We have been taking our dog Howie here for years. Last year we rescued our chihuahua Ivy and she seemed healthy. We have unfortunately run into some medical problems. The doctors, Dr. Barksdale, Dr. Flaska, & Dr. Kuhnle have worked so hard to find out what the cause of her problem is. I took my beloved Bruno for the first time to this place with a terrible ear infection since my regular vet couldn't take him till Thursday! Luckily they made an immediate appointment for him today! They were so kind. My Bruno really gets nervous easily and I was afraid since it wasn't his regular doctor that he'd bite the vet but let me tell you he loved Dr.Barksdale! He got comfortable with her immediately! He came back to us happy never has he been like that with a stranger! Especially at the vets ! They were all so helpful! We just love Dr. Barksdale, and the entire staff! Everyone is super nice to you from the moment you walk in till the moment you check out. I had to bring my dog in on an emergency basis on July 3 to have a terrible ear infection treated, even with no appointment I was in and out within 90 minutes. My boyfriend brought our seven-year-old Lab in three weeks ago and unfortunately due to liver failure had to make the difficult decision to put our beloved pet to rest. They could not have been more lovely throughout the horrible process, including sending a sympathy card a couple of days later to our home. I can’t say enough good things about this place! My dog doesn’t like many people other than me, but is good for the staff here. Dr Flaska is so gentle with him. I have complete trust in all of the staff. My dog goes there for his annual visits plus has had dental cleaning, CCL replacement surgery, regular nail trimming and grooming there as well. Do not bring your animal to them for any emergency! They will watch your animal die. They told me had I brought my dog in 5 minutes earlier they could have saved him and then put my dog into shock. The veterinarian sat in a chair and watched my dog die for more than five minutes as I pled for her to do something to save him. They gave me disrespect that I can never forget. I wonder how many animals they watched dying and would only facilitate that. Sadly most people in an emergency is most likely not going to read all the reviews on Facebook. Dr Kuhnle is the best. i have two collies and she is the only doctor ill see. i love how she is incredibly thorough w her work and u can tell she loves what she does. she is truly amazing. we brought our collie in for a issue she was having w barely looking at her she new exactly what it was and ended up saving her life. We recently needed some help getting our puppy to eat and wanted answers regarding his ear infections. We switched vets and gave Dr. Flaska a try. I'm not very happy with Arlington Heights animal hospital. Today my puppy got a wellness check up and tonight we noticed she had an ear mite infection, which was easy to see just by looking at her ear. I now realize that the vet had forgotten to check her ears and eyes. Now I don't want to go back to the vet because I will be charged another exam fee when it all should have been diagnosed today. On top of that, the service was extremely slow even when it was slow in the clinic. I gave them two stars because all the people there were very pleasant and nice, but I'm upset that I paid $40 for a wellness exam that wasn't thorough. Read Less

About a week ago my family and I had to put our beloved dog, Ranger, to sleep. The staff and Dr. Flaska did an excellent job of taking care of both us and him during the process, and were very kind. These folks have been taking care of our pets, my folks' pets for over 3 decades ( 4 dogs, countless cats, rescues ). With so many veterinary practices, we would never switch. Dr. Kuhnle performed surgery on our dog, on a Sunday with the surgery lasting over 3 hours. We could have taken her to one of the emergency vets costing thousands of dollars, although cost of care is not an issue. We trust these folks. Sometimes there is a wait and although they prefer appointments, they will see us when needed. We're willing to wait understanding that someone else's pet is ill and may need help causing appointments to go a little longer. I'm surprised at the negative reviews as I've been going there over 30 years and never had an issue. You can potentially pay less at other places; but I'd worry whether they know what they're doing. Pets cannot speak for themselves and you risk having a worsening situation by the time you notice an issue. Thank you Arlington Heights staff! We LOVE YOU! Read Less

