Burnham Park Animal Hospital

I was new to town and defaulted here because it is very close to my apartment. Amazing vets and staff. My beloved 12 yr old dog loved them. 6 months after moving here, she had to be put to sleep and because I could not take her "home" to AZ for it, we had to go here. I was a wreck. Everyone was very, very kind throughout the entire process. The staff explained everything when I made the appointment. The vet and the vet tech were very very kind and gentle during the euthanasia, and when I picked up her ashes, they had made a paw print in clay for me as a keepsake. If I ever get another pet, I'm taking them here. These folks are great. Read Less

Dr. B is amazing! He really comes with the animal, our puppy loves him. He is extremely warm and knowledgeable. I'm never afraid to ask questions even if they seem silly. Brought the pup in because we thought he was sick, Dr. B said he was likely just exhausted from the trip we had just taken and didn't charge for the visit. Wouldn't take my bully anywhere else! Dr Miller and Dr Clack are both knowledgeable, empathetic, sympathetic, kind and supportive, and honest and straightforward. I trust them both and they have been there for me thru multiple difficult decisions. They take time with you and explain everything and answer every question. They are medical professionals who use their brains and education and logic, but they have a wonderful and warm hearts as well, which for me is just as important. 💙 Read Less

I love the Vets there!! They do a great job caring for all the animals I bring in off the streets especially when I need a last minute urgent visit. They have been so accommodating for me that I don't mind paying a little more for their services. They've been wonderful with my own animal family as well. This is truly an animal hospital/clinic that cares for your pet. It is difficult when you have a sick pet, especially for the first time,  and you read reviews,  a person can get skeptical with knowing where to make an appointment because obviously,  you want the best care. Don't hesitate, this facility is very clean, staff is friendly and welcoming, Dr. Klack is so loving and patient. You will be very satisfied with the treatment your fur baby receives here. Read Less

I loved this vet. I have been here for both my cat and dog. My dog is a perfectly health corgi, while my cat is a problematic little jerk. Whether it be simple shots or a ruptured anal gland, every vet there is kind, compassionate, and capable! They talk to me like pet owner, not like a dollar sign. That was just a waste of $68. I brought my cat to Dr. Miller because I was looking for new vet. My cat needed new blood work and chest x-rays. Instead of reviewing her past records and actually taking an interest in what is going on the vet told me to take her back to my old vet. He wanted them to try and figure things out. After pontificating about nothing and droning on and on we had to book out of there immediately to go back to my old vet before it closed. This was a colossal waste of time and money. I was really disappointed with my visit here. I got an appoint for the evening which was nice at first but  the Dr. Just rushed through the appointment.I brought my cat here because she was having breathing issues, the tech took detailed notes and listened, But when the Dr. came in he rushed through my appointment and  never really adressed  my concerns about her breathing.The most infuriating thing was when he looked at her teeth he seemed to get excited saying "Oh yes she'll need to get a dental cleaning soon.I thought  "This guy just wants to make some money"I finally brought my cat to Metro Vet (AWESOME PLACE) and they did an x-ray and I found out she had asthma. I was really upset that it took going to three Animal hosiptals for a vet to take me seriously.If Burnham park would've not rushed through my evening appointment they might have caught it.. After all he could have made $$$ off of the X-Ray.Don't bring your pets here. Read Less

