My dog developed Inflammatory Bowel Disease last summer. It took a couple of months and a few visits to just diagnose and then several more months to cure. During that time I worked with Dr. Harrington the internal medicine vet. I cannot say enough good things about him. He kept in constant contact with me during the entire process to make sure we were headed in the right direction. It was amazing customer service that I never expected but greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend Dr. Harrington and Companion Animal Clinic to anyone!!! Read Less

I would not recommend this place. We have been going to vets for 20 years and never had any issues until we went here. They take advantage of people who are upset/worried about their pets. We weren't sure if our dog ate gum so we thought we would rather be safe then sorry. They came in an estimate after we declined to hospitalize him all tests were listed separate. They also try to scare you into doing everything. We decided to move forward with 2 of the tests for piece of mind. After they were done were waited for over 2 hours for our bill and then were charged for 8 tests when we only agreed to one. I called and asked for an adjustment which they didn't do. DO NOT GO THERE!!!!! My regular vet told me they ripped me off!!!! Read Less

I cannot thank this wonderful team enough for their assistance. My indoor cat who snuck out with the dogs on April 1st (no joke) and got herself knocked up was experiencing some issues with her labor. The second kitten took a long time to naturally deliver, and was sadly deceased on arrival due to a nightmare-fueling birth defect. We drove momma and her first baby to Companion right away around 11:30pm. Tech Emily, Dr. Phillips, and the rest of the team (I'm horrible with quick names - sorry!) were professional, compassionate, and unbelievably helpful when our minds were more or less Jello after dealing with kitten #2. Their facility is very clean with a wide array of equipment for most emergency needs. They took a radiograph to see the remaining babies, and the injection they gave momma helped speed the process along - she had another delivered before we shut the car door to go home! I am happy to say we have a total of three happy, little, fuzzy jelly beans as of 1:28am today - and I really don't think the last two would have gone nearly as smoothly without Companion's help. Know that your animals are in great hands coming here at all hours of the day and night. Again, thank you all so much! Read Less

A relationship that spanned many years, pets, and referrals -- destroyed in less than a visit. Our first thought, like always, was to come here immediately to seek aid. Triage turned us away on a Sunday afternoon with no offer to wait for attention. We are contending with an infection that could be contagious. Instead of taking action, we now sit and wait while this condition worsens. Additionally, we now have to take expensive time off this week to see our regular vet. This is ahead of already planned time off next week - for which we had boarding plans and now may not even be able to uphold. Do not depend on CASE in your time of need. Read Less

Companion performed surgery on our Lab as part of my son's Make A Wish. My son did not want anything for himself, only to correct the degenerative cartilage disease that his dog suffers from. Max helped him get through months of chemo. They graciously offered to cover the expenses not included. They offered swim rehab. When our Lab went swimming he had a staple in his leg. It became infected and required a high dose of antibiotics for a month. I was told by the managing partner that they only change the water once a week. During the winter months our dog's paw cracked open because of the cold. I cancelled the swim rehab fearing another infection. He gained a lot of weight since he was tranquilized for 4 months. We are taking him hiking everyday and making his dog food. My son's Make A Wish has tto be used by the end of May. Max needed to lose weight for optimum surgical results The manager called me to tell me that Companion was backing out. I asked how they could do something like that to a child recovering from cancer and a dog that needs surgery. I said I waa willing to have Max swim now because his paw was healed. He obviously cares more about the process of how Max loses weight rather then the big picture that Max does lose weight and the end result of doing good for a child and a dog. What a terrible message they are sending my son. Read Less

