I went here to get my dog neutered after finding that they accepted a neutering certificate I had purchased online to help with the cost of the neuter. The staff was nice enough and seemed upfront to begin with that there would be extra charges for anesthetic, fluids, etc.. I agreed without hesitation because I wanted to ensure my dog was as safe and comfortable as possible. The total was more than I had expected at close to $300 not counting the neuter which was covered by the certificate that I had already paid $75 for. It was after the surgery that things took a turn for the worst. First of all when I dropped my dog of they informed me that the surgery was not guaranteed if I didn't leave my dog there overnight. I assumed someone would be with him to monitor him overnight but I called later to find that she was headed out the door at 6pm. The next morning I picked my dog up and when I got home and checked the incision there were no stitches to be found, his incision was completely open. I go back and they look and say "he must have ripped the stitches out". So they throw him back on the table and use metal sutures this time to staple him back up. Then I'm told I need to fork over another $80 for antibiotics and meds so he doesn't get an infection. The part I find hard to believe is that my dog was alone all night without a cone and didn't touch the incision from 6pm to 10am the next day when I picked him up, but in a 10 minute car ride he immediately pulled the stitches out? Something doesn't add up. I only wish I had checked the incision before I left. At any rate, his entire incision area became extremely swollen and infected and every time I called with concerns they told me it would be fine. A few weeks later he finally healed but it was a nightmare of an experience and I will never be back there. My low cost neuter ended up costing close to $500. They clearly care more about money than the animals they are caring for. Read Less

Took my standard poodle there for a simple spay. They said she had to stay overnight. (Why?) I picked her up the next morning and she was soaked in dry blood on one side of her body! Staff was very dismissive. I was horrified. She was completely out of it for TWO DAYS. If I had, had the money to sue him I would have. STAY AWAY! Read Less

