This location as well as the Touhy location we’re responsible for the death of my dog Sherry. Contact me and I will tell you step by step the story. Banfield should not exist. Everyone there was extremely rude. Even in this kind of situation. They even deducted $700 from the $3,000 the pharmaceutical company gave for my dog to go to a hospital when it was their fault. Then they called the police at me and loads of squad cars came after I yelled at them for what they were doing. They acted like they were the victims. Do yourself a favor and just take a gun and shoot your animal in the head instead of taking them to such a disgusting place with no morals. You think the workers are happy working in such a crappy place like Banfield? They use a program on the computer to diagnose and treat your pet. Please listen to me and take your pet to a real vet, it will be cheaper for you as well. Once again, contact me to find out more info if you want to know what exactly happened. It will shock you and disgust you. I hope nothing but the worst for the employees that did this. I pray every night for the worst for them. I will never get over the loss of Sherry, my beloved dog. I want nothing more than to put to sleep every single member of their staff. They deserve to suffer for what they did. You think it’s a privilege being a vet and working at Banfield? The staff at this Banfield are very mindful and accomodating. They ask if youve been taken care of. When you book appointments, there is no 2 or 3 week wait like other Banfields. For the most part, my experience here has been good. I previously used to go to Banfield Niles and the people that work in the front desk were kind of rude. I was picking something up and the lady at the front (who was not on the phone) was staring at her computer screen. Of course she may have been busy doing something which is totally understandable but she did not even acknowledge me until 5 minutes later. I was standing in front of her and she did not look up once. It took me 2 to 3 weeks to book appointments when my dog had a non so urgent issue but still needed to be seen within the week. It wasn't enough to warrant a visit to Blue Pearl. Read Less

Our dog has been going to the same office for the last 12 years, in one of the recent visits they prescribed a strong cough medicine with narcotics. After the medicine was stopped she apparently was addicted and went thru a bad case of withdrawal. The doctors at Banfield not knowing what’s the reason for her problem suggested to put her to sleep. In the week that we were debating to do this she showed slight signs of improvement, when we contacted Banfield they still insisted to put her to sleep. Amazingly our dog recovered in the next few days and proved the vets at Banfield totally wrong. I don’t know where they go to school, apparently they have no knowledge of what they practice. If you love your pet don't bring them to Banfield! Got a call from an uncertified vet tech that said my dog almost died while under anesthesia and were not able to clean the teeth. An uncertified vet tech was in charge of the whole procedure said the teeth never got cleaned but was told to still pay the bill for services that were not rendered. They took me to collections. Just got off the phone with the practice manager Rachel in Northbrook she said the state of IL does not require certified vet techs and she was zero help !! I am looking for a lawyer for ruining my credit rating. I also called 7 on your side today because people should be aware of how Banfield operates! It is a total racquet and have not heard one positive thing about them from anyone. I would rate them zero! One star rating is way to generous!! Read Less

Jason is a jerk, heard him say to a customer, "you did not pay the full amount, this will go to collections tonight in sacastic way. He asked me the weight, I said, don't you do that? He said no, put him on the scale. Slimy place! They are jerks that seem to just up-sell you on everything, The wellness program, just say no! They had a brochure about pet insurance the first time, I asked and they said, we took those away as they were not Banfield but a private company. Use petbucket and tractor supply company (Google) and save big $$$$ Read Less

