After coming from a heart specialist and having gotten a couple of opinions, I was lucky to be referred from a good friends patient's dog owner to get in here. Bella's now doing much better for an elderly Chihuahua that was given 6 months to live! She had stem cell therapy, (I joke that she's part )! And she really did start using her paw like Mr. Ed as to say 'YES' when I'd ask her a question! Never had done that, no joke!... I also changed her diet which was recommended and helped. Dr. Chris and the entire staff at Rising Sun are OUTSTANDING! We "happened upon" him and this group about 5-6 years ago. I know someone gave them fewer stars for not taking new patients, but that speaks volumes about the care and dedication they have to those they serve. They're not in it for the financial gain, they're in it because they are genuine, thoughtful clinicians, who care about the well being of animals and their owners! Both of our elderly Labs were seen regularly by Dr. Chris and we thank him for treating them like the family members we believed them to be. He went above and beyond (as did the staff) to maintain the quality of life for our pups. He was there with us when it was time to let them go - with kindness, dignity, and grace. We now have a three year old Lab and she was welcomed into their Rising Sun Family as well. We love them and are SO thankful to be under their care! What the location lacks in glitz and glamour, it makes up for in substance and care. Don't get fooled by others. I believe they have a wait list or you can call back periodically to see if the status of accepting new patients changes, but we will NEVER leave them! I'm picking up my Maddie's ashes tomorrow. Dr. Chris was kind enough to fit us in during a busy Saturday morning to see my sweet dog for the first, and ultimately last time. He was amazingly compassionate, yet thorough in his time with us. My daughters and I discussed after that having to tell a family their beloved pet has come to a point that is unfixable has got to be the hardest thing about being a vet. Dr. Chris handled everything wonderfully. I will be posting something on my own page to tell everyone I know that it's worth the drive to Des Plaines. Best Vet ever!!! Not only is Dr. Chris very conservative with tests/medications he thinks and treats outside the box. His style is so unique I was a bit uncomfortable at first but his diagnosis/treatments have always€ been not only accurate and completely effective, but as gentle as possible on our pup and our wallet. A week ago tomorrow, we were meeting Dr. Chris for the first time so he could meet our dog Bentley, who had been diagnosed with a tumor on his spleen, and offer his recommendation for treatment. I instantly felt an amazing rapport with him and trusted everything he was saying. Two days ago, Drs. Chris and Lisa performed a splenectomy on Bentley to remove his spleen and tumor and hopefully give him the fighting chance we want for him and know he deserves! We brought our ba...by home last night and couldn't be happier with the outcome as well as the care he received throughout! I can't say enough about Dr. Chris and his wife Lisa as well as his whole staff and practice! I haven't felt this good about a vet and/or practice in a long time, if ever! The personal touch they add to the care, including regular check ins/follow ups just blew me away! I knew my dog was in good hands the moment we met him regardless of the outcome. My family has been going here for at least 20+ years. Dr. Chris is absolutely the best vet there is. He actually cares about the pets that come in and is not all about how to squeeze every last dime out of you like many vets I've gone to. He takes the time to get to know both pet and owner and will work with you if funds are a little low. My hubby and I will be moving about 45 minutes away to be closer to work but even tho there will be vets closer to where we will be living, we will only ever be going to Dr. Chris. He is worth the long drive because he is an amazing Vet. Hands down no one beats him. My mom and grandma also go to him and his wife Dr. Lisa. This is a great clinic...very caring and affordable. I travel 20 minutes past many other vets to take my cat who HATES riding in the car here because they are just that great. Highly recommend them.***UPDATE*** My cat had a reaction to the vaccinations... not only did they fit him in the same day, but they didn't charge for the appointment!  I have never experienced this ever!!  And really, they did nothing wrong... it was just unfortunate that he reacted badly to the shots.  What a caring, amazing place this is... the best! They are the best!!  My dogs have seen all 3 doctors there and they are all fantastic!  Treatment is holistic  in nature and they don't try to over prescribe.  Prices are reasonable and they are extremely caring.The negative reviews I read on here are complaining that they no longer take new patients, in order to better serve their existing customer base. Rating a vet you'e never seen low because you can't go there seems unfair since they can't actually critique their service. Read Less

Dr. Chris and Dr. Lisa are the best! So willing to help spot on in their treatment! From small but scary issues - like a big dog suffering sudden acute abdominal pain (turns out to be gas pains), to BIG and scary issues like a dog in acute distress from splenic tumors they have it covered. Dr. Chris and his wife Dr. Lisa will do whatever it takes to help your furry "loved one/s". They are so sensitive, caring, loving and will do their best to find alternative measures to solve issues along with their staff. They both saved my cat "Tony" 4 years ago from complete renal failure who was on life support. Stem cell therapy helped Tony along with all their knowledge and love. Great vet, Chris and his wife, Lisa are the best. They go out of there way to check on your pets progress on their days off. I love the alternative medication options. I've been going there for 6+ years. I wish he was my regular doctor. 100+% better than what I had. The staff is also very pleasant and caring. A busy clinic shows ACTUAL care is being done. Ever been to a hoity toity vet---its awful. It's like getting smoke blown up your butt just to spend a ton of money on your beloved pet and them still being sick or "not knowing" what's wrong. So busy means business is good and for a reason. NEXT!The Streamwood review: I am sorry to hear about the pancreatitis part of your review and am glad to hear your dog is doing better. That is important to recognize those kind of symptoms. My only thing to say here is to remind yourself about when your dog's vaccine is due. You want a postcard? Like what? A hoity toity vet....go to Lincoln Park...where your dog is a number. I have nothing but great things to say about the staff & Dr. Chris. Dr. Chris Serpico and Dr. Lisa Serpico are the most compassionate vets you will find. In fact I often say I wish I could find a human doctor for myself that mirrors the care of these two amazing doctors!! Dr. Chris has the best combination of an Eastern and Western medicine approach that has prolonged the life of my Huskies by many years. My Husky/Keeshond was diagnosed with liver cancer in March of 2011. She had the liver tumor removed and with the dedicated holistic care of Dr. Chris for the next 4 years she lived a happy and good quality of life as a cancer survivor.
