I have been bringing my chihuahua here for close to two years now. Even though I do not live in the area, I bring my dog here because I love the service. Dr. Golden is my favorite. She is very kind and returns my calls promptly. My chihuahua has seizures and it can be both stressful and scary caring for her , but Dr. Golden is there to answer my questions and give me the reassurance I need. All of the staff is very friendly and welcoming. If that’s not enough to convince you to use their services they also have the cutest cat that hangs around the office. Read Less

Switching vets can be stressful - especially when you're switching from a VCA and you have to call back like 8 times before they actually fax your records over - but I have no regrets! The docs here are great (we usually see Baher), the rooms are quiet and clean and the lobby is spa-like compared to the VCA we used to go. Everyone is super diligent about follow-up calls and appointment check-ins, but I'd recommend avoiding a Friday appointment if you can - they seem to get swamped Friday afternoon and you can be waiting for a while. Tripod lobby cat is a bonus. Read Less

Haven't been there too many times, but they have been accomodating when my cat was sick. They get 2 stars for that. I would say they are probably okay for regular health maintenance, but if your pet is sick, acutely ill, avoid this clinic. My kitty was seen emergently when she got sick. She did not receive the care she needed. Sent home with pain shot. No full blood workup, no fluids, no recommendation for a higher level of care. No diagnosis. They didn't assess my s...weet girl in my husbands presence. Unfortunately, I couldn't be there. He has never had to take the cats to the vet, so he was unfamiliiar with the routine. I certainly would not have allowed that. I was on speaker phone and assumed the vet was assessing her as we spoke. I relayed my concerns, and we all know that no one knows their pets better than their owners. My girl went from limping one evening to dragging her hind legs the following morning, was lethargic, and wouldn't eat. Does this not sound like a sick cat? I would expect a professional to recognize and identify a seriously ill animal. My sweet girl died 20 hours later at home. The vet (Williams) spoke of pain meds and gabapentin for arthritis. She did speak of further testing to rule out other disease proesses. Yeah, an ultrasound scheduled 6 days later. My girl should have had renal and liver function tests, as well as a blood count to rule out infection. How about some fluids???? Bottom line- if your pet is sick, take them somewhere else. I have taken my pets (cats and dogs) here for everything from annual check ups to sadly having to say good bye to pets that needed help crossing the rainbow bridge. Every time I have entered this office, regardless of who I was speaking to, everyone has been courteous, thoughtful and helpful. I cannot say enough good things about the front desk, vet techs and vets. You can tell everyone cares about the pets and their job. Good for day-to-day care or routine procedures. Not good/inexperienced for advanced/serious issues. This is hard to write, because it surfaces many painful memories. I will say this: when things are going well/healthy with your pet, it's easy to give clinics 4-5 stars. I would have done so with this clinic, when our pet was healthy. But when the going gets tough, that's when you really see the heart and soul of every business and person. And sometimes, it's lacking. The place is very polite and nice at first, but as you become a regular patient over the years, you see what the clinic is really like. At least one of the receptionists is very unpleasant and difficult. She's particularly grumpy and seems unhappy to work. It makes an already stressful situation more stressful. The receptionists nickle-and-dime you for everything, even things they were told not to. We brought our pets here, and one underwent frequent, extensive, and expensive care. Every time we visited, the bills would be at least 150. We were good customers/pet parents and often paid in cash. We didn't think anything was wrong with their price points--but we did think there was something wrong with the receptionists charging for 3-4 syringes to feed with (around .10 cents each), when the vet said we would not be charged multiple times. The vet wanted us to have these, to help our pet. But the receptionist's contrary behavior gave us the feeling that since it seemed like we could easily pay, that she charged for everything she could--even things the vet said not to. It made us really sad, because the clinic made the experiences feel like complete transactions without any compassion. We aren't just paying for everything because we can--we're doing it because we love our pets, and we want to help them in any way we can. We want our clinics to love our pets and really care for them, when they're not doing well. I will say that the clinic owner is professional and helpful, but the issue is you don't get to see him frequently. We've made appointments with him and had multiple canceled or put with someone else, because something else came up for him. Specifically, the receptionist usually said "something else more pressing." Very disheartening, when our own little pet child was very sick, too. When our pet passed away, this clinic wasn't there for us. No one made themselves available to check one last time, do a necropsy, and no one ever called us to check in afterwards... which was hurtful, since this was the regular place of care, and we came so many times. In the end, we just felt like a number and that once our pet was gone, they didn't care anymore, because we would no longer be paying all these bills. We stopped coming here after this. It felt like a complete business and not a compassionate place that loves animals and remembers their patients.  They are there with you in the good/easy times but not the bad. It was hard writing this because it surfaces bad memories, and also we did like the owner... but he was just too busy most of the time and other "more pressing things" always came up. I felt other Yelpers should know this. I don't want others to go through the additional pain we did, on top of our pet suffering. Read Less

