I took my almost 5 year old, very anxious, male Yorkie in for a new visit due to some behavioral issues and anxiety. We could have not felt more welcomed. From the sign on the front desk welcoming him by name to everyone we came in contact with ( I’m so sorry I’m terrible with names!!) starting with the receptionist, vet tech and Dr. Janik. This review is long overdue. We have taken our dogs here since around 2002 or 2003. There are vet clinics that are closer in proximity to where we live & vets that are cheaper, but we would not trust anyone other than the vets at AMC. They have seen us through two of our dogs having cancer & the deaths of those two dogs between 2013 & 2017. Both times, we felt our dogs received the best treatment that prolonged their lives & that the vets were exceptionally compassionate ...when it was time to say goodbye to our pups. Now we have two other dogs who go to AMC. AMC continues to be very flexible with us, including fitting us in twice when one of our dogs has eaten dirty diapers off the street during early a.m. runs with me (the last time being hours before we were leaving the country!). A few days ago, they fit us in when I gave them no notice when one of our dogs broke out in hives (most likely spider bite) & I freaked out. The staff and Dr. Janik are amazing. We were dogsitting my parents dog for 2 months and she suddenly became ill. This place was very highly recommended to me by three people I know and now I know why. Dr. Janik took the time to go over everything not only with me and my husband but also my Mom and Dad in Florida. We spent quite a few days there and the entire staff always had so many sweet things to say about Dixie when we would pick her up after her treatments. I grew up with mostly outside pets that were given minimal vet care. I recently adopted a cat from a friend who sadly had to give her up after 6 years. The cat was on a medication for anxiety and, never having pets who needed meds before, I decided that when she ran out of the pills I would see how things went without them. Big mistake!! It was a blessing in disguise because I may not have sought out vet care for her otherwise. A friend suggested Animal Medical Center of Chicago, and we set up an appointment online right away for our first visit. The location is in an old house that was beautifully re-done. Walking into a house rather than a clinic was comforting. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They did their best to keep my cat happy the entire visit. We saw Dr. England: he was funny and kind and provided great explanations for everything. Fees were clearly presented to us on paper with "less expensive" and "more expensive" options depending on which tests we chose or opted out of. The entire visit was just incredibly pleasant. I visited Animal Medical Center yesterday for the first time and I was blown away. The facility itself is exceptionally clean and welcoming. I have never been to a vet office where every person on staff is not only friendly, but already aware that I have a horribly anxious dog. Every person I encountered was receptive to this fact and approached my dog cautiously and asked for permission before giving him any treats or attention. We met with Dr. Simpson, who I HIGHLY recommend. She's very knowledgeable and explains what she's doing every step of the way. She even asked if blood made me nauseous before taking a sample! The whole appointment was extremely thorough and felt more like a conversation than a veterinarian preaching medical jargon at me as it has felt in the past at other vet offices.My dog had his routine vaccinations done and they let him stay with us for comfort and even gave him baby food for a distraction which he LOVED.I was highly impressed with how fast I received CBC test results (sent out in the am and results by that afternoon). My pup had tested positive for Ehrlichiosis on his heart test and was clear on his CBC.  Dr. Simpson called me on both accounts to express what she felt was the proper course of action regarding the health of my pup and what to expect in the foreseeable future.If you have an anxious dog, this is the place to go! I have no negative feed back on the care my dog received at Animal Medical Center.  She was always well cared for, the staff and doctors were very courteous and professional. I left my original vet for one closer to my house as I believe in supporting my neighborhood businesses. That office closed up and my dog's medical files were transferred to AMC a year ago.  My dog had a number of visits over the past year and nearly all were for hot spots.  The treatment was spot on and the care exceptional.  The only issues we have is that every visit or followup call included a fairly hard sell of the dental cleaning for our dog.  The other was the markup for meds is far more expensive that online locations OR my other vet.  $5.61 per tablet vs $4 can add up. I would recommend they ease up on pushing dental services every visit by every doctor. It came off as too much over a 12 month period. I went back to my original vet because the care was great, it's more affordable and worth it, for driving an extra mile or two. Read Less