Being newer to the area, I haven't found a veterinary clinic to use yet so when my 9 month old Pug puppy inhaled his breakfast (literally!) and was having some trouble breathing, I decided to bring him into C.A.S.E. rather than risking a 45 minute drive to my usual clinic. I called C.A.S.E. in advance, and the phone was picked up on the first ring. The reception staff was kind and welcoming both on the phone and upon my arrival. My puppy was quickly triaged by a veterinary assistant to be certain he wasn't in critical need of care (he wasn't) and we were asked to take a seat. The waiting room was bright, clean, and comfortable with several seating areas helping to prevent contact between patients. We were called into a room in a reasonable amount of time where the assistant checked vitals, and the veterinarian was quick to see us as well. I appreciated being offered multiple options for courses of action including a conservative one (anti-inflammatory injection and observation at home). So often vets are quick to recommend invasive procedures, particularly for Pugs, and I appreciated the candidness in being told he likely didn't need the more invasive option, although it could potentially give us a more definitive answer. The staff gave an intravenous injection (which works faster than a typical sub-q injection), and they were kind enough to do so without shaving the leg as he is a show dog and has a competition this weekend. My puppy very quickly returned to his normal active (and naughty) self which tells me the conservative treatment option was the right choice to make. The veterinary assistant sat down with me before discharging us to go over the vet's recommendations as far as further medication, feeding instructions, and signs to watch for indicating further distress that might require additional care. I was surprised at how reasonable the visit was: $105 exam fee (not bad for an emergency visit) and a reasonable charge for the injection. Having worked in a veterinary clinic, I am impressed at what a well-oiled machine the staff appeared to be. We were welcomed, treated promptly, and released with care and compassion (and my puppy received lots of snuggles). I was even more impressed that the veterinarian who treated my Pug was also familiar with my other breed - a Toller - which is not very common (bonus points!). Although I hope to not have to utilize their services often, C.A.S.E. will be my go-to emergency clinic in the area! Read Less

