Chicago Cat Clinic

Chicago, Illinois
General Info
Chicago Cat Clinic in Chicago structures each appointment like a quiet rhythm—repeating actions and spatial cues that keep animals anchored. The care model extends its support network to families throughout the state of Illinois. The configuration of appointment rooms remains identical each day with furniture placement, lighting arrangements, and entry points fixed to eliminate unneeded decision-making. Staff members exhibit limited vocal variation and restricted movement patterns while incorporating pauses between procedures to help pets adjust. The management of odors receives attention as scents get neutralized between visits to prevent sensory accumulation. The orientation pattern of pets dictates whether owners should position themselves nearby or at a distance. Chicago Cat Clinic delivers services including diagnostic testing and infection control along with joint health assessments and nutritional modifications while also offering behavioral consultations and recovery monitoring. Services emerge within a flow instead of appearing as checklist items. The animal turns away or lowers their ears, prompting the staff to re-establish familiar cues through repeated low-impact actions like air stroking or offering a tactile anchor such as a towel or sleeve. The post-care protocols demand a rhythm-based reintegration process. Families receive instruction on maintaining consistent morning routines post-procedures while learning to reduce home stimuli and employ soft ambient sounds to adjust sleep cycles. Instructions transcend simple prescriptions by incorporating environmental adjustments to assist pets in resuming their daily activities without disorientation. Chicago Cat Clinic extends its veterinary services from Chicago to nearby Illinois towns by employing natural animal regulation techniques which include gentle rhythms, predictable spaces, and low-noise decision-making.

We have a senior cat that has been having some major issues. After trying several vets in the suburbs we were getting discouraged and spending quite a sum of money for visits. one day I just Googled Cat vets, and Chicago cat Clinic came up. I called and they said a doctor would call back. The same day I received a call from Dr. Munoz who spent a good 20 minutes of her time with me in regards to our cats issues. I made an appointment and she came up with a game plan and stayed in contact with me along the way. I am very secure in her ability as a Vet and her ability to go the extra distance by phone to help us out. We live in the western suburbs so it's a good trek to get to her, and we are dedicated to her service and the service of the clinic.Tony LaBrasca. Read Less

I have been a customer of Chicago Cat Clinic for over a year and spent in excess of $1000.00 in fees, but apparently asking for a refill of prednisone was too much for them to handle. They demanded a blood test costing $80.00 for a refill of the prescription which cost $10.00. Also, at other times they would want a blood test for no reason, My cat isn't sick why do you want a blood test. They would become surly or offended. You have to watch them constantly or they will inflate the bill with any number of possible charges. They are not to be trusted. Even lf you think you have a vet you can trust they will try to give you a vet you've never seen before and so the game begins again. I will not be going back to this clip joint. Read Less

I believe this place does have the best interest for your pet. If I stayed with this vet, I'd probably have my cat by my side today. My cat of 18 years left me a few days ago. His vet, pets first, didn't diagnose him correctly. Recently, my cat took a dive and I just had to do what none of us wants to do. I went in for a second opinion and  Dr. Nordwall saw him for the second time, first time was in April. But due to distance, I stayed with Pet First. When I brought my frail cat in, he asked the questions and I knew what needed to be done. The most difficult decision and heart breaking event you'll ever go through. Dr. Nordwall and Kim from the front desk were beyond supportive. The moment was the most difficult I'd even imagined and ever felt, but they were supportive and gave my boy the love and respect as if he was their own. I was on the phone getting arrangements for him made at hinsdale and I saw Dr. Nordwall walk out of the room with my boy in his arm wrapped in his blanket, and that told me he'd be ok in their arms.My second cat will go to no one but Chicago cat clinic. I don't know of the other doctors at this place, but Dr. Nordwall and Kim are and will be my babies caretakers. Plus, this place and them both mean a lot to me because my boys last time was in their care. Read Less

