General Info
We are a four doctor, American Animal Hospital accredited full service veterinary hospital. We see dogs, cats, birds, small mammals and other exotic pets. Our pet bird practice is nationally recognized. In addition, we provide care for wildlife, working closely with licensed wildlife rehabilitators and animal control officers. We are also work with pet rescue/ humane organizations providing veterinary care. Dr. Peter S. Sakas is the hospital director. He is a noted author having written numerous articles on pet care, written a text on pet bird medicinefor AAHA and contributed to others. He frequently lectures to veterinarians and veterinary technicians, veterinary colleges, bird clubs, pet bird seminars, various animal related groups, local schools and other organizations.

Niles Animal Hospital is located inside a modest building that employs 7 of veterinarians lead by illinois' top Vet., Dr Peter Sakas who specializes in Exotic Animals and speaks and teaches other Vets throughout the country

We had our first vet visit at Niles this weekend and it was great. We live almost 4 hours away but the drive was worth it. I would advise anyone with a bird to go to Niles. The staff was very friendly and they know what they are doing!!! If you have a bird take them to Niles if you want the best care for your companion!!!

Great Hospital, you know your pet will be in good hands. Doctors are from the area, nicest people you will meet. I learned about Niles Animal Hospital right after I adopted my dog as a rescue in 2017. This hospital works with John Garrido, a Chicago Police officer who personally finds home for rescued dogs in Chicago. This hospital is welcoming of these lost or neglected dogs. When we first brought our new rescued puppy in, that was our first time at this hospital. We were treated like we’ve been clients with them for years. They have the nicest, most knowledgeable doctors, and friendliest staff. I would highly recommend Niles Animal Hospital.

This place was great! I went in with an emergency for my bird, whom was very sick. They saw her right away and gave me options. She passed away while I was sitting there holding her, broke my heart. The staff was so compassionate and caring. They have me options as to how I wanted to handle her little remains, soooo kind. They allowed me to stay as long as I needed. I highly recommend them.

They do go out there way to help you out the best they can and what I live most is they remember my dogs name I take my dog and turtle.. They take all types of pets and are very hands on.. Small parking lot tho but still a good place

I was so pleased with the staff, and especially the vet Dr. Sakas. This guy did a fantastic exam on my bird and he knew so much of his stuff. He spent the time telling me what I can do with my bird. Such a kind wonderful man. So far I have told five people about this place. It was a long drive for me, but it was well worth it. My bird is doing so much better now thanks to him. The price was so reasonable

Dr. Sakas has been my avian vet for over 30 years. I am so thankful that we have him here! From my experiences, he is the very best! Another wonderful asset is that he has a full lab on the premises. So lab work doesn't have to be sent out and no time waiting for complete answers as that could mean the difference between life & death. Also, Dr. Sakas is kind, patient, explains everything in detail and is empathetic. His staff is wonderful too!

The staff and all the doctors are extremely caring , compassionate and they are very passionate about what they do. Very happy I found this place for my guinea pigs .The doctor took the time to call me and follow up with me on one of my guinea pigs who was very sick .We spoke on the phone and it was very comforting. Good, caring people who love animals. Great place.

We decided to bring our Bare Eyed cockatoo to see Dr Sakas after reading the many positive reviews on Facebook and Yelp. We found him to be very friendly and knowledgeable. He had no trouble handling our bird despite him being agitated from the drive. His staff was very nice too. We could hear them sweet talking him while he was in back. He explained all the test results in detail and his prices are reasonable. We'll be bringing our birds here from now on.

This is the best animal hospital in the northern Illinois area and the only place I take my birds and turtle to. They will run exhaustive testing on my birds and not just guess and medicate-which ran me a bill in thousands and then killed my bird at another "bird" vet. They will also see dogs and cats. It is a drive from my home-but well worth it for the knowledgeable staff and excellent care for my pets which are my family too.

We bring our Senegal parrot Boo to see Dr. Sakas, and he's just wonderful! Thorough, informative, kind- Boo doesn't mind vet visits at ALL, and we love Dr. Sakas! He always takes time to chat, answer any and all questions in a detailed, easy to understand fashion, and I wouldn't take Lil' Boo anywhere else. We came from Taiwan hoping to find a doctor to diagnose what happens to my male lovebird Papa who often has problems with his feet and balance, and screams when that happens, which has always been heart broken to see. I didn't have the bird with me of course but I showed the people there videos. They were very kind and friendly which meant a lot to me. I had no luck with vets in Taiwan for Papa and I had searched for so long for help because Papa is a very gentle and sweet bird, and I love him so much. I am always very pleased with my visits to your practice. Recently, I brought in my two new parakeets for check ups and brought along a list of questions as well. All of my inquiries were answered and my birds were given a clean bill of health. I will continue to bring them in annually so that they can enjoy the best quality of health possible! The staff was very friendly and they know what they are doing!!! If you have a bird take them to Niles if you want the best care for your companion!!!

This place was great! I went in with an emergency for my bird, whom was very sick. They saw her right away and gave me options. She passed away while I was sitting there holding her, broke my heart. The staff was so compassionate and caring. They have me options as to how I wanted to handle her little remains, soooo kind. They allowed me to stay as long as I needed. I highly recommend them.

I was so pleased with the staff, and especially the vet Dr. Sakas. This guy did a fantastic exam on my bird and he knew so much of his stuff. He spent the time telling me what I can do with my bird. Such a kind wonderful man. So far I have told five people about this place. It was a long drive for me, but it was well worth it. My bird is doing so much better now thanks to him. The price was so reasonable

So lab work doesn't have to be sent out and no time waiting for complete answers as that could mean the difference between life & death. Also, Dr. Sakas is kind, patient, explains everything in detail and is empathetic. His staff is wonderful too!

We decided to bring our Bare Eyed cockatoo to see Dr Sakas after reading the many positive reviews on Facebook and Yelp. We found him to be very friendly and knowledgeable. He had no trouble handling our bird despite him being agitated from the drive. His staff was very nice too. We could hear them sweet talking him while he was in back. It is a drive from my home-but well worth it for the knowledgeable staff and excellent care for my pets which are my family too.