Our dog was not feeling well after swallowing something and continuous vomiting, so we thought after 24 hrs we should bring her in for an exam.  WE have NO idea why after an exam and an X-Ray the charges would be $552.00....including meds which we could have gotten on our own thru our AAA club.  Dr Ragni seemed more interested in adding charges like an addl $400 for an overnight stay than in helping our dog. Don't these Vets take an Oath?? She also seemed annoyed when we asked questions about our dogs welfare.  After the exam we never saw her again...we were there a total of 4 hours.....the wait time was ridiculous, the staff less than friendly and NO Price List anywhere to be found.  Where do they get these prices?  Do they just make them up as they go along???  We like to be informed of pricing and given options every step of the way...but they seem to take advantage of 'pet parents' and their willingness to help their 'best friend' whatever the cost. Would we go back?  Not unless we had to.  Would we recommend this place?  No...WE like Golf Rose Animal Hospital in Schaumburg far better....People need to know the cost.......no wonder we heard rumors of people abandoning their pets at this place due to the outrageous costs they incur at this facility making it impossible to pay.  What a racket! This place is absolutely awful.  I took my dog, Maddie, here in August of 2016.  It was a Sunday and she was walking funny.  Dr. Kramer took X-rays and was sure it was the dog equivalent of a torn ACL.  She was ready to schedule 5K worth of surgery and physical therapy.  The next day I took Maddie to our regular vet and he wasn't so sure.  He said he couldn't see the tear and it may simply be stiffness.  He said to wait and see.  Maddie has been fine without surgery. We just took our dog, Dora, here.  The staff was incredibly rude.  Dora stayed in their hospital and everything it was time to release her, they said just one more day.  They charged about $400 a night to keep her so they had no incentive to release her.  Dr. Miller was incredibly rude and it was clear that we were bothering her by asking questions.  Funny, our bill was over $1,800.  I feel the vet can take 20 minutes to answer questions. We are never going back to this place again.  There are much better alternatives in the area. I never write reviews, but I feel as if we had such a great experience here that I have to! We have been trying to figure out what is wrong with our dog for the past year. Our regular vet kept assuming allergies and giving us different medications to try. Very frustrating! But after spending a couple of hours at CASE on Sunday night, because of our dog's alarming symptoms, we immediately got results as a diagnosis of Addison's disease. The staff was extremely friendly and understanding , and the facility was very clean and welcoming. Sure it was expensive because it is an animal hospital, but we feel so relieved knowing how to help our young dog and felt very comfortable leaving him at CASE overnight with the kind staff. In early July, we began dealing with an undiagnosed issue with one of our two labs (Hank).  To get a proper diagnosis, our vet referred us to Companion Animal Specialty & Emergency.  After the tests, our dog was diagnosed with an incurable but potentially manageable condition called megaesophagus.  We began taking the necessary steps to provide long term care to a special needs dog.  Unfortunately, after a few weeks, we were not seeing the improvement that we (the vet included) were expecting.  After another battery of tests, it was determined that the megaesophagus was actually the secondary issue and was caused by a disease that affects the dogs ability to swallow.  The only way to diagnosis this was by feeding the dog while he was laid out on the CT machine.  This of course presented an entirely new set of challenges.  We were presented with our four options (two of which were immediately dismissed due to cost and logistics).  We chose a course of treatment that would put an added burden (both time and money), but it was one we could afford and it did give our pup and chance at a relatively normal life.  Throughout this entire process, which up to this point had included multiple stays at the hospital, Hank had made a real impression on the staff at CASE.  They recognized him by name the moment we would walk through the door, and he appeared equally excited to se the people there. After a month that included a few setbacks but still plenty of reason for optimism, our pup took a severe turn for the worst.  Initially we wrote it off as just a bad night, but it quickly became apparent that something was really wrong.  After an X-ray was taken and we consulted with the vet, our worst fears were realized.  We had to make the difficult decision to let Hank go.  Throughout the entire process, we were all treated with incredible dignity and respect.  We were allowed to complete all of the necessary paperwork and payment information in a private room so we wouldn't have to spend time at the front counter once everything was over.  During this process, even the vet tech appeared to be really affected by the situation, which I have to believe is because of the impression Hank left on all of them.  Due to Hank's diagnosis, we dealt primarily with the internist at CASE, Dr. Harrington.  He was incredibly informative without pushing us in any direction we did not want to go in.  I would rate is care and compassion of our dog as second to none.  For the last few months, he would call us at least once a week just to check on Hank's progress, answer any questions that came up, and offer additional advice/direction regarding the day to day care.  Even in the room as our dog took is final breath, Dr. Harrington was another soothing voice in the room with a caring hand on Hank. While this ordeal ended with the worst possible outcome, we will never hesitate to bring another one of our dogs or to recommend anyone else bring their pet to CASE.  From Dr. Harrington and the other vets down to all of the vet techs, your pet is in extremely caring hands with the staff at CASE. We unfortunately had to visit CASE last night with a very sick kitty, and in the end, make the incredibly difficult decision to let her go.  Overall, I was satisfied with the care provided, appreciated the compassion of the staff we worked with, and would recommend / return to CASE for emergency care.As background:  Over the course of about 24-48 hours, my 11 year old cat went from slightly lethargic to unable to stand on her own, and after looking online / calling a few places for an estimate around 7pm on a Sunday, we decided to go to CASE - their fee was slightly lower then the others I called, and they were the closest. When we arrived, the employee at the front desk (who I spoke to on the phone before coming in) immediately called a nurse out to meet with us.  The nurse got some basic information from us, and based on our cat's condition, took her back to be evaluated immediately while we finished checking in.  After waiting about 20-30 minutes in the waiting room (which was nice - open, but the "nooks" allowed for some privacy), the nurse brought us in to a room to meet with the doctor, who advised us comprehensively on the situation.Based on the doctor's advice, we opted to run a few more tests before making a decision, and were advised the wait would be about 40 minutes (which was accurate).  After the additional tests were run, the vet met with us again and gave us a thorough overview of the test results and our cat's condition / prognosis.  They gave us all the time we needed to make our decision, were up front about our options (including potential hardships and cost if we tried to treat her), and were really great about giving us some time to say goodbye to our cat, along with reassuring us we were making the right decision by letting her go peacefully.  They were also able to get us a cast of her paw print before we left (at no cost), which is a nice memento. While I can understand the reviewers who felt taken advantage of (based on costs and payment requirements), as someone who has worked at multiple vet hospitals over the years, I can say the price we paid was certainly not inexpensive, but it was fair for the care provided and services rendered.  I also would expect any clinic like this to be up front about payment options and timeliness, which CASE was, in my experience.***The main reason I took away one star is that I was not advised of the costs for the additional tests when they were recommended, nor for the options when we were deciding how to handle her remains - it would have been helpful to have that information up front, and I wasn't really in a good mental state to remember to ask.  While I understand it may seem crass to talk money while dealing with an ailing pet, and they were always forthcoming when asked, I do wish the staff had offered the information a bit more readily at each stage, as it would have made it easier to be prepared for the final bill.*** Read Less

