Ten years ago, I was just a single girl living in Chicago when my condo was broken into in the middle of the night. When the police arrived, I inquired about a home security system and they laughed and told me what i needed was a dog....not a little yappy dog, but a DOG. Knowing that my condo association was gearing up to vote on a weight restriction on pets, I set out to find my new home security system and settled on the cutest boxer puppy in the whole world. Jewell Animal Hospital was within walking distance and at our first appointment, the door opened, Dr. Jewell paid no attention to me, looked at my dog and before I knew it he was on the ground letting my puppy kiss him in the face. I knew right then and there he was the vet for us- he was an animal person. For ten years we took my sweet boy to see Dr. Jewell and surprisingly my dog always LOVED going to the vet because he was treated like a king by every single person in the entire office. After getting married, I moved out of the city, an hour away into the burbs and we cheated on Dr. Jewell once at a local vet- We didn't even finish the appointment with the suburban vet before I packed it up and told my husband it wasn't worth the convenient drive- we were taking the dog back to Dr. Jewell and that was that. For five years we drove over an hour for well and sick visits with Dr. Jewel, trusted him to remove cancerous tumors, consulted with him and relied on his recommendation when our dog broke his leg, and over years looked to him to keep my best boy safe and healthy, and he did that and more.Dr. Jewell is a one of a kind individual. When my dog was diagnosed with mast cell tumors, through tears I asked what we were going to do, he passionately and confidently told me on two occasions he was going to remove it- and he did. When my dog broke his leg and we had to take him to the emergency vet in the burbs, before anyone could touch him surgically, I needed to call Dr. Jewell who took my call immediately and referred me to a friend of his. In my book Dr. Jewell is the best vet ever, but this surgeon was a close second both clinically and professionally. At the discovery of the third mast cell tumor at age 10, Dr. Jewell was realistic with me and suggested that we consult with a specialist to help us (him included!) develop the best plan for my sweet pup. We recently had to put him to sleep, and my heart broke having to call Dr. Jewell to break the news to him and he took the time to chat with me in my time of grief. To my surprise we received a hand written card from him and his office staff days later.I cannot recommend him enough- he's worth every penny and is not only the best vet I've ever met, but he's the best individual with the best heart I've ever met in my life either.
