I moved out from CA in 2006 and have taken my pets here ever since. They have watched over two of our cats and two of our dogs. They always spent the right amount of time with our pet and ourselves to understand what might be happening in an effort to diagnose any ailment. They also worked closely with specialist in and around Chicago to ensure our pets got the best care. They followed up even when we forgot or were busy to make sure our pets health was improving. We have been taking our cats here for generations. The Doctors @ Fox are compassionate, down-to-earth and very knowledgeable. It's easy to get in when you need to see them quickly and they treat every animal like family. We were so pleased with our recent visit to Fox Animal Hospital for our new pet! We recently adopted a cat from Chicago Animal Control and were told to follow-up within 2 weeks to a vet. This cold, sunny winter morning, my partner & wife drove our two (neutered) male cats--a part-Siamese, Rag-Doll Rescue aged 8, & a 9 year-old Siberian Pure-bred--to Fox Vet Hsp. near our new North Skokie digs .but also cuz we really appreciated Dr. F. while she was ipart of a veternary group, last century--two long decades & felines ago. Today, wife reports doc & staff are apparently all low key, high functioning professionals, both meticulous & kind, who seemed equally at ease with cats & their humans. This has been a particular concern re our high octave, high octane Siberian--once described by an emergency vet as, 'fractious!". Questioned on their meowing return an hour ago, wife asserted that the only thing more the vet could've done was not charge us for her capable srvices. (Fat, furry chance, huh....) I have never been so disappointed in a medical facility in my entire life. My cat has been seen a fox animal hospital for 10 years. Up until the very end things were great. He developed diabetes and I am disabled and it's very difficult for me to get him in for regular checkups. The hospital staff are outstanding. The doctors one in particular are a nightmare. I asked them on several occasions to be flexible about refilling prescriptions and they refused to do so without seeing him. They put his life in jeopardy. Luckily he is still healthy and managing day by day. I strongly suggest using any other facility besides Fox Animal  hospital. Read Less

Cats. Sometimes you marry a girl and she has cats. Of you're like me, she is crazy for those cats and they need to be taken care of. If I was you I would take them to fox animal hospital. There was a time when the cat got sick and I demanded we go to a cheaper place, and we got what we paid for and ended up back at fox anyway. Save your time and money and just bring them here. I saw Dr. Lemka today with my very sick cat who is 19-20 years old. She was a breath of fresh air. I loved her because she did not want to do things that were not necessary at his age. I really like that because it kept the cost down for me. This meant a lot because I have been struggling and going thru hard times lately. I wish more Vet's were like her. It is really great when you try to consider where the person is financially before you go ahead with a lot of test's that can cost a fortune. I would like to thank her for all her help today. One of Dr Fox's vets wanted to charge me a thousand dollars to keep my cat over night, for a UTI.  I paid them $350 just to get the cat back.  Took the cat to another vet that fixed her for $75 including medication.   What these people do here at Fox is so wrong, how many animals don't get fixed or put down because of the inflated cost.  What these people do is a crime. Very reasonable pricing and they take more than enough time to sit down and talk to you about any issues. First, my cat passed away seven months ago, and without being a prior customer, Fox animal Hospital took care of my cat immediately. Secondly, when my guinea pig had an overgrown tooth, I called on a Sunday (they were closed) but someone still called back within an hour and referred me to a specialist. They are great at making sure you feel taken care of, and even if they can not handle your situation, they give you the resources and references of someone who can. Fox Animal Hospital:Thanks for trying to make money from my cat, even though she's been dead for seven months. I decided to take my cat to a different vet when it was clear that the vets at Fox weren't even reading my poor cat's chart. She had kidney disease, and I worked with Fox on treating her, but it always felt like I was the lead on the treatment, where most of the useful information came from the Internet. The last straw was when the vet suggested I give Kitty sub-q fluids when I had, in fact, on their recommendation, been administering fluids for TWO YEARS - read the chart, please - vet who charges top dollar.....The