I had been taking my cat to Dr. Lavitt since I got him as a 6 month-old kitten (per a recommendation from a neighbor) and he always gave great veterinary care. I also loved that Dr. Lavitt had cats in the office, because they were always very friendly & social whenever we came in. I'm sad that he retired, but I just brought my now 17 year-old cat in for a checkup with Dr. Roush and he did an excellent job. He really took the time to go over my cat's history, do a physical exam and lab work. He spent over an hour with us and we were able to get the lab results at the end of the visit, so we could discuss a treatment plan. Dr. Lavitt is the most caring and knowledgeable veterinarian out there.  He can diagnose an issue and solve a problem that may take others many visits to determine.  We have been taking our dogs to him for nearly 20 years and have been so grateful for his care.  His assistant Teri is wonderful as well.  She loves all the "patients" that come in and is always trying hard to accommodate schedules.Recently we thought our 11 year old Dalmatian was near the end.  She was moving very slow, hardly eating and often yelping in pain.  We took her to Dr. Lavitt and he found she had a liver issue.  After treatments with meds her appetite was back and she was no longer yelping.  Her liver count was back in normal range.   I also discussed with him that she no longer had fur on her tail.  He informed me that it was from hypothyroid, and that was also a big part of why she didn't have much energy.   She is now on a thyroid medicine and it's as if we have our former dog back!  The fur on her tail has completely grown back and she has tons of energy.  She now wants to go on long walks with our other dog as she trots through the neighborhood!  Thank you Dr. Lavitt!! I cannot say enough about how great my experience was at Lavitt Animal Hospital. Dr. Lavitt is kind, gentle, and freely offers recommendation without any pressure. I went in for a regular, if not overdue, check-up for my 2 year old cat and the appointment was great. Dr. Lavitt took his time with my cat, even put a little pheromone on the table to calm him. My cat needed 2 regular shots that I was aware he was due for and Dr. Lavitt administered them so well that I'm not sure my cat even knew he got them! The office is small, but cozy - It's in an old home, but it is clean and I actually enjoyed the less "institutional" feel of the place. I highly highly recommend taking your pets to Lavitt. If you're looking for a vet that takes their time, offers their full attention during your appointment, and does not try and sell you on unnecessary products, foods, or tests - this is the one. He is very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions and offered some information and things to look out for. In addition, Terri the vet tech is phenomenal as well! Came here yesterday to have my 6 year old French Brittany neutered. Dr. Lavitt performed a thorough exam, making sure to ask about any problems or concerns, then carefully outlined the steps of the neutering process. He was incredibly kind and gentle towards my nervous dog. The procedure went well and while a little loopy afterwards, he's back to his happy self this morning. I can't say enough positive things about Dr.Lavitt and his staff. I have been taking my two cats and two dogs to him for some time and can't imagine having anyone else treating them. I have a pretty aggressive pitbull and Dr.Lavitt is wonderful with him. Not only is he up front about his thought process in diagnosing my pets but I can see he genuinely cares about animals. I have seen bad vets, I have seen vets that just want to make money, and then there is Dr.Lavitt. He is pretty rare and that's why I feel very lucky to have found him. Dr. Lavitt has been taking care of our Yorkie, Beam, since his birth. In addition to routine immunizations and minor treatments, Dr. Lavitt has performed a major surgery: hip joint reconstruction. Beam now walks and runs without any pain. I could not be more pleased with the outcome. Dr. Lavitt's hospital has this old-time Norman Rockwell charm to it but the care is first rate. I have 2 dogs, a King Charles as well as a Chihuahua and Dr LaVitt has done an outstanding job treating and recomending treatments for my dogs. I have used other vets for my previous dogs, but through a recomendation of a friend, I took my King Charles to him to be spayed. From then I I was hooked by how kind and patient he was with my dogs. On every visit, he spends quality time withme and my daughters answering any and all of our questions. He is truely an animal lover and cares so much. After both of my dogs spay treatment as well as when one of my dogs was treated for eating chocalate, he called after each treament to make sure the dogs were doing well. I discovered that we are getting the best personal care for our pets at the Lavitt Animal Hospital! A close friend of mine was very surprised that Dr. Lavitt personally performs all of the procedures that are required for every animal patient. She told me that many of the procedures performed on her pets are done by a vet. technician. I am so grateful for the personal attention, the great concern and the vast knowledge that Dr. Lavitt has and that he always takes a lot of time and care when examining my pets and doing routine procedures on them. For example, he personally drains our dog's glands, examines her thoroughly and gently, and takes time to ask me if I have any questions for him. Since Dr. Lavitt has been our family vet for 25 years, I took all this for granted. But now, I am so grateful that our pets are always examined and cared for by a real vet.! Also, when we have had a pet emergency, Dr. Lavitt has always made time to respond instantly and compassionately to our needs. For example, once our dog got out of our yard because a repairman left our gate open. I alerted the neighbors and 15 people were searching for our dog. One neighbor saw our dog get "clipped" by a car on Golf Rd. She fell down but got up again and returned home. I was frantic! I called Dr. Lavitt! He examined her within minutes. I can never express my gratitude for his help at a time like this. So, I am very happy to say that I will never take the outstanding care we get from Dr. Lavitt for granted again! Read Less

The outward appearance of the facility appears unkept and in disrepair. The doors were smudged, the floors looked as though it has not been swept or mopped in over a month, and for a facilty that services our furry pals.... that is a significant amount of fur and dust. The secretary is rude, unprofessional and seemed incompetant at her secretarial duties. When I asked about potential complications of the routine spaying my puppy was going in for, she answered in a defensive way. "Like What?" I received no satisfactory answer. She then asked me to sign a waiver in case of death from the anesthesia. She also would've let me walk out of the office without my puppy's post op medications. Lucky for me that I knew through my research of the procedure I should have at least recieved pain medication. In addition, I also asked for documentation of my dog's up to date vaccination record. She handed me an incomplete record because she was too lazy to read the small print of the fax from the petstore's records. Lucky for me I knew for a fact my dog received the kennel cough vaccine or she would have let me walk out with an incomplete vaccination record which I needed in order to get city dog tags. Dr. Lavitt seemed friendly enough, but I was not satisfied with his health assessment of my puppy prior to her procedure. He didn't even look over the vaccination record to ensure that it was up to date. The previous vet we saw had a digital scale to measure my puppy's weight exactly. Dr. Lavitt used a bathroom scale. He did a cursory check up of heart, lungs and bowels, but didn't look at her eyes, nose, ears, etc. The last vet I went to, I felt she did a more thourough checkup. When I picked her up, she smelled awful! As though she had been kept in a cage that had not been cleaned after its last occupant. He also didn't dispense much information regarding what I could expect from the procedure. I had no idea what follow up care to do. I was so worried about my dog when I took her home. I had to look up what to expect online and called Animal 911 to make sure what was happening to my dog was normal. Overall, I don't trust Dr. Lavitt at all. Read Less