Two stars for easiness of making appointments and vet techs being super nice and sweet with my cat. I wish I could say the same about the Vet. She was pretty rough with my cat every time we saw her, to the point of me almost loosing it and grabbing her by the hair. Listen lady, if you are in rush or perhaps hating your job then quit. You should not be handling distressed cats or their owners. Second of all her 'diagnosis' was faaar from truth, not going to much into details I was told it could be possible cancer and if it is cancer there is nothing they can do! This 'diagnosis' based on no tests or even an x-ray almost broke my heart. How can you say such thing without proper exam??!!  For the 'care' I received from this place I was charged a lot of money, every time I went there I spent at least $250 and we are talking simple tests here. Double the price for meds I buy now from Chicago Pet Clinic. Unnecessary treatments and unnecessary recommendations to other places and now we are talking thousands of dollars. Thank God I called my old vet at Chicago Pet Clinic and they were able to take us in after long wait. They are alway booked days or weeks in advance, no wonder they are the best vets in Chicago. Doctor Andy calmed me down and right away said 'cancer? what cancer? who told you that?' We've been going to Chicago Cat Clinic for years, and I want to make a special note about our most recent experience there.Saturday morning we found one of our cats barely able to move--he had been fine on Friday--and were told to bring him in immediately. Dr. Larissa spent hours with us on Saturday trying to determine what was wrong. Sadly, by Monday it was clear that he was not going to get better, and she carefully guided us through our choices for him.Throughout the weekend, what meant the most was Dr. Larissa's compassion for both us and our companion. Her kindness and caring made the sad ordeal a little more bearable, and in fact everyone in the clinic was very gentle and concerned for us.I also want to note that Dr. Larissa has been helping us with our 17-yr-old cat who has a chronic condition, making sure that she is staying comfortable with the help of medication. And again, every time we bring that cat in, it feels like Dr. Larissa cares as if it were her own cat.I want to say thank you to them all, and I completely recommend them to all cat owners. Read Less

We typically see Dr. Larissa, so I'm going to base this review off of our dealings with her. We were patrons of another cat vet, but we wanted to try a change because one of our cats had chronic diarrhea and we didn't really get answers from the other place.  She diagnosed our guy with IBD and put him on some medication and scheduled some follow up visits.  We felt comfortable enough with Dr. Larissa that we began to scheduled appointments for our other cats to be seen and while we were there, we told her about the new behavior of one of our cats.  She said to bring him in at the end of the day so she could see him, and blood work showed he was extremely sick and most likely would never recover from this.  I made the difficult decision to have him put down, and sweet Dr. Larissa cried with me.  When a vet will cry with you over a cat she has never met before, we knew we had found the right place to bring our much loved cats to.  I don't regret once going to Chicago Cat Clinic, and yes, while their prices are a little high, they are right on par with other vets we have been to.  Your cats deserve the loving treatment they will get from this outstanding team! Lemme start by saying that I'm SO thankful that my previous veterinarian pointed me in the direction of this clinic! I had to relocate myself and my furry companion, Dairy, to Chicago from Florida before she could have some teeth extractions and a lump removal. Needless to say, I was eager to call up this clinic and get that process over with... Nervous for my Dairy, I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff and Dr. Munoz. Goodness, she's incredibly sweet! She made sure to give me all the information I needed while being gentle with Dairy. Dairy is friendly by nature, but she almost fell asleep while Dr. Munoz examined her. If that's not a seal of approval, I don't know what is! The procedures went well, and I was able to take Dairy home the same day. The staff had already grown so attached to my little girl that they seemed sad to see her go, and made me very aware that I could call them if I had ANY questions at all. Bring your furbabies to this clinic. I'm serious! You won't regret it, and your babies will thank you!! Read Less