I was visiting from California, and my labradoodle got an ear infection.  I called, and they were able to fit me in.  Everyone from the reception to the doctor was wonderful.  Gentle, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain things and show me how to administer the medicine.  I am totally impressed with their care! I was very impressed with the doctors as well as the staff on my first visit. Like they say, first Impressions is everything. The doctor said that my dog needed surgery and promptly took action .They showed great communication skills before and after the surgery. The hospital took great care and showed much love to my dog for the few days that he was there. I dealt with 3 different doctors and all of them was patient. I highly recommend this hospital. If I could give this place a -100 I would! I gave them a good review a couple months back because their lady vet had done such a good job with my bulldog but I had an emergency today with my cat going into labor and the receptionist was beyond rude her name was Lara! Dr. Miller was the vet in today and he told them to tell me that he doesn't deal with breeding issues and to call somewhere else! What kind of response is that?! This is my normal vet office and you are not even giving me suggestions and saying you don't deal with breeding issues?! I am not a breeder my cat got pregnant and you are a vet you are supposed to help and have training for all animals isn' t that what you went to school for?! Or are you just winging it?! What a joke I will never return here again and suggest you don't take your pets here! You go to a vet for help not to be turned away. Lara was awful she said we are busy and we are closing at 6 keep in mind it is 3:00pm today. I asked well don't you guys take emergencies or what should I do just give me a suggestion she said "that's what emergency vets in Chicago are there for" thanks you idiot. I started going to Burnham Park Animal Hospital in 2013. They have the kindest vets and staff, everyone is very helpful. I had to put my dog down and Dr. Tara Clack was very supportive throughout the entire process. I have since moved from the South Loop area however still travel South to Burnham for my other pets. Dr. Miller is very helpful and friendly as well. They also go over all charges with you in detail, and do not make you feel nickle and dimed or pressured. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a new vet in the area. Read Less

They offer extremely compassionate and thorough pet care. We have also found their staff great with humans, even going so far as to send us a casting of our late cat's paw prints upon her passing.  This place is fantastic! Read Less

I have been bringing my dogs, cat, rabbits to this vet for over 20 years. Dr. B is the best vet and I trust him with my pets. He has the most advanced knowledge in all areas and I derive over an hour to see him with my dogs. When he was out recovering from an injury I had to use other vets and they didn't come close to his level of ability. Read Less

BPAH is a dream! I've been taking my kitties there since getting Biscuit in Jan 15. The front desk staff, vet techs, and vets are all so pleasant and kind. Biscuit is pretty low maintenance except for junky teeth - he gets an annual teeth cleaning under anesthesia, which can be a little stressful but the team is great. Jam is my money pit kitty. He is missing a front leg and developed phantom limb (yeah, I know, ridiculous) which required numerous vet trips and rounds of meds. Dr. Miller is my go to vet - he clearly loves animals and cares about their well being. He is thoughtful, thorough, and efficient in his exams and recommendations. I cannot recommend Burnham Park Animal Hospital (and Dr. Miller) enough for your furry friends! Read Less

These vets are up-to-date on treatments, not too progressive yet not too conversative on their treatment protocols. They're patient, kind, and willing to make sure you completely understand even the most complex of treatments. Every one of the vets here clearly loves animals, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to every single person who has an animal. Read Less

I only go here when I can't get to my regular vet in the burbs. It feels like they are trying to make money off of you instead of caring about your pet. The staff does not come off as empathetic and once I overheard them making fun of my dog. They get the job done which is why I'm giving them 3 stars, but I try to avoid going here. Read Less

I love this place! I came for the good reviews about a year ago, and they fixed up my rescue dog so good. I moved way to the North Side this year, and started to go to another vet, but when they were full for surgery I came back to Burnham. They did such a good job and diagnosed things my other vet didn't that I may come back to them. The ladies who work there are all sweethearts and very smart, and the senior male vet who I haven't met seems completely awesome too. Price is on par with the service. Completely worth it. Do the smart thing if you have an accident etc. pet and get yourself pet insurance that will reimburse you a lot. My dog went in for surgery recently and while that was painful, she seemed to enjoy getting pets and scratches from the walker tech person. Read Less

This may be the best place in Chicago to get your animal treated - I wouldn't know. My dog and I just moved to the area and hadn't yet found a new vet, having only been here 3 weeks. When my dog came down with an anal gland infection, I called to see if Burnham Park could see him over the weekend. They had an open appointment on Sunday and asked for my name and number. When they couldn't find me in the registry (they didn't ask if we were existing clients first, just for my name and number), I said, "of course we're not in there, we haven't seen you yet." At which point the receptionist told me, literally, "Oh, sorry, Sundays are just skeleton staff and appointments are reserved for our clients." Shouldn't your clients be animals that need treatment? Wouldn't I be a client the moment I walked through your doors to have my dog treated?While she did offer me an appointment Monday evening, that means my dog would have to wait 2.5 days to get treatment. I'm quite certain I can find another vet in Chicago who would like to treat my dog more expediently - that's the vet that will have me as a client. Read Less