new vet gave my kitty a medication that stopped her gut-wrenching vomiting in the morning, something that Fox didn't either know about or care to offer. They gave her the greatest care through the end of her life, and greatly reduced her stress and pain.When kitty died, I got beautiful handwritten cards from her new vets, donations in her name to cat research and a call on a weekend to see how I was doing.I emailed the vet from Fox as a courtesy to let him know that kitty has passed away and I heard nothing - nothing that is until this week, when I received a postcard letting me know that kitty was due for her six month checkup.My biggest regret is that I paid the majority of fees to Fox for kitty's care. They didn't deserve it. I often felt that kitty was getting short shrift from Fox's vets and now I have proof. At least their marketing computer program remembered her.I have a new cat - guess where I take her? Not Fox.I have a dog now too, he doesn't go to Fox either. Read Less

My shih tzu sees Dr. Lyons, who is fabulous with the dog AND with my daughter, who asks four million questions per visit.  When my dog's blood test results came in Dr. Lyons wasn't available... but she communicated with Dr. Hartzen, who contacted me and kept me up to date.  A few days later, Dr. Lyons called me to check in on my dog's progress.  The staff at the front is always friendly and helpful.  I couldn't ask for a better vet experience! I really love Fox Animal Hospital. Every time we go in we always leave with such a good feeling and it's such a pleasure to speak with the doc's.  We've had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Fox and Dr. Hartzen on several occasions for our pups and you can really tell they have such love for all animals. They're fun, funny and just intelligent, caring doctors. The staff is great also. We've had to call for advice (ie: dogs getting skunked or dog bites) and they've always been helpful over the phone without making us come in if not needed. Dr. Hartzen is our dogs vet.  He is good with our dog and the staff is friendly.  We recently moved to the area and this is our first dog so don't have local options to compare to.  I like that it's a small office and it's easy to get appointments.  I'm hesitant to give them a 5 since compared to the vet I used to take my cat to in Minneapolis - they seem a little less approachable sometimes.  Guess I just felt a little odd when I'd ask questions about what to watch out for and when to worry with a puppy- things he might get into or eat like twigs or chocolate.  Can't nail down what it was the dr. said that made me feel like a dumb dog owner - maybe it was just a look he gave me.  Could have been how I asked though too and me actually feeling a bit nervous about having a new puppy to care for and train.They neutered our puppy and microchipped him - he seemed to be fine afterwards and recovered quickly.Given the good service and convenient location to where we live we'll keep taking our dog to Fox Animal Hospital. There are no words to convey just how great Dr. Fox and the staff of Fox Animal Hospital are.  I've been to two other vets in Evanston in the 12 years that I've had my cats, and they can't even begin to compare.It's obvious that Dr. Fox truly loves animals.  He's incredibly sweet and gentle with my pets and and talks directly to them as if they were his own.  To say that he's "calming" and "reassuring" is an understatement.  Dr. Fox is a great listener and never fails to offer helpful insight and solutions based on his years of expertise, both as a veterinarian and a pet owner.  The last vet office I went to looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in years.  Fox Animal Hospital is so clean, you could lick the floors.  And while it's true that quality veterinary care isn't cheap, I don't think that Fox is priced any higher than other comparable vets.  Plus, they'll gladly perform small ancillary services at no additional charge. For instance, another vet refused to clean my cat's soiled fur after they treated her for a urinary tract infection, because they were "too busy"--they said I had to go to a groomer.  Fox would never even think of such a thing.If you're looking for top-notch medical care for your pets performed by compassionate people who truly care, GO TO FOX! Writing this on behalf of my parents who aren't yelpers as yet...  My parents have been taking our family pup to see Dr. Fox ever since we adopted our dog Luce (or Baby Lu as we all call him), almost close to 17 years.  I remember he used to be part of an animal hospital in Skokie or Wilmette and we've followed him here when he opened his animal hospital back in the '90's.   My parents have a secondary house on the West Coast but they can't imagine leaving the Chicagoland area since Dr. Fox is great and the doctors that they've seen in other locales when traveling haven't compared.  