1) Horrendous staffing and scheduling problems at this location. You are lucky to get the same staff or Dr twice. Even worse, half the time they do not have enough staff on hand to honor the days appointments and it is not out of the ordinary for them to cancel on you repeatedly due to no staff. In fact they just cancelled on me for the fourth time in a row I might add, for the same appointment, a simple dental cleaning. How am I to know that whatever new date we set, they will be able to honor what I pay them monthly to do? A complete waste of my time and money. I like the monthly payment plan approach, LOVE the drop off convenience, but have lost all confidence in this location's ability to effectively provide consistent quality care for my pets. I would love to know how many customers the place across the street gets from people defecting from Banfield.2) Misses the big picture, treats symptoms but fails to address the cause. Recently one of my pets should have been given a cone to wear after a treatment, she was not, and we ended right back in the doctor's office as a result of not having that cone. Visit #2, $100 later and still no cone offered. I told the staff, "I think if you had coned her last time we would have been able to avoid this second visit and saved me $100." The staff completely agreed with me as she processed my payment. Still no offer of a cone. I asked, "Are you not going to give me a cone this time?" Staff replied, "None of the cones we have are small enough, but PetSmart has cones available for purchase." Oh really?! I asked "In what aisle may I find that?" Staff replied "I don't know but a PetSmart staff person should be able to help you find it." 3) Fails to recognize and take advantage of opportunities to optimize the combination of their joint business model Banfield/PetSmartWhen you see obvious opportunities like that and fail to address them - First not providing a cone when you should have, second not having a cone size that will work, third not being able to offer a one stop shop solution, fourth not being able to direct me with a secondary solution. It should be part of your care solution in the first place. For a business in the pet care sector that is simply unforgivable. It shows the exact opposite, that you do not care. Read Less

They are supposedly my dogs veterinarians.  When my one got sick over the weekend, I brought him in to see the veterinarian.  They promptly informed me that they have no time for him (I didn't have an appt - you don't choose when your dog gets sick!) and they don't take walk ins.  Sorry, last time I checked I can't tell my dog when it's ok to be ill.  They said I can book an appointment tomorrow. Made an appointment for a check up to find that they "ran out" of the immunization my pup needed. Had to come back the following week. Made another appointment. Arrived to be told the doctor was still in surgery and I'd have to come back two hours later. When I asked if someone could've called in advance I was told I just found out when I called back there. When I asked about the ordering of immunizations for appointments made in advance (like a Seinfeld episode for taking reservations and holding reservations), the tech said, "well yours isn't the only dog we see, you know". I don't need to waste my time going three times to a place to get what I need, nor do I need a snarky tech treating me like that. Makes me wonder even more about what they do and don't know about dogs if they can't even treat humans with a touch of decency Read Less

I had a very good experience here. I felt the doctor really cared about my dog and showed sincere concern. There is a lot of transparency into what various procedures will cost, which may give some people the impression that's their focus, but I did not see it like that. I really thought they were being very clear and allowed me to make informed choices based on the recommended treatments. This became even more clear because my dog had an issue that alarmed the doctor, and she referred me immediately to an emergency vet that was more suited to what my dog required. She told me she would sleep much better, if I went immediately, even though I was initially taking a "wait and see" attitude. Not only was the doctor, right-on, about the urgency, but she could have billed me for a much higher number, if she didn't get me out the door to someone else for what was needed. They gave up a lot of money to help my dog, and they earned my trust and future business. Read Less

I don't know if something changed or they got the right people in place, but I had an excellent experience at Banfield, and I am a cynical jerk.  I was waiting for the upsell and it never came.  Here's a quick assessment: Trix (cat) lost some weight, and since we just moved to Northbrook from San Diego, we had no vet and frankly, we didn't realize how much weight she had lost.  She used to be fat, so we thought we were doing her a solid, but little did we know her thyroid was in overdrive.  Oops!So my wife is overly worried as usual, and she had a good experience with Betsy on the phone.  Ok good start - happy wife, happy life.  I spoke with Betsy briefly while checking in - very nice, busy, and helpful.  Good.Then I met Dr. Singh.  Chief of Staff.  Surely, SURELY, this is where I get taken to the cleaners.  My back is against the wall, my wife is worried and they will smell blood, my cat is looking a little scraggly, I am feeling guilt (should I have realized sooner?!?).  I am ripe for the plucking here.  No.Dr. Singh walked me through what tests and why, the costs, and she did the most important thing: she listened.  I was the last appointment of the night, so pretty much they should have been ushering me out of there, but no, she was patient.  She walked me over to the cat food in Petsmart too, because I wanted to get a higher fat content food.The next day she called me with the partial results.  We went over them and then she called me again the next day with the remainder of the results.  Everything was explained in plain language.  Then she explained the treatment and the plan.  Then she listened again, while I rambled (again).So let's review: fast, polite, listening, caring vet for less than half the cost of what another vet wanted.  I think the older reviews on here might have been from when there were different people in charge(?).  That's my best guess, but I'd recommend Dr. Singh and company without hesitation. Will never go here again. Had to at the last minute because our vet was booked. They take the pet in the back room for part of the exam and administering shots. Then they told me my dogs tooth had to be extracted and then all the teeth needed cleaning. My real vet indicated that is not the case. It was all marketing and plus ups, buy this, get that. I told them one of my dogs has reactions to shots. But hey gave the three years rabies to the wrong dog. Total hot mess. Read Less