By far one of the BEST vets I have ever been too! They are so nice and welcoming to everyone. Dr. Flaska is awesome! He always knows exactly what is going on with my pet, gives him the best care, and is super friendly! I highly recommend him and this hospital to any animal lovers! My pup has been in and out of their office with many different health issues unfortunately but they always give him the best care! I would give them a zero if I could. I brought my dog in for a routine nail trim. All of a sudden they throw on an eye pressure test without asking. We did get them to remove fee for that since we did not ask for it, however I brought my dog in recently. Just for a nail trimming. Then they tell me he needs an eye pressure test and it's only 20 dollars. All of a sudden there is a 40 dollar charge. They deny quoting me 20 but give me a credit of 20 dollars. They consistantly try and add on extra unnecessary things, and on top of it all, my dog has been hyper ventilating since they brought him back to me after the nail trimming and eye pressure test. That was over 4 hours ago. He won't eat. Gulps down water but continues to breathe like he ran a marathon. And when I call, they have no explanation of course. They just tell me to give him benadryl if it doesn't stop. Ridiculous. I call shennanigans on this animal hospital. The "doctor" or whatever you want to call that quack was extremely rude on phone. I can't thank this vet enough for saving my cat. My cat had a blockage and couldn't urinate. I took him to an emergency vet in my neighborhood (Lakeview in Chicago), and they relieved him temporarily of his pain while I weighed my options. They quoted me $1200 to unblock him with a catheter. This seemed astronomical to me as he had a similar procedure done in Arlington Heights a few years ago that was half the price. I called vets in Lincoln Park & Lakeview and was told that no one had room for my cat. I then called Arlington Heights and was told to bring him right in - best choice that I could have made! His issue ended up being way more complicated and he required additional surgery. At this point, I would have done anything to save my cat and improve his quality of life. His surgery went flawlessly (PU surgery), and he is now pain free and couldn't be happier. The vets were in constant communication with me while he was boarded as well. I'm so happy to have my cat home with me, and the drive to the burbs is worth it for this level of customer service (plus the pricing is way cheaper than in the city). Thank you again! Read Less

they are friendly and caring. my dogs have always been well treated by the staff their, and as a parent, i find that very important. my dogs have always been willing to go there because they know that it is a social experience. while i admit i am partial to dr. clow, there has never been a time when i have taken one of the dogs in that they dont take the time to talk to the dog first, before jumping into the exam. their bedside manner will keep me going there Read Less

The staff here is wonderful. I have never been here but on a Sunday morning my cat was in distress. She was breathing funny. I saw this clinic  was open and called. The person who answered was apologetic and said they had no room perhaps the next day. She then asked me what was wrong and I told her my cat had a respiratory problem, she was breathing funny. She put me on hold and when she came back she told me to get in there right away. My 15-year-old cat was seriously ill, somehow her lung had ruptured and her chest cavity was full of air. I could see by the x-ray that she was in severe distress.  I had to say goodbye to her. The vet was extremely gentle and the staff was nothing but compassionate. They went out of their way for me and for that I am forever thankful. My cat didn't have to suffer another agonizing day and night. Read Less

Dr. Rebecca Clow is one of the most helpful and compassionate vets. I recently lost my Topper and she and the staff were wonderful. They were very gentle with him . My entire family has gone there since 1965 with all our pets dogs, cat and other little pets. 3generations have used them very happy with the care. They are an awesome staff. I took my 3yr old bishon here because he was having diarrhea. A meeting with the vet, stool sample, and prescription cost me way more than I have ever had to pay in my life. They are def not the cheapest in the area and not the friendliest either. The lady at the desk was not very nice when I asked her for an itemized receipt. I just moved to the area in August and was looking for a place to be my long term vet. Arlington Heights Animal Hospital did NOT make the cut. They are overpriced and not friendly on top of it. It was not a good experience and I will take my furry baby somewhere else. Read Less

We came here due to two conveniences.  One they were open on Sunday when our pet's problem arose and two they are extremely close to us.They were able to schedule us last minute on Sunday, hours are 9:30-12, and this saved us a ton of money.  If it weren't for AHAH we would have had to take our critter to an emergency location.  AHAH was able to get us an appointment with a doctor and they were able to take care of our little guy.  The doctor was knowledgeable and her recommendations were solid.  She presented us with our options and let us decide on whether or not we wanted to bring the pet to an emergency location, as they close at noon, or take him home to watch him.  We chose the latter but the next day we decided to bring him in for hospital care.  We left the feline there for overnight care but we were able to come for visiting hours.  We called several times during the day and they were able to give us updates on how the four legged animal was doing. I've been coming to this office for over 15 years, even though I didn't live that close some of the time.  The prices are reasonable and the hours are great.  The staff is very supportive of rescue.  Years ago, another vet that I know said that he visited AHAH and they have state-of-the-art equipment.  I also like the fact that they have several young vets who bring a current knowledge of veterinary care to the practice.  I'm sure that I would not be able to afford owning multiple dogs without AHAH. My dog loooooves coming here. She sees Dr. Flaska and when we say his name she gets so anxious.. she can't wait to get in the car.. when we're almost there she starts getting nervous (but in like a cute shy girl way). I can tell she loves the staff there and Dr. Flaska is so good with her, he's helped her a lot through ear infections, knee issues, etc. Wouldn't take her anywhere else. When my dog was a puppy we took her elsewhere and she would not even walk inside that place, but here she gets so anxious to go in and is so calm when she is seen. Read Less

