Our mission is to provide the highest quality in veterinary medical care in a friendly, relaxed setting. Our appointments are longer than the average in the veterinary business. That's because we want to take the time to get to know your pet and give him or her an individualized and thorough health care plan.
Although our focus is on dogs and cats, we are unique because we see many species of pets. On any given day you may see a parrot, an iguana, a rabbit, or a hedgehog in one of our exam rooms.
Our services include general medicine and surgery (including laser surgery), wellness care and vaccinations, exotic animal and avian medicine and surgery, geriatric medicine, dentistry, radiography (general and dental), acupuncture, therapeutic cold laser treatments, and laboratory services.
We bought Vernon Hills Animal Hospital in 1985. We both shared the same vision for our veterinary practice, and a main component of this was having the freedom to spend enough time in the exam room to be thorough.
No, we don't need one hour appointments for our patients, but we make sure we take whatever time we need to get the job done. And since we're privately owned and not owned by a corporation, we don't have quotas to fill, and we don't pressure our clients to sign up for yearly plans or vaccinations and procedures their pets don't need.

I’ve been coming here for almost 20 years and love the staff there, from the receptionists to the technicians to the vets. My dog is high maintenance (a miniature pinscher- big personality in a small body!) and requires a patient team and VHAH has been that and beyond! I must recognize Dr. Eve Cheung for her excellent work with my dog and I appreciate her ongoing concerns for Moe. They reach out to me and check in on Moe during his ailments. I also think it’s important to mention I’m deaf and all of the staff are willing to accommodate my needs! Love this place!!

My family has been using Vernon Hills Animal Hospital for over 17 years. They have seen and takin care of many of my pets over the years and now even have the next generation ,my daughters dog. Sadly lately we had to put a few animals to sleep and their compassion has been unbelievable. Dr. McCullough always takes her time and explains what is needed and gives information and tells stories about her animals and other animals to make you feel comfortable.

I highly recommend Vernon Hills Animal Hospital. I brought my cat, Toby, in this morning with what appeared to be a life-threatening emergency. Dr. Barten and the techs did an incredible job and approached the situation in a strategic manner, uncovering and treating the cause of the issue. I appreciated the doctor taking the time to thoroughly explain everything to me both in the office and over the phone. He took Toby's case seriously and was very attentive. Everyone at the front desk is extremely nice as well. I have had poor experiences with animal hospitals in the past, but I am so impressed with Vernon Hills Animal Hospital and am forever grateful for the care they gave Toby today!

Getting in to see the doctor and get the actual services was a little hard because they were heavily booked which means they must be really good. We took our previous dog they're mainly because they are literally 2 minutes from the house.

The great service starts from the moment you call to make an appointment. The receptionists' are all incredibly kind and attentive. My busy schedule has me always having to ask schedulers to check many different openings, VHAH staff never grows impatient. Upon entering there is a large waiting room that is kept unbelievably organized with tennis balls and towels. On our last visit me and my lil Bruno (Boston Terrier Mix) went to get his shots and check a small growth near his eye. We met with Kristi and Dr. Cheung, they were both amazing. You immediately feel like you are in the right hands. The staff works together to make appointments quick and easy.

I have been going to VH Animal Hospital for decades. I can't imagine taking my pets anywhere else. The staff and Veterinarians are knowledgeable, friendly and more than willing to accommodate you and your pets. I recently had my 13 year old dog's teeth cleaned; I was very leery of the procedure because of her age but Dr. Sneed was very reassuring, answered all my questions and concerns. It worked out well and her breath is about 200% better! I highly recommend VHAH!

I would definitely recommend this vet for your reptile care! We brought in our son's pet snake as it was acting lethargic. We had noticed a change in his daily habits. The Dr & staff took excellent care of his pet Albino California King Snake. The Dr noticed blood excretions in his two musk glands. They measured his weight for antibiotic dosage & taught us how to give him shots, every 3 days, at home. We have a follow up appointment scheduled for 3 weeks to check his progress.

They offer free wellness check for new patients, and I realized why after my first visit - they are just so good that once you've tried them, you'll rather pay more or drive longer to stay with them. The receptionists are very nice and considerate, the doctor and nurses are responsible, knowledgeable, and have a loving heart, they care and notice small things of your pet. What's more, they never recommend unnecessary checkups, which is a rare quality for many vets in this area.

Dr Stephen Barten does an excellent job taking care of our kitties. I would highly recommend him if you are looking for a seasoned veteran you can trust with your pets.
The front desk receptionist Sondra could benefit from a few courses in customer service. If you are one day late on your annual vet visit she threatens to revoke prescription food for your animals and is quite rude about it. The other people I have interacted with in the front are generally happy and positive.