This is the closest location near me and I like the friendly staff. However I'm more hesitant to bring my pets to this location after Dr. Hansen left. My previous visits to this location last year left one of my cats super doppy for 2 days after a usual checkup. This never happened before. My other cat was diagnosed with a heart-murmur condition that was never properly explained. The dark lady doctor didn't take the time to explain to me over the phone what is a heart-murmur, the cause, and the affects of having the condition. Instead she was eager to give me a referral number to another doctor right away.  Also my cat has a small bump on his side but he is fine and happy. The same lady doctor examined him and immediately suggested more referral numbers that we can call to have a lab take samples of his bump. Why should I cut him open just to feed that curiosity when he's fine? So this is why I've been considering other locations. Does anyone have any pet hospital suggestions? Read Less

My dog has yet to turn two but has now gone through two Vets at this location. I liked both of the previous Vets and only learned when picking my dog up from a comprehensive physical exam that they currently are looking for a new permanent Vet and had another filling in.I have never had a problem with the employees here but have previously had issues with extreme wait times. For this appointment I did the drop off and received a call several hours later asking if I wanted to pay extra for a test to check for an ear infection due to ear wax build up. I told them this is something that she has always had a problem with and that past tests have all been negative, however they said they thought I should do the test, so I did. The test was negative. They also offered to do a thorough cleaning with another charge. I normally clean her ears weekly but am never able to get everything out so I figured I would have the professionals do it even though the price was ridiculous. I was under the impression she would be ready for pickup around 3:30pm and I had called around that time and was told they would call me back when she was ready, but by 5:30pm or so I hadn't heard anything so I called them and they told me she was already ready.Once I had gotten her home I took a look at her ears and they seemed pink and she did not like me touching them. The next day I look at them again and one of her ears has several scabs and seemed to be painful for her. This has never happened in all of the times I have cleaned her ears and in the times that I have taken her to a groomer. Read Less

9 months ago I changed Vets to Banfield, because we were going to be transferred to a rabies free country. I assumed that a big National Vet like this would know all about a transnational pet transfer. Well NO. Because of Banfield my cat could not travel with us, had to stay two additional months in the US. I had to fly in to pick her up...$$$$$ Many dollars later and all the heartache, they cancel my last appointment...(a required 24 hours before departure check up) which was reserved 2 months ago... because they changed schedules....!!! Stay at your local vet! These guys end up charging you more, and there is no personal care!!! They KNOW less than your local vet. Read Less

The staff at this Banfield are very mindful and accomodating. They ask if youve been taken care of. When you book appointments, there is no 2 or 3 week wait like other Banfields. I had a very good experience here. I felt the doctor really cared about my dog and showed sincere concern. There is a lot of transparency into what various procedures will cost, which may give some people the impression that's their focus, but I did not see it like that. I really thought they were being very clear and allowed me to make informed choices based on the recommended treatments. This became even more clear because my dog had an issue that alarmed the doctor, and she referred me immediately to an emergency vet that was more suited to what my dog required. She told me she would sleep much better, if I went immediately, even though I was initially taking a "wait and see" attitude. Not only was the doctor, right-on, about the urgency, but she could have billed me for a much higher number, if she didn't get me out the door to someone else for what was needed. They gave up a lot of money to help my dog, and they earned my trust and future business. Read Less

