We will never go back there - very disrespectful place. We were waiting 40 minutes in the small room, my dog has got anxiety, he was vomiting, trying to get out, and nobody showed up. Receptionists were too busy to notice that I walked out of this room and was trying to ask why we were left for this long in the room. There was no "I am sorry" or any kind of respect to my frustration. When I took my dog and asked to cancel this appointment, the ladies were wishing me "have a nice weekend!!?? I came to the Bloomingdale Animal Hospital for a second opinion on my Black Lab, Rileys limp. She had been seen at the Itasca Clinic and was xrayed and given two different anti-inflammatory prescriptions. There was no improvement and I was advised to go to a specialist. The Bloomingdale clinic had the best rating in DuPage County. I also read many wonderful things about Dr. Heidi and she far surpassed her rating on these comment pages. Her exam was thorough and she immediately discovered the dogs shoulder was very swollen. She drew fluid and found an infection. We now have a diagnosis and a treatment plan with antibiotics We're not out of the woods yet as more testing will be done to rule out any other issues/or disease. I am so happy with the hands on treatment that I am switching from the Itasca clinic to the Bloomingdale Animal Hospital. I am very grateful for their attention to my dog. We've been taking our pets there for almost 10 years, the staff is great and the vets are very good with all animals. Been coming here for over 15 years, can not say enough great things about them. We have been through just about everything with 2 dogs, and there has never been a time where they weren't friendly, helpful, and experts. I am so happy I was referred to Bloomingdale Animal Hosp. My Yellow Lab had bad allergies for 3 years while living in California and went through many tests without success. I took my Sadie in to Dr Joe and he prescribed her a medication to take once a day and it was magic! Sadie is no longer chewing her paws and is healthy and happy. All of the Dr's are so caring and good. I even receive follow up calls from the Dr. himself !From the assistants to the girls at the front desk, I've never had more friendly and caring service. I came into this animal hospital for the first time because my kitty seemed to have a UTI. I made an appointment the day of and got in when I need to. The front desk receptionists are very sweet and kind. My vet tech and Doctor were both really great and seemed genuinely concerned for my cat's well being. My whole trip there was really great! Overall the place was very clean and the staff was great! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because they tried to get me to do 2 x-rays on my cat when he didn't need them. My husband brought all of his dogs here growing up and when we finally got a dog of our own we knew exactly where to go. There are plenty of other places we could go to that are much closer but it's worth the drive. Everyone is super nice and truly have your pets best interest in mind. We are a staffordshire terrier mix and they treat her like every other dog which you don't find that everywhere. Highly recommend! Read Less

5/5 every time. The Bloomingdale Animal Hospital has been the best, most caring vet I have experienced to date. After years of going here, we moved to Chicago and were sad to leave this vet, but they were very gracious helping us transfer our dogs file to the new vet! If I ever move back around Bloomingdale, they will be my only choice for an animal hospital.... So I'm not saying goodbye, just see you later! On a side note, I have gone through the incredibly hard experience of putting 2 elderly dogs down in my life, both here at BAH, and each time it was handled in a manner that was utmost respectful and caring. I don't know when they set up shop but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that I've been a client from the beginning.  We brought our pets here when I was a child.  We've been through the arc of life many times.  I've always been satisfied with the care but from what I understand, their prices are up there.  A person with limited funds might want to shop around but if you're looking for a practice to settle into, this is the place.Notables:One of my dogs came down with Cushings Disease.  While I generally take whichever doctor is available, I settled on Dr. McCormack for Nick's care.  This was my special dog and I felt he understood that and took care of me too in that.  Once upon a time I was a little girl in 1st grade at DuJardin school.  I met a boy named Mike.  Nice boy.  He told me that one day he planned to be a Veterinarian.  Time passed...a lot of time.  Now an adult, I moved back to Illinois and took my first on-my-own dog to the vet.  In came the vet...it was Mike, now Dr. Mike Winfield.  My first reaction?  "YOU DID IT!"  Lifelong passion there.  That's the kind of doctor you get here.  :-) Read Less