The Chicago Cat Clinic has seen me through the highs and lows of being a cat momma.  It began many years ago when I took in a stray I named Cleo.  Cleo had digestive problems and was constantly at the vet who's treatment consisted of  - "document" "watch".  I complained  to a friend about this and she suggested CCC.  Even before examining Cleo, the vet listened and immediately knew what the problem was.  After 2 years of problems Cleo's digestive issues were under control within a week. When I brought in a kitten I had picked up off the streets during a particularly cold January all 4 paws were frostbitten and caked with dirt and street salt.  I was the last appt that day.  Dr Nordwell stayed late that night to care for my kitten, performing surgery to repair his paws.Their current staff, from the women who greet you at the front desk, to the vets, to the vet techs in the back are so caring and thoughtful, always ensuring you and your cat are well cared for.  They take the time to answer your questions in a way you understand.  They return your calls the same day and have always made time for emergencies.  And when "that time" comes that we all dread, they are compassionate, understanding and feel your loss as if it was their own. They are the best vet clinic for our cats. I was a feline foster home for 16 years.  On hiatus at the moment.  I know cats pretty well.  I have seen a lot of vets in the last 25 years, more than your average cat parent.  Some are great, some are not.I first went to the CCC in 1988 when Dr. Stein (founder and nationally renowned vet) owned and ran the practice.   My cats were cared for there exclusively until I moved to the suburbs a few years later and the long trip to Dr. Stein for yearly checkups was too much. For cat care, they are and have been among the best in Chicago for as long as I have been caring for cats.I have taken every cat of mine with a serious illness to the CCC for a second opinion.  They have always given me nothing but the best care for my cats.  Always. They are and always have been more expensive than any of the other vets from the very first day I went there.  When I was younger, it shocked me and my budget.  I encourage you to discuss costs up front if you have have concerns.   There is nothing worse than picking kitty up from a teeth cleaning to get a bill triple the size you are expecting. They always lean towards doing more rather than less to try to give the cats the best care they can.   Know this going in and work with them to do what is best for your kitty and your budget. I have worked with them in the 80s, 90s, 2000s and they have always been excellent from the days of Dr. Stein through Dr. Nordwall purchasing the practice.   My most recent CCC clinic patient passed with a massive tumor about 14 months ago and he was seen by Dr. Nordwall immediately after first diagnosis.  Their exclusive work with felines does allow them more knowledge and did make a difference in my cat's last couple months.  I have now returned to the city 20 years on. Tomorrow, myself and my two kitties return to the CCC as regular customers. I put 4 stars above only because they are more expensive.  They get 5 stars in my book for everything else.  They might be a little old school but I'll take expensive veterans over cheap anytime.EDIT: After going just now for a yearly exam, vaccinations and a geriatric blood panel for my oldest I continue to be amazed at the pricing here.  It is very hard to justify what they are charging for the basics.  I still love them and you get great care but be prepared to need a loan to pay for it. Dr. Olenych and Dr. Marzec were always gentle in exams, proactive with treatment (without attempts to "upsell") and attentive to follow-up, patient with our questions, and extremely knowledgeable/thorough when explaining test results. A one star rating is pretty harsh, but the attitude of the older woman working at the front desk and answering the phones is enough to have ruined my entire experience.  A friend had warned me about her (she's mentioned in other Yelp reviews--if it's the same woman), but I'm usually oblivious to mean old ladies, and loved the idea of a cats-only practice.Any tests or treatments are performed out of the owner's sight; the cat is brought to the back.  When I called to find out whether or not I could stay with my cat while he had his ears cleaned for his follow-up visit, her response was a nasty, mini-tirade which included how she doesn't like owners being in the way, and isn't comfortable being watched by the cat's owner when she draws blood.  I can understand why a veterinarian would have this policy, even though I, personally, want to see what's being done to my cat and how he's being treated.  ESPECIALLY if the grandma from hell is allowed near him.  Her bad attitude was not at all necessary, and I think it speaks volumes about the owner of the practice if he's willing to keep this hateful lady around.  They should be catering to the needs of their feline patients and their owners--not the needs of their 135 year old secretary/vet tech. Their prices are a lot higher than average for the Chicago area ($76 for the exam alone), and they do push a lot of extras.  Whether that's because they are looking to make more money per client, or genuinely trying to offer the best care for their patients, I don't know.  I'm fine with paying a little more to know that my cat is getting the best care, but higher prices should include awesome customer service. I love Chicago Cat Clinic....especially Dr. Marzec and Dr. Nordwall...both of them are super gentle and very thorough.  I have two cats and had to take both of them in at the same time, and both doctors were always really accommodating.  I've taken them there since I adopted them in 2005.  We saw Dr. Marzec a few more times than Dr. Nordwall, so I can comfortably comment that she is great with cats, has a natural empathy for them and is very helpful with all of her explanations and suggestions. The staff at the front desk is always nice and helpful.  The clinic itself is older, but super clean and I always felt good about taking my babies there.  I've never found them to be any more expensive than any of the other neighborhood vets, and I like the fact that they exclusively treat cats...so my cats don't have to freak out in the waiting room from any other animals. We did bring the cats to the third vet once, Dr. Olenych...but I just didn't gel with her, and just really loved Dr. Marzec and Dr. Nordwall so much more, so I made appointments with them exclusively after that. i went in on monday with my cat. they took her in the back for some test. the doctor came back and asked me if they could trim her nails. I agreed she then came back and said that my cat had cut herself and that they would have to stich her up. I asked to see my cat. The cut was huge there is no way that her nail could have caused that big of a wound. she glued the wound and charged me for it. When i got home she was bleeding i called the chicago cat clinic and was told by the receptionist that if i didnt get there within 20 mins the doctor would leave. i rushed back in and the doctor recommended that i take home a neck shade so she couldnt lick her wound. which i had to pay for as well. i called back the next day for the results of the test and was placed on hold for 20 minutes. I called the day after and i was told that the doctor who saw my cat would not be in and that i would have to wait til friday. i called back and was directed to the first lady who denied saying i couldnt speak with the doctor and said he would call me back. i have been waiting for the past two hours for a call back Read Less

