We had spent the last decade at Carriage Animal Clinic and when they tore it down to rebuild we were naturally concerned about our pets care at a different vets office - no need to worry - they've been wonderful! Today was the last time we will ever visit this location. I booked an appointment for 6:30pm. I showed up half an hour prior and was greeted by absolutely couldn't-care-less-attitude front desk woman. She was unable to find my appointment, or the doctor for that matter. She then had me explain in great detail what my dog was in for, even though I wanted to keep that between my doctor and I. We got some bad news, and while Dr. Hiatt is very professional, there was no compassion shown. She also seemed to want to rush us into surgery which just felt odd. I wanted a second opinion before anything is done. At the exit, the same woman helped me at checkout. I asked her to first itemize the invoice, but she just barked the total at me. That was it. I wasn't wowed by the visit. I was referred here because I bought my pup through Petland in Naperville. With the purchase of my pup they include a "free exam" at one of two vet hospitals and Glen Ellyn was one of them. The staff seemed friendly. It was my pups first vet appointment so registration took about 10 mins. I'm not a huge fan of the appointment system. I had to make an appointment to be seen. Maybe I've been spoiled with the vet I usually go to who sees appointments by walk in only. I prefer the walk in system better. In my opinion, my pups care is more accessible that way. If I just needed to go for some routine shots, I can just walk in and leave where at Glen Ellyn the process is a little longer with making the appointment which could be days out. Again not big deal but just my preference. When they called my pups name the vet tech escorted us to the room. I think she was new. No smile, no eye contact, not very welcoming. To be honest, that really set the tone for me. I waited for the vet to come in for another 10 mins. Her name was Dr. Mann. She was okay. My puppy's well exam was a whopping 30 seconds. I think I expected it to be a more of thorough exam then just a visual examination, a rub here, and rub there, and a listen here. She didn't check his teeth properly, she didn't check his ears, eyes, nose, or even took his temperature. I guess that's what a "free exam" is worth. She did however (and I expected this) try to upsell me vaccinations and worming. I went ahead and gave her recommended vaccines this time. Would I go back? Maybe, I'd give anything a second chance (if it wasn't terrible the first time and it wasn't). Also if you buy your pup from Petland and choose this hospital, in order to receive your "free" neuter you're locked in to their specific services at their hospital. You can't take them elsewhere for the services needed before they can do the neuter for "free". I mean I guess you can take them somewhere else but then they'd charge you for the neuter if you decided to go back Glen Ellyn. She took my pup to a back room to get vaccinated. First time that's happened. In my experience the vet usually administers the vaccines in the room with you. Maybe there is a reason for this but for all I know it maybe didn't happen haha. Or how do I know if it was done well? I think I would have felt more comfortable knowing that the vet administered vaccines vs lets say an intern, or another tech. Overall I gave it 3 stars for their subpar customer service (they didn't really do a good job at explaining what was going to happen next), somewhat friendly staff, clean waiting room, good parking, and somewhat competitive prices. Dissapointed with "Kelly" Manager today. Kinda rude and very redundant with her word "Okay". I was charged a $106 for the same service they've done last time. Explanation was, the staff forgot to put the service fee last time . What an excuse. All my dogs are registered under them and I always pay in full. Well, you just lost a customer today as your Manager Kelly is not helpful. Been charged different price with the same service. Tried to clarified it but the answer I got from her was just "okay". I'm quite disappointed with this facility. A few years back, my dog grew a cyst on his eye, and I had it removed here. After a month, I noticed his eye had not stopped leaking, and they told me they probably made a mistake while putting his eyelid back into place, and did not refund any money. The thing that really got me was recently, my dog grew a tumor on his bottom teeth, which the vet told me was cancer WITHOUT running any tests, and proceeded to tell me he had 4-6 months left to live. I cried in her office, heartbroken. After a few months, the tumor came off, which I'm assuming he bit off, and knowing that cancer doesn't just fall off, I called, and she told me in a very light voice, "oh, it could have just been a papilloma!" Now, why would someone give a dog a death date without being certain? I'm incredibly unhappy and will be using a new veterinarian from now on.Read Less

Looking at some of these poor reviews is laughable at best. These people complaining about boarding...are they up to date on their shots prior to boarding, most importantly, their bordetella. The coughing sounds like kennel cough & the dog losing weight? One of my dogs goes through that EVERY TIME HE'S KENNELED!!! It's not a staff issue, it's an issue of the DOG potentially being stressed being away from home & having to be kept in a strange environment. If you don't know this by now, maybe you shouldn't have a dog. And those griping about Petland? Here's a clue...DON'T BUY FROM PET STORES!!!! You're promoting the use of puppy mills!!! Use a reputable breeder or adopt from a shelter. The one complaining about getting heartworm prevention not made for her breed? If you have half a brain in your head, you'd know the preventative treatment is based on WEIGHT not BREED so take your BS elsewhere. All these bad reviews sound like nothing but BS. I've been bringing all of my dogs there for 13 years. I haven't once experienced ANYTHING these people are crying about, and I've seen multiple doctors there & dealt with many different staff members over the years. So take your one star, 2 star reviews & shove them up your backside. There's nobody I trust to take care of my babies