My husband and I have been taking our dogs to March Animal Hospital since 2005, for over 10 years. As our dogs aged, and our trips to the vet became more frequent, I noticed that we never left the office with a bill less than $200, but seeing as how they had each dog's medical history I did not want to change vets. We paid ever bill at the time of the appointment, and paid in full. This week it was time to say goodbye to our dog. I scheduled a home visit to euthanize our dog. When I made the appointment I asked the price, and asked if they needed anything else, or if I should prepare anything at home. I was told no. The day of the appointment, Dr. Perry and his assistant were 45 minutes late for their appointment at my home to euthanize my dog. No one from the office called to tell me they were running late, instead, I called the office after waiting 15 minutes past the appointment time, and was told by the front desk that Dr. Perry hadn't even left the office yet! This was just the first problem, the next problem was even worse. When Dr Perry arrived I was told that between the time he sedated my dog and the time he would euthanize him, my husband or I would need to speak with the office via telephone and pay the bill. I was shocked! Already in a state of sadness and frustration, I did not know what to do, so I just said okay. My dog was sedated, and I waited as the young vet tech, and then Dr. Perry called the office and discussed what the charge would be for the appointment. It took 5 or more minutes for the office to figure out what we would owe! All this while my dog lay sedated on the floor. As the minutes passed, I asked Dr. Perry if he could please bill us later so we could focus on my dog, and I was told NO. Again, I felt helpless with my dog laying motionless at my feet. When I told Dr. Perry how terrible this payment situation was he responded, "If we don't get paid first people don't pay. There is no good way to do this." I bit my tongue, but I can assure you that there is a better way to do this, and I would be happy to teach them about prepayment! 10 years of loyalty to this practice and this is how I was treated on my dogs last day! I am beyond appalled.I asked Dr. Perry to have Dr. March call me to follow up, and she did. I explained the situation to her as I have here. She apologized and made mention of "things changing" but did nothing else. 10 years, thousands of dollars in service fees, and this is how I was treated. We paid $435 to come to home and euthanize our dog, and that was our experience. I am livid. I do not want this to happen to another client in their time of grief! As I told Dr. March, I will never take another pet to March Animal Hospital after being treated that way. My last memory of my pet was the opposite of what I had hoped and I can only hope he did not feel my frustration in his final moments.Shame on Dr. Perry for not doing what was right and settling the bill later! Shame on March animal hospital for making our last memories of our cherished dog frustrating and shameful for me and my husband! Read Less
