Terrible animal hospital. I regret bringing my pet here. I don’t recommend this place. They gave me my pet almost dead. Didn’t mention anything other than “she is just sensitive to noise” which was causing her to shake. They suggested continued treatment at my vet. My poor cat DIED in my car after she was picked up. Imagine your cat meowing, shaking and drooling from her mouth as you’re driving to your vet for “continued treatment.” Read Less

Can't understand some of the negative reviews really. We've taken our pets here several times over the years and they have saved us each and every time. Maybe some people have unrealistic expectations, I don't know, but the quality of care is wonderful and cost is very reasonable for an emergency vet clinic. Very caring and compassionate, we're very grateful to have them nearby. Read Less

One star and that’s GENEROUS. The staff there was SO rude, impersonal, and non welcoming. I left in tears out of worry for my dog and in complete stress due to the bill. They charged me for things then told me the price after the fact. I then called afterwards to inform them of some progress my dog made upon arriving home with some follow up questions... and STILL so rude. In the waiting room I was FUMING contemplating on how to even begin to address the staff/Vet. When taking your dog in for an EMERGENCY you want SOMEONE to have some empathy and to feel some sort of comfort. Overall, I was not happy even in the slightest. Their bad attitude, inability to communicate and just rude atmosphere ABSOLUTELY means I will never go back. They got their $500 for an X-ray... Read Less

Quite possibly the best emergency vet clinic I have ever been to. I took my beloved Bullmastiff there on a Sunday and I knew she was dying. They were kind and gentle with her and very nice and sympathetic towards me. A few days later, I received a card offering their condolences, and two stamped paw prints. I cried because it was the most loving gesture I could imagine from strangers who did not know her but knew she was so loved. Thank you for your kindness during a sad time. Read Less

