I learned about Niles Animal Hospital right after I adopted my dog as a rescue in 2017. This hospital works with John Garrido, a Chicago Police officer who personally finds home for rescued dogs in Chicago. This hospital is welcoming of these lost or neglected dogs. When we first brought our new rescued puppy in, that was our first time at this hospital. We were treated like we’ve been clients with them for years. Very good avian doctors! Brought my rescued African Grey that wasn't doing well to Dr. Sakas and he was the first vet to diagnose him with Aspergillosis. Treated him and he is as good as new now. Saved his life when other avian vets were not able to identify his problem. Highly recommend! Read Less

This place was great! I went in with an emergency for my bird, whom was very sick. They saw her right away and gave me options. She passed away while I was sitting there holding her, broke my heart. The staff was so compassionate and caring. They have me options as to how I wanted to handle her little remains, soooo kind. They allowed me to stay as long as I needed. I highly recommend them. I was so pleased with the staff, and especially the vet Dr. Sakas. This guy did a fantastic exam on my bird and he knew so much of his stuff. He spent the time telling me what I can do with my bird. Dr. Sakas has been my avian vet for over 30 years. I am so thankful that we have him here! From my experiences, he is the very best! Another wonderful asset is that he has a full lab on the premises. So lab work doesn't have to be sent out and no time waiting for complete answers as that could mean the difference between life & death. Good avian doctors are very hard to find; I know because i have been to 3 different ones and they simply lacked the expertise with my bird. I absolutely love Niles! I drive an hour each way to bring my pups to see Dr. Yang. She is always so compassionate and caring with my big boys! She even pretends to not mind the slobbery kisses she gets when Kato jumps up. My dogs have never been as comfortable at a vet clinic as they are at Niles. They play and are goofy and then just lay down and relax. They used to be hyper vigilant and stressed at other clinics, now they know they're in a safe place! Read Less

We decided to bring our Bare Eyed cockatoo to see Dr Sakas after reading the many positive reviews on Facebook and Yelp. We found him to be very friendly and knowledgeable. He had no trouble handling our bird despite him being agitated from the drive. His staff was very nice too. We could hear them sweet talking him while he was in back. This is the best animal hospital in the northern Illinois area and the only place I take my birds and turtle to. They will run exhaustive testing on my birds and not just guess and medicate-which ran me a bill in thousands and then killed my bird at another "bird" vet. They will also see dogs and cats. We came from Taiwan hoping to find a doctor to diagnose what happens to my male lovebird Papa who often has problems with his feet and balance, and screams when that happens, which has always been heart broken to see. I didn't have the bird with me of course but I showed the people there videos. They were very kind and friendly which meant a lot to me. This establishment is absolutely phenomenal. Very long story short, my chinchilla had a pretty gruesome injury to her leg that required surgery from a different vet. Upon daily bandage changes and checkups, that vet told me my baby would need another surgery and the possibility of her leg being amputated was very high. I decided to come here for a 2nd opinion and Dr. Kalivoda assured me that my chinchilla could recover from this injury without any further surgeries. It took t...ime and daily visits, but they were able to restore my girl to her former self. Though it was expensive, they provided me laser treatments and bandage changes for less than $50 each time, where the other vet was charging over $100.
