I needed to find a local Skokie vet and I'm so glad I found Companion Animal Hospital. I took my dog in for a nail trim the other day and the team was excellent! My pup typically get super nervous at the vet, but she was much calmer in this atmosphere and the staff had plenty of treats to help her along, which she loved. Dr. Johnson and his entire staff have been nothing but wonderful to my Bernie.  Ever since we moved up to the area they have been accommodating, caring, and patient with him (or me...maybe I'm the difficult one ;)!). When I moved to Skokie, a neighbor suggested this vet. I have three dogs, and they do a multiple pet discount, so that was a selling point. I get the discount whether I bring in one dog or all three. It is always clean inside. And the grounds are nice (for my dogs to pee all over, sorry).Dr. Tom is very smiley and kind. He doesn't pussyfoot around, and will tell you whether you absolutely need a treatment or if it is optional. They don't over-vaccinate, only suggesting other vaccines if you need them to enter specific dog parks or if there is a major problem with certain diseases in the area. This is awesome, because I've mostly had vets that just try to up-sell products and procedures to make more money.They answer all my questions. When I do too much google searching on pet illnesses, they don't tell me I need more meds or treatment, they talk me through why I think my dog has an issue and they deal with it and calm me down instead of taking advantage of meMy elderly dog has arthritis and I thought it was her time to go, but Dr. Tom got her on meds that made the change in her like night and day. That was over a year ago now.The vet techs are also knowledgeable, but more importantly, they are so friendly. They remember us, they are warm to my pets, and they even remember personal things we talked about in passing. When I bring my pets here, I always know they'll make it as least stressful as possible, for my dogs and myself. They understand that when I have all three dogs, it is easiest for me if they put me in an exam room right away, so my dogs aren't difficult to handle when other dogs come into the building.I highly recommend this vet.. This vet is by far our favorite. We have been going to see them with our pets since I was a little girl and now I bring my cats and dogs there. We have tried to go to other places when we moved further away from North Shore, but did not get the same standard of care or the compassion that they full staff has. I'm so lucky to have such a great veterinay clinic in my neighborhood! About a year and half ago I walk into this clinic to have my dog spayed. Since I'm a first time dog owner, I was really apprehensive about having any kind of surgery performed on my dog. But as my friend recommended, Dr.Johnson and his staff were so attentive to each and every question I had and surgery went very well. We can only say they make you feel like part of their family from the first time you call to set up an appointment until your pets' last visit to the doctor. It is as good as it gets at North Shore Veterinary Clinic.  We have been taking our pets there for around 30 years!  The compassionate care that we receive from Dr. Johnson and his staff is uncomparable.  Dr. Johnson uses his expertise in caring for your pet and is humble enough that if he feels the need to refer you to another Dr. he will!  We recently had to deal with end of life care for one of our dogs.  He and his staff  were our support thru this to the very end.  If there was hospice for dogs they provided it. I just took my dog for her most recent check-up and I LOVE this doctor! Dr. Johnson is so warn and caring you would think he was a pediatrician! He obviously loves both my dog and my cat and has been giving them loving care for many years. The staff is also so friendly - they remember my pet by name whenever we walk in! It would be so great if all medical practitioners were like Dr. Johnson, but then he wouldn't be so special. I have several friends who take their dogs to Dr. Johnson and they like him just as much. I have been going to Dr. Johnson for years.  One of our cats had major kidney problems, and Dr. Johnson  was able to give our kitty quality of life for many more years than we expected.  Our other cat had some behavior issues and Dr. Johnson has been very helpful coming up with solutions to curb the poor behavior.  We live in Park Ridge now, but it is worth the drive.  I wouldn't trust our furry children to anyone else!
