Needed to change my dog’s surgery bandages. Tried to do it on a Saturday morning but they wouldn’t make an appointment and told me to call first to check waiting time and walk-in. Did exactly as recommended. Called first - waiting time were short - and went there. They checked me in and after 45 minutes someone came to tell me it would take them another hour to see my dog. Wait for more than 2 hours and they took care of every single customer that showed up. Went to the receptionist and they offered if I wanted to leave my dog there because they were having “some emergencies” (which were apparently anyone besides me). Terrible service. I can't say enough good about this place. I had a dog emergency at 3AM. I called them prior to leaving my house and when I arrived they were expecting me. They rushed to get my dog and get her into an exam room and get started. Another member of the team got all the information and resuscitation wishes. I hadn't waited long when I was taken to a room to speak to the doctor. The doctor was very up front on what was going on and what they wanted to do. When I was presented with the charges I was surprised at how reasonable the rates were. They kept me informed through the whole ordeal. They made me feel like we shared the same concern, my dogs' health, and current situation. Very pleasant staff, from the guy polishing the floor right up to the doctor. After an $8,000 bill to care for my dog for three days! I opted to go with only medicine for my dog! I had a terrible experience here. Called on a weekday afternoon and asked if the same services were available and the same rates applied for normal or off hours. I was told yes, same at either time. I specifically mentioned needing an xray and ultrasound. Arrived later that evening and was then told that ultrasound was not avail after 6pm. Went back Monday, was provided estimate for ultrasound, and another line item to take a cell sample if ultrasound showed something that needed more investigation. They called me later asking if they should proceed with the cell sample because there would be yet another fee that was not in the estimate for another test that was needed before the cell sample could be taken. There was one person on staff who was knowledgeable and compassionate, but other than that this place felt like an extortion racket. In short, I will not go back to this place. Someday I will get another pet, but I will never go back to this place when they get sick. I hope by the time that day arrives there are more vets in the area with oncology departments. If you think over $2000 in doctor, test, and med fees should include a basic prognosis once your pet is diagnosed with cancer, you should also stay clear of them. Read Less

For a few weeks now I have had my 6 year old dog to our regular vet for ear and skin issues.. Come the weekend she was running a fever of 105, my friend that is a vet tech, told me to take her to the er.. So we did just that.. It was by far THE WORST experience I have had at a vet.. We told them all of the history that was already being address by our regular vet.. They came back several times to confirm what they were seeing on the dog.. They then told us that they need to run blood work before giving her fluids and such to bring down the fever.. But before they would even start treating her, they wanted us to admit her to the hospital and run tests to figure out what was going on and that it would cost thousands of dollars.. Once we told them, as much as we want her to get better, we just cant afford thousands of dollars for her to stay and for them to run whatever tests they thought needed to be done.. With the response from the Vet that was on duty that night, left me just appalled and sickened!! She told us, if we can't afford to treat her there and leave her there to be treated that we may consider euthanasia.. I was heart broken to hear this come from a professional that did not know exactly what was going on with an animal.. Well after a huge bill and a very long wait time, I am so very glad that I went with my gut and called my regular vet that had been already treating her.. with just one more test to confirm that she has a skin infection!! Please be cautious when taking your pet to this location, unfortunately they are the only location open late at night... This will never be my first choice again! Read Less

Staff was nice and good with the dogs but the check we saw didn't seem thorough at all. When we called they told us they would do an ultrasound and such to check if the ingested bone would hurt my dog. The check just consisted of touching the dogs stomach to see if he flinched. Also they were SO SLOW. Waited almost 2 hours at 2am in a room that had my dogs reeking diarrhea in it (which we cleaned up) just to get check out papers when they said they would bring the papers in "just one minute". They need to get organized or get more staff or something. Will likely go to the Lisle pet hospital if we need emergency care again because the slow service was ridiculous. Read Less

