I have to admit off the bat, I'm EXTREMELY picky when it comes to vets (plus I worked at a vet for 7 years and learned some things while I was there). When Dr. Chamberlain was a vet here, I would not go anywhere else!! Unfortunately she retired. The practice was taken over by the same owner as the Animal Doctor in Cary and there was a significant increase in prices (from fair/moderate to fairly expensive). The new vets we saw were friendly and fairly personable, I did like the extra perks (for example, the portal - they were a little more "hi-tech"), the facility in Cary is beautiful and I anticipate they will do some updating with this facility which is a bit older. They did more stuff "out of the room" than I'm used to and I don't really like that, but they seemed to care and treat my animals well. They did seem a little more "in it for the money" without concern for the clients budgets than I like...I get it, they are a business and they need to make money, however I would be more willing to do MORE stuff if their prices weren't really expensive or if they provided other ways to help save you money to make their services affordable. I was also a bit irritated that when I was given prices on the feline distemper vaccines, I was told the 3 year feline distemper would cost more than the 1 year...I am aware they are the same shot, just found via research to last longer than originally thought (maybe it was an error in the commotion of acquiring a new practice and changing prices and systems and such, but that put a bad taste in my mouth). The customer service has always been okay and this has not changed...the vet techs are great, some of the receptionists are very nice while others leaving something to be desired.I respected Dr. Chamberlain SO much:---for giving me that script for an antibiotic and telling me I can get it from Meijers from their free antibiotic program OR of course giving me the option to pay $20+ and get it at the vet (if there was a way to save you money, she would let you know)---for loaning me a dog cart she had in the attic for my shepherd (with only the agreement to return it when it was no longer needed) who was starting to lose control of the placement of her back legs---and for being realistic in terms of what my animals really needed (not just saying "we're going to do bloodwork, x-rays, and a urinalysis now" all off the bat, she would do tests or provide treatment for whatever she thought the issue was and go from there - that way if it was a simple UTI, we didn't do all the extra staff that probably wasn't necessary (but of course didn't hurt either)).She took her practice to a new level, and those are the things I look for in an extraordinary vet. That's something I just didn't really see here. In a pinch, I would go here again as I do believe they care and they do seem well educated as vets, but I will be expecting to possibly have more done than may be necessary and to spend a lot more money on doing so.
