We live in the neighborhood so when we got our pups Jewell animal hospital was the most convenient but as we called and came in, it wasn’t just the convenience that kept us coming back. The receptionists and vet techs are so friendly and extremely knowledgeable- they give us comfort and advice every time we’ve been in. They even suggested we stop in on our walks to give the dogs treats and say hi so the pups have a positive association with the vet. We have never waited for an excessive amount of time. And while I’ve waited I’ve observed thier calm caring demeanor with all the patients and the friendly banter between all the staff. The doctors are phenomenal as well. They are so honest and caring. We’ve bumped into Dr. O’Conner on the street at least a month after our appointment and she made a special point to walk our way and ask us about things we’ve talked about during our past appointments. Dr. Jewell encouraged us to get our new puppy socialized when we first got him and everytime he sees our pup he picks him up and takes him out of his comfort zone just to get him accustomed to new people. They are honest about what we need to do and a timeline of when we need to do it. Like “wait a day and see if her symptoms subside before coming in- this is normal, or let’s start with a blood test and some vitamins that you should buy from amazon/pet store and well test again before we need to try anything more intrusive.” When I told them we were going to get our dogs spayed and neutered elsewhere because we wanted to do a laser surgery instead of traditional they encouraged it because of the benefits of laser, noting they hoped to get the laser soon. To summarize they are friendly, professional, honest and overall the best experience I’ve had at a vet. I’d recommend to anyone. Read Less

I have been taking my cats to Jewell Animal Hospital since it opened. Dr. Jewell has always gone above and beyond the call of duty when trying to get to the bottom of what have proven to be some very complicated maladies over the years. The staff are always professional, friendly and courteous, even when dealing with upset hissing kitties. Charges are reasonable and the waiting rooms are bright, cheery and clean. Sadly over the years, I have also had to use the 'green room' several times when faced with the unenviable task of saying goodbye to a beloved pet, their sympathy and understanding made an unbearable experience bearable. During oir 10 Yrld puggle’s yearly physical Dr. O’Conner noticed his playlet count extremely low (2,000) normal is around (250,000). She immediately did everything in her powers to get Dex on the road to recovery. I am happy to say that after 2 and a half months of being on heavy doses of prednisone and some other meds that he has greatly improved his counts to normal and his medications are almost done. Had our first visit to Jewell today after relocating to the neighborhood and I was very impressed! First off, the place is great - our exam room even had a couch! More importantly, Dr. O'Connor and all of the staff were fantastic with my nervous dog. He is 2 years old, 75lbs and TERRIFIED of strangers - small girls and big men alike - so the vet is always torture for both of us. They treated him wonderfully and were very patient and loving with him. It's hard having a fearful dog, but everyone at Jewell made the vet a great experience! Read Less

So this is way overdue, but I used to live right opposite this vet. One day, our 18 year old cat had a stroke and we rushed him downstairs and across the street to them. I ran in saying my cat had a stroke and please what could they do to save him, and they said to please wait until they were available. I repeated it was an emergency and they said sorry all the appointments are taken. I asked if some vet could take a look at him or tell me what to do and they said sorry they didn't know. They didn't seem to care, or look at him, or express care or empathy. I took off and had to grab a taxi to an emergency facility. Poor service, disappointing attitude. Ten years ago, I was just a single girl living in Chicago when my condo was broken into in the middle of the night.  When the police arrived, I inquired about a home security system and they laughed and told me what i needed was a dog....not a little yappy dog, but a DOG.  Knowing that my condo association was gearing up to vote on a weight restriction on pets, I set out to find my new home security system and settled on the cutest boxer puppy in the whole world.  Jewell Animal Hospital was within walking distance and at our first appointment, the door opened, Dr. Jewell paid no attention to me, looked at my dog and before I knew it he was on the ground letting my puppy kiss him in the face.  I knew right then and there he was the vet for us- he was an animal person.  For ten years we took my sweet boy to see Dr. Jewell and surprisingly my dog always LOVED going to the vet because he was treated like a king by every single person in the entire office. After getting married, I moved out of the city, an hour away into the burbs and we cheated on Dr. Jewell once at a local vet- We didn't even finish the appointment with the suburban vet before I packed it up and told my husband it wasn't worth the convenient drive- we were taking the dog back to Dr. Jewell and that was that.  For five years we drove over an hour for well and sick visits with Dr. Jewel, trusted him to remove cancerous tumors, consulted with him and relied on his recommendation when our dog broke his leg, and over years looked to him to keep my best boy safe and healthy, and he did that and more.Dr. Jewell is a one of a kind individual.  When my dog was diagnosed with mast cell tumors, through tears I asked what we were going to do, he passionately and confidently told me on two occasions he was going to remove it- and he did.  When my dog broke his leg and we had to take him to the emergency vet in the burbs, before anyone could touch him surgically, I needed to call Dr. Jewell who took my call immediately and referred me to a friend of his.  In my book Dr. Jewell is the best vet ever, but this surgeon was a close second both clinically and professionally.  At the discovery of the third mast cell tumor at age 10, Dr. Jewell was realistic with me and suggested that we consult with a specialist to help us (him included!) develop the best plan for my sweet pup.  We recently had to put him to sleep, and my heart broke having to call Dr. Jewell to break the news to him and he took the time to chat with me in my time of grief.  To my surprise we received a hand written card from him and his office staff days later.I cannot recommend him enough- he's worth every penny and is not only the best vet I've ever met, but he's the best individual with the best heart I've ever met in my life either. I've taken several of my pets to Jewell over the years and have always been very happy with them! Almost 10 years ago, my orange tabby had a (typical) blockage in his bladder. This was new to me and I was a mess. I had to take Frank in to the ER vet, and followed up with Jewell the next day where they continued treatment and carried out the procedure to make my little buddy all better. In that circumstance, I did not have a whole lot of options as far as what I would pay; it was better than having a surgery done at the ER vet. Dr. Jewel was extremely doting on Franklin and the entire stuff took the best care of him.I moved away for several years but recently came back. Franklin is no longer with me, but I now have my munchkin cat, Buster. I adopted a 3 month old kitten, Mae, and Buster (bless his sensitive little soul) has been stressed OUT. No food, no water, no meowing, no eye contact...I took him to Jewell after not seeing them for many years and they were great yet again! This time I saw Dr. Ennis and she has equally sensitive bedside manner. We talked about all my options, what is causing the stress and how to go about handling it moving forward. They did not force me to do a blood panel, but rather presented me with pricing options for everything - each decision was on my own terms. They hydrated him, gave him some appetite stimulants and kitty pepto. A few days later, he lost his meow. I called to make sure this wasn't something to be alarmed by. The desk staff has been extremely helpful in getting my message to Dr. Ennis and following up with me. I've always thought it takes a truly special kind of person to treat sick animals and keep themselves together. The staff at Jewell does that 100 percent! Read Less

