Too much going on here for anyone to do a good job. Always a chaotic environment, with everyone running around looking shell-shocked and unable to focus on anything. I had two dogs being treated there and they seemed to always confuse them. You can't get 3 continuous minutes of attention from anyone at the desk (unless you are making a payment). Scary thing is, no follow-up, no interest in pursuing a diagnosis (just send samples to the lab and tell you what it's NOT, also you get one test or sample per office call, cha-ching, listen to that cash register!!), no consulting with specialists or listening when you ask multiple times for them to rule out a certain thing. Had my dog in there and they diagnosed cancer, which turned out to be untrue (it is lupus or an autoimmune disorder as I suspected, and asked them multiple times to rule out). He also had pneumonia, which was discovered at WSU when my new vet told me to go down there and get to the bottom of things. The dog could have died of pneumonia if I had waited passively for the (needless) melanoma test following their false cancer diagnosis. Their website brags that they have 17,000 active charts. Well, 16,998 as of Wednesday when I turned on my heel and walked out of there. First off, the sign at the front that says "please don't cry too loud if we are putting your dog down" needs to go. My experience here is as follows. I brought my 15 week old puppy here for his second shots. The vet comes in and gives the dog the shot. After the shot they turn him around and try to give him the oral dewormer and my puppy bits the vet. (Why would you give the shot that hurts first and then try to give him something that looks exactly like a shot to the mouth second????) Also, as a vet, shouldn't you have been seen that bite coming, the dog was screaming when you put your hand there (if that was my big lab, you would have never put your hand there) Instead you start questioning my ability to train and be a dog owner. You state that he needs to be handled more often by other people. Yeah, my 15 week old dorkie, who gets picked up by strangers at least 3 times a day, needs to be handled more. Maybe I'll ask all the strangers to stick a thermometer in him so he can be used to it for you. I called my old vet in Spokane and I will be returning there. Read Less

5 stars without a second thought. My bluetick buddy Dan escaped from our yard early spring 2018. As he wondered up to my neighbors my neighbor pulled a .22 mag pistol and shot 4 rounds at my dog just over point blank range hitting my buddy with 3 of the 4. One threw the jowls, one through his front right shoulder and as he was running away one just above his hind hauncheds on the left side barely missing his spine and exciting on the right. The one in his face passed just under his jaw bone and excited the other side. However the bullet in the shoulder was a direct hit to the upper end of his humerus (as you can see in the pictures it annihilated it) before exciting out of his chest. Amazingly no vital organs or arteries were hit. Kellogg pet medical center received Dan initially and stopped up the bullet holes and after some rest an healing it came time to address the all but dead leg wanting to give Dan every opportunity I could to return to a normal 4 legged life and although the doc advised against it kootenai animal hospital did all that they could to reconstruct his shoulder well today Dan again had surgery to remove the leg that just couldn't be held together. There was never a single minute throughout the whole ordeal where I had to wonder if things were ok for my bluetick buddy not an event that went by that I wasn't updated on not so much as a hang nail removed with out my permission. All the while everything done with compassion and care. I myself reside in Cataldo Idaho and I can announce with full conviction I will from this sad event onward make the 45 min (with fair weather conditions) drive out with all of my animals and their needs to Kootenai animal hospital. Kootenai Animal Hospital is a Very Professional Veterinarian Hospital! I just gotten a special breed of dog and had a few different things wrong with him due to his past environment and others that it treated him I believe. They went above and beyond to help me get in the proper treatment and help me get him rehoused at my place properly. They are extremely busy but they made the time to work through all the little details needed and also the trouble we had getting the proper medical records from another Veterinarian Clinic and they were finally able to do it. I'm extremely happy with this veterinarian hospital and this is going to be my regular place for Neeko to be seen. I have taken both my German Shepherd and my Silver Lab here a few times. They always do a really great job and get me in and out in a timely manner. I took my bulldog there a while back for a bladder issue. the doctor told me she had something wrong with her Eye and gave me something to put into her eye and her Eye got worse then it actually was. so now it's gonna cost me more to have the eye fix then it would have cost just not touching. Now she my even loose her Eye I will never go back to this vet because they don't know what they're doing. Read Less

I just love the people here... especially Donna who works the front desk. Every time I come in with my Riley, I'm greeted with caring people who want the best for my beloved dog. My Riley has congestive heart failure and cancer. This place understands that pets are more like members of the family....and I appreciate that. I strongly recommend this place for your pets. I had to put down my dog Izzy a few years back and they were wonderful with her care too. She passed from bladder cancer. What I liked most was the support during the time she was going through her cancer treatment...and care. They treated me and her like family and I'll never forget that. The staff was. Horribly rude to my daughter. Her cat came up missing. A week later someone found it and brought it there with a broken leg. Because she had a chip they knew who to call. They gave her two options pay over a thousand dollar's to care for it or they would put it down. Unless your loaded with money dont go there because its all about the money to them. Read Less

I recently visited this vet because they were able to get my dog in sooner than my regular vet. In the process of waiting for an x-ray to confirm that my dog had eaten a rock, yet again, I was faced with am extremely difficult decision. I couldn't pay for another surgery. A woman who works there fell in love with my dog and offered to pay for the surgery and in return she would keep him. As I said, extremely difficult situation. Either way, we said goodbye to our pal. Fantastic care for our hurting dog on urgent basis. Friendly, courteous staff, very knowledgeable and kind vet, too. The prices were actually better than much I've seen. Our dog needed sedation for wound care and with strong antibiotics, pain meds, nail trim and all sorts of other stuff the price was about $375. They reviewed max cost up front and let us decide what we did and didn't need. They had good dog food and supplies available, too. Thanks Kootenai Animal Hospital. We will gladly come back. I don't know who said the staff were courteous!! I went in there and the office manager was down right rude and unfriendly!! The other staff might be, but didn't say a word while the office mgr took over. This is the 2nd time I have experienced rudeness from that one. If the hospital is a good one, services are good and within budget, they need to get rid of her and get someone a little more friendly!! Maybe they have enough business they do not care.