Having had a menagerie of dogs and cats of my own, plus rescue and foster dogs, I have decades of experience with dogs, cats and vets.   Between 1997-2011 all of my pets were treated by Dr. Donna Solomon.  Although I have since moved several times and have seen many vets, I never will forget the special care I had with Donna Solomon and Animal Medical Center.  It was an honor to have had her treat my pets for all of those years and she's the BEST diagnostic vet I've encountered.  Over the years, she earned my trust and I never questioned her determination to help me and my pets.  She is relentless in her pursuit of an evasive ailment and does not stop until she discovers the cause.  I also appreciated that she would always give me her opinion in terms of minimum treatment, medium treatment, most aggressive treatment options and what she would do if it was her pet.   Her staff is amazing and always demonstrated a love for my pets.  Whenever we went in, it felt like family.  It's a very special practice and Donna is a gem.  Also Dr. Pam Janik is extremely compassionate and top notch. As an aside detail.....I recall once Dr. Solomon gave me her cell number on a Friday night because she knew I would be taking my GSD into Buffalo Grove emergency care.  She called me over her vacation weekend to check on my pet, she also called the attending Dr. at the emergency clinic late night hours to consult with him over my pet's issue.  She expertly guided my GSD through Bloat and he made it through.  Where do you find dedication like this?  Prices can be on the higher side however the experience, level of care, equipment and expertise are well worth it.  They are fully staffed and have top level equipment. Our previous vet really struggled to figure out a treatment regiment to reduce our black lab's itching/allergy problem. We have found great results with Animal Medical Center and a noticeable change in our pup's health. As a side note, the setting of the clinic in an old converted house feels a lot less intimidating to our pet than previous vets housed in big, cold concrete structures.  They treat him so well that his reaction to going in is much more normal than it had been. From the reception desk to the experience of the Doctors here I never felt so good about stepping into a room with my son (dog) and speaking with a vet. They genuinely care so much are compassionate and understanding about pets here. Dr.Simpson is beyond AMAZING. My dog usually isn't very nice to others but she definitely had the magic touch with him. Feeling like I have a vet that isn't alarming about any condition possible has always been important to me. This place is seriously the absolute worst vet I have ever been to. Not only do they not care about the animals, all they are after is your money and don't care what the animal goes through in the process. My dog bit my roommates dog and after being there for an hour (in a waiting room and I had an apt) they showed up with an invoice for $600. It was a small bite and I just wanted them to clean it and make sure it didn't need a stitch. The doctor (don't know his name he never introduced himself) suggested sedating the dog so he could run all these insane tests. I walked out after paying $100 bc I "didn't have an apt". I stopped going here after they tried to give my dog a double shot after she had gotten the same one a week before they didn't keep a record of. THE WORST PEOPLE EVER. I will pay anything for my dog to be safe, but not just to run tests to run them. They wanted to charge me $300 to test his eyes so they could give him eye drops if needed? WHO DOES THAT. My roommate then took the dog to banfield and they charged her $156 for antibiotics and to clean it out..which is all they said he needed. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Both of the veterinarians that I have worked with here are absolutely wonderful and provide top-notch care for my dog, they are sure to understand my financial constraints since I am a student and always offer the best option for my dog and myself. They take their time and explaining everything to you and truly are wonderful at what they do. We moved here from California having had some bad experiences with our previous vets, this place truly made up for it. We were in a pinch when flying and I needed a letter of health for my dog, I emailed the office very late on a Saturday and was happily surprised that they were able to accommodate me and the veterinarian was super helpful making sure my dog would be able to travel with me. The vet we saw gave us a quote for $1,500 for a spaying & other things, so we went to another vet for a price comparison for the same procedures, testing etc that would have been done there & we were able to get the same thing done for $478.24. I don't even know when to start. My dog ate 2 packs of butter and was severely vomiting with blood. I called Animal Medical Center on busy Friday and they were able to squeezed me in for an appointment although their schedule was pretty full. I saw Dr. Solomon for the first time today and I can honestly say she's the best vet I've ever met! She's very thorough, attentive