Fairly easy to get an appointment when you want. One of the Vets very hard to understand. He's very young and has a heavy accent. So definitely ask for a detailed report so you're clear of what the diagnosis is of your pet. I had a previous Lyme's disease test done on my dog in January. It came back negative. Luckily because of the price package testing and shots I received a Able. I was able to find out that my dog now does have Lyme disease. 4 months after the previous test. I live in Chicago.I cut my grass really short and am shocked to hear the results. Read Less

They are good Vets but the expenses add up quite a bit for each visit.  Prepare to pay $250-300 for check-ups and vaccinations. If you have issue, tests and treatments add up to another $100-200.Here is the prices:Wellness Exam $45.50; Rabies Vaccination $26; Distemper/Parvo/Leptospirosis (DA2) $49.50; Bordetella $28.50; Heartworm Test $45 Fecal Ova and Parasites $35; Pedicure $17.  Other prices are Antibiotics $60 and medication $30-40.  This year they showed me  the price list before your pet receive any treatments, and so they are trying to be open.  I am starting to check Petco Clinic price since their prices are climbing every year and if Petco Vet is good enough, I could have saved about $50 or more for shots and tests.  The follow-up visit is extra charge and when your pet has continuous issue, it is worth paying; however,  if your dog is doing well, it was too painful to pay $40 for 5 min chat with a Vet. Abell Animal Hospital is incredible! If you are weighing your options, make the choice for Abell!! They are so welcoming and very transparent. After rescuing my Pit Mix, Stout Man, he had come down with an ear infection and as a first time dog owner, I was nervous as what to expect. I made my appointment based on my location. I was pleased to find out during my initial phone call to schedule an appointment they give you an estimate on the cost of the visit. Most recently, Stout Man had tested positive for a very rare tick born infection. They went out of their way to provide me with all types of information. They also special ordered medications that have been know to be very costly, they made sure to check around and get the best price for me.Abell truly has yours and your pets best interest. Read Less

Very upsetting experience for the second time with this place. First off I call them to schedule to put one of my dogs down. This was a very difficult time for my family and myself. I make sure that I ask all questions possible so that when I take him in it can go smooth and not have to be there to long. The lady on the phone gave me pricing for the procedure and scheduled it and explained that he would be brought into a room and given an injection to put him down. Well surprise surprise I get there and I'm put into a room for 20 min with my dog. I'm then told that they have to do a physical on my dog before they put him down. How absurd is this?  So because of the circumstances I go ahead and accept it just to get it over and done with. Not to mention it was another cost added to my bill after the cost of putting him down and despising of his body. Today my wife takes my 5 month old puppy for his follow up visit. They give him several shots which cost $177. Several hours later after getting home he breaks out with an allergic reaction. They ask us to rush him back to the hospital so that they can take care of him. These blood suckers charge us again another $66 so that they can give him another 2 shots. I drive all the way from Northlake IL to take them here and all they care about is charging its clients for something we had nothing to do with. You are the professionals that's why we come to you. The right thing to do was not to charge us again for shots to un due what you guys caused. Obviously money is all you care about. So I'm taking both my dogs and transferring them somewhere else. I will be reporting you as well to the BBB. Read Less

Each of our adopted hounds over the years has been treated with the best care and highest level of  compassion. The entire staff are professional, courteous and make sure you receive top notch service. Maria, the heart of the practice with an infectious laugh, is always welcoming and joyful. We feel great loyalty to Abell for the understanding and education they have provided to us in good times and when difficult end of life decisions have had to be made. They welcomed me as if my cat had been a patient there for years. The kind doctor was very honest with me, explained what was wrong with my cat, admitted that my cat's prognosis was not good, and offered a few care options. I chose to have her euthanized. I switched over to this vet specifically because i was referred by a friend who owns the same breed (pit mix) as me. I was leaving my old vet because i was not at all pleased with the last visit i had there. My dogs are my babies. Therefor, if you are going to give them a shot or administer any type of treatment to them, you need to say so first. In this reason alone, Abell Animal Hospital rocks. I had Dr. Singh, and not only was he very thorough in the exam but he explained step by step what it was that he was doing and why he was doing it. We brought him a handful of a full grown puppy (which was our first vet visit with him in general) and wasn't too sure how it would go. Dr. Singh and the assistants did a wonderful job at handling (more so containing) him while showing great care for him at the same time. The doctor was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with a few things we didn't know enough on. Everyone there clearly loves animals and the prices are very fair. After just our first visit, i can safely say that we have found a vet, and a doctor, that we want to stick with! Read Less