I recommend this emergency vet over Premier any day. It's a nicer facility and the people are nicer too. The prices are also less than Premier. I called before bringing my dog in to get the wait time, say we were on the way, and get costs for the visit and an X-ray. All were answers were provided quickly and in a friendly way. Premier however rudely explained they already had an hour and a half wait plus they could not provide a quote for one X-ray because apparently that is a fluctuating cost for them. Anyway, we arrived at Companion and were quickly greeted by a tech that assessed our dogs condition and the urgency. Check in was quick and easy. There was another dog checking in at the same time that also received fast service. Their waiting area is really nice. They have cushioned benches sectioned off in groups which was nice. The facility itself was very modern and clean. We waited less than 10 minutes for a room. After the tech saw us we waited another 15 for the vet. They gave our dog a pain shot, waited 15 min for it to kick in, took two X-rays and had her relax in back. The process took about 45 minutes. The vet came back and explained everything. Then 10 minutes later we had our medication and our dog, checked out and headed home. I wish we knew exactly what the problem was but I think the vet made a good decision with the next steps. She didn't pressure us to do something right then. Rather all the info will go to our normal vet to decide next steps. It was $365 total which I think was good for emergency. Visit was $95, X-rays $85 a piece, fluid materials around $20 total and normal pricing for meds. All of which they were willing to quote over the phone (with the understanding the treatment plan may include other things, etc). They also take Care Credit. Overall I'm happy with our choice to go here over Premier, the other emergency vet in our area. Better place, better care, better prices and overall better experience. Read Less

This place has truly been a life saver! Unfortunately I have made three visits here over the past 2 1/2 years.  The first time was with my cat Achilles who had what we were told by our regular vet was a Triaditis flare up.  He had it once before about six months previous and without really checking him over my regular vet made that assumption.  At about 12:00 am one night he seemed to be in much more pain than seemed normal so I took him in to Companion Animal.  They checked him over and did some tests and immediately noticed that he had wide spread cancer through his entire body as well as congestive heart failure.  Something my regular vet should have noticed.  They put my baby in a ventilator and said they would watch him over night to see how he did and we would go from there.  Sadly my poor boy passed away hours later.  They put him on a cozy gurney with blankets pulled up around him.  Everyone was so comforting and made the experience slightly less painful as I knew my baby had gotten the best care.  The second time we went here was for my dog Dakota who had gotten vaccinated earlier in the day.  She had a bad reaction to the distemper vaccine and her entire face swelled up to the point that she could barely open her eyes.  We took her over to Companion Animal at about 10:00 pm and they took care of her right away.  They gave her something to stop the reaction and checked her vital signs and her hydration levels.   The third time we went here was for my cat Willow.  I caught her eating the leaf of a lily which can be deadly to cats if not treated.  I rushed over to Companion Animal right away at about 11:00 pm.  They went over the treatment plan and got her started on fluids to flush the toxins from her body right away.  She stayed there for 48 hours as is usual for cases like these.  She was kept on an IV and given charcoal to soak up the toxins so her kidneys would not be damaged.  They gave me a direct line to the ICU that I was able to call at any time 24/7.  When the 48 hours were up they checked her kidney levels to see if she had sustained any damage and everything looked great!  They wanted me to take Willow in to our regular vet two days after I picked her up to recheck her kidney levels and they were perfectly normal.  My regular vet told me that getting Willow to the ER vet so fast was what really saved her. I don't know what I would have done if Companion Animal was not so close and helpful.  They are always friendly and helpful.  I am so grateful that they have always taken such good care of my babies. Every dog and cat parent should keep their number handy. Read Less

