I wanted to post a review because I recently noticed a post that someone wrote that really upset me. We moved to marengo 2 years ago and needed a vet for our 2 dogs. Upon calling marengo animal hospital it was evident to me that the staff was very friendly and so I scheduled the appointment. On the day of the appointment as we entered the clinic I was very taken back by the warm welcome we received. Our dogs were very happy with the attention they received also. We left the clinic after our visit and felt like we definitely made the correct decision to have our pets seen there. The vets are very professional and very informative on any concerns you may have. Last year in April we were faced with a difficult decision that nobody wants to face. We had to put our 13 year old chocolate lab to sleep as he had been having strokes and on this day it was the final stroke that affected his nervous system. No more could be done for him! When we arrived at the clinic that day we were put in a exam room immediately and the vet was in to exam our dog. He explained everything to us and for the next hour was very attentive to what we had to experience, his assistant and him both stayed with us during the most difficult time, they showed compassion and sincere sympathy for us. Great place. Prices are excellent and the people are even better. Took our cat in. During the examination the scratched the vet really good. The vet took it in stride despite bleeding, and the entire staff cared for my pet even though it was scared and hard to deal with. They really care about their patients! Read Less

Dr. Tom and Dr. John are the best vets that I have ever met (and I have been to many).  Their expertise is top notch.  They also put the best interests of the animals first.  It is incredibly comforting to know that you can trust their advice and recommendations without getting a sales pitch for unnecessary and expensive procedures.  The staff is wonderful and they have gone out of their way to help me on many occasions.  I cannot recommend this place enough. we spent hundreds of dollars with them, i am on disability and limited money and asked if it were possible to have put 2 cats down that were supposedly only $50 each and i can give them my card to take funds from in three weeks...i had started a charity previously and make crafts to support my charity for this specific reason because veterinarians i understand need to make money etc but a denial in this case is just sad, yet makes me glad i am doing what i am doing but i won't use any funding from the charitable portion of my businessn (due to legal issues)...but there are people in need and it's $100, it's bad enough some people cant afford the proper care which i am hoping to end that for as many as i can but animals continue to suffer...luckily i did find another loving and caring veterinarian to help in such a desperate situation and considering the amount of money we spent previously and had PAID IN FULL THE SAME DAY, i found this to be truly cold hearted and when your pets are like your children it's literally a door slammed in your face and you feel helpless...things happen to families and my cats i have had for 14 and 15yrs and because one time i was short funds makes you feel like a complete failure..hopefully i can prevent others from EVER going through this and feeling this way. We will no longer be going there unfortunately. When you can't work with someone over $100 is very sad, i can see if it were a few hundred...but $100 and they just needed to allow 3 weeks...i was hospitalized for several weeks due to surgeries and bills got behind etc...yes on a fixed income it does get hard at times...but i have cared for my babies for years and it's not their fault but you still feel like a failure and it's the worst feeling ever. very disappointing and sad situation. I have known the Doctors at Marengo Animal Hospital for a long time maybe since 1980, they helped breeders, pet owners, and show exhibitors by educating them on hereditary problems, diets for the individual dogs, and excellent surgeries at a reasonable price. They truly went out of their way to help the owners care for their companions with the time they spent with them. Always honest in their opinions. Read Less

I don't write reviews often but after reading Lisa L's. review I had to reply.In regards to Lisa's post.The people who work here are friendly and very polite. As for your daughts claims that the "staff in back were laughing at here" I highly doubt that was the case. It is more likely that someone in back was laughing about something unrelated and your daughter just attributed it to them laughing at here. I say this because you always hear laughter in this office so unless they laugh at every customer I'm going to be your daughter was being overly sensitive. As for them supposedly not trimming the nails and then charging for a checkup. Did you ever consider that mistakes happen and that had your daughter brought it to the staffs attention that she didn't ask for these services that they would have fixed the issue for her? It sounds like your daughter was quick to take offense and instead of resolving the issue with the staff, like an adult, decided to come here to lash out online.On a separate note I have been going to this vet for 12+ years. I've taken all of our family pets there and have always had excellent service. The pets don't leave stressed out. The staff is attentive and helpful and Dr. Tom is a wonderful person to work with. Last time I was in I had to get two 1 year supplies of heartworm meds. They let me know that the manufacturer had raised their prices but that since they had bought a ton of stock beforehand their customers got to enjoy the old lower price! They didn't have to do that. They could have bought low priced stock and sold it at the new price but they don't do that because they look out for their customers and their pets.Don't let Lisa's retalitory review turn you off. This is a great veterinary clinic and you will receive excellent service. Read Less

I haven't been back to this vet for a long time...reason being they are so expensive it's not worth the trip.  For an office visit with shots it averages $150!  I can get the same thing for a quarter of the price in Woodstock!  They need to revisit their pricing, there is no problem with making a profit but comeon...that's nuts!
