I am new to the Cat Hospital, but the times I have brought my two cats there for care, they were well cared for and I was satisfied with the treatment and the professionalism of the vets and staff. There is free parking in their lot, and the location is easily accessible from nearby neighborhoods. They do a great job explaining the care given to your cats, and will follow up with phone calls and emails to ensure everything is progressing as it should and to give advice for further veterinary care either there or elsewhere if needed. I am thankful for finding a place that only serves cats, and I believe my two cats are in great hands at The Cat Hospital Of Chicago. Read Less

The best place to take your cat in Chicago, hands down. The entire staff is kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate. I really only have experience with Dr. Czerwonky, who is phenomenal, but I can guarantee you any other vets are just as incredible. They took care of my Mona after she had fallen very ill very quickly and when the illness had become too aggressive, the staff made the entire procedure to say goodbye meaningful and peaceful. Thank you, Cat Hospital. This place is the absolute best, don't waste your time looking for anywhere else to take your cat, I promise you will not be disappointed. Read Less

This is the nicest, cleanest, and friendliest vet I have ever been to. The pre-exam forms were very thorough and the doctor actually reviewed all of the information prior to examining my cat. The examination was detailed and both the doctor and the technician answered all of my many questions without rushing me. They even gave my cat treats for being a good boy. Several reviews made me worry that it might be expensive, but the examine fee and services were not much more than other vets around the area. And for the professionalism of all staff and the service you are getting it is worth it. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Read Less

Our cat had been having recurrent UTIs for years. We spent months and months and thousands of dollars at another vet with a great reputation trying to figure out how to help her. Finally I took her to cat hospital to get a second opinion. I called and explained my situation and they got me a same day appt. when I arrived I was blown away by the caring, empathetic staff (both clinical and front office) I honestly wanted to cry. Then Dr. Thompson did such a thorough exam and our cat who usually looks like she is in her own personal hell at the vet was so calm! Not happy exactly but not miserable. She diagnosed the issue quickly gave us a solid treatment plan and she has been UTI free for one year!!Seriously so thankful this place exists and can't recommend it highly enough! Wow!THE CASE:-12+ year old FIV+ cat with an iffy heart (HCM), possible localized cancer, and osteoarthritis. ~12 extractions/crown amputations performed.THE FACTS (PROS):-Dr. Czerwonky provided an *excellent* level of care. She was thorough, knowledgable and nice. Succinct but never made me feel she was giving me less than 100% of her attention when we spoke on the phone and in person. -Dr. Czerwonky immediately spotted a lesion on his nose and suspected it may be a localized form of cancer (Bowenoids). This went unnoticed/untreated by other vets in Chicago, despite me relating classic Bowenoids symptoms to other doctors in Chicagoland.-She called me several times to update the timeline of his surgery (since he's FIV+ he had to go last) which was delayed through no fault of her own (1st surgery of the day took ~3 hours longer than expected: as is the case with dental surgery the full extent of the disease is not completely known until the patient is put under and they're able to throughly examine the mouth). She also gave me updates of his tooth condition after the X-Rays, and an update when he was recovering from the procedure. -Kendra, the vet tech, was professional, friendly, patient, and very knowledgeable. Her handling of my cat was gentle and compassionate. -Kendra, Dr. Czerwonky and the reception team stayed late to perform my cat's dental, and although I could see that they had a longer day than usual they were nothing but nice, present, and took their time in explaining post-op care. I never felt rushed and though they stayed late, I felt that my cat's treatment was in no way compromised and they were consummate professionals. The reception staff even spoke with CareCredit on the phone while I went over discharge instructions when my card initially got declined to straighten things out. They never made me feel like this was a hassle and I really appreciated it.  -Dr. C and Kendra (apologies if there was an additional tech working with him that I haven't named, thank you!) kept a close eye on my cat who was a higher risk surgery because of his heart problems and age. They immediately spotted when he had episodes of low blood-pressure during his recovery and administered the appropriate (and potentially life-saving) medications necessary. When they relayed this information to me, both during a phone-call and during the post-op discharge discussion, it was clear that they took this seriously, acted swiftly, and with great expertise. The post-op recovery stage is a crucial and dangerous moment for monitoring, if my cat wasn't watched very closely during this period what started as a small problem could have easily deteriorated into a larger problem and he could have coded. This is sometimes the case at other hospitals where there are issues with understaffing, lack of expertise, or high-volume numbers. I've worked at a medium-volume surgery clinic, and know from experience that careful monitoring during recovery is crucial. Things can easily be missed and quickly result in loss of life. I am so thankful for Dr. C and Kendra's level of attention and expertise. -Dr. Currigan and her staff worked with me to come up with an alternative payment plan if I should need it (I have a limited budget) - their care is expensive (and worth every cent) and they did everything possible to find a solution that worked for me. I *never* felt like the care  my cat or I received was compromised because of my budget constraints. I was always dealt with respectfully when I had to make difficult decisions about pursuing different treatment options and weighing the options within my budget.-Dr. Currigan saw my cat for a swollen forelimb prior to his dental surgery, and likewise provided an excellent level of care. Her knowledge was extensive and she had a wonderful bedside manner. She was personable, succinct, and compassionate. She worked with me to find the treatment options that were the most "bang for the buck," she presented me with the information I needed to make an informed decision and answered my many questions patiently and knowledgeably.-I was very nervous about the procedure (there was a possibility he could have died), the staff were adept at walking the fine line of acknowledging my concerns, being compassionate, and not filling me with false hope or making promises they couldn't keep. I felt like he was in very capable hands, the best place for him to be during this procedure. -There pain treatment stance is aggressive and appreciated.CONS:-None.   TAKEAWAY: -I will no longer be using any other vet for my cats. -I WISH THEY SAW DOGS! I'm truly thankful for the respect, care, attention, and knowledge that all those working at CHOC showed my lil' sweetheart. He is snoozing on my lap as we speak, a fact I owe to the wonderful staff and doctors at CHOH. Thank you! Read Less