I'm so confused as to why only the 1 star reviews seem to be the recommended reviews, they have 21 5 star reviews that are not recommended and that is a shame bc this is a great practice!! I recently took in my grandparents 2 dogs and needed a local vet. I called and spoke with Jennifer, who was so informative and kind over the phone, but even better in person! Dr Steve and Jennifer were wonderful, informative, personable, and kind! We will be patients here for life. Others complained about prices, but I found them VERY reasonable, especially on half price Friday. I especially liked Jen the vet tech, but Dr Steve is wonderful, too!! My only complaint, which is minor, is the girl who works the front desk (Lindsey maybe?) is not very friendly, and actually comes across quite bitchy and annoyed that she is working... kind of a shame bc the rest of the office is so friendly. Perhaps she was having a bad day, we all have them, but she's the first and last person customers will see. As a small business owner, I know the importance of this, and hope my first impression of her is wrong! Other than that, it was a great experience and I was pleased with the appointment.  $330 for TWO dogs to have a full exam, and all vaccinations, including a 3 year rabies tag for both. The next morning I called Jen with some concerns about their reactions to the shots, and she was so sweet, understanding and knowledgeable. I'm really pleased with them over all. I only leave reviews, good or bad, when they are merited. In this case, I have to give LZAH 5 stars because they acted in the best interest of my dog, Bella. I had been taking Bella to PetCo/Smart to get her vaccinations. At one point, I got a call from them saying Bella had Lymes; I needed to see a regular vet. So, I read reviews and went to Dr. Pritkin's practice. At first, I was underwhelmed. However, in reflection, that's his approach and charm. He is very knowledgeable, common sense and down to the earth. There is no pretense. When he saw Bella, he gave me all the options. Due to cost, I settled on his reco of pulse therapy with antibiotics, versus retesting and multiple tests. Fast forward a year later, at regular vaccination time, he suggested we test for Lymes again as a gauge, plus all the other vaccinations that were due - which, by the way, his half priced Fridays can't be beat! The next day, Saturday after Thanksgiving, when he could have been sleeping in, he called my cell early and cheerfully gave me the news, that Bella, in fact, did not test positive for Lymes. Don't EVER take your pet here! We took our puppy to get spayed. When we picked her up, she was covered in pee and poop. Her bottom was raw.  After cleaning her with baby wipes, we found that the smell was coming from her badly infected incision. She had lost 5 lbs. They kept her overnight with no one there the whole night. When asked if they had taken her out to go potty, they responded they take them out once in the morning and once at night.  They told us to get a cone at a pet store, so she wouldn't lick her incision. When asked if they put one on her there. They said no she was watch and didn't need.  Who was watching when no one was overnight?!? Horrible place!!! NOT WORTH ANY STARS!!! I have been taking our dog there for 8 years now and just had him vaccinated last week. Dr. Pritkin is very knowledgeable and takes his time to hear any concerns, answering all questions we might have. I know I can trust him. Love this vet! My favorite part is that it looks just like a house outside and inside, so my dog is never afraid to come here like other vets! He walks right in tail wagging and happy as can be. I also love that they have an online pet portal where you can see what your pets are due for and when, get reminders and alerts, schedule appointments and more right online! I am so thankful to have gone to this veterinarian. My cat was not eating and had blood in stool and vomit. My kids and I took our cat to this vet to discuss our options. turns out our beloved princess had a fist size cancer mass in her abdomen. He helped us make a difficult and humane decision. I could not believe his empathy and compassion towards us as we stayed with princess until the end. I have had animals my entire life and have dealt with many vets over the years.  I am profoundly disappointed in the level of service and professionalism from this vet (Dr. Steve).  I took my dog in, that was a patient there (until now), with a wound that couldn't be sealed and was only held together with liquid band aid, to get him to the vet.  He is old and had a benign growth (if you care).  The doctor then said I don't have time to do this right so I'll try to cauterize the wound.   I'm like ok.  I assumed he really believed he could get this done.  He performs the procedure and at best, almost gets the dog to stop bleeding.  They bandage it up and I pay and leave.  ~$400.  The bandage they applied didn't stay on across the parking lot and the dog was bleeding lightly by the time I got him in the car.  You may ask why did I leave?  Three reasons:  The bandage wasn't that big of a deal (just a sign of incompetence or maybe just not caring), it was Saturday and I had to get back home to help my wife with the kids and thirdly I figured if it didn't "take" the doctor would make it right.  But......instead of doing the right thing, and fixing what he was already paid to fix at a reasonable price, (I would have been ok with a steep discount) he said "well I can do what I should have done the fist time and put him under and remove the growth.....it'll cost about $400 dollars"....are you kidding me?  I had an identical procedure done on the same dog at the EMERGENCY clinic for less than this guy charged (~$350 if you care) for non emergency service that didn't even fix my dog and then he had the gall to say we should pay full price for it again.  His solution of letting his incompetent rear end do it again for a nice double charge is ludicrous.  If I am going $800 into this I'm at least taking him back to the people who do it right the first time, for less money.   Absolutely horrible, no other service provider could get away with this garbage and stay in business.  Overpriced, unreasonable and incompetent!!!! First of all I wanna start off by saying that I have a loving and friendly American Pitbull terrier, but he was treated as if he was a threat.(typical stereotype but if you are running a clinic you should know that it's all BS) I came to this vet about 4 years ago for shots on "50% off Friday". I remember my visit being very short and I felt as if I was a bother to them. And after 4 years I decided to give it another shot a couple months ago. (I did not find time to write review earlier but no way was I going to forget) I figured it was a one time thing and I thought it'd be better this time around. Not to mention that I live less than 5 minutes away. As soon as I walked in I was greeted promptly by the technician as the receptionist almost seems like she is mute who I immediately recognized from my last visit, which the only time she directed a word towards me was when she gave the total to pay. This time I felt like the longer I was there the more I felt out of place, I literally felt like an asshole after taking my dog there. They would constantly walk around him as if he was gonna bite them, from the receptionist to the tech to the damn vet. When I told them that he  was not going to bite them, the vet said "well we don't know that". I understand precautions but I HIGHLY DOUBT that they are like that to every dog. (just because the vet looks like a child molest, which he does, does not mean I'm gonna assume that he is one) They told me to grab his head so they could give him his shots and I did but I guess I wasn't holding him strong enough because I was basically moved out of the way by the tech because she felt it wasn't strong enough, and she firmly grabbed my dog, which was not necessary and he started to growl because even he, like me, was like wtf. ( this happened after they were already thinking he was gonna bite, so imagine what his growling did to them) I kind of went off on this review but IF YOU LOVE AND CARE ABOUT YOUR PET, DO NOT RISK GOING HERE.  DO NOT TAKE YOUR PITBULL HERE(and I'm sure they like this part of the review) They discriminate and they are ignorant and I felt the same as other reviews. They are overpriced even on "half price Friday" but at the end of the day it was never about the money, good care that's all that matter but shitty care at expensive prices is a big NO. I had a scheduled appointment for my other dog but I canceled as soon as I got home. I've been to clinics before where people VOLUNTEER, and even they are not like that AT ALL. I have been to this vet a couple of times as my just got puppy fell sick, I found that everything was overpriced. I am also not sure the injections he administered on my pet ever worked. Every visit I went there was around 400 dollars and then I decided to find another animal hospital in lake Zurich and found things reasonable there. Read Less

I'm surprised to see so many bad reviews.  We've never had any issues taking our cats here.  The front desk staff are always friendly and helpful and Dr. Pritkin has always listened and take good care of our pets.  The only reason for short one star is that I had to go somewhere else to get my cat laser declawed rather than traditional declaw. I've never been too happy with this vet. After we would get over charged for things from my old dog that in which they put down.My dad insisted we keep the same vet for our new pup and she's a shih tzu poodle mix about 8 years old now and has lots of ear problems due to her breed, seems like no matter what happens we always get the same service and over priced medicine and no results from this vet.