I don't know if something changed or they got the right people in place, but I had an excellent experience at Banfield, and I am a cynical jerk.  I was waiting for the upsell and it never came.  Here's a quick assessment: Trix (cat) lost some weight, and since we just moved to Northbrook from San Diego, we had no vet and frankly, we didn't realize how much weight she had lost.  She used to be fat, so we thought we were doing her a solid, but little did we know her thyroid was in overdrive.  Oops!So my wife is overly worried as usual, and she had a good experience with Betsy on the phone.  Ok good start - happy wife, happy life.  I spoke with Betsy briefly while checking in - very nice, busy, and helpful.  Good.Then I met Dr. Singh.  Chief of Staff.  Surely, SURELY, this is where I get taken to the cleaners.  My back is against the wall, my wife is worried and they will smell blood, my cat is looking a little scraggly, I am feeling guilt (should I have realized sooner?!?).  I am ripe for the plucking here.  No.Dr. Singh walked me through what tests and why, the costs, and she did the most important thing: she listened.  I was the last appointment of the night, so pretty much they should have been ushering me out of there, but no, she was patient.  She walked me over to the cat food in Petsmart too, because I wanted to get a higher fat content food.The next day she called me with the partial results.  We went over them and then she called me again the next day with the remainder of the results.  Everything was explained in plain language.  Then she explained the treatment and the plan.  Then she listened again, while I rambled (again).So let's review: fast, polite, listening, caring vet for less than half the cost of what another vet wanted.  I think the older reviews on here might have been from when there were different people in charge(?).  That's my best guess, but I'd recommend Dr. Singh and company without hesitation. Will never go here again. Had to at the last minute because our vet was booked. They take the pet in the back room for part of the exam and administering shots. Then they told me my dogs tooth had to be extracted and then all the teeth needed cleaning. My real vet indicated that is not the case. It was all marketing and plus ups, buy this, get that. I told them one of my dogs has reactions to shots. But hey gave the three years rabies to the wrong dog. Total hot mess. Read Less

This is the closest location near me and I like the friendly staff. However I'm more hesitant to bring my pets to this location after Dr. Hansen left. My previous visits to this location last year left one of my cats super doppy for 2 days after a usual checkup. This never happened before. My other cat was diagnosed with a heart-murmur condition that was never properly explained. The dark lady doctor didn't take the time to explain to me over the phone what is a heart-murmur, the cause, and the affects of having the condition. Instead she was eager to give me a referral number to another doctor right away.  Also my cat has a small bump on his side but he is fine and happy. The same lady doctor examined him and immediately suggested more referral numbers that we can call to have a lab take samples of his bump. Why should I cut him open just to feed that curiosity when he's fine? So this is why I've been considering other locations. Does anyone have any pet hospital suggestions? Read Less

My dog has yet to turn two but has now gone through two Vets at this location. I liked both of the previous Vets and only learned when picking my dog up from a comprehensive physical exam that they currently are looking for a new permanent Vet and had another filling in.I have never had a problem with the employees here but have previously had issues with extreme wait times. For this appointment I did the drop off and received a call several hours later asking if I wanted to pay extra for a test to check for an ear infection due to ear wax build up. I told them this is something that she has always had a problem with and that past tests have all been negative, however they said they thought I should do the test, so I did. The test was negative. They also offered to do a thorough cleaning with another charge. I normally clean her ears weekly but am never able to get everything out so I figured I would have the professionals do it even though the price was ridiculous. I was under the impression she would be ready for pickup around 3:30pm and I had called around that time and was told they would call me back when she was ready, but by 5:30pm or so I hadn't heard anything so I called them and they told me she was already ready.Once I had gotten her home I took a look at her ears and they seemed pink and she did not like me touching them. The next day I look at them again and one of her ears has several scabs and seemed to be painful for her. This has never happened in all of the times I have cleaned her ears and in the times that I have taken her to a groomer. Read Less

9 months ago I changed Vets to Banfield, because we were going to be transferred to a rabies free country. I assumed that a big National Vet like this would know all about a transnational pet transfer. Well NO. Because of Banfield my cat could not travel with us, had to stay two additional months in the US. I had to fly in to pick her up...$$$$$ Many dollars later and all the heartache, they cancel my last appointment...(a required 24 hours before departure check up) which was reserved 2 months ago... because they changed schedules....!!! Stay at your local vet! These guys end up charging you more, and there is no personal care!!! They KNOW less than your local vet. Read Less
