I have been meaning to write this review of MDVC for a long time and am finally getting around to it. I can't say enough good things about the staff and the care we've received here. We have 3 senior cats and 2 young dogs - all are patients at MDVC. We've been going here for 7 years and have made use of their services for wellness exams, dental cleaning, and behavioral assistance, as well as a few emergency visits. The staff are so caring and so supportive and our animals always receive exceptional care. To provide a few examples: - our 17 year old female cat is terminally grouchy and has also had a very hard time grooming the last year or so. At her last appointment this year, Dr. Sullivan was so patient and kind. He helped us come up with a solution for the fur mats that she keeps forming and took his time with the exam so that she didn't get stressed out.  - our youngest dog (3 years old) is very shy and nervous in new situations. Dr. Grossman and Candice both spent so much time with us during our wellness exam to make sure that my dog was comfortable and at ease. They were both willing to sit on the floor and play silly games with my dog before and during the exam. - finally - we have a 4 year old dog that is incredibly shy and reactive. MDVC has played an instrumental role in helping us work through some of his issues. We worked with Dr. Ballantyne to develop some strategies for success  - this meeting several years ago gave me the confidence to start working with my dog to help him overcome some of his fears. For the last 1-2 years, I have also been taking my dog for regular "happy visits".  We just stop in every week to say "hi" to the staff and they pet my dog, give him cookies, let him sniff around and then we head home.  These visits have become so important to us and have really helped us! In fact, my dog now knows the words "happy visit" and "sheila" (because sheila at the front desk is now one of his favorite people in the entire world). I can't believe the transformation that's taken place over the last few years.  We were just in for a happy visit this morning and my dog was sitting politely, taking treats from Sheila and Christian with his back to the front door -  he would never have done this last year! he would have had his eye on the door the entire time.  This is a dog who is fearful around unfamiliar men, too - yet he is able to approach and interact positively with Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Grossman, and now with Christian (a new staff member).  The techs are also so fantastic.  Candice, Crystal, and Kelsey, in particular, have all taken time to help us work on getting familiar with people holding his paws, staying on the scale, and so many other things.  This is a really long review but we've just had so many great experiences there. The prices are reasonable and, more importantly, I always feel that the staff have the emotional and physical well-being of my pet at the top of their priorities. Over the last few years they really have started to feel more like family to us than just a vet office. Read Less

We first visited this place in an emergency in 2015 December with our 3 1/2 yr-old Beagle, Shadow. What appealed to us most was that the doctors or technicians did not try to put us in a state of panic. Nor did they try to take advantage of our helplessness & squeeze money out of us. They gave us possible options from which we made a choice. Very professional, helpful & cooperative staff. The only regret is the closing down of the Emergency unit. We have been visiting ever since. No complaints till date. Three cheers for the vets & the staff!!! Read Less

My dog and I recently started going to MDVC at UIC one day on a whim after a neighbor of ours informed me about the clinic at our local dog park.  We were previously going to a clinic in the West Loop and felt that the service had dramatically changed - for the worse.  We've been going to this particular clinic since they first opened and the decision to leave wasn't an easy one.  However, the Medical District Clinic quickly alleviated my concerns and trepidation with their high level of service, attentiveness, compassion, and empathy for my pet and his condition. Dr. Sullivan always spends a lot of time with us compared to other clinics that rush you in and out - like a waitress trying to flip her table for the next restaurant patron.  The follow-up call that I received the day after our appointment was a breath of fresh air.  Having taken my dogs over the years to some of the best veterinary clinics in the country, I can honestly say that you will be hard pressed to find a better clinic in the midwest than the MDVC. I dont usually have time to do reviews. But for new pet owners that have never had a pet this is a great place to keep. Our 1st visit was when my dog was four months and everyone at the clinic was caring and attentive. The ENTIRE staff was awesome. They didn't rush us and they came in to check on us frequently. They even sent us a card a couple weeks later. It was so nice. Considering I've never been to any other Veterinary Clinic in my opinion I'd give this place a 4 for this time around. Incorporating all that my pup went through due to fleas.. over the phone I was told I'd receive a chewy to kill any lasting fleas the advantix probably did not kill off... which I was so happy to hear that she would be able to consume. Though when I arrived I did not receive the chewy instead pills for something else. I was content with that resolution but the fleas I was still worried about. I have two other dogs and they are protected now by advantix but I'm still worried if she still has a few lingering around that the other two will catch them. Long story short I'm a bit disappointed I did not receive the chewies. The Vet, Dr.Sullivan & their technicians are extremely nice and understand but just wish I would have gotten those chewies like I said. As for pricing, they're reasonable for any newbies reading this. One last thing to point out... this was a squeezed in appointment and I do want to acknowledge the fact that they were ultra fast in getting me into a room and giving me their time to see my baby on such short notice. Thank you guys! Read Less

