DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!! On Tuesday May 16th we lost our family member fuma. Fuma was a young year and half old baby and we brought him here to be fixed which ultimately led to his death. Upon check in the nurses seemed nice and told us that fuma was in good hands which was a lie. Fuma was supposed to neutered here at the clinic and supposedly the surgery went well. Upon calling and checking in the nurses told his that he was doing fine until we were about to come get him they called and told us that he did not make it. The dr claimed he may have an underlying heart condition. The clinic DID NOT PERFORM ANY PREOP BLOOD WORK OR TESTS TO MAKE SURE FUMA COULD HANDLE THE SURGERY. When we asked why this wasn’t done they said that we denied preop blood work when signing the check in forms. HOWEVER, we were handed a computer and asked to sign the line with no further explanation on what these forms were. We weren’t even able to see what we were signing because they were on a computer with only a signature box present. When asked about this the Dr said that he will next time inform his staff to “do better” The Dr. Refused to send fumas body to get autopsied to find out cause of death and said there’s nothing else that can be done. He also said that fumas body jumped when giving the anesthesia and therefore result in him receiving less sedation which he said was perfectly fine. Our cat was like family and we trusted these people to take care of him and they killed him… Also, they never not one time called us after his surgery to inform us how he was doing. We called at 2:36pm and they said he was doing good and to pick him up around 4-430pm, but Instead called back at 2:55pm and told us he had passed away. I wish I would have read reviews before we had taken him here, 11 months ago they also killed someone’s pet. Read Less

We were fostering a feral kitten named Dudley that had been found limping on the streets in Chicago. X-rays from the shelter showed that he had a broken pelvis and broken femoral head on one leg. They told us he would need an FHO surgery to be adoptable and was in a lot of pain. After searching places in the Chicagoland area, no local vets would perform a FHO surgery and kept referring us to expensive emergency clinics and veterinary schools. I called these clinics and they gave me outrageous quotes. I felt like they were viewing me as a wallet and not as a person. I used to live in Harvard about 10 years ago , and had taken our dog and cats at the time to Harvard Veterinary Clinic and I remembered they did surgeries so I called them up to get a quote. Dr. Costello took the time to explain the surgery to me and answer all my questions about the procedure and recovery process. He gave me a reasonable quote and treated me like a person. It was a breath of fresh air! We scheduled Dudley's surgery and in the meantime started a campaign to raise money for his surgery. I asked Dr. Costello if we could have photos of the surgery and do a live video of the check-in so that Dudley's online supporters could see how they've helped him. He was very understanding and supportive and allowed us to do the video and provided us with great images of the surgery. Right after Dudley's surgery, he let me go back to see Dudley waking up and showed me the post-op x-rays. They kept Dudley overnight to monitor him to make sure he was doing well. The next day we picked up Dudley and Dr. Costello made sure to go over the medications and what we should expect during the weeks of Dudley's recovery. I mentioned how I had read some blogs about other cats' FHO surgery recoveries and how there were a lot of horror stories with opioid side effects. Dr. Costello told me not to worry, that he wasn't giving Dudley opioids, just NSAIDS to manage the pain. He took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns and even gave me his cell number in case I had any more questions or if anything happened. When Dudley got home, we were expecting the worst because of all the stories we read about other cats' FHO recoveries. But unlike other cats who've had this surgery, Dudley wanted to eat, drink, and play right away! On Day 2 he was already putting weight on the leg and walking around. Dr. Costello was spot on in the amount and type of pain medication Dudley needed. Now it's 8 days post-op and Dudley already wants to run around and jump. He is feeling so much better already! Sometimes painful things, teach us lessons we did not want to learn... In my case, it was trusting this place to actually care for my fur baby, which they did not even try to do whats so ever. It very obviously appears that painfully and carelessly ripping beloved and precious fur babies away from their worried and now heartbroken families, is all this place knows how to do!! It breaks my heart everyday knowing that it will/is going to happen to someone else and their fur baby. It disgusts me to know that somebody can have a mind, so selfish and uncaring, that can treat such loving and important companions, who are so dependent on someone to actually care for their needs, the way you all do. I hope living with the fact that you all are ruining so many families lives and breaking so many hearts apart, by leaving us all with the traumatizing last memory of the painful final passing to so many beloved fur babies, in such an awful way - haunts and rips you up inside forever. When a dog stares up at you, with their big brown eyes that show helplessness, and fear - do you have any guilt knowing you had been the only one who could have saved them from it all, but instead ended it by causing them to suffer until they couldn't take it anymore?! Those days may be over for you all and even in the past, but those days along with all of the painful last moments caused by you, will go on through our minds everyday. Read Less