I wanted to give this 5 stars. Let's start off by saying that my 1.5 year old shih tzu mix is not very smart and she swallowed a big chunk of rawhide. This happens fairly often without incident however last night she could not stop coughing and hacking so I decided not to chance it and take her into Companion Animal at about 8pm. We just missed rush hour apparently, they were busy. It's not cheap but in an emergency you aren't really paying much attention to cost. They were very upfront about what everything would cost which was good. What really bothered me is that I saw 3 different signs that said "ask us about our no interest payment plans." When I did ask about it while being discharged (the dog was fine, she actually coughed up the bit of rawhide while we were IN THE OFFICE and now I kind of hate her) her response was "oh we have that but you have to fill out a whole form." and that was it. No further explanation on if it took a long time to process or it was too late to get approval, that was it. It was really disappointing because the rest of our visit was really as pleasant as it could have been. I would not hesitate to go here again and would advise others to go here in an emergency. It won't be cheap though. It cost me $300 just to figure out that Birdie is not allowed rawhides anymore. Read Less

After reading Tom S's post, I felt it required to post this.  I had a poor experience here.  My cat had unnecessary surgery, as it was deemed by its usual veterinarian.  They demanded $ upfront to perform and offered no payment plans.  In an emergency you don't really have time to deal with thoughtless business practices.Buyer beware.  I absolutely should have waited 24 hrs until it could see my vet for a second opinion before subjecting the pet to surgery, and my regular vet said the surgery was unnecessary, but Companion Animal convinced me it was medically necessary.Update: As of 8/31/2015, make sure you read the yelp "not recommended reviews" for this business because yelp's bot has filtered out many negative legit reviews, including the post from Tom S, which I referenced when this review was written in 2012.

Kelsey, Physical Therapist, has such a heart of gold and is such a nice, caring girl and always willing to listen and make great suggestions. Dr. Turner, Vet, very knowledgeable. Completely, totally trust her opinion. Above all, everyone here is each so knowledgeable and I highly recommend them. Not to mention, Diezel and Tawny, just love them. All they have to do is hear their voices in another room and they get excited. Keep up the great work, CASE! Read Less

Taking a beloved pet to the emergency care is never an easy decision. I tried calling my vet but the veterinary hours were over for that night. I did not feel I could wait until the following morning and took my kitten to Companion. I was impressed as soon as I arrived. They took her back immediately to start assessing her condition. Everyone there was so kind to us and to our "Snickers." I sadly left her but confident in their care. Unfortunately we lost our little one but I cannot express how patient, kind and caring the doctors and all the techs and staff were. Thank you so much for being there. Read Less

Excellent experience from start to finish. Our Doberman had a flipped stomach and they had an IV in him, blood work done and scanned him within minutes of arrival. The surgery went very well and they assured us he would be under constant supervision over night. The next morning he was up and walking around. We visited him several times over the next few days and were very happy with the attention and care he received. We also called several times and talked with the doctor on duty, each one taking the time to make sure all of our questions and concerns were addressed. I highly recommend this facility and staff, and I am very happy to have them available to us if we would need their services again. Read Less