We had to take our dog in on a Sunday afternoon after he had 2 seizures. The Mokena Animal Emergency was amazing. They examined our dog right away, kept us informed, and Dr Thomas was extremely knowledgable and patient with us. We had several questions which she took the time to answer and she gave us a breakdown of the bill so that we could make the best decision for our family. Our dog ended up staying over night and had more seizures while there. They called us and explained what they did for him. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. I highly recommend this hospital. I have been going here for at least 6 years. My visit on last Thursday really made me think twice.  Apparently I didn't remember a buzzer so stood outside for 5 minutes then went to car and wait a few more before calling.  Note this is all on video but they just swept that away that I was a restaurant patron whom happened to have a dog on a leash and tried pulling door.  So I get in and there is blood on the floor from the night before I guess.  (I was the first customer at 7pm).  Which I guess dogs cannot get blood contamination, or so I was told.  The veterinarian seemed a bit nervous when she asked me to move my dogs head straight.  I am not sure but again that was swept away as scared dogs attack.  She said they could do x-rays but weren't sure what was going on,  my dog was coughing, not drinking a lot like normal, and her nipples were tender.  She was most likely in pseudo pregnancy.  She has never had pups, of course they didn't believe this.  She has also never been around a male dog that is intact.  (pretty sure I would know if my baby ever had pups since I am the only parent she knows).  She didn't know what the cough was for and didn't mention chest x-rays.  So i either heard x-ray for her stomach or assumed because she stated she didn't know about the cough.  I declined getting the x-rays from here due to those factors.  If you are afraid of pit bulls then you shouldn't be treating them.  My little one is the gentlest dog and she wasn't showing any signs of aggression.  So I paid $94 for a temperature to be taken and a stethoscope.  Since the video that was reviewed was dismissed with excuses all I can do is dispute my charge. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I have brought a cat of mine to Animal Emergency of Mokena in the last 5-10 years.  Tonight I brought my 18 yr old cat who is being treated for kidney failure and early pancreatitis.  I was looking for professional advice as to why my cat is not eating and if blood work would help understand more about my cat's medical condition.  Dr. Gary S. and the other 2 staff members were very compassionate towards my cat and me.  Dr Gary was very kind.  He listened to me, looked over recent blood work reports I brought with me and explained his impression of my cat's medical concerns at this time.  Dr. Gary asked me if I wanted them to give my cat subcutaneous fluids, under my cat's skin.  Being a health professional I chose to have the fluids given to my cat..  He didn't suggest andy blood work at this time.  I appreciate that Dr. Gary didn't do unnecessary tests or procedures on my cat.   I highly recommend Animal Emergency of Mokena.  I would bring my pet to them again, if necessary.  Driving to their facility was easy(with GPS), as I don't live close to Mokena.  Parking was plentiful during my night time visit. I had to use the Animal Emergency of Mokena clinic last week for our cat.  We had rushed him to our regular vet earlier in the week when he lost the use of his back legs.  Our vet told us he had congestive heart failure kept him on oxygen overnight and started him on heart medication.  We brought him home the next day but he got progressively worse all week.  We were hoping he could make it until we could get to our regular vet, but you know how things happen.  It was Friday night just after 10:00 pm and our cat went into heart failure again.  I had spoken to our vet about the Animal Emergency clinic earlier in the week "just in case".  We did not want our cat to suffer overnight and so we called the clinic and they told us to come right in.  It was the first time we had used this clinic but I would not hesitate to return in the future.  All of our interactions with the vet and the staff here were professional.  They were very understanding and compassionate.  Dr. Gary Soumar explained what he was doing and did not rush us.We are very fortunate to have a business like this in our area that operates the hours that they do and and performs the emergency services they do.  Thank you so much to the staff at Animal Emergency of Mokena for your compassionate assistance in our time of grief. I called the emergency clinic because for a half an hour my dog had been coughing horribly. I had thought it was kennel cough because he recently got the vaccination and I thought that could be why. It was getting worse and I was getting worried. After a while I decided to call. When I called they answered the phone and were so nice and told me information about kennel cough, reassurance, tips on how I could help him stop coughing (something as simple as taking him into the night air! And it worked!), and signs to look for which meant it was worsening and should probably take him in. They were so helpful over the phone and it was much appreciated, especially considering they are about an hour away but the closest place to us. I had rushed my cat to animal emergency of Mokena on Christmas eve after working all day, i had come home to change and go to my aunts house for the holiday, that was the plan until i noticed my cat Shelby breathing weird actually struggling to breathe so i brought her there since it was the closes place to my house that was open.. i got there, they took her back right away and got her checked out , the actual vet was very kind he took the time to explain everything to me and told me she had lung cancer (which was heart breaking)  and told me my options. He even talked to my mother on the phone .He was very compassionate and I could tell he is very good at his job.The other staff members were not very pleasant i will say. one of them really looked like she didn't want to be there at all which i get who wants to be working on Christmas eve but you work at an emergency vet, where people are bringing their sick animals, you need to have a poker face.. i ran into an issue when I was about to pay i didn't have enough money. I had asked the vet before they had done anything with my cat if they bill he said no that they did not and i told him i did not have much money because like most i went broke for the holidays and did not expect my cat to be sick.. she was fine a week ago. and he still proceeded to check out my animal.. well when i was about to check out the front desk woman goes ok its gonna be $300. how was it $300 anyways my cat sat in a oxygen cage for maybe 15 mins and they took one xray and gave her 1 steroid shot ... i was honest and told them I didn't have that much, i even called my mom and sister to see if they could help me out with the bill but were unable to due to money issues as well . and i told them i only had $100 dollars on me and i could bring the rest on Friday when i get paid, and that was literally the rest of my money . The front desk woman and assistant were not happy about that and were not discreet about their feelings either. my sister (who was also at work) had called to talk to someone about a possible payment plan and the older front desk woman cut her off in the middle of a sentence and was VERY rude and handed me my phone back . The same  woman had went in the back to talk to the vet, and came back out with a MAJOR attitude and said well we will take $100 and you need to leave. i was shocked that this woman spoke to me this way, she made me feel embarressed more than I already was. Then the vet came out after he probably heard the way this woman spoke to me and said $100 is fine just take care of her and make her as comfortable as possible and said i could bring her back if i needed to (again the vet was wonderful, only reason i would recommend this place to someone!). So i took my cat and i went home. shelby made it through the night and was still hanging on, but i could not watch her struggle to breathe anymore so in the morning i had to borrow money from a friend and brought her to a vet in Crestwood (premiere vet) and had to make the hardest decision to put her down! They were fantastic there! they didnt even charge me the emergency fee! and the whole staff makes you feel like family there they all were hugging my brother and i and i really walked out of there feeling like they actually cared. As for animal emergency of mokena I will be back to pay the rest of my bill but i will not return if i have an animal emergency! AGAIN I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW WONDERFUL THE VET WAS! the rest of the staff not so great. Read Less