Been going here for 10 years.  I like the vets, staff and the hours.   I do not find them to be expensive--per se...but you have to use common sense when you have a sick animal that there will be costs associated with that.  I can't believe some ppl think this place is expensive.  Also, you can't judge a practice because "they should have done this vs that" kind of thing.  Every vet is going to make a decision on what to do--based on information you give--since your pet can't say---as well as observe your pet.  Sometimes things are classic symptoms.  Other times--they are not so clear---and tests will have to be run to rule in or out situations.  Our first dog had some very expensive situations....but this practice helped us choose the most conservative approach based on our conversations about the health and what our pocket book would be able to handle.  You have to be your pet's advocate--you know them best. First off: anyone who calls this place pricey has no idea what they're talking about or has never gone to a vet actually in the city. Seriously, where do you go?  This place is really, really well priced.  I say this having worked at a vet clinic previously.   Abell has been great to me on several occasions.  The most recent was when my two cats for dentals.  I took them in first thing in the morning and got a call from Dr. Sighn during the second cat's dental that they had found a piece of tooth in his gum that had been left during a previous dental.  The doctor gave me some options because he was going to need to take out quite a few teeth and the cost would be different.  Of course, I have him take out all the teeth in question but I appreciated the call because it changed the cost.  After my problem cat and my other cat's completely normal dental, I was out around 800 bucks and, yes, that is a lot (I'm a grad student so money is pretty tight.  I'm not exactly rolling in it), but for the exact same dental at the vet I worked at on the problem cat it would have been 700 dollars JUST FOR HIM and they didn't have good equipment.  700 for one dental is also not unusual in Chicago.  Hell, I paid less for the uncomplicated dental here than I paid for a previous dental with a huge employee discount. I think the complaints in price are from people that don't understand exactly what goes into veterinary care.  When I picked up my cats, the Dr. Sighn showed me pictures taken during the procedure which made me feel great that he was so transparent.  The most important thing for me is my cats are COMFORTABLE here.  My one will eat treats while here (which never happens with cats at the vet and never happened previously with me) the other, more nervous one, will get up and walk around and doesn't shake or cry.  He doesn't like it but he's pretty comfortable.  This is very, very telling for me.  I am very paranoid with people I don't know and my cats.  Even vets.  I have heard enough horror stories from other techs at different vets that I generally don't let vets take my cats out of my sight until I decide I trust this person.  I, very unusual for me, let the vet take my cat out of sight on the first visit because I liked her and I liked how comfortable he was. I'm moving across the city in a month but I plan on renting zip cars when needed to get back here. Read Less

None of the original vets seem to work here anymore, though the office manager has been there for 30 years (per their website). We took my cat here for an emergency visit recently- they aren't my regular vet, but my family used them years ago and had been satisfied. the vet who looked at my cat seemed right out of school and didn't seem to recognized symptoms any cat owner would know. We were unimpressed, but she was friendly and told us we'd hear back once the results of a test came back.Dr. Sing is the one who called me and he tried to treat a  problem of crystals in the bladder with regular wet food and tried pushing behavioral therapy on me. I'm not one to discount behavioral problems in pets, but my pet has a physical illness that he did not treat properly. As a result, my cat almost went into kidney failure and has now had a catheter for 3 days. Luckily, he's now under the care of my regular vet. All this could have been prevented if Dr. Singh had treated him properly. When I called to speak with the office manager to express my concerns, I instead got a call back from Singh who talked down to me, blamed me, made up things we'd talked about, lectured me on how "almost all bladder issues including crystals in young cats is due to a behavioral problem (?!) and then... get ready for it... this is a doozy... told me if I was a professional, I would have known to DO MY OWN RESEARCH after he'd given me his diagnosis?!!?!? Best part is that I HAD done my own research and discussed what I'd read when we'd previously spoken. He also told me the office manager "did not need to call me back". I was glad when she did as I'd requested, but we didn't come to a satisfactory resolution. If you value your pets well being and life, please, please, find another vet. A little pricey but they provide quality care with a personal relationship.  I tried going to PetSmart for an ear infection once.. it was the animal equivalent of Cook County Hospital.  Waiting for hours with huge crowds of barking dogs and screaming kids.. NO THANKS.   Same thing with low-cost vaccinations at Petco.  One of my dogs is a bit "naughty" and has to be sedated before I bring her in.  The people at Abell know about this and treat her very gently.  They know my dogs and their quirks and it's really nice having that personal care.  Recently I brought them both for annual vaccinations and an exam.  They wanted to perform all these other extra tests that would have cost over $300.  I told them there was no way I could afford it and they removed it from my bill no questions asked.  We see Dr. Schoessow and she is so sweet and helpful.  Everyone on the staff is super friendly and I always have a fun time when I go there.  It's never crowded and always very clean.  The only negative thing about this place is the lack of parking.  You have to drive up and down Northwest Highway searching for a spot and then you have to deal with taking you dogs out of the car on a busy street.  I wish they would have purchased some of the vacant land nextdoor and made a private parking lot!

Read Less

Abell's practices are dangerous, incompetent and should be avoided at all costs. Read Less

Abell's practices are dangerous, incompetent and should be avoided at all costs. Read Less

Would not recommend taking your pet here (unless you don't mind being charged for work that does not need to be done or being overcharged for work that needs to be done). Get an estimate! But don't expect the estimate to match up with the work (costs will be higher, guaranteed! Yes, they will explain the higher costs w/you knowing it is just WRONG!). Doctor at Abell (Dr. Cheryl) appeared to understand and know her job but inexperienced in ways of "seeing the bigger picture". She did not convince me that the work she was recommending had to be done! I understand price is not a consideration when it comes to our beloved pets, but come on! I ended up going to an experienced vet for 2/3rd the cost and my pet is doing great! I would never go to Abell Animal Hospital again, never again!Read Less

I am looking to purchase a Cocker Spaniel. Before I visited this Vet, I watched the YouTube Videos at his website. I did NOT realize that English Cocker Spaniel may have a hearing problem. I did NOT realize that I could have a Cocker Spaniel tested for hearing problem. Several of my friends that have Cocker Spaniels said they have a lot of trouble training their dog. It was like the dog was NOT hearing them. Things that make you go HMMMMM…. Read Less
