Called because my male cat had common urinary blockage signs. City Cat agreed it's an emergency and I should bring him in right away. Only to find out they don't handle this type or many other emergency procedures like this.....so why have me rush in!?!? City Cat then charged $300 and sent us to MedVet. I asked City Cat why they would have me come in knowing they don't do this procedure and not just send me to MedVet directly? They said they wanted to make sure he was stable. This place is useless unless you like wasting money. Try calling in to ask a question they will answer with this "we do have appoinments open today if you would like to bring him in" then call another vet with the same question you will get some sort of help from that Bet instead of trying to force you to make an appointment. Plus you get spamm mail from them atleast 3 times a day trying to sell you something. Read Less

Took my cat here over the weekend for the first time. As the daughter of a vet, I was hesitant to take him to a vet other than my dad. After being in Chicago for a year I knew I had to go for it so after reading some reviews decided on City Cat Doctor. I saw Dr. Tessler and worked with Susan the vet tech and had a great experience! Both were incredibly sweet and answered all of my questions. They did not push any extra exams or vaccines; simply a wellness exam and one vaccine (they even realized my mistake when I said I thought he was due for rabies when he is actually not due for another year). On top of that, I received a call today to check in on my cat. I will definitely be back! Read Less

We've been taking our cats to City Cat Doctor for approximately 4 years, give or take.  I would have to say my main reason is that it is a feline-only clinic.  I feel like this lessens the stress of an already stressful situation for cats.  (I have been to another area clinic where they have separate waiting areas and exam rooms for dogs and cats, but some clients ignore this and bring their dogs on the cat side, defeating the purpose, and the staff doesn't intervene!)We brought our first cat here after the other clinic was rather dismissive of his uncharacteristic vomiting, and prescribed Pepcid and sent us on our way.  When it continued, we went and saw  Dr. Anthony, and she immediately felt something in his belly upon examination.  Long story short, he had a large tumor in his abdomen, and did not survive the surgery recovery in the clinic.  The prognosis was not good anyway, as it usually is not with cancer in pets.  Still a tough loss.We brought our next adoptee to City Cat Doctor, and all has been well in so far as our visits there for the past 3 years.  Taylor at the front desk is very pleasant and easy to deal with.  Dr. Anthony is also very good, as are the technicians.  They are obviously very cat-centric and affectionate toward the cats, whereas at other clinics, many times the vets seem to prefer, or specialize in dogs.  Our current boy has unfortunately required 2 dental surgeries for extractions of many diseased teeth, and is doing well.  Better in fact since he's probably no longer in pain!  We visit once or twice a year routinely, and have no complaints.  My only small complaint is that they are expensive for nail trims that are not part of a scheduled appointment, when they are no charge. (He's too much of a spaz to do it ourselves!) They bill it as a technician visit.  So we go to another clinic for that monthly since they're almost half the cost.I'm sad to see the bad reviews, but not surprised.  Medical services for people and pets often are the most emotionally charged reviews, and can be all over the place.  I just wanted to add that I've had good experiences with City Cat Doctor and would recommend giving them a try. I think City Cat Doctor is Excellent. I used them years ago when I lived downtown. Changed when I moved further South. I have 6 cats & am not an expert but pretty familiar with their behavior. I decided to go back to them because they listen to me. They take what I say seriously & don't talk above me. I live with my cats. They realize this is a large piece of the diagnosis. Within the past few years I had 2 cats pass due to what I believe was a combination of not listening to me & misdiagnosing the cat. Given it is a cat only facility, your cat is less anxious. And I also believe it goes without saying they know more about cats because that is all they work with. Always nice & pleasant. Easy to reach & talk to. I am staying put.Read Less

This place is basically awful. The vets forgot about my kitten's umbilical hernia when they were doing his neuter surgery--even though both vets mentioned it to me at his checkups and I am assuming it had to be on his chart. Because they forgot, they put my tiny kitten under anesthesia a second time within hours of the first time using a different drug. The drug they used caused a bad allergic reaction AND caustic burns all over his tongue. They sent him home with me like that really downplaying his condition. No one told me to take him directly to emergency for his condition when he was released to me. I spent that night not sleeping and hoping he would improve. He did not. I took him back to City Cat Doctor and the doctor could do nothing and was rude to me. She called my little baby who is as sweet as ever ornery, essentially blaming him for her error because he was a kitten and had a lot of energy. She also asked me why I did not take him to the ER? I told her because you made this not sound like an emergency!!!! Anyway, I had to take him to the ER vet because of City Cat Doctors costly mistakes. At the ER vet they were upset that City Cat did not recommend and insist to me that he needed to go to the ER the night I picked him up. At the ER, he had to have an oxygen cage, intravenous pain meds and antibiotics, and an Esophageal tube. He stayed there at the ER for almost a week. His ER vet bills are now up to 5,165 all thanks to City Cat Doctors mistakes. DO NOT GO THERE EVER!!!!!!!! Read Less

Read Less

I loved the staff here so friendly and relaxing to be around. My cat Mr. Valentino HATES going to the doctor but the vet and her assistant here were beyond patient and let Mr. Valentino fight his valiant battle against his shots. They persisted and they were way way beyond patient even though he hissed and growled at all of us. My cat is NOT easy to manage so I am grateful the vet here was so kind and understanding.<3 thanks again!!! Read Less

The vet was very nice, however this vet office is way over priced. My cat, I thought, had a UTI (urinary tract infection) and it cost me almost $500 to treat and diagnose, however their testing showed that she did not have it. They wanted me to bring my cat back for retesting..... for a UTI she never had. I declined as I thought it was foolish to waste any more money at this vet when I have a perfectly healthy cat.