My cat has been a patient there since January 2012.  She is a 15 year old cat and suffers from a variety of ailments.  Lucky for us, Bloomingdale Animal Hospital is where our veterinarian, Dr. Joe Cwik, is and he has helped her tremendously.  Dr. Joe found a diet that helped her with her food allergies.  Other veterinarian clinics wanted to use steroids, and maybe that is the best route for some animals, but Dr. Joe prescribed a cat diet consisting of only rabbit (or deer) and the rabbit diet has been working very well these last few years.  My cat has several chronic health conditions and Dr. Joe helps her get better and/or maintain a comfortable quality of life.   I've also worked with Dr. Winfield and he is very good as well.  Everyone in the office is friendly, professional, caring and empathetic.  The clinic is clean and the hours are convenient.Although I know my cat is older and she will be faced with inevitable conditions, I wholeheartedly trust the doctors and staff there. Bloomingdale Animal Hospital is a wonderful place to bring your pets. I stumbled upon this place because my mom had been bringing our family dog here and my older shih tzu had a growth on his tail so I went here for a second opinion. All the techs/nurses are great, front desk staff greet you and your puppy/pet as soon as you come in. Some of them love my new pup so much they come to say hi and walk around the office with him. My 2 dogs both feel very comfortable going here. Dr. Winfield is amazing. He takes his time explaining everything, explains what it could be and why it's not (my younger dog recently had a stomach flu episode) explained how to check for symptoms and even had me feel his gums so I know what dehydration feels like. My dog wags his tail when he comes into the room!!!! My other dog has anxiety so sometimes bites but they handle him very well. I've been to so many vets where they force handle him and he becomes traumatized but they take their time. If you need a vet you should come here!!!! I lived near downtown and made the 1hr commute to continue care here. They are just that great! Read Less

We've used BAH several times this year and the service was always excellent. Sadly, in December, it was time to put our 15 year old rescue dog, Daisy, to sleep. The experience was handled beautifully. A room was ready with a blanket on the floor and a box of keenex. We had a few moments. Daisy was sedated making her comfort was the first priority. I was allowed to pay in that room so that I would not have to stand at the reception desk afterward. The doctor put Daisy to sleep, explaining everything as he went. I was allowed to stay with her afterward as long as I needed to. I'll never forget how compassionately this was handled.Read Less

My dog was extremely sick. I called the vet and they got my dog in right away. They were amazing with him. My dog is a 5 year old Pitbull and they handled him perfectly and made him feel so comfortable. I definitely found the vet for my baby. Every nurse came in and loved on him. Our beloved labradoodle was a patient at Bloomingdale Animal Hospital for most of his 12+ years. We saw each of the doctors over the years and always received the best of care. The doctors and staff are excellent in their care and knowledge. They truly love their patients. Our dog was diagnosed with epilepsy early in his life. I called Dr. McCormick in a panic, not knowing what was going on when our dog had his first seizure. He was able to tell me what was happening and stayed on the line to make sure our dog was okay. He later diagnosed cancer of the eye and again walked us through through the treatment process. Later in life cancer reappeared elsewhere, and Dr. Heidi was so compassionate and patient. She always made time to answer my calls, explain our options and what we could expect. When day came to say goodbye to our pet, the staff couldn't have been kinder or more respectful. Dr. Heidi and the staff helped us through that heartbreaking last visit and allowed us to take the time we needed with our sweetheart. I think the best indication of the excellence of a practice is how the pet feels about going there. I.  LOVE.  this place! My dog is almost 5 years old and I was never able to find a vet I like (I recently reviewed our old vet.)  He's a little guy- yorkie- albs and I was under the impression that he didn't need to get shots because he could have a reaction so I was only keeping up with his rabies.  My little guy has had some gnarly breath for awhile and our vet at the time didn't seem to think it was that serious.  About a month ago I noticed a small growth in my pups mouth and that's when I knew it was time to find a new vet ASAP.  Thanks to a recommendation from my neighbor who is a vet, I found the wonderful, friendly, knowledgable people at Bloomingdale Animal Hospital.  This place is so great that I even got a nice little welcome letter with a $25 credit for my next visit! I requested a vet by referral and she was nothing but amazing.  Dr. Ovitt is the best! Usually my dog shakes and wants to get out of the vet ASAP but this time was different from the second we walked in the door.  The women at the front desk are super friendly and said hi to Fletcher right away and he seemed to be OK.  They came to take us back to the room and to my surprise I didn't have to carry or drag him, he willingly followed the tech right to the scale.  That never happens!  Once in the room they suggested letting him off the leash and to check out the room himself and that helped a lot with all of his pup anxiety.  They did the best exam they could considering he didn't want anyone near his mouth and it turned out my dog had severe gum diseases.  Dr. Ovitt was VERY helpful in explaining everything he needed and how they would do everything.  He had to have 11 teeth extracted, have his teeth cleaned AND get neutered all in one shebang but i never was nervous about it.  They called to update me, and again explained EVERYTHING to me which I really appreciate because I'm one of those concerned pet mom's and they didn't make me feel like a weirdo with my over-abundance of questions. Seriously if you're looking for a vet- check this place out!  I did request a specific doctor but I've heard nothing but great things about all of the doctors and staff here! Read Less

