Both myself and my parents take their dog(s) to Antioch Animal Hospital, and have been for over 10 years. I've experienced routine appointments with Veterinarians Dr. Michael Passarella and Dr. Barbara Storslee.  Both vets are knowledgeable, friendly and patient with my always anxious pup.  The ladies that work in the reception area/front desk are also kind and helpful as well.  I haven't ever experienced any problems with the staff, building or establishment as a whole.  ***As far as price is concerned...it's no secret that having a pet, any pet is EXPENSIVE if you want to keep your pet up to date on vaccines, preventative measures, tests, grooming and if you want to feed your pet the highest quality foods.  Therefore, the pricing at Antioch Animal Hospital is reasonable and 'normal' compared to other veterinary offices I've also visited over the years in Lake, Cook & Will County as well. The only places I've heard of that are cheaper are the clinic-type places on the days (usually Saturdays) where you have to just walk in and wait your turn, and you see any Veterinarian.  To each their own, but I love Antioch Animal Hospital! Sitting in my office missing my Dog... and I remembered how poorly this Vet Treats your furry family and I pray no one else is suffering as I am 5 months later..... Poor diagnostics skills!! I DON'T RECOMMEND going here if you fear your dog may have a life threatening situation!! My baby died LESS THAN 24hrs of being told she only HAD A UTI and to follow up in two weeks!! Careless Vet. Retire, find a new profession, do something that requires absolutely ZERO COMPASSION. If we were told our dog had less than 24hrs to live or even given the impression her situation wasn't as dire as it was, we would have stopped her suffering or helped make it easier then and THERE! Money was not an issue, since I've read that's their modus operandi!!! I absolutely do not blame her passing on the vet, however, if the vet actually did her duties as a VETERINARIAN this review would have gone a bit different. To throw salt into the wound: my sister called hysterical when She passed to talk to the vet and find out How this could have happened? Was the 2 weeks worth of antibiotics too much too soon? Did you not diagnose her properly? Do you lack the proper equipment, knowledge, or moral compass? Lo and behold, THE VET WAS "too busy" to take her call; understandable, as I pray she was giving the other furry friends her undivided attention *cough* but wait for it, the receptionist had no problem showing her compassion. "so sorry for your loss (NO pause) do you want to bring her in and have her cremated?" CHA CHING!!! Read Less

Everyone in this place was caring and professional. I was very worried about the health of my cat, who hadn't been breathing right for a couple weeks and they got me into the office within an hour of my initial call. My cat was terrified from the moment I put her in the carrier until I arrived at the office, actually calmed down and WENT TO SLEEP when we were in the exam room! I was confused and shocked, but I really think it was because she was comfortable, which made me happy and comfortable as well! To add to that, they were understanding when I explained that I had no money and couldn't pay that day, they explained my options as far as getting her diagnosed including prices and let me post-date a check. They really did everything they could to make my visit easy, successful and comfortable! I will absolutely come back, no question! Read Less

I brought my Abbie in she was peeing blood and the doctor never fully examined her. she just insisted on a urine sample and my poor Abbie wasn't able to walk or move and I kept telling her that she will drink the water and urinate on herself since she is in pain and too weak to move. She picked up my Abbie by her abdomen put her under her arm like a rolled up newspaper. My poor Abbie wouldn't let me touch that area she would weeze from pain if I gently touched that area and when the doctor came back in she let Abby down to the ground to walk it off knowing she is in pain and can't walk. She came back 5 mins later after the "urine sample" she tested and said she has an infection or might have stones I was given a chose of pills antibiotics or the shot I chose the shot and to come back for a two week check up to see what else it could be if it hasn't stopped. took Abbie home with high hopes that she is going to be alright. This morning I come home from work and my Abbie passed away just a day after the visit. Abbie must have been suffering dying in pain and this doctor who could have cared less for my baby let her suffer more. It might not be the doctors fault my dog passed away but it's her fault letting her continue suffering. She could have done more. She could have put some effort into my dogs visit. I went in 10:30 I was out by 11:10 on my way home. Her nurse even was surprised by the release and said but your dog is shaking. Just now I'm realizing she wasn't shaking from being cold she was shaking from the pain the doctor inflicted on her carrying her that way and setting her on the floor to walk. Poor treatment. You would think that she would care more as a Vet but I guess not. I feel like people should know that that lady doesn't care about your pet. She just doesn't you can see it in her eyes. Read Less