Unfortunately, my only experience was with my sick 12 year old dog. The staff were very nice. They were great and helped my wife and I through it as we tried to save her. The tumor that burst ultimately left us with no choice. That was our first such experience with a pet and the staff made it as easy as it possibly could be. The price was very high, but since I had never been through that process before I don't know how it compares to other locations. Recently had a phone conversation with "Mallory" who refused to talk to me about anything pertaining to my cat unless I brought her in. This was new to me, as I've called and gotten simple, non emergency questions answered in the past no problem. Very upset with this experience. If you love your pet, this is the place to go! I have no words to describe the gratitude for the treatment received here, and the complete recovery of my kitty€s eye problem. Since the first call to this hospital, I felt comfortable with the staff and after reading about Dr. Garcia I felt that it was the right call. My cat needed attention right away as the problem was getting worse and they fit me in quickly. Dr. Garcia did not rush the exam€, in fact he took his time and took pictures of the eye to show me exactly what he was explaining which helped a lot, it reaaaally helped me understand the alternatives for the types of options on the table. George had a problem on the cornea (sequestrun?) that is only treated with surgery, which was already done 2 years ago by another vet eye specialist but it came back. In this case things were more complicated, the chances of success were not the same. the best option for us now was a corneal transplant surgery. Dr. Garcia did a great job in explaining to me how serious the situation was, and very honest about the chances of success and failure, and I was able to understand everything, as apparently this surgery is more uncommon. Dr. Garcia and the nurses showed compassion and that they truly cared about George. It was intense, and the surgery was expensive, but prices were similar to other places near me. Of course a surgery done by a specialist is expensive, that is an unfortunate reality but it was worth every penny! There were lots of drops involved which were also lots of $$$. But my George is now happy, healthy, VISUAL, not having eye pain and the transplant was a success! The 1.5h train ride was painful but I would gladly do it again! The reception was full and lots of dogs around us, so my complaint or suggestion is that they could have an entrance just for cats. Oh and thank you whoever donated your pets corneas!!! In this hospital if your pet is sick and dies, you can choose to donate your pet€s corneas for transplants!!, and if you have ever done that and is reading this, please know there is a happy kitty here thanks to your act of compassion!!! George says thank you thank you thank you : ) Read Less

Our 3yr old Golden was having eye problems and our local vet suggested seeing a specialist. After being dissatisfied with our local ophthalmologist, we sought out Dr Garcia€s expertise and we are so glad that we did. At our first appointment, Dr Garcia took the time to fully understand our dog€s history, evaluate our dog€s current state, and diagnose the eye problem as a very rare pigment disorder. To alleviate the extreme pain our dog was in, Dr Garcia recommended removal of both eyes. Although this was a very tough pill for us to swallow, Dr Garcia ensured us this was the correct decision. Dr Garcia€s kindness, guidance, and optimism was greatly appreciated. The cost was very reasonable and knowing our dog was going to be given the best possible care, by an excellent surgeon, at one of the best facilities, eased our worries. We are now 3 weeks post surgery and I am pleased to report our dog is pain free and doing outstanding. We cannot speak highly enough of Dr Garcia and his staff and recommend seeing Dr Garcia for your ophthalmology needs. Read Less

Dr. Garcia who is the ophthalmologist at this location is as good as it gets. He is a rare breed in that he listens to your concerns and is not quick to rush you out of the room. Our Boston Terrier had bi-lateral cataract surgery about 2-3 years ago and Dr. Garcia was the main reason we opted for VCA. Although the drive is farther away than another ophthalmologist that we were considering, the price was right and we are glad we decided to use this facility. Dr. Garcia's genuine concern for our dog's well-being is unparalleled. If you are on the fence about whether to use Dr. Garcia and VCA then stop fooling yourself and use them!! Read Less