My family has been taking our pets here since before I was born, no joke. As an adult now and living in the area once more, it only made sense that I would bring my animals here.I am very happy with the quality of care my dog has received. The staff is very friendly, seems to remember me on sight, and makes me and my dog feel welcome. My dog can be nervous over vet visits, and appreciate that not only are they accommodating, they are respectful of how I deal with the issue (I am a dog trainer by profession) and because of that I've been able to improve her behavior. They are always very good about allowing me to handler her and set her up for success.I've also been impressed with how current their methods and procedures are; I always find that the veterinarians are up to date on new research and very current. That isn't something you always find in little neighborhood clinics, so I consider Bloomingdale a gem in that way. They also generally really accommodating (like the time my car wouldn't start), and I appreciate that!The icing on the cake is that the prices are reasonable. I truly think this clinic is a gem and I'm glad they're only minutes from my house. Read Less

The staff here are incredible. They were so gentle with my little girl, and were very patient with all of my questions and concerns. Even after only treating my cat for a short period of time, when I had to put her down, they were more then amazing and empathetic. Some even shed a few tears with me. Shortly afterwards I received a signed card expressing their condolences. The vets, techs, and receptionists had wonderful, caring things to say that melted my heart. The front of the card had a tortie on it, just like my Denali. It was so thoughtful, and meant so much. They truly care and are touched by every animal that comes through their doors. They even washed and dried her bed, and returned it to me when I picked up her ashes. Any and all future pets will be patients here! Read Less

I can't imagine ever having to take my furry family members anywhere else!  Fantastic treatment for both your animal and you.  They treat my dog like they love him as much as I do - from the front desk to the doctor.  Always lots of hugs, petting, and kisses from the entire staff!  A couple years ago when I had to put my beloved cat down, they were extraordinarily compassionate.  While the doctor was in the process of putting my cat, Hunny down, the assistant pulled up a chair and put her arm around me as I wept.  She pet Hunny along with me as she passed away.  They were amazingly sympathetic.  As long as we don't move far away, I will always take my animals here for their medical needs. Assembly line animal hospitals are so last year. Neighborhood vets are the new black. If you want a place that makes you feel like an individual instead of a number and treats your pet like a member of the family and not just a paycheck, this is exactly the kind of veterinarian clinic you want to give your business to.I won't lie; the building isn't much to look at, but don't let that deter you. Inside the plain brick walls lies a friendly and professional office with employees that will make you and your dog or cat feel welcome and at ease. All of the vet techs were helpful and kind toward my Georgia-pup. They seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs and didn't make me feel as though I were inconveniencing them by showing up without an appointment. All my contact information and Georgia's previous medical records were entered into their system quickly and we were led to the exam room within five minutes.Dr. Page is the dog whisperer. I have never seen my formerly abused dog take so quickly to a vet. My previous vets weren't horrible, they just didn't have the patience to make her feel comfortable and often resorted to manhandling or restraining her with a muzzle to keep her from biting out of fear. Here the doctor let her sniff him, crouched down to her level, spoke sweetly to her and let her check him out before the exam. She was not thrilled to be there, but she was significantly calmer than on any other clinical visit. A vet tech gently held her as the doctor examined her. He was thorough without being rough and my dog relaxed to the point where she was leaning against his coworker and took a treat from them when they were done.I was given the prescription my dog needed and a secondary prescription that no other vets ever offered for her chronic condition. Her ears are constantly grungy and she gets ear infections a few times a year which can usually be fixed by daily cleanings and the occasional antibiotic treatment. I was given a bottle of Otomax and the additional antibacterial tablets to fight inflammation. He also suggested useful household remedies to help with future flare-ups and let me know I can bring her in for a steroid shot directly to the source of the problem if it ever gets worse.I feel so relieved to have found such a perfect animal hospital so close to home. I'm confident that they will treat my dog to the best of their ability for a reasonable price (as far as vets go). Most of all, I am glad that they seem very knowledgeable and provide me with many options for treatment. As much as it hurt me to pay $100 for the initial exam plus medication, I'm actually looking forward to returning for future appointments. Read Less