My dog died last night. He went out hard. It was a painful, slow, gut wrenching process and it did not have to be. I had a 15 year old Maltese who had been sick for some time but he had been fighting. He was on meds but we knew eventually he would pass. The vets at this clinic said stay with it but at some point youll know that hell be at the end. That end came last night. Ill cut through the graphic details and give a quick summary. I called the emergency service for the clinic. I got the answering service gave them the details and requested the doctor call me back. I believed my dog was dying and he was going through pain. The doctor calls me back ---leaves me a sleepy voice message that he received my page and that he would call me back one more time. I think I can call him back directlyunfortunately no. Dr. Svobodawhen hes on call ---he blocks his number (No caller Id) so you cant call him back. I call the office againbecause he has not called me back. They tell me be sure to answer the phone this time. I wait again ---call back. The answering service tells me ---yes the Dr. has received the page---he stated that he has already spoken to you. He will not be returning your page. I state he never spoke to me maybe it was someone else. I ask is anyone else I can call---this animal is in serious pain. Answering service ---No---Dr. Svoboda is the only one on call. Ironically, I attempt to call another emergency service at another vet clinic---and I get the same lousy answering service with the same lousy customer service. My dog passed at 2:30am last night. He was whelping, crying and bleeding out when he passed and it didnt have to be. I wish Dr. Costello had been on call ---I probably would have gotten in. We have 3 other dogs we will no longer be taking to this clinic. Dear Clinic Owner ----who will probably respond to this review---rest assured your feeble response (as I have read your other defensive posts) will not dissuade me from escalating this complaint further---and I wanted you know. Get a new answering service---that actually like what they are doing and can provide real customer service. Get a better emergency protocol so in the event that Dr. Sleepy Svoboda is on call people can get to someone who can actually help and not be lied to--- Might want to read this again----Veterinarian's Oath--- Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare, the prevention and relief of animal suffering, the conservation of animal resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge. I will practice my profession conscientiously, with dignity, and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics. These two Veterinarians do not know just how important pets ARE to some families.. We took our baby boy here April 28th, we had woken up to him being very sick, puking, wouldn't eat.. They ran some tests and said it was a UTI, Pancreatitis and Diabetes, they also said that it was an issue that he would have had for some time building up.. Even though we were JUST THERE 13 days earlier for his check up with a blood test and all, and they said he was healthy!! So they said he had to stay on an IV over night (reading now he was suppose to be on an IV + a liquid diet for 3-4 days.) We called them for updates, and they said he wouldn't eat for them, (with pancreatitis NOTHING is suppose to be given by mouth!!) which we also found out after the fact. So after we paid our $1,000 bill on the spot they sent our baby boy home with us April 29th worse then ever, still not eating. They said he had stopped puking yet the second we got home he puked, we called them and they said that was fine and to make him eat, so as time went on, (still not eating) he got worse.. We kept calling and they told us to do EVERYTHING you are NOT suppose to do when a Dog has pancreatitis, including giving him his pills by the mouth.. Sunday May 1st came and they were closed, our baby boy was struggling to breathe so we called them, we got an answering service saying they refused to come in on our emergency until 4 HOURS LATER, and instead they told us to go to a different Vet 30+ minutes away instead of them who is 3 minutes away. And OF COURSE our baby could not make it that long and died in my Sisters arms at only 7 years young. 4 hours later they called us, TOTALLY UNCARING and said they knew he was going to die in the first place when they sent him home with us, yet the first day we took him there they said it was NOT life threatening and he was going to be alright?!? Seriously?! A few days later the other vet called us, telling my sister "We have life's too." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I really hope you two are reading this right now so I can tell you how much you ruined our lifes, I know it won't matter at all to you two but our baby boy was our everything and you both did not do everything you could to save him AT ALL.. He was only 7 years young and he had plenty of life to still live with us.. His 8th birthday came June 4th and we could not watch him unwrap his gifts or play with his toys. We really trusted you two to take care of his life, (our everything) and you totally let him and us down.. All we have left now is an empty collar and broken hearts. So no thanks to the Harvard Vet Clinic for acting like the $1,000 we paid you and our Dog totally did not matter, because if it wasn't for you two.... Our Dog WOULD STILL BE HERE.Read Less

The doctors at the Harvard Vet Clinic are fantastic! After joining the Navy my Grandparents were taking care of my cat until I got to my final duty station. We decided due to his age that he should stay with them since he enjoys the stress free life. Keeping in touch with my Grandma she was always really grateful for all of their assistance and how they explained things to her (since she never owned a cat before). During one of my visits home I noticed a growth in his mouth. Grandma took him strait away to the vet and they removed the growth (which thankfully was nothing serious). I knew while I was gone that my boy was taken care of by everyone at the clinic. Thank you for taking care of my boy while I was gone. I never had to worry and I can't tell you what a relief that is. I always remember what Dr Chuck did for my little Bailey the Babycat. It was too late to save him but Dr. Chuck didn't string me along and told me what I needed to hear about Bailey.

I had the best experience with the vet & his staff. My dog is a handful and a normal trip to the vet is tiredsome. I explained this to the staff and they took their time with him and when the Vet came in to examine him he talked to me like a normal person. He explained things on my level and made sure I understood. And the best part of it was there was no stress! I will definitely be bringing all my pets here from now on. Thank you ! Read Less

They have been my primary provider for 8 years. There is no one and I mean no one I trust to take care of my dogs more than Dr. Svoboda and Costello. They legitimately care about their clients and will bend over backwards to care for your animals. What I respect most is that they combine cutting edge veterinary medicine with good old fashioned common sense. They are all about making a difference in the lives of your animals, not just in running up a large tab. There are few as good and none better than the docs at Harvard Veterinary Clinic Read Less