more than Dr. Buishas & Dr. Schmidt. Even after moving out of state & not finding care I like w/local doctors, I still call back & they gladly still talk to me about the care of my pets because even not being there anymore, they still care & THAT'S what's most important to me! Wonderful Animal Hospital! My girl needed one of those ACL surgeries, and a neighbor suggested I go here. I checked prices in other areas and this hospital had an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Manna, who is not board certified but knows the procedure very well and was the least expensive in the area. My only mistake was I took the cone off and she tore into her staples. Well, long story short, they have been wonderful in correcting the problem, and very considerate of my finances and working with me. This was not only a stupid but expensive mistake. Every person there, from front desk, to vet techs, to doctors, have been nothing but the most courteous professionals that I have ever dealt with. I'm loyal to my vet at Lombard Vet Clinic, but if I ever needed for what ever reason to find another vet, or another place to go, I would not hesitate to bring my dog to this clinic in a heartbeat. I take care of a feral cat colony at my workplace, and one of them was limping severely and had a large wound on its front leg. I knew I could not avoid seeking medical attention anymore, but I was not sure where to turn. Feral Fixers pointed me directly to the Glen Ellyn Animal Hospital, as they informed me it was one of the few veterinary clinics that will take care of feral cats. They recommended I speak to Dr. Bauer or Dr. Schmidt. I took Sylvester over later that day, no appointment necessary. I was helped immediately, and the doctor and staff explained everything very thoroughly to me and really made me feel at ease about sending him in. I am in the patient room waiting to pick up my puppy who was neutered and was told to pick him up between 4-5. As you can see it is 5:55 now and we are still waiting. Upon arriving we were told that the neutering would be free since they partner with the adoption center we got our dog from. We come to the counter and they tell us it would be $250 (with a free neutering). After arguing with the desk lady that it was supposed to be free she "magically" brought the price down to $180, which I still believe is way too much. We were only supposed to be charged for the blood work, cone, and meds. When she handed us the receipt it was not itemized so we really have no idea what we were charged for. I've had an absolutely terrible, horrible female doctor here once who was incredibly rude, misinformed on my dogs breed and had no advice for me when she misinformed me what the dog needed. I did some research after the visit and talked to another vet and discover that she indeed had no idea what she is talking about. HOWEVER, my pets have also seen a male doctor at this vet and he was absolutely wonderful, clear, and had great manners. So, the best I can do is 3 stars... I HAD been taking my three dogs here, but they have lost my business. My dog needed surgery, and when I called to inquire about it, I was told that a vet would call me back to discuss, and they even verified my callback number. What I got was an emailed quote and a rude sentence "there is no discount as we told you before". I replied to the email that there was no need to be rude and heard nothing. I expressed my disappointment on their Facebook page. No one contacted me to discuss my obvious unhappiness at being treated in this manner. I'm thinking there's good reason that their Facebook posts must be moderator approved first. Look, my pets are part of the family. Don't email me a generic quote like I'm having brakes done at the mechanic's. Come to think of it, even my mechanic treats me with more respect than these people do. It's a shame, really. They know my pup, his past history and are always prompt and available when I call about problems or bring him in for visits. They are reasonably priced and do everything possible to make sure my bully is happy and healthy! This vet is a place you can trust your pet is in good hands! I've been taking my cat to Dr. Rachel Hiatt since I adopted him and she's always been so nice and thorough! Recently my cat had seemed unlike himself and Dr. Hiatt got me in right away to get him checked out. She answers all your questions thoroughly and gives you her honest advice without making you feel rushed. You can really sense her passion for animals and it shows at this clinic! My dog Jody is a weim/beagle mix we adopted her from Glen Ellyn Animal Hospital 5 years ago and she is a wonderful dog and addition to our family. Only problem is that she has horrible allergies. GEAH has been great helping her. They did a blood allergy test and found out she is allergic to beef, chicken and oak trees. Its been about 6 months since we changed her food and she is doing great.Jody has been alittle lonely since we had to put our 15 year old terrier mix to sleep a few months ago. The staff at GEAH was very supportive and sent my family a card with thoughful messages that touched our hearts.The staff is a little busy and they do rush but I have never felt anything but kindness towards my pets. I took my kitty there a few times, after I made a complaint that i was spending a lot of money and getting no answers i was told that they don't know enough to treat her. I was talked to like nothing was wrong with my animal and like i was crazy. I told him that i was under the impression that they treated cats and not just dogs.After walking out into the waiting room it was announced by the staff at the desk that my cat was not to be seen at that vets office anymore. This was in front of everyone in the waiting room. I didn't really even know what was going on, i was just trying to get my cat healthy. I took her somewhere else and they knew what was wrong right away. Maybe they should target their business towards dogs. I've never felt so insulted. I am sure not everyone has had a bad experience at this vet, but I have. And my family has. And some family friends has. My parents demanded that I get my cat declawed, so I brought him there. He was mangled and treated very roughly. I saw them get him out of the cage with discontent and anger.