I changed to Arlington Heights Animal Hospital (AHAH) after being with the same vet for over 9 years. What a pleasant experience this has been! While my old vet sold "designer" puppies from his practice, AHAH works with Young at Heart Pet Rescue and other animal welfare organizations that try to place homeless pet. I have been seeing Dr. Flaska and he is fantastic! The level of care and attention given to my dogs has been just wonderful. He even works on Sundays to return phone calls! When was the last time your vet did that??? The only thing I would say that could be improved is the building isa little run down and could use some sprucing (paint, etc) - but that is a minor negative. I am very happy with my choice and would recommend Dr. Flaska to anyone who wants a caring vet for their pet. Read Less

Since moving from downtown Chicago (where we went to Furnetic for our vet visits - love them!), i've been looking for a good vet in the area. AH Animal Hosp is great; the nurses (and they have alot of them) are very nice and friendly, and Dr. Clow was great with my corgi. Meds here are reasonably priced and its not so busy that you only get a few minutes with the vet like alot of animal hospitals. Dr. Clow was thorough with my dog, took her time, and very sweet with him; he settled in very comfortably. The lobby is spacious and parking is good (private lot). The also offer grooming packages, which i'll probably try soon. Read Less

I've been taking my own pets as well as my foster cats to Arlington Heights Animal Hospital for about a year now and overall I'm pleased. It's a large clinic with many different vets so unless you request a particular vet you may see different ones every time which is sometimes a drawback. But, like I said, you can request the same vet if you want to. One of the best things about the clinic is their hours. They are open 7 days a week and fairly late on week days. I can always get in the same day and a few days ago when one of my cats had a suspected UTI they let me come and wait for an opening even though they had no appointments. We were still out of there in 45 minutes.The staff is really nice and helpful. I've seen several vets and have had good experiences with all but one. Dr Bindu Mohan insisted on taking my cat to the back to examine and treat him instead of examining him in the exam room with me present. According to her it was their standard procedure but none of the other vets uses this procedure. They do take them to the back for shots and tests but not exam. I want to be there for the exam to be able to calm my cat and make sure that he is thoroughly examined and I'm made aware of any findings. Needless to say we did not get along the two times I saw her. I'm sure she's a great vet but does not have the best people skills.Other vets I have seen have been great though. Dr Clow is a great cat vet who knows her stuff and has a good hand with cats. Unlike most vets that do better with dogs she truly seems to like the cats. Dr Kuhnle has been extremely helpful with my foster cat that has chronic problems. She took a good 20 minutes on a Saturday afternoon to help me deal with his pain issues and she helped me get his medication from a compounding pharmacy at about a 3rd of what I had been paying them. She was also very helpful in explaining things to me when she saw my dog. I highly recommend both Dr Clow and Dr Kuhnle. Price wise this clinic is not cheap. I rarely walk out with a bill less than $100. But for the NW suburbs these prices are pretty average. They office visit fee is $55. They will not bill you but neither will most vets.All in all I'm happy with Arlington Heights Animal Hospital and would recommend them to others. Read Less

I've been taking my dogs here for years. Dr. Darin Flaska is the vet we usually see and he is like the "dog whisperer". He gets down on the floor with your pet and looks at everything. He offers suggestions and different approaches so that you can decide what you think is best for your pet. Dr. Kuhnle is another vet that we have seen and when we recently had to put one of our dogs down she was more than compassionate. She gave us the time we needed to be with our dog after finding out that she had cancer and helped us make the right decisions given the grave situation. A All in all, they are truly there for the animals. They have great hours and when needed always get you in that day. They carry most all of the meds your pet will need and also let you know if there is a cheaper "human" med that can be used and will call it in for you as well. They return your calls promptly and "listen". Read Less

I took my puppy in to be neutered and boarded. You would think they would give her the kennel cough shot, but they didn't. They were her vet! Then when she got kennel cough I took her back and they said nothing was wrong with her. I guess having lungs so infected with bacteria does count. I had to take her to another doctor only to find out there was nothing they could do for her. She would have been one a week later. Dr Barksdale should only be allowed to work on stuffed animals, they don't run the risk of dying. I highly suggest anyone looking for a vet to skip this one! Read Less
