable with.  I called first thing in the morning to schedule an appointment for a little mishap that had happened camping over the weekend, and was fit into the schedule the same day.  (Let me side note and tell you the first place I called told me they were too busy and I could drop my dog off and they would get to her when they had time.)Located in the business complex across from Settler's Park on the corner of Ustick and Meridian.  The reception area, is small but comfortable.  Clean and tidy, and not overly stocked with  add on purchases like some vets I have been too.Sheryl met with us first and got us settled in the exam room.  She was gentle and kind to my dog, patient and very soft handed.Dr. Mills came in soon after, and the same as Sheryl was also very gentle and through.  Even though I was a last minute appointment, he treated our visit as if he had all the time in the world.  He gave her a full health exam, asked if I had any general questions about her health, and then examined the fish hook in her ear.  Yes, my dog pierced her own ear!We talked about options for removal, and he assured me no matter the steps needed it was not a big deal.  She would need to be sedated, and he was sharp enough to suggest she get caught up on shots while she was feeling relaxed.  Dr. Mills personally called me later that day, to give me a report on how things went and explain any further care I needed to give.When I got home that evening, my dog was running around happy and excited like she was trying to show me something.  That is when I realized she appeared to have gotten a bath, brushing and nail trim while she was there!  I can't say with certainty that they for sure did this, but she smelled good and her summer shedding was gone!  It was like I dropped her off for a day at the spa!  :)Lastly, I was very pleasantly surprised with the reasonable charge for my visit.  I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I dropped her off.  I have definitely felt taken advantage of in the past at other places, and was so pleased to see a break down of charges that actually made sense and prices that seemed fair.Added bonus, they sent the fish hook home in a baggie!  Love it!  It's like a momento to add to the scrap book along side my child's first lost tooth!  :) Read Less
