Dr. Ron Durante has been our family's vet since 2008, and we love and trust both him and his entire staff with all of our animals. He even sees rabbits, and is extremely knowledgable about them (not something every vet is comfortable seeing - exotic animals)! Dr. Durante is compassionate, patient, explains what he is doing and why, as well as what his thought process is for treatment. He is very big on EDUCATING the pet parent on care / life style for the animal, and it is clear that he has a passion for what he is doing. Dr. Durante is the best! And so is the staff! The only reason I can't come here anymore is because I moved a long distance away. He has seen our dogs, cats, and hedgehog and always been compassionate and yet direct with his recommendations for care and treatment. He would always start with conservative treatments and not go straight to the expensive diagnostics which kept our bill reasonable. He's a great doctor and everytime we brought a pet to see him his treatments were always successful. I recommend everyone in the Algonquin/Crystal Lake area to see him! Read Less

Before moving out to the Algonquin area in 2002, we used to take our birds to Dr. Sakas at Niles Animal Hospital, so we were spoiled with state of the art, excellent avian healthcare.   Little did we know that we had another great avian specialist right in our new backyard! Dr. Durante and his staff at Algonquin Animal Clinic are wonderful and have taken very good care of my family's pet birds.  Most recently our new baby green cheek conure escaped from her cage and got into trouble (and somehow dislocated/tore her lower beak!)   Dr. Durante, Leslie and Becca provided great care for our baby bird and provided good advice on how to care for our newly "special needs" bird.  Colada is OK now and seems none the worse for wear, but will need periodic beak trimmings--by Dr. Durante, of course! The doctor and techs here are awesome. I can't say enough good things about this practice. I had a scary situation with my hedge hog in January where I had to bring her to an ER in the city. I was told her foot needed to be amputated. I took her to Dr. Durante to get a second opinion. She has a made a full recovery because of their wonderful care.  It's like nothing every happened, she is happy and healthy.  I had to bring her in quite a few times and they were great with squeezing me in last minute. Everyone that works there is incredibly nice and caring. They were able to see me 15 minuets after I called on the first day. I ended up boarding my hedgehog there while I went on vacation and the techs took photos and videos of her playing to show me when I got back. We love Algonquin Animal Clinic! They have been caring for our rabbits for over a year, and Dr. Durante is a class act. You can tell that he values rabbits as pets and cares for them like any other pet. Recently, one of ours hurt her spine (she is getting old) and under their care, she is now as healthy as ever and has recovered very quickly. I called in a panic and they were able to see her immediately, as in within 30 minutes, about the time it took me to scramble our girl to the office!Dr. Durante is honest and straightforward and is great at giving solid advice and realistic prognosis for your pet. AAC also cared for one of our late rabbits, who was diagnosed with snuffles; they were able to help him be comfortable in his last months with us. He was honest from the beginning that he was very ill and might not make it, but provided the best care they could and the best chance we could give him.In addition, they have the best equipment for rabbit spays/neuters -- I won't lie, they are a bit more expensive than other options (and a LOT more expensive than a few, we know of one who does them for under $100. Don't trust them.) but I trust Durante's office hands down, and it's worth every penny. They even have monitoring equipment to monitor your rabbit while they are put under, and any rabbit owner knows this is the most dangerous part of the surgery, so it's important. Our current boy bunny underwent a neuter and recovered incredibly quickly.If you have rabbits and live in the area, this is the best place to go, period. Dr. Durante and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. When we thought our dog was bitten by an opossum, Dr. Durante examined him and gave us advice and rabies/other warning signs to look for. We also take our dog there for his annual shots. No problem whatsoever, other than the Rt. 31 contruction taking place out front. That, however, is minor and is scheduled to be completed in the near future. I recommend him. With respect to the bad ratings below, I love how they remain anonymous. They must be competitors. Dr. Durante and his wonderful staff are the most caring wonderful veterinarians I have ever met. And trust me, with all the problems my little bird had, we met quite a few! I am sad to say that she is gone. I know she was in the best possible care we could have found and i know we did everything possible. Dr. Durante kept her with me and my family for 5 and a half more months when other vets gave up and said we had to put her down! Dr. Durante at Algonquin Animal Clinic was recommended to me when I got my first parakeet -- I haven't looked back since! I take my whole brood (4 parakeets, 2 cockatiels, 3 cats, 1 dog) to AAC and wouldn't even consider going anywhere else unless I needed a 24-hr emergency.  I regularly visit AAC because one of my cockatiels has a split lower manduble so his beak needs regular trimming. I also use AAC for bird and cat boarding when I have to travel for business. I wouldn't trust my babies to anyone else. Dr. Durante and his team (Leslie and Bekah) are THE most caring group of veterinary professionals in this county. The team at AAC will never try to "sell" you a procedure or service, or give you false hope. Not only are they caring but honest as well and firmly believe in quality over quantity when it comes to our companion animals' well being. My family has been taking our pets (3 dogs and a cat) there for care the last 10 years and couldn't say enough about Dr. Mark and his staff! They are very caring and great with animals and have a calming effect which seems to be very rare. One of our dogs was scared of the vet and is excited to see him when we get there even though she has had 2 surgeries ( spayed and cyst removal ) performed there. Our cat had a cyst removed from her eye 2 years ago and we were worried about how her eye would be afterward. Those worries were unwarranted because Dr. Mark is a very skillful surgeon and she has perfect vision and you cannot tell she had any kind of surgery on it. Read Less

I was looking for a vet who specialized in birds/parrots and was referred to Algonquin Animal Clinic and Dr. Durante by an acquaintance of my mom's.They were extremely thorough in their explanation of the procedures before they did them, their examinations of my parrots - heck, Dr. Durante even had me look over his shoulder to see something he noticed during one of the examinations.Dr. Durante and his staff put the well-being of my parrots first, and were kind, personable, and professional when we were there in person AND when I spoke with them on the phone.  I trust them completely and will be going back for all of my parrot's care.