Brought her in for constipation and within 24 hours she was no more. At no point in time was I told she was in need of more attention - once the Dr knew money wasn't free flowing the care stopped and my kitty is gone with no explanation. Very quick to make payment arrangements for the balance so why not go the extra mile and say - she's very sick she's needs more care don't take her home - why not tell the pet owner what's happening and help. Isn't that your job? Why wasn't she given an enema? Why did you drug her up so completely that she couldn't walk for her last 24 hours alive? Why did you not open your mouth and say something? I came home after being at this office a day before to a dead pet. I wouldn't recommend this facility to my worst enemy. Read Less

I have two cats that are 22 and 24 years old and have been clients of The Cat Hospital of Chicago for over twenty years. I attribute their longevity to the excellent care they receive from the Cat Hospital. They have had their health issues over the years but the doctors have always resolved those problems. When I moved to the suburbs I decided I could not entrust their well being to another vet and now drive them into the city; a 45 minute drive. The entire staff is very professional and friendly. They all try to make the visit as stress free as possible for a cat. The reception staff, techs, nurses and vets are all so kind and gentle when they are working with the patients. They follow up the visit with a phone call or email (your preference) for test results and information. A nurse or tech will often call after an appointment just to check on the cats. The doctors go out of their way to help your cat. My cat needed medication that was temporarily unavailable and the vet spent the time to find a compounding pharmacy to prepare the medicine. The doctors work there for a long time so if your cat has a favorite, you can request a certain vet. But every doctor there is terrific. As much as taking your cat to the vet can be a pleasant experience, you will have that at The Cat Hospital. Read Less

I can't say enough to really capture how wonderful this practice has been (but I am going to try)! Over the last few months, this amazing organization has been treating one of my two cats. Long story short, my cat was sick with one of two possible issues -- cancer or an inflamed/irritable bowel type problem. Regardless, my cat's outcome wasn't likely going to be good because she had loss half her body weight. Still, Dr. Z was great about walking me through her diagnosis and possible treatment options, while still being mindful of my budget and not judging me when I didn't always go for the most aggressive or expensive option. She was honest and realistic with me about the situation, and gave me the pros and cons of every choice I made, and laid out the possible resulting scenario. I was able to make informed decisions every step of the way. When Dr. Z was on vacation, Dr. Culligan picked up right where she left off so my cat had seamless care. My cat is now in her last few days/weeks and I have called with a million questions and issues ranging from better ways to pill my cat to pain management to "my healthy cat is being mean to the sick one and Google didn't give me any good suggestions about what to do." The staff have always helped, no matter how trivial the question. The staff has been amazingly supportive, gracious, and everybody has prioritized my cat's wellbeing and quality of life at every turn. They've taken an inordinate amount of time to walk me through options and make me feel as comfortable as I can with this situation. They've been compassionate towards me and incredibly supportive of my feelings and my (arguably crazy cat lady-level) love for my cat. They've helped me find an at home euthanasia option so my cat won't have to endure another car ride, have offered to work around my crazy personal schedule so I can get my cat's pain medication more easily, and have gone above and beyond every step of the way. They have made a horrible and stressful situation a little more bearable. This is the practice to go to if you want your cat to be have the best possible care; if you want to be treated with respect and compassion in every situation; and if you want your cat to be loved for the special little creature that they are and for the place they hold in your heart.Read Less

The staff's love, concern and dedication to its patients and cats in general is very evident and comforting. However, it is definitely worth the extra amount--especially if your cat gets really traumatized at the vet. Here you don't have to worry about the sounds and smells of other animals stressing them out--and that's a huge plus! Read Less

Having lived all over the country and watching the growth of cat only care, I quickly became hooked on the cat only environment. There is, however, caution to be made. Thinking that Vets who own or work in cat only clinics are far better trained than the averge vet in a mixed environment is not always the case. I took my cat to this clinic. I was not impressed. It isn't a loving environment. Costs are extremely high. When I researched the background of the vets, there was absolutely nothing in the way of advanced education that could have possibly justified the costs vs. care ratio. I was not impressed with the cleanliness. Compassion was a foreign concept. From the moment I walked in the door, I had a cold feeling. Dr. Cherwonky may have gone to Vet school and passed the State licensing exam but there's just not much else there. Compassion, empathy, demonstrtive love of cats--- all of the things you expect in a Vet seemed to be lost in the cold efficiency of the place. Read Less

Read Less