I would definetly reccomend this Clinic to anyone who truely cares about their cats. The staff are so caring and make you feel so welcome there. I got greeted with a smile from the receptionists and everyone there was very knowledgeable. I did think it was a little epensive but considering the quality of care the my cat got I know it was worth it. I was impressed when I actually got to speak with the doctor personally the next day about my cats lab results. (at other clinics you either get to speak to a receptionist or a tech at the most) but even though all my cats levels were normal, I found it reassuring the the Doctor spoke to me personally about them. If you are looking for individualized care for your cat's I would definetly rteccomend the Chicago Cat Clinic! Read Less

I'm moving to Chicago from out of state and called to get some information in addition to what was on the CCC website. I own two cats and they have always had the best care. Let it be known that people who answer the phone in any business can gain or lose potential customers. In my case, the woman who answered the phone at CCC was obnoxious. I asked her to tell me about the doctors in the practice (where did they get their DVM; what's their specialities; how long have they each been practicing------information that I don't believe is unreasonable to ask when entrusting the care of my cats to someone. I also asked about boarding, since I am moving to the area and need a place to board the cats at least for a day or two while the movers and unpackers are at my home. The short of this story is the lady I spoke to besides being amazingly unfriendly to the point of being rude didn't have any answers to my questions. She also told me ""they don't believe in boarding cats"" and could give me names of pet sitters. When I tried to explain that I wanted them to be safe while the movers were at my house, she still didn't get it. The bottom line of this story is I don't care if this was the very first cat-only clinic in Chicago, if they cannot be bothered to train their people or pay them well enough so that the person answering the phone is welcoming to a new client, then I don't need them either. If this were the only cat clinic in the entire state of Illinois, I'd sooner drive to Wisconsin than have them treated in this clinic because my cats deserve better and so do I! Read Less

This is the most a-mazing vet. I've had 8 cats in my life and Dr. Nordwall, Dr. Olenych,  and Dr. Marzec have kept them happy and healthy through their geriatric years. Stray kitties tend to find me. Dr. Olenych is always honest about the possible cost of every test which is SO wonderful for a multiple cat household. dr. nordwall has  performed multiple procedures including a stomach biopsy which helped find the rest meds for kitties cancer. They have kept my kitties healthy through kidney issues, heart problems, and cancer AND my new pregnant kitty. I live  on the far south side now and still take my cats here because the care is so wonderful. I love the techs, and the people who answer the phones. This is a really great place!!!! Read Less

The Chicago Cat Clinic is a great place to bring your kitties.  I started going here in the late 80's and ended up switching to a cheaper vet for a few years.  After one of my kitties was misdiagnosed and became quite ill.  We brought him to Cat Clinic and saw Dr. Nordwall and he was quickly diagnosed and treated.  I'm sorry I ever went anywhere else.  Yes they are expensive and I believe you get what you pay for. I cannot recommend this place enough. Skilled and compassionate vets, super friendly staff, and a clean, stress-free, cat-only office. Despite the slightly out-of-the-way location, I've been taking my cats here since they were stray kittens who needed shots and fixin'. It wasn't until my oldest kitty got sick, however, that the clinic really began to shine. Dr. Olenych and Dr. Marzec were always gentle in exams, proactive with treatment (without attempts to "upsell") and attentive to follow-up, patient with our questions, and extremely knowledgeable/thorough when explaining test results. When she eventually passed, we got a very sincere and touching condolence card... and a surprise hug from Dr. Olenych the next time I was in the office. A truly wonderful clinic, and I wouldn't take my cats anywhere else. Read Less

Read Less