Exam rooms and reception areas are always super-clean € even my most timid cat is relaxed here (which has never happened at other vets, and I have the scars to prove it!). Have been coming here for a good handful of years, at this point € pro tip: Dr. Miller is hands-down the best. Most mild-mannered and gentile, soft-spoken and exceptionally engaged. Have seen most/all(?) of the other staff vets over the years€ can't say I'm a fan of all (and there's a couple I'd never go to again)€ but Dr. Miller's presence keeps up coming back as regular patients. We moved to the area in the past year and chose Burnham Animal Hospital for our beagle's care due to the convenience of the location.  I have been extremely happy with the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the office, the ease of getting an appointment and most important the quality of care provided by the doctors.  The first doc we saw was Dr. Olson.  She was so kind and compassionate and provided great  care as our dog had to have surgery that day.      Sadly, our beagle became very ill recently and had to be put down after a wonderful 16 year life.  The day we brought him in, we saw Dr. Clack Bell.  She was extremely helpful in guiding us through making the decision if the time was right to let him go.  You could tell how much she really cared.  She didn't push us and gave us all the time we needed to decide how to proceed.  I will always remember her kindness to us.  This is a wonderful place to get quality, compassionate care for your pet. I have only been to this vet once, and I am so glad I did. They are open a bit later than other vets, which is nice because I work long hours and most places are closed by the time I am out of work. I was seen right away and all of my questions were answered kindly and with respect. And my cat was calm enough to lay down in the office, rather than pace like he normally does! They called to check up on him and gave me advice when I called back. They treat your pet as a priority and not as a burden. When it comes time for my pups visit, I will surely go back! Burnham Park Animal Hospital saved my cat!  My cat suddenly had seizure on Sunday.  My regular vet doctor was closed.  I was not sure where to find an animal hospital that was open.  Luckily that this place was open on Sunday.  The doctor and technician jumped into action to save my cat.  My cat situation got stabilized.  They told me to rush my cat to MedVet Emergency Room.  I did.  Now my cat returned home from 4 days of hospital at MedVet and quite recovered.  I am so grateful. The staff, service and care here is outstanding. I have been with them through two dogs over the span of ten plus years.  Although my current 110lb- 3yr old Rottweiler dislikes the fact that he's there, they make the experience as calm and enjoyable as  possible for both of us. This is the best veterinary place I have been to. They care for their patient and the owner. Our dog is a big dude with fear aggression issues who is petrified at the vet.All veterinary staff have been so understanding of our dog issues and always worked with compassion and care with him. It is hard for a reactive dog owner to not feel judged when your dog gets out of control because of fear. BPAH always made me feel comfortable and they are absolutely supportive. Our dog is treated for his fear aggression issues and we have a trainer with who we are working to lower the issue. It is a long process and BPAH has been awesome. We go there for our dog check up, vaccines and emergency needs. I am extremely pleased with them. Read Less

We love BPAH. We have three dogs , all starting to be senior, and they have taken amazing care of them. Our boys have been treated here for about 5 years and always had only excellent care. We have seen every vet in the practice and truly appreciate their time, patience and calm approach to every issue. We have brought the boys here for everything for emergencies , regular check ups and boarding. They offer excellent care for boarding and feel good knowing they care for our boys like their own. One of the vets, Dr. Clack, gave me very good advice while one of our dogs was involved in a trauma and she said ask the specialist "What would you do if it was your dog?" I thought was extremely compassionate advice and how all the vets at BPAH approach their care. Definitely have recommended them to many friends and will continue to always. Read Less