I have been coming to Vernon Hill Animal Hospital since my dog Riley was a puppy. Two weeks ago when I picking Riley up from a bath at the groomer I was told that Riley probably had an ear infection since yukky stuff was in one ear. I called VHAH and Riley was seen immediately. Dr. Sneed checked his ear, cleaned out all kinds of stuff then proceeded to check what the yukky stuff was under the microscope in order to know exactly what to give Riley to get rid of the infection. We were there for a recheck today and I'm happy to say all gone yuk. Thank you Dr. Sneed.

The staff here is amazing. They took such good care of Ellenore for 12 years and then took care of me when it was time to say goodbye. They even said a very thoughtful personal card with her paw print. The doctors will return calls and emails at night or on the weekends. My other dog Oliver loves it here! He gets very excited because everyone pets him and gives him pupperoni. You are treated like family here. I have moved away from Mundelein and still make the drive back so that my pets can have the best treatment possible.

Really nice staff and excellent doctors! I am very happy I switched to Vernon Hills Animal Hospital. I began bringing my box turtle to Dr. Barten a few years ago and next the bunnies to see Dr. Cheung. They really take the time to explain everything including care and feeding. It's a little drive for us but well worth it.

I have been going to VH Animal Hospital for decades. I can't imagine taking my pets anywhere else. The staff and Veterinarians are knowledgeable, friendly and more than willing to accommodate you and your pets. I recently had my 13 year old dog's teeth cleaned; I was very leery of the procedure because of her age but Dr. Sneed was very reassuring, answered all my questions and concerns. It worked out well and her breath is about 200% better! I highly recommend VHAH!

First time with our 10 week old puppy yesterday. From the time we walked in the door I knew we chose the right place to take our new family member. Amazing and kind staff plus Dr. Cheung took her time speaking with me and interacting with our puppy! Never felt rushed and felt like we had met before. Amazing!

I would definitely recommend this vet for your reptile care! We brought in our son's pet snake as it was acting lethargic. We had noticed a change in his daily habits. The Dr & staff took excellent care of his pet Albino California King Snake. The Dr noticed blood excretions in his two musk glands. They measured his weight for antibiotic dosage & taught us how to give him shots, every 3 days, at home. We have a follow up appointment scheduled for 3 weeks to check his progress.

This place is amazing. The staff is a s courteous and helpful as can be. The techs are really gently and compassionate about there work and handling youre pet. All the work and procedures are fully explained and all of youre questions are answered. The Dr's are great and knowledgeable and do great surgery and adtercare. I have already reccomended people to go there and will continue. If there was ten stars they would recieve it.

They offer free wellness check for new patients, and I realized why after my first visit - they are just so good that once you've tried them, you'll rather pay more or drive longer to stay with them. The receptionists are very nice and considerate, the doctor and nurses are responsible, knowledgeable, and have a loving heart, they care and notice small things of your pet. What's more, they never recommend unnecessary checkups, which is a rare quality for many vets in this area.

Dr Stephen Barten does an excellent job taking care of our kitties. I would highly recommend him if you are looking for a seasoned veteran you can trust with your pets.
The front desk receptionist Sondra could benefit from a few courses in customer service. If you are one day late on your annual vet visit she threatens to revoke prescription food for your animals and is quite rude about it. The other people I have interacted with in the front are generally happy and positive.

I have been coming to Vernon Hill Animal Hospital since my dog Riley was a puppy. Two weeks ago when I picking Riley up from a bath at the groomer I was told that Riley probably had an ear infection since yukky stuff was in one ear. I called VHAH and Riley was seen immediately. Dr. Sneed checked his ear, cleaned out all kinds of stuff then proceeded to check what the yukky stuff was under the microscope in order to know exactly what to give Riley to get rid of the infection. We were there for a recheck today and I'm happy to say all gone yuk. Thank you Dr. Sneed.

The staff here is amazing. They took such good care of Ellenore for 12 years and then took care of me when it was time to say goodbye. They even said a very thoughtful personal card with her paw print. The doctors will return calls and emails at night or on the weekends. My other dog Oliver loves it here! He gets very excited because everyone pets him and gives him pupperoni. You are treated like family here. I have moved away from Mundelein and still make the drive back so that my pets can have the best treatment possible.

The best care for my furry family members! Great staff! Been going to them over 24 years. Their approach to caring for your pet and working with pet parents is amazing. Right now we have a senior dog at the beginning of the end of her life's journey. Such compassion from staff to ensure quality of life for my 14 year old dog and help me get a plan in place as this plays out. Thank you!

Really nice staff and excellent doctors! I am very happy I switched to Vernon Hills Animal Hospital. I began bringing my box turtle to Dr. Barten a few years ago and next the bunnies to see Dr. Cheung. They really take the time to explain everything including care and feeding. It's a little drive for us but well worth it.