to little details and incredibly knowledgable. She gave me correct diagnose for my pup (butter was only a trigger) which some other vets failed to do. Dr. Solomon explained everything to me, answered all my questions and I've never felt rushed despite the fact that they had tons of patients this evening. The staff is phenomenal too, very friendly and kind. Also, I was really impressed with their ability to do blood work and other lab research right at the clinic and it only took 15 min to complete. Wow! I left with full diagnosis, all necessary medication and no need to be back to "drop off a stool sample". The prices are not cheap (honestly I don't know a cheap vet, you just have to bite the bullet), but in this case I really feel that for the exceptional service I received today, the money well spent and I'm truly satisfied with the outcome. They even put a jar of baby food with medication so my dog can swallow pills with a taste of beef and gravy:) How sweet! Thank you so much! My beautiful puppy Coco said goodbye to us last week. I had 12 great years with her, and everyone at AMC has been so great to her over the years. I think I started to bring her in when she was maybe 2 and up until her passing, she actually loved coming for her health visits, and really loved everyone there. This place has gotten to be an extreme rip off. the prices are outlandish. I used to use them many years ago around the 1990s, but they don't wish to work with knowledgeable owners who have performance dogs and breeding animals. I guess Donna Soloman's practice has grown to the point that customer service means little. Last year, they tried to charge me triple their quote for a dental.  The quote was $600+ and they wanted $1800.  We worked that out but it should not have happened.  An extra $1200 to extract 2 teeth - with no quote.  but now, I just had a conversation with the owner where she interrupted me and wanted to read the visit note to me and add her unnecessary and incorrect commentary.  There were 2 falsities just told to me:  one that I received a hemocrit number when I was at the visit, which I did not.   and second that Dr. England said that I had indicated that my dog frequently had diarrhea and I was not concerned about it since it happened so frequently.  what a crock of diarrhea that is!  Dr. Soloman needs to understand that there are some pet owners who have worked in medicine for 35+ years and we have a thorough understanding regarding health needs.  And she really should be returning my $26 to me. I did not get the hematocrit results the same day or while I was standing there as she suggested. In fact, I had to ask for them twice. Dr. Soloman should have felt honored that I even attempted to return to her practice since years ago when i brought a dog in that was deathly ill, she ignored him for 2.5 hours until Dr Janik got there.  I transferred him to a surgeon because he was bleeding out and had to be given an immediate transfusion when I arrived at the specialty clinic.  She was too busy to even look at him.  Janik knew right away what was happening and had been called in by one of the techs because they knew the dog needed immediate attention and Janik was due in at noon. When Soloman  opened her remodeled clinic she gave me the grand tour and wondered why I was not coming as often.  Well, here ya go.  Another prime example.  No thank you. I don't believe in the snottiness and rudeness that Donna Solomon just displayed.  She purposely called up to pick a fight because I filled our her emailed survey and stated I had not gotten my "immediate" hemotocrit results.  She can save her condescending tone for someone else. There are some of us who know how to treat our dogs and have had to do so emergently in the field. She doesn't really want people to fill out evaluations about her Clinic unless they are perfect. She was clearly angry that I criticized the fact that I did not get that $26 test results. And by her own behavior, she lost a client that spends a minimum of $8,000 a year on her dogs a year in Veterinary Care.  I just told her I would not be returning. They are fired.As a follow up- Donna Solomon messaged me - too little too late - and always has last word-itis.  This dog, just like I said, did NOT have parasites or a zoonotic disease (Dinnna loves to use big words to make herself feel important) he had inflammation in his large intestine and Flagyl was the appropriate medication.  Donna intercepted and interfered with my communication with the treating vet and was totally out of line because she ripped me off of $26.  Guess I am going to the vet review board. The care I've received has been incredible, they really seem to care about each of their clients and are great about following up after appointments to make sure things are going well. I take both my cats to AMC and have been going there for almost two years now. The staff and doctors are incredible. Caring, thorough and passionate about their work. I know my cats are in good hands with them. The only reason I gave them a 4 star versus a 5 star rating is the cost. They are fairly expensive compared to other vets, but do provide high-quality service, so, for me, it is worth the extra cost.Read Less