If your dog hates going to the vet, this is the clinic for you! I took my dog to the vet thinking she had some kind of intestinal blockage or obstruction. The moment she realized where she was, she became anxious/fearful and started barking at Dr. Grossman with all the energy her little, 11 lb. self could muster.  Instead of rushing through the appointment, however, Dr. Grossman put on a hoodie to cover his scrubs, sat on the floor, and patiently waited for my dog to calm down and approach him.  When my little, diva dog decided to sniff him out, she was rewarded with belly rubs and ear scratches - not knowing that Dr. Grossman was examining her all along. Everyone at Med. District Vet. Clinic at Illinois is super patient, courteous, helpful, and truly amazing. There's a parking lot, and the front office staff is really accommodating when scheduling appointments. The only drawback to this place is the length of its name lol. Read Less

I wanted to share that this is the best vet clinic I've been to yet.  1) My 85 year old aunt's 10 year old fur son Precioso was diagnosed with kidney failure as many older kitties are. The way Dr. Grossman and his students provided the dire diagnosis was done in a perfect balance of directness and compassion. The next step was to make the decision of when to put the Precioso to sleep.  My aunt wasn't ready so we took him home. 2) The staff called every couple of days to see how Precioso was doing. It gave my aunt an opportunity to share this sad experience. The following Monday we took him to be put to sleep. Again we experienced the most amazing demonstration of compassion. Dr. G explained step by step what was going to happen and how it would happen. He made sure that my aunt didn't feel any sense of guilt for letting him go. He gave my aunt as much time as she wanted to say goodbye and the option to stay during the process or leave. My aunt decided to leave and then go back in after the fact. Again they gave us as much time as we needed. 3) I was so pleased with the experience, as sad as it was, that I decided to bring our new puppy here. I will come back to update my review with that story and comments on costs. Just know they were very good experiences. More to come. Read Less

After having an allergic reaction to some vaccinations, my cat was vomiting and experiencing some diarrhea. She looked so sick, I just knew something was wrong. The vets, techs, and staff here are all so amazing and compassionate. I brought my 3-month old kitten, Tom Petty, to their Emergency Room over Labor Day weekend. I'd rescued him from a shelter the weekend before, but that day he'd been lethargic and was running a fever. His outcome looked grim when we first arrived and he stayed in their care for two nights, eventually making a great recovery. After the care we received at the regency services, I decided to make Medical District Veterinary our primary vet. Dr Grossman has been incredible (Tom Petty suffers from some other issues so we've been in a few times since) along with all of the staff. They always make us feel welcome and cared for and the visits are low stress. Tom Petty doesn't even realize he's being examined most of the time. They even went so far as to sing him a couple Tom Petty songs when they took him back to draw some blood and take his temp. That warmed my heart. We're very glad---and lucky---to have found this place. :)Read Less

When we went to get our puppy neutered the doctor explain to us everything we needed to know to help our puppy heal. Our dog at first was scared but both Dr's at the clinic are really amazing at providing us with valuable information as well as treating our dog with patience. I highly recommend this place and their prices are not even expensive as far as other places. Whoever wants good customer service and good prices and good doctors this is the place to come to. We love this place. We have taken all of our animals there since we have moved into the area. The staff and docs are great. One of the Drs sits on the floor with the animals and plays and does his exam. Unfortunately we have had to put two animals down. 1 cat who went through 3 months of chemo and treatment and 1 kitten. The ENTIRE staff was awesome. They didn't rush us and they came in to check on us frequently. They even sent us a card a couple weeks later. It was so nice. Price I would say is med to high medium range but it is well worth it in the end. We have 2 cats and a dog. They are MY BABIES!!!! I only want the best for them!! And here I feel like I get it!!! Read Less

Our first experience with MDVC was wonderful. Our cat, Teddy, fell ill over the weekend and Veronica was kind enough to get us in for a Monday morning appointment. Dr. Grossman was kind, knowledgable, and extremely helpful: the best vet we've ever had! Prices were reasonable and the examination room was clean, with toys and catnip. The staff is exceptional.

She could not sit still, she was very uncomfortable and hiding in random places of the house, such as my closet in a shaded corner. I decided to call the Medical District Vet and it was recommended that I bring her in. Despite being a late Sunday night, the staff was great and very attentive. This place was my savior. She did not even know she was being examined because the staff was so gentle and compassionate. After receiving some medication, we went back home and she was able to sleep comfortably. :)Read Less