Back in March or April, 2016 I had brought my new cat, Blizzard to you for medical care.  Blizzard was a rescue and we wanted to give him a great home.  He was the most loving, beautiful cat that deserved to have a second chance.Dr. P.  looked at him and told us he had ear mites and bacterial infections in his ears.  He had a very nice coat and certainly worthy of treating and helping him get a second chance.  Medication for ear mites was given to Blizzard. The medicines prescribed to Blizzard were not helping him.  So I had to bring him back for more care and different medicines.   Still Blizzard was not responding to the medicines and I brought him back again and Dr. Storslee said a culture was needed.  The culture came back and she prescribed medicine for general bacteria and yeast.  Still nothing helped and I called in and I was recommended to see another vet who was very nice and considered by your staff as the "cat vet".  She looked at Blizzard and said we'll clean out his ears again.  At this point, Blizzard was in good to fair condition.   The vet techs cleaned out his ears as asked of them and when I brought him home immediately after the ear cleaning I noticed Blizzard was meowing loudly and when I took him out of his carrier, he began to walk in circles continually.  Then I noticed he seemed confused and distraught and started walking into the walls.  I called Antioch Animal Hospital and talked to the vet and she told me he was walking in circles because he was constipated.    He was NOT constipated and I could plainly see he had suddenly gone blind.   She asked that I bring Blizzard back right away and I did and Dr. Garvey confirmed he was blind.NOTE THAT BLIZZARD'S BLINDNESS AND DECLINE STARTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR VET TECHS CLEANED OUT HIS EARS.  I KEEP ASKING TO THIS DAY WHAT THEY DID TO BLIZZARD WHEN THEY CLEANED OUT HIS EARS.  NO ONE WOULD TELL ME.I brought Blizzard home, and as the vet asked me to do, I put him in a quiet place within a large cage and made him comfortable.  He just kept circling and finally he fell over and laid down.  From there he could not walk and appeared to have no feelings in his back legs.  Next he began to howl and meow in sudden pain and then he began to seize.  I WILL NEVER FORGET THE PAIN AND ANGUISH BLIZZARD WAS EXPERIENCING, EVER.  I still cry when I think back to him and the medical trauma he experienced. I called your vet clinic to tell them I have an emergency with Blizzard and that he was seizing and they said "we can't see him, bring to the emergency veterinarian clinic".  So, I told the clinic he won't make it to the ER Vet clinic, please help Blizzard and again they told me the same thing to bring him to the ER Vet.  I rushed him to the ER veterinarian clinic in Grays Lake, and by the time I got him there and the ER vet looked at him, he was almost dead, just as I thought might happen.  He declined so quickly.  He had no feelings in his rear legs and just laid flat and was paralyzed.  The ER Vet told me it is possible Blizzard had polyps in his ears causing all of the ear infections and they may have burst after his ears were cleaned out by Antioch Animal Hospital vet techs. But this could not be confirmed without an MRI or CAT Scan but he wouldn't make it.We had no hoice but to give Blizzard immediate peace and euthanize him which we did promptly.  My daughter, my husband were with me and to see a little 7-year old girl so upset with this whole situation is beyond description.   I've e-mailed Dr. P at Antioch Animals Hospital, called and now writing to you to review Blizzard's medical case.  What did your vet team do to Blizzard that caused him to go blind, be paralyzed and then to be euthanized quickly?  What happened?  No one will tell me and I have not heard from you.  All I get is to contact the office manager, which by the way I did, and got ignored too.  A lot of money was spent but I don't care about the money.  I just want to Antioch Animal Hospital to be honest and tell me what went wrong.I will eventually forgive them, but will never forget this event.  This story has been sent for Blizzard's sake and hopefully prevent something like this from happening to other cats at this clinic. I made an appointment for my 12 week old puppy so we could get him started on heartworm medication. This was our first time to this vet and the woman seemed very caring and compassionate over the phone and helped me set up appointments for the right dates for his age to finish his shots, get his rabies vac/tag, neutering. I almost mentioned I would like him to be started on dewormers again since we noticed worms in his stool two days prior to our first scheduled visit. So come in and I bring a small stool sample like they asked. They had it less than 2 minutes and told me he had no worms. I was happy for a minute but I was positive I had seen worms in his stool. But the vet knows best right? They had also told me that because he was a puppy they wouldn't prescribe 12 months worth of heartworm medication and that he would need to be brought in monthly and they would weigh him and prescribe more. I thought that was such a good idea and a very good way of keeping up to date with him..Well.. after he was given a clean bill of health and was "worm free"- I get the bill.. they charged me for the fecal check (which I now realize they more than likely didn't do or half assed majorly) and charged me for the visit which I was also told I was not getting charged for, they charged me for the full years heartworm medication.I was confused and asked what happened to the monthly check and the woman just said oh yeah he's  probably not gonna grow too big so he should be fine.. Fast forward two days later. My puppy poops another giant worm. I called them and wanted to know how they could have possible missed the fact he's pooping giant worms. Not to mention I noticed not only roundworms, but tapeworm segments aswell. They told me to come in they'll check in out and get him started on dewormers. I come in with the giant roundworm infested poop that's also riddled with tapeworm segments.They. Threw it. Away. They didn't even fucking look at it to identify the worms or the extend of the problem. They gave me a dose of dewormer and sent me on my way like I was bothering them.I called a more reputable vet and told them my experienced and they were SHOCKED and said that there's no way to properly examine a stool sample in such a short period of time and that fact that they didn't even look at the worms I brought them was pure negligence.I would give them 0 stars if I could.

Read Less

I had the genuine honor of helping my disabled neighbor with her cat and had to bring it to this hospital for euthanasia. The staff was absolutely top-notch; very disciplined and respectful. Even the vet was very uplifting and tried to retain her composure; it was the first time I had seen a vet have their eyes well up with tears. While it was difficult, I hold the faith that the cat is in a better place, and it warms my heart to help my neighbor with the help of such a professional and distinguished establishment. Thank you very much.