We moved to the area a few years ago and had been driving an hour to go to our previous vet (we liked them and were hesitant to switch). A friend of ours recommended Forest Glen Animal Hospital (he has been taking his dogs here for years) and we decided to give it a try. Our dog is pretty challenging at the vet, but she has been here twice (once to get an allergy checked out and once for an annual exam), and we've had really great experiences both times. They recognized that my dog was anxious right away, and just went really slowly with her, gave her pets and treats, and were really patient. I felt that it was the most thorough exam that my dog has had in a while because they were able to keep her calm throughout the appointment. I'm excited to keep taking my pup here and would highly recommend it! Read Less

Honestly the first time I came here they where fine, but as the appointments started being regular they have shown true colors. Its hard to get a appointment with them and once was late 10min and i got yelled at by the receptionist saying the vet had things to do and a place to be at... Sheesh ! I mean your working right?? As for cleaniness... I give them a 4 out of 10. This place is good for first time shots, but when it comes to curing (instead of treating) they are not good. Regular check up plus charge with blood test mount to $350 quick, I ended paying close to $400 for a small healthy dog that just came in for a checkup. It upsets me how they fail to inform clients that YOU CAN GET PET INSURANCE, even though you still have to pay upfront (serously unhumane and inconvienient of this industry) it compensate a good amount back. BEWARE OF UPSELLING FOR YOUR SENIOR DOGS!!! I have healthy dog just 13years doing great but what these vets seems to love doing is up selling medication that really doesn't makes sense giving to your dog when side effects are far beyond worse than the problem its trying to cure (specifically "treat"). Treating feeds their pockets but curing doesn't, so they won't give out a cure, but a treatment that brings tremendous health problems that suck dry your bank account and leaves with a immense heartache so careful. If your read into health for dogs then You will see what your truley getting for what your paying, and I for one hate being cheated out or scamed out of my money. Long story short small problem can't be fixed and I mentioned things they didn't even considered.. Pluse everything small always seems to be some rare problem to them they are unknowledgable about. Right I guess there schooling didn't do much for them. PS. Don't buy the bs show they give when they first get to touch your dog as if they are truley checking there bodies and health, all for show. Husband and I took our two newly adopted cats in for a new-patient check up and to get their rabies booster vaccine. We walked in a minute before our appointment time and were greeted (well the cats were) by name. They took us straight to an exam room (not like human doctors where you wait 10 minutes past your appointment time). After about 5 minutes the vet came in. Husband and I agreed after leaving that we definitely liked her. Dr Golden took her time, answered all our questions, and asked about the cats' set up at our place. Playtime, cat trees, food, litter, dental hygiene, all covered, definitely getting a benchmark for future reference. She also administered their vaccines and gave them each a treat after their turn. Price was pretty good. I feel we're getting our monies worth. Not much more to say about that. The receptionist actually brought everything into the exam room and took our payment out to the front desk then came back with the receipt for us to review and sign since there were several large dogs in the waiting room then and they didn't want to stress out the cats. Such thoughtfulness!Dr Golden also explained what additional treatments would be needed if we ever changed up the household (adding a dog means flea prevention) and also what preventions would be needed if they ever become indoor/outdoor cats. I've read some reviews about places that make you feel like evil incarnate if you even mention cats going outdoors, not the case here! Also free street parking right outside. Added bonus when you're carrying carriers with wiggly cats who want out. Read Less

I can't say enough good things about this place. We have been bringing our cat and dog here for 5 years since we moved into the area and I am so glad that we found this place. Before then, we'd take our cat to VCA and I was never happy with the service I received there. I always felt rushed and our concerns brushed aside. There was no feeling of genuine concern. One particular frustrating episode where the vet diagnosed my 5 year old cat with feline asthma when I had informed him we had just brought a new cat into the house who had an URI was the last straw and led us to FGAH. Dr. Orals took his time examining and listening to us and agreed it would be best to treat for a URI. What a relief. Someone who listened to us. The treatment worked and my cat was back to his normal naughty self. Dr. Orals and Dr. Golden both really take their time and are very through in examining your pet. They review their history and ask you questions and listen to your answers. I truly feel as if they treat and handle my pets like they were their own and I know they are in the best of care every time I bring them in. Each and every one of the staff are always very friendly and accommodating. We had a scary episode with our dog where he had started to grow what looked like a tumor on his eyeball. This was very rare and Dr. Golden went to great lengths to examine medical books to try and learn more information about what this was and the proper way to treat it. She referred us to an eye specialist who was amazing in removing the tumor and Dr. Golden never fails to examine the eye during each annual exam to ensure it is not growing back. I would highly recommend this place even if you do not live in the area. The care both you and your pet will receive here is well worth the trip. Read Less