I've never been more disappointed. We took my husband's cat in for hard stool/constipation and pain caused by said hard stool/constipation. Granted it was late at night-the price for that visit wasn't too far away from what I expected to pay. The in-house bloodwork they requested showed one odd number and they suggested an ultrasound the next day as there might be a huge underlying problem causing the constipation. Made us an appointment the next day for 12:30 in the afternoon, forcing me to wake my boss up at 2am to call off. The vet we saw originally was very kind and obviously cared and even told us the cat seemed fine since he passed the stool. Offered to keep him there overnight, zero objections when we said we wanted to take him home. Dr. Middleton, and the rest of the staff for that matter, were horrible. She came in and started talking about all the possible things that could be wrong with him. Said he might have an enlarged heart problem, said he could have liver cancer, could have gall bladder disease, could have an intestinal disease, could be an infection in his liver...just could not seem to eliminate ANYTHING. Told me the ultrasound would tell them what was wrong with him and would lay out a path to fixing the issue-truly made us believe that our cat was going to die if we didn't do anything. Did the ultrasound only because it was supposed to give us a route to go for treating him. The appointment was made for 12:30 for an ultrasound. What they didn't tell me was that his ultrasound was actually scheduled for 3pm. I don't mind waiting for a test, but it is ridiculous that no one told me about the time difference. I left to run errands since I didn't want to sit around doing nothing when I was SUPPOSED to be at work. Got a call shortly after 3 saying we needed to come in at our earliest convenience, so we left immediately. The results? Apparently his liver was brighter than it should be-no picture proof was shown when I specifically asked to see pictures before I left earlier in the day. Told us it could be a number of things--even things that, upon asking my normal vet, would have nothing to do with the liver at all. They wanted to give him a biopsy and pushed EXTREMELY hard for it even after being told we couldn't afford it. In addition, they wouldn't do the biopsy without chest x-rays and a cardiologist appointment because he may or may not have a heart condition that may or may not kill him if put under anesthetics. For a biopsy that may or may not tell us what he has. Then she suggested we put him on antibiotics that might help-but only if it was an infection covered under the antibiotics they were giving us. With that being said, I did sign off on them giving the cat the ultrasound. But I told them to NOT send the GI test until we knew the results of the ultrasound. I WAS COMPLETELY IGNORED. I found out at the end of it all that I was being charged another $300 on top of the $1000 we had already spent for something we didn't want done. When we very firmly told her no, we were not pursuing any further medical help for him since he was 100% fine at home, both she and her tech started telling us more and more that our cat probably has cancer and we need to do the medication. The medication that would only work on an infection. Not cancer. Told them we were going to check out and take our cat home. They kept us in the waiting room for over an hour with people coming up to us telling us the best thing we can do for him is to get everything done that she wanted to do. When they called with the GI results, I was told that she still wants us to spend the money and get the biopsy and ultrasound done. When I said he had the ultrasound and bloodwork already she said it wasn't in her computer. When I mentioned to her what they quoted me at for doing everything they wanted me to do was at eight grand, she backtracked and said no, and implied we don't really love him if we weren't willing to find the issue. I didn't actually come in with my dog, but I wanted to comment on a conversation I had over the phone with one of the emergency vet techs. My small dog went on an eating spree (hot cocoa mix and orange chicken w/ rice), was given hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting, and never once threw up. I called to see if they could tell me anything about how all of that would affect her. The tech I spoke with (I cannot remember her name!) was incredibly sweet, understanding, and took the time to answer every single question I had. She explained everything thoroughly and demonstrated a real knowledge of how everything would affect our dog, making sure I knew the signs to watch for if our dog took a turn for the worst. She also reassured me that they would be open for the entire holiday weekend. (I feel bad for the people who have to work during that time but I am also so, so grateful for that!) Besides answering questions well, she seemed genuinely invested in the health of my dog, and that was a real comfort too! I would feel very comfortable bringing either of my dogs here if we had an emergency situation. While I didn't actually go into the animal hospital, I am beyond thrilled that you guys are willing to speak to clients over the phone, and that is so very much appreciated! Thank you everyone and Happy Holidays! Read Less

Also, it was a Sunday so I expect to pay a bit more at a 24 hour emergency location Read Less

Many times I've taken my pets to VCA. They provide excellent care. I've also called for simple questions, non-emergency, and they provided. Recently had a phone conversation with "Mallory" who refused to talk to me about anything pertaining to my cat unless I brought her in. This was new to me, as I've called and gotten simple, non emergency questions answered in the past no problem. Very upset with this experience. Will not be continuing my recommendation of VCA to friends/family. Read Less

Read Less