Found BPAH almost 10 years ago when we were turned away by my previous vet during an emergency situation. These guys are awesome! I can't say enough good things about the folks at Burnham Park Animal Hospital. From our initial visit w/our Shecky (a Corgi/Sheltie/maybe Spaniel mix), to the day I showed up w/Shecky having a bobby pin clamped on (and I thought possibly thru) his right earflap (thanks to one of my kids...then a 2nd?-grader), and on through another 9 or so years, until last year when we had to say goodbye to our much loved furry family member, the staff at Burnham Park were always both professional and personable. You have to give 1 star to post....but they are not even worthy of 1 star!!!!For those of you like me, that think of your pets as your children, my experience with the staff at BPAH should deter you from ever patronizing! I have been paying their exorbitant fees & tolerating the nasty front desk staff since 1998!! Yesterday my dog suffered what I now know was a seizure. My dog has never been sick so imagine the fear that overtook me to find my dog convulsing, incoherent & unable to stand. I rushed out of my house carrying my limp & what I thought dying dog to arrive at my car to realize in my haste, I didn't have my keys!!! I jump into a cab, passing the dog clinic located on my block, to get to the place 10 blocks away that have known my dog since 1998! I called on the way to alert the vets of my crisis. Upon my arrival, the nasty receptionist says, you owe us from a previous visit. Shortly after visiting in January, my wallet was stolen which held my checkbook. I closed the account prior to their check clearing. I received one email and I thought my husband handled and he thought I handled.....clearly an over-site. But whatever, I'll handle it....we have a crisis NOW! They refused treatment and told me to go to the cash station on the corner. I ran to find it was out of order. I then jump in a cab, went home to retrieve my car keys, drive to the bank and arrive with the money....30 minutes later. The rude receptionist then says, there were fees leaving me $60 short. I said I would write a check or bring back cash....can we look at my dog? They refused and suggested I go somewhere else. WTF!!! Again I've been a client since 1998 and I have 2 dogs!!! I have always paid upon receiving treatment and I have recommended several clients....I'm a wonderful and loyal client and they turned me away with an extremely sick dog for $60 & the explanation of ""its just our policy""!!!! I frantically drove to the clinic I passed & upon seeing the distress of both myself & my pet, the doctor took me in right way and began to access my dog. No discussion of money just how he could care for my pet. I am shocked and discussed with the lack of treatment, concern & care I received at BPAH. When I needed them the most, they weren't there!!! South Loop Animal Hospital has won my affection. They took excellent care of both me & my pet. The fees were fair and it was extremely clean & professional. They even called to make sure we were both ok today. I will NEVER trust BPAH again ....they just don't freakin' care!!! NEVER TRUST YOUR LOVING PETS TO THIS CARELESS...AND I DO MEAN THEY COULD CARE LESS PLACE!!!! Lastly, let me be specific....my dog walker, turned manager of the place Eric (all of 12 yrs of age (being facetious ) should be ashamed!! He was very callous! Dr. B is super rude. He rushed through the appointment then took my dog for the day to perform the ""care"" and by the time I came to pick him up, he was shaking and so terrified, I was questioning what had been done to him. He's usually fine at a vet's office. And when we got home he drank a whole bowl of water, which only makes me think he hadn't had water all day. $900 later, I'm still wondering what made him so terrified that his entire body was trembling by the time I got back... It's first time ever I am writing the post on the web, but I really wanted to share the experience about my favorite Veterinarian - Dr. Bruederle (Dr. B). I know how hard it can be to find a good Vet. It's been a year since the first visit and I must say it was well worth the time I invested in finding Dr. B. He is one of the BEST Vets in the city. I did a lot of research before going to Burnham Animal Hospital on State Street to see him. I've been taking my two bulldogs to him and I must say I am very impressed! Dr. B always takes time to listen and gives good advise, he is very honest and has friendly staff. I highly recommend Dr. B especially if you are looking for a BULLDOG specialist -he is very knowlegabale!!! My French and American Bulldogs - they both love him! Plus, my pets have always been getting free kisses from Dr. B too :o) Read Less

Fraud. In one word, that is this Dr. Bruederle's (""Dr. B"") style. I brought my 2 year old small dog in because she was screaming everytime I touched her paw. The doctor charged me $500, put a cast on her foot and sent us off on our way. (I never received a diagnosis when I picked her up, and they forgot to give me the pain medicine's so I had to leave work early one night to go back to pick those up.) I then found out later that SHE NEVER HAD A BROKEN FOOT! The poor thing was stuck in a cast for weeks when she had just pulled out her toe nail. When I called later, the vet agreed that he ""missed"" that in the x-rays and doesn't remember counting the toe nails. Did I get a refund for the $500? Absolutely not. He fraudulently charged me $500 for a pulled out toe nail, which 6 other vet's offices told me could've been cured with some soap and water and an anti-biotic. If you'd like a misdiagnosis to up-charge you a few hundred $$$, certainly try out this vet. Read Less