We take both our dogs, Penny and Pebbles, to AMC. We would never go anywhere else. The vets and staff at AMC have worked miracles with our dogs, both of whom have a lot of health and behavior issues. And they've worked miracles despite the fact that my husband and I are not experienced dog owners. We adopted Penny in 2009, and took her to see Dr. England upon recommendation from a neighbor. Over the first year, we found out that Penny had a whole host of health and behavioral problems. Poor Penny was just made wrong. We had no idea what to do. She was our first dog, and we were completely overwhelmed. The doctors and staff at AMC have walked us through everything- every bizarre diagnosis, every treatment, everything we could get OTC to save us money, the behavior challenges, and the specialists we have needed. Penny is now such a great dog, and so much healthier, and there is absolutely no way that we would be where we are without the years of unceasing support and care we've gotten from AMC. By the time we adopted Pebbles, we just skipped the free follow-up vet care that we got from the rescue and took her straight to AMC, because they are the only vets we really trust so much. Even though we've been through this once before with Penny and we're not complete novices anymore, Pebbles has still found ways to overwhelm us. Again, the doctors and staff at AMC have been incredible. Their diagnoses are spot on accurate, their knowledge of treatments is outstanding, and the support they give us as dog-parents is incredible. They also make it clear how much they love our dogs, and the dogs actually enjoy being at the vet! We trust AMC so much with our dogs. We have such a happy family, and we owe it to AMC for finding ways to keep two of the craziest dogs in Chicago healthy and happy, despite their naive parents. We are so grateful for not only the excellent veterinary care our dogs receive, but the unceasing support that AMC provides to us in order to enable us to care for them. I don't know why I waited to so long to write this review. I had a great experience with the Animal Medical Center of Chicago last fall with my hamster Princess Waffles when she broke her leg. Sadly, she has since passed on to hamster heaven, but I know that Dr. England drastically improved the time she had left. Everything from making the appointment, to payment, to follow up, to the handwritten card I got in the mail later, was handled in such a friendly and personal way. The staff put me at ease immediately by being supportive and informative. I really felt important and well cared for. I was also impressed with the way Dr. England respected my concerns with cost. I don't have much expendable income but I still wanted to care for Waffles the best I could. So he laid everything out for me before doing it so I knew what to budget for and gave me lower cost options whenever possible. I will definitely be bringing my other pets here in the future because I know we'll be taken care of by people who really love animals and know what they're doing. Read Less

Dr. Solomon gave too much anesthesia killing our dog. She informed me she used a new less forgiving anesthesia that she could not take back. She told me this was not the first time she lost a small dog to too much anesthesia, a yorkie. As heartbroken pet lovers, we recommend finding a vet with diligent use of anesthesia. Read Less

Unfortunately not a great experience for me. I used to live in Chicago, had a cat...they always would leave you waiting for an appt. Often left feeling scolded for not doing something right with my cat. Also, spent countless $$ on unneccesary procedures. Since left Chicago and have found a great vet in Minneapolis who is addressing my cat's needs correctly. Read Less

We took the cats in for a check up and had a very good experience. We have 2 high-strung cats, one of whom hates everyone (except us) and somehow they managed to keep them calm. If the cats ever need more significant medical attention, we'll feel very comfortable bringing them here. Read Less

I absolutely LOVE this place! I recently moved to Chicago and hadn't had a chance to find a vet before my dog got sick and needed to go. I was slightly nervous taking him to a new vet at a time when I needed expertise the most. As an Alumni of Michigan State University, I was happy to see on the website that it is owned by a MSU grad, as they have one of the top veterinary schools in the country. Dr. Waisburd, who I saw, graduated from Cornell, also one of the top veterinary schools in the country. I could not have been happier with my experience. Everyone was so friendly, helpful and caring. Prior to coming in they connected me with a vet technician to go over what I should do to help my dog feel better in the time before my appointment. When I arrived they were so loving and gentle with him. Dr. Waisburd did a thorough exam and went over everything with me. A few days later I received a thank you from the Dr. with a personal note inside. I really feel like they care. The office is modern yet homey. I liked that it didn't feel like a doctor's office.
