Monday March 12th, my husband came home to find our pitbull mix stuck in the barrier gates we installed, to keep her in one area while we are away at work. She jumped and by a fluke accident ended up severely injured and there was blood everywhere. We normally take her to Randall Road Animal Hospital in Algonquin but these injuries were too severe to drive that far so we took her here, which was the closest by the house. I arrived about an hour after they got there. My husband told me that he told these guys to do whatever it takes to find the problem and to make sure she would be okay. Once we were called into the room Dr. Fritz was going over x-rays (not looking us in the eye while doing so which is a huge disrespect to clients in my opinion). He said everything was fine with her bones. (Ok? So I was waiting for additional tests at that point, but they are the experts not me...so I thought) he continued by saying she couldn't move her back legs and that he was concerned at the absolute worst she may need amputation of the one leg. She received a steroid and pain med injections and received hydrotherapy on her legs and they said she progressed? The nurse brought our dog in the room and she went over all the medication we had to give her, there was 2 antibiotics and 1 pain med. I also had to spray her paws and lacerations with what they call a "miracle gel". Walking her would need to be with a sling and id need to do hydro therapy in the shower 2 times a day as well(that night we installed a new shower head so we could do this easier). At the very end the nurse tells us that's she's bleeding out her vulva(where she pees) and that "I should keep an eye on it, that if it changes I should call them" After all this close to $1,000+ visit, I take our poor girl home, do every fricken thing they said to do. Noticed she was hallucinating and early the next morning after shoving 3 pills down her throat that she didn't want to take, tending to her wounds and checking on her every 30 mins her breathing gets sparatic and slowly stops. I try to call but they are closed. So I rush her back to her normal vet and they took care of us like royalty. Montana LoVerde was pronounced dead officially at our regular vet and she died from the bleeding that was coming out her vulva which THIS VET TOLD ME WAS NO BIG DEAL AND TO KEEP AN "EYE ON IT". The doctor at Randal Road asked if Cary Grove did a chest cavity scan to find the source of the bleeding, and I had to say no, only an x-ray. They only looked at the bones even though they knew she was bleeding!
Needless to say, We waited a day to cool down before coming back, needing to cancel her follow up appointment scheduled for Thursday March 15th. I couldn't hold in the tears as I had to explain the horrific trauma I just endured with my own pet going lifeless in my arms just 10 hours after she was under this vet's care. Just 10 hours ago being told the worst result may be amputation. It meant nothing to these doctors and nurses. They did nothing to help us. We aren't ones for suing but boy oh boy was it a thought. We will never see our Montana again, and Cary Grove Animal Hospital could care less. In fact, the doctor we spoke to the day we went back told us that "at least we can use your story as examples to other pet owners about dogs getting stuck in these gates" and "I would have done the same test based off what YOU told us the injuries were" SHE JUST BLAMED US FOR OUR DOGS INJURIES AND TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY! YOU DONT DO THAT, ESPECIALLY TO GRIEVING FAMILIES. A death prognosis was never even a thought and was never vocalized to us, yet thats what happened, and they claim no responsibility. Do not take your pets here if they suffer from injuries and don't take them here in general if you want a loving, caring staff that knows what they're doing. RIP Montana, sorry we trusted your life in their care, we will miss you so much. And just know Mommy and Daddy did everything we could to keep you alive, I'm so so sorry. Read Less