Living in Chicago, animals seem to find you, and when they do, you need to find a vet. Thank goodness we found the awesome Dr. Julia Baehr, Jodi and the staff at Forest Glen Animal Hospital. I called in a bit of a panic and talked to Katie, a very patient receptionist, who spent a lot of time with me trying to find out if they could even treat a terrified, semi-feral cat who needed pretty immediate care for a swollen dental abscess.  She spoke with Dr. Baehr to explain that this was no ordinary timid, house cat, and asked the doctor if she'd be willing to try and see her.  We were thrilled the doctor said yes.  Dr. Baehr and Jodi--the Lead Tech--didn't flinch one bit as our big cat hissed at them, they truly wanted to help get her out of pain and on the road to recovery. I was so grateful when Dr. Baehr said she had a plan to help her, and a plan after that, even if the cat was going to be difficult to handle. Luckily, these two cat whisperers (and animal rescuers in their own lives) were so good at calming and treating cats, it all went smoothly. Dr. Baehr was able to operate on our cat, and it was a huge success. She even followed up by letting me send in photos of our cat's reduced swelling by email so I wouldn't have to try and crate the cat again. Without Dr. Baehr (and Jodi and Katie), I don't know what I would have done. You can tell they are true animal lovers. This is top-line care at very reasonable prices. I can't recommend this place enough. Read Less

Feeling like the worst cat mom of the year, I had to run Spock (my cat) in for immediate care because I accidentally slammed his tail in the door in a rush to leave for work. Spock is my cat child and I felt like a failure. I was so sad, but Dr. Golden was amazing! The entire staff was. Spock is not the best looking cat to most cat owners used to looking at shelter rescues. Spock is a Cornish Rex, and he's a fatty at 14 lbs. It didn't matter to the staff, they kept saying he was a good-looking cat, and for those who remembered he was a male, commented on how handsome he is. Honestly, it only made my heart break because of what happened. Spock's care wasn't cheap, and the Vet tech told me about Care Credit, which I didn't know you could use for pets! I'm like, "What? My Optometrist's office takes that!" I signed up with my smart phone right away and I now have 6 months to pay off his hefty bill. That's gonna get me through the holidays! A small 4% service charge from the vet is included for using the card at their office. I was all too happy to pay for it. Small price for feeling like such a jerk myself. Did I happen to mention how amazing everyone is here? Especially with their newly remodeled office, the service remains old-school where every pet parent feels respected; and every pet is special and unique.  Spock's stitches were done same day and I was able to have him home and resting as comfortably as possible in less than 12 hours. When I picked him up, I was given care instructions, which almost went through one ear and out the other due to my stress. The tech smiled and seemed to know, and had a printout of everything we went over for me to take home. Spock's stitches look great and aside from dealing with the Victorian collar, his behavior is about the same for a kitty that I know still feels the wound. Really, I trust this office with my baby, and you should not have any worries bringing your pet here. They're gonna take care of your best friend for you. Read Less

My first and only visit to Forest Glen was during an emergency. My best doggy friend of 14 years, Yogi, was having major diabetes complications. I unfortunately had to put him to sleep. I was heartbroken because I had no idea I'd be losing my angel that day. Throughout our entire ordeal,  the vet was supportive and compassionate. She outlined my options and allowed me to make the decision myself. Once the decision was made, she waited until I was ready and gave me time to say goodbye. I am forever grateful for the Forest Glen Animal Hospital staff. Deciding to put Yogi to sleep was the hardest decision of my life and the worst thing that has ever happened to me. The entire staff at Forest Glen Animal Hospital is a gift to pet owners in this community. I was incredibly grateful for the care they provided my sweet cat, Stitch, on his last day with us, not to mention the grace with which they spoke to my husband and I on the worst day of our lives. We had never dealt with something so devastating, but the incredible sensitivity of everyone we interacted with made the experience as bearable as it could be. It can be difficult to find other people who truly understand and value the deep and unparalleled love between a pet and their person, but we really felt we found it at Forest Glen AH. We can't thank them enough for guiding us through our grief with such tenderness and warmth.

Read Less

Read Less

I have been to a few vets in the Chicago area and Forest Glen has been the most consistent and caring clinic yet. All of the vets at this hospital have worked with my puppy and they are all professional and actually listen to your wishes and concerns. After every visit I have received a courtesy call a couple days later to make sure my dog was still doing okay. Prices are a little high in comparison to other vets, but its worth it for the great service. Read Less

Two weeks ago we had to make the very difficult decision to let our sweet Kuro cross the rainbow bridge. I can't tell you how much we appreciated the excellent care we received by everyone at Forest Glen Animal Hospital.... We did not have an appointment, we did not call ahead of time.... We walked in everyone accommodated the situation. We were so extremely touched. Yesterday, my husband brought Kuro home.... Again, we were so extremely touched by the staff and the items we received with his ashes. The clay pay print was such a surprise that really meant the world to us. Today the mail came. There was the most beautiful sympathy card with various hand written notes from the staff at Forest Glen. Additionally, the paw print images and heart cut out that was on Kuros paw was enclosed. What a beautiful gift! There are no words to express our gratitude for the exceptional staff at Forest Glen! You all made this very hard situation a tiny bit easier and your compassion and care really touched our hearts! We can't thank you enough!! Blair and David WilliamsRead Less