Dr. Fox is gentle and wonderful with our old little fellow who is still a puppy at heart from taking care of his teeth through the years to more recently helping keep these cysts that pop up on his body under control.   He is patient when they've called with unexpected worries and has been able to get them for emergencies although his practice is busy.  Just this morning they had to take Lu in for surgery to remove a cyst that was in danger of rupturing on his tail.  It's always a difficult decision to take your dog especially older pup in for surgery but in Doctor Fox's capable hands it made it a little less unnerving.  Fortunately, Luce is recovering fine. I brought my pets here for several years, and had good experiences with Dr. Lyons. In 2009, I brought my dog, Teddy in for a lick granuloma, and was seen by Dr. Fox.  When Teddy did not get better, I called back, and was told that no follow-up instructions had been left, and that the Dr. was out of the country for a month. Luckily, I resolved the problem on my own, by putting a shirt on my dog, so he could not irritate the area.In 2011, I brought my cat Timmy in for a dental cleaning. He had preliminary bloodwork done, and Dr. Hartzen called me to tell me that Timmy had Chronic Renal Disease, that his kidneys are failing. Dr. Hartzen advised me to go ahead with the dental work, which would include extractions. The only thing he said I could do for the failing kidneys would be to administer fluids under the skin, for dehydration. No other options were discussed. I had the dental work done, and my bill was nearly $700. When I went to pick Timmy up, I asked to see Dr. Hartzen, to discuss future treatment for kidney disease. Dr. Hartzen was seeing other patients, but came in to see me briefly. He began to explain the blood tests to me. Since I have had medical training, I told him I understood the test results, but wanted to discuss treatment. He left the room. I also found that I was double charged for two procedures, by Dr. Hartzen. I later tried to reach Dr. Hartzen by phone, but he still would not give me treatment options for my cat. I complained to Dr. Fox, and to the office manager, to no avail.My cat Timmy had a terrible time recovering, and I felt a complete lack of support from the doctors at Fox animal clinic. They seemed very overbooked when I was in there. I am lucky that I stayed in touch with my cat's original vet in Georgia, as he has kept up with research on Feline CRD, and was able to advise me on treating my cat.Timmy is now doing very well, nearly four months later, and is on compounded Calcitriol. This was not an option mentioned by Dr. Hartzen. Read Less

I have been sending my dog to this vet since he was 6 weeks old (he's now 7 years old).  I have been seeing Dr. Hartzen (and on occasion Dr. Fox) and just adore both of them.  However, I did see Dr. Jethani on one occasion when my dog was having intestinal issues.  Dr. Jethani basically told me in a very insensitive, patronizing way that there was nothing that she could do for him.  I decided at that moment, that I would be certain to never plan a visit with her.  I loved the facility and other two doctors.However, Dr. Hartzen is not there very often and I had an appointment scheduled for my dog today and they did not have it in their system.  The only doctor available to see my dog was Dr. Jethani.I am now transferring the records to the Skokie Animal Hospital and crossing my fingers that this will work out better... I first learned about Fox Animal Hospital when I helped a friend take his two cats. I have never heard such screaming from a cat as these guys did the second they were in their carriers. Then one of them began drooling this thick, rope-like fluid. My friend says it is normal for him to do so when he's going to the vet. As soon as the receptionist saw (and heard) what was going on, she rushed us into a room and a Dr. was with us very quickly. She took her time with each cat and carefully explained everything to us. So when I first got Ebenezer, my Shipoo puppy, I took him to Fox, even though it isn't convenient to where I live on Chicago's lakefront. (Fox is in west Evanston). I have always been thrilled with the care he's gotten. They explain everything carefully and will repeat it if they sense I've misunderstood something. Everyone there not only loves animals, but also has great people skills. When I was living out of state for several months, I was shocked at the vets I found there compared to the staff at Fox. They are a compassionate and caring group... on my initial visit with my pupster Baxter, Dr Hartzen took a long time getting to know Baxter and talking with me before starting in with his exam... putting both me and Baxter very much at ease.