Dr. Czekala spent a decent amount of time with me discussing incidence rates, risk profiles, and treatment options/plans. I left feeling much more informed, and am comforted to know that my cat is in very good hands. They also seemed to notice my zombie-like demeanor upon arrival, and kindly offered me coffee while I waited. Don't go here unless you like to throw money away. My cat needed dental surgery and Dr. Jewell suggested all his teeth needed to be removed for $2000 due to a hereditary disease. I got a second opinion after this huge price and I am so glad I did. It turned out that only about half of my cat's teeth needed to be removed just because they were rotten. It had nothing to do with some disease. The doctor I used showed me scans from cats with that disease and my cat, even I could see the difference. I am horrified that my cat could have lost all of his teeth for no reason. It seems this hospital is much more interested in taking my money. They also heavily encouraged me to get vaccines that I didn't want to get for my indoor cat. Read Less

I have to say I'm extremely grateful for the awesome staff at Jewell Animal Hospital. Our pup Marla was having a lot of trouble and getting sick regularly from November through most of January. Unfortunately the vet we were bringing her to had no answers and treated the problem symptomatically case by case when we were pretty sure the instances were related. They subjected the dog to multiple blood tests, shots for anti-nasea meds and then diagnosed her with pancreatitis. The tests for pancreatitis came back negative but they had us switch her food anyway and we only saw her get worse. Vomitting every four days, her energy decreased, she would wake up middle of night gagging and coughing, her appetite declined and her stomach made awful noises every few days. Something was obviously wrong. Through this all my girlfriend and I kept saying "could it be a grain sensitivity?" and they repeatedly dismissed it as unlikely and moved forward without a real plan. The last straw was us having to subject her (and my wallet) to an expensive ultrasound which also came back totally clear. After we got the ultrasound result we brought up the grain free thing one last time. The vet didn't call us back like they said he would and we made the decision to switch vets. Since taking Marla to Jewell we've seen a complete turn around. They listened to us and we formulated a plan together. She's gone on a grain free exclusion diet and not been sick once, her energy level has been so high it's almost been too much for us to handle! Also Jewell's staff has repeatedly called to check in, offered additional advice and answered a billion questions to help keep us on the right path. It's been an amazing feeling to have our dog back to a happy and healthy state. I could not be more grateful and I cannot recommend them highly enough.Read Less

I am so happy I was referred to Jewell Animal Hospital. Having my dog Moose (9 year old golden) be misdiagnosed at another vet office - I turned to Dr. Jewell and Dr. Chesnut for answers.... unfortunately for us it wasn't what we wanted ro hear - "our dog had Lymphoma Cancer". Dr. Chesnut had such a warm spirit and grace letting us know what was happening as well as the real aspects moving forward (including real timelines 45 - 60 days max) of what we could expect with the history of this cancer and the way it progresses. We chose to go with chemotherapy since the response is typically good - the cancer won't go away - but remission may be possible. 90 days later.. he is doing great today. The warm love Moose is given.. not only by the doctors but by all the reception staff and support staff and techs (I won't mention any names just so I dont miss any) I couldn't be any happier with the treatment and care not only that Moose receives but how we feel when we walk in the door. This vet clinic is awesome. We have been taking our two dogs there for over 5 years. He has improved so much that he was outside tonight with me chasing his tennis ball in the snow; a favorite pastime of his. I can’t thank everyone there enough for saving Dex... Read Less

Read Less

This was my first visit, and I was delighted by how genuine and knowledgeable their whole team was. I appreciated their willingness to let me pick their brains on questions and concerns I had about my fluff ball. The check-up was thorough and very professional. Great experience all around. 👍 Read Less

I truly feel thankful to this team and would absolutely recommend them for pet care.Read Less
