I was the proud owner of a wonderful 8.5 yr old yellow lab named Gunner. Around a month ago Gunner had a sore on his back foot pad that wouldn't heal. I took him into RVAH for evaluation and the Vet prescribed a general antibiotic. During that visit she mentioned that a fungal infection was possible given our recent visit to a farm, but didn't see any presence of and didn't mention anything about this thereafter. One week later I took him in again as the foot still wouldn...'t heal and a few additional sores started to appear on his face along with other symptoms such as swollen legs and lymph nodes. Once again they evaluated him, ran some tests (for Lyme disease for example) and sent out a culture of the foot and sent me on my way. A few days later they called me and told me a bacteria was found and to order another antibiotic online, which I immediately did. 7-8 days later my dog remained lethargic and started to struggle with his breathing. We took him to MedVet next door and within an hour they took a Chest Xray and showed me he had a massive fungal infection (Blastomycrosis) that had spread to his lungs. 24 hours later he passed away. After doing some additional research on this terrible fungal disease my wife/I have realized that many of the warning signs for Blasto were present in Gunner, especially at that second visit....yet at no point in time did the Vet request we test for this (simple urine test), point to this as a real possibility of his illness, or explain our dog's life was in danger. Gunner was part of our family and we miss him terribly. I don't know if a diagnosis a few weeks earlier could've saved his life, but it certainly couldn't have hurt. Top notch service and peanut butter! We take our dog here for wellness visits​, in between visits when she eats things she's not supposed to, and most recently a tumor removal. The whole process was simple: drop off, updates throughout the procedure, and pickup. Dr. Gonzalez is our primary veterinarian who also performed the removal procedure. She is highly knowledgeable​, professional, and friendly. Our dog loves her and all the vet techs. They have an have endless supply of doggie talk, caresses, and peanut butter to keep our dog at ease during visits. I highly recommend. There is a parking lot across the street that is pay to park some days and limited street parking. Read Less

We have been long time clients of RVAH, but it's time to move on. They are so hung up on collecting their fees for visits and tests, they've completely forgotten about customer service. They are inflexible despite the needs of dog parents and their fur babies. Life is too busy to have to deal with a vet clinic that won't work with you.Update: I'm so happy to report this matter was escalated to the practice manager and Dr. Rovner. I found Dr. Rovner thru Aarooo Basset Hound Rescue in Barrington when my 10 year old basset girl was unable to use her rear legs due to disc issue in her back. We came all the way from Elgin every week for treatment for 4 months straight and today Stella is walking! A bit wobbly but WALKING!! No $5000 surgery, just patience, some water treadmill therapy and acupuncture thrown in. The care we have rec'd from Dr. Rovner and his staff has been phenomenal, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! Our dog almost died due to RVAH misdiagnosis. We went to RVAH twice in the course of the week, an by the weekend had to bring dog to emergency clinic were she was operated on 3 hours later. The surgeon told us our dog symptoms and condition were veterinary101 and he was stunned she was misdiagnosed twice by 2 different RVAH vets. We were RVAH clients for 7 years but we are not going back after this tragic incident. If you are willing to pay expensive fees for basic routine checkups and risk your pet to be misdiagnosed in critical condition, RVAH is your hospital. Read Less

The staff has been amazing and kind after I put my cat to sleep. I've received two card from them in the past week and half. They were really kind and informative during the procedure. The staff are all very supportive and kind hearted. The building is very clean and neat. I'm very glad I have found this place and looking forward to switching this to my dogs primary animal care. I had the opportunity to visit this office over the weekend when my 19 year old cat died and my usual vet's office was closed. From start to finish, the staff could not have been more empathetic and professional. They were able to quickly accommodate me on a Sunday morning. When I was ushered back to the private room, they had dimmed the lights, had a candle light, a bottle of water and tissues. I wish I would have had met the people of this fine practice before now. If you have a need for a quality, caring vet practice, I would highly recommend these folks.
