Banfield Pet Hospital in Kildeer plays a significant role in the lives of local pet owners. Each Kildeer pet requires a healthcare partner who understands the behavior patterns of local households and their pets. Please, consider other places! I took my dog, explaining that he was having bloody diarrhea and vomits, along with being lethargic. They only asked for a stool sample to test for Giardia. I explained that my dog isn’t exposed to that and that this was not normal in him and that something was wrong. They sent me home with pills for stopping the diarrhea and a shot for stopping the vomits. No further testing. I asked, and asked and asked. They said to go back if in five days it didn’t stop. They said the blood was normal because of irritation. No diagnosis, no explanation. I explained that nothing had changed in his diet or habits. Before leaving he pooped water and blood. I asked them to see the amount of blood, no one helped me and they said to wait 5 days. Thank God I didnt listen. He ended up having several tests in a different place and was urgently referred to the ER after finding pancreatitis and a BLOAT. He ended up with emergency surgery in the ER, where he spent 3 days. He could have died if I didn’t rush and followed their original instructions. A bloat is a crisis, an emergency. My dog could have died because of this. On top of everything, he had been there recently for his semiannual check up in which they said that he was in great health.... he had also had a tumor in one of his testicles, found and removed also in the ER. Every time I had asked questions in the past about my dog’s health it was never a straight answer. Cutting the plan and never going back. Read Less

I just had an appointment with Dr. Johnson at the Banfield Kildeer office and couldn't be happier. I have a pure bred Belgian Malinois (bred to work) that has seen other doctors (a female Dr most of the time) since she was 10 weeks old at a different Banfield closer to my business. The first time a male Dr came in at the other location, she growled for the first time at a human and she was only 4 months old. I was shocked. She loved meeting new people - even vets. I knew what she was bred to do but hadn't put her through any of that training. It was just the other doctor's approach. (Later my dog was fine with him after a little coaching. He too is a very good and skilled doctor.) Otherwise, you never saw a dog so happy to go to a vet and she had to go several times in her first year for nonstandard and painful issues. I know the frustrations people have when taking their animal to a vet and wondering if the illness/injury will be quickly and efficiently treated - even though the animal can't 'verbally' add any input. "So, when did you start feeling this way?" I don't envy veterinarians. I worked for the American Medical Association for 12 years and know physicians who treat humans can run into the same problem and their patients CAN talk to them. The MD hears the complaint, makes the best decision as to treatment, drugs or other therapy, and if that doesn't work, the MD tries another approach or drug (unless there are ample funds and insurance to cover exhaustive tests). So I was a little nervous about taking her to Dr. Johnson after not seeing him in 6 years, especially after reading some of the reviews here. Well, he was great! My new 1 yr-old Belgian was a little nervous during our short wait (we got their early) but when Dr. Johnson came in all of that melted away. At the end of his day he came in all smiles and didn't focus on my dog right away. Fantastic! A vet with a straight face walking into an exam room with a nervous dog and making eye contact with it right away and getting down to business instead of greeting the human owner first is a big mistake - anywhere in any situation. Dr. Johnson knows dogs. The visit was pleasant, the staff very courteous and efficient and Doc Johnson has acquired 2 new friends. As for the Banfield Wellness program, it saves their customers significant dollars on the normal dog issues: vaccinations, office visits, and tests. It is not insurance for treatment beyond the what is stated in their plan. Good to see you again Dr Johnson. you have a new customer. To those reading this far, i dont work for Banfield, its owner or any affiliated company. Read Less