I hope I never have to go back to this place. That being said, they are on top of their game. I sadly had to come with a friend a few years ago, so it's always been on my radar for a "just in case" moment. I came back with my mom a few weekends ago when her dog was drenched in blood. We thought it may have been coming out of her butt, so we were really worried and raced here in the middle of a snowstorm. You would expect a place that's used to dealing with emergencies to be friendly and warm and of course, they were. They got us in right away and didn't seem phased by the fact that there was now dog blood all over their floor. The doctor came in and asked about symptoms, how she normally behaves, etc and then took her in the back to sedate her and run some tests. The whole process was a big blur because my mom and I were both very upset but they handled it so well. It turns out that Bella just had some kind of wound on her back leg that burst open and was dripping in blood. The doctor was very compassionate and also detailed in explaining after care and follow up instructions. I hope that no one reading this review ever has to use their services, but if you do have some sort of animal emergency, you will be in good care here. Read Less

I'd like to start off saying that I'm not a bitter or spiteful person, but I was treated really poorly at this clinic by one of the employees.I just returned from here and everything was really nice, especially the vet! But one of the employees embarrassed me over something that was at best a misunderstanding... Before I brought my dog in, I called to ask questions regarding payments because I didn't have enough, and one of the employees explained to me a "care credit" card they offer. It's definitely possible that I misunderstood (I thought it meant I could pay in small increments), but I HONESTLY can swear that I asked what the minimum amount is that I'd have to pay up front, and they said something along the lines of "virtually nothing". I don't remember the exact words, but I wouldn't have brought my dog in from 30 minutes away if I wasn't positive I didn't need money. After being treated really well by the vet, when I was checking out and explained to a different employee my understanding of the payment, she was so rude and disrespectful. She told me that what I said "didn't happen". I told her I would never make that up, and she said that my story of being on the phone with someone who told me I didn't have to pay tonight wasn't true. Now I COMPLETELY understand a misunderstanding...although I think the employee on the phone may have given me the wrong info, regardless of who misunderstood I would NEVER be mean about it. But this employee implied that I was lying to her and made me feel like a mooch. I could pick up on her tone of voice as could anyone, and I felt so humiliated that I started crying. I'm upset that I spent my money there (I was able transfer money and paid them every single penny before leaving).Even after I left, when I was getting into my car and happened to look through their window, I saw the same employee talking to her peers while looking back at me, and obviously that could mean nothing, but it was one of those situations where you feel like someone's going to talk about you as soon as you leave. This made me want to storm back in there and tell her exactly what was on my mind. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because of how nice the veterinarian was. I think people should be aware of this before they go because I sure wish I saved myself $112 for being made felt like a fool. Read Less

If I could give this place ten stars, I would.  First, who ever thinks they have to make use of an emergency vet?  I at least knew about this place, but if you are checking and this is your first experience, they are the best ever.  Our pug was having a breathing crisis, and techs Sandy and Eric, and the Vet, Dr Renae went beyond the call of duty in our opinion.  I went home thinking we would have to put our dog down, to picking her up in the morning happy and healthy. The vet was so knowledgeable, and talked us through everything.  We got it and knew what the possible outcomes were. I know not all emergencies end well (we actually had our 16 yr old golden pass away there) but in this case, I could not have asked for better angels than those three...esp Sandy who I think had more of my dogs hair and slobber on her and was still smiling and caring for her.  If you need to go here for an emergency, you are in good hands. The cost of emergency is not cheap, but worth every penny if you animal is as cared for as ours was.  Thank you. The Emergency Vet is a place I'd rather not be. But, our dog had an emergency on a Sunday night. We came here because it was the referral place on our primary vet's voice mail.We had to wait, but not for too long. Like a people ER, how long you wait depends on who else is there and the nature of the emergency. The doctor professional and nice, very pragmatic and nice to my dog. She gave us a couple of options and was patient while I processed all the info and she answered my questions. We ended up going home with strong pain meds to get us thru to the next morning when we could get to a specialist to help us. The office is very clean.I called my primary vet the next morning, and Animal Emergency had already sent them 411 on our visit. Nice follow-up.

Read Less

Thank you. We came here because it was the referral place on our primary vet's voice mail.We had to wait, but not for too long.
