This place is HORRIBLE!!! NEVER EVER GO there. I had a dog taken by one of my adopters there. I called before and said send the bill to me. After they adopter took the dog there, the vet refused to tell them what was wrong - just said it was going to die and she would talk to me. I called 7 times left messages - no one would return my calls until one night at 10:30 PM I get a message from the vet to call her back WTF! I call another 4 times. Nothing. Then my poor ado...pter starts getting harassing phone calls from the husband. I call again - still no one will tell me what the results of the appointment and the husband starts calling and harassing me. Months pass - still won't return my calls. First off, I will never step foot in this place again nor would I EVER recommend them. Back in the end of June, I adopted a kitten. I went and paid his adoption fee but wasn't able to pick him up until July 5th. They agreed to hold him even though I could tell they really didn't want to. When I went in right at 8am on July 5th, they told me that the kitten I paid for and adopted 'didn't make it' and offered me his brother. Being shocked, I didn't have much to say at the momen...t, but I took the brother and left. I left without any paper work, just a kitten. After thinking about it and discussing it further with others, I figured that they had probably just accidentally adopted out the kitten I originally paid for on accident. The kitten I ended up with is wonderful and I figure, everything happens for a reason, so I moved on. But if a kitten that someone already paid for dies, you would think that the vet office would have a little decency to call the person and let them know. Fast forward to now, November 9th.. I scheduled my cats neuter for Nov. 8th. Although I had corrected the staff a few times of his name change, they continued to call him by the 'deceased' cats name that was on my record for them. When I first walked in, the two workers, a male and female, did not make me feel comfortable with leaving my cat there for the day and over night. They just seemed odd and unprofessional. I have spent a few years doing dog rescue, and have been in and out of numerous vet offices throughout the midwest so I have a bit of knowledge and experience when it comes to vet clinics. The staff referred to my cat, who was there to get his neuter, as a she, multiple times. When I picked him up and got him home, I noticed that they had cut his nails INCREDIBLY SHORT. I have never ever seen a cats nails cut so short. There's practically nothing there. The ONLY two things I gave them consent to do to my cat was the neuter and microchip. This clinic also had ELEVEN (11) front office cats just roaming around the front area. The place reeks of urine and feces and is just disgusting. For the past year we have been having a billing issue with them. Every time we go in they tell us we owed money that we had already paid, every time we speak to the vet and she tells us the issue is fixed. Yet the next time we go in the bill is still there. Now they have begun shifting the balance forward each time onto another animal when we bring them in. So when we pay for the current service they apply it to the past balance that was not actually owed. Now, since we haven't been there in a while they put us.in collections. When I call.to speak to them I was told the person who handles billing is an airline pilot who is "gone for weeks on end" so no one can help me with the issue. I will seek a new vet, it's sad that they hire such incompetent people there. Read Less

I have been taking my dog Rosco, (and now my new cat Chi), there ever since I got them. I always get a friendly welcome at the door and they are always happy to see my goofballs. The older lady there is really helpful, and she always has enough patience when Rosco gets figgity. She gives good pointers and praises when my pets are in good shape. My cat is fairly young and new and gets hissy with the other cats around however. Having cats constantly running around the front could be dangerous. That's why i had to knock off a star. Read Less

I would recommend anyone to come here, the people who work there really care about animals and have such passion for them. I recently adopted Hannah a female cat 12/31/2016 she is adjusting well and in good health. We love her so much she is a little shy but already coming around quickly, playing and jumping and sleeping on our bed. I am so happy and know she was well loved and taken care of until she found us to make a forever home! Please if looking to adopt take the time to look at the animals here they may need little extra love and patience at the beginning however,  it will be well worth it. Read Less

I wish I could give this place a negative 5 rating. My daughter brought her cat in to get checked. She was told she was dehydrated, and that she would have to stay the night. She called to check on her cat a few hours later, and she was told that her cat died. They didn't even try to get a hold of her to tell her. What were they waiting for? The next day when she was supposed to pick her up? Absolutely horrible customer relations. Not to mention theyour can't seem to clean that place. Read Less

We brought my brother's dog in because his stomach was swollen and he had labored breathing. The vet told my brother that the dog's heart was the problem and that his body was filling up with fluid. The sent my brother home with pills to help him urinate and decrease the fluid build up. They didn't give him an estimated amount of time that the pills should start working, they didn't give him a time frame as to when it would become vital to bring the dog back in incase the pills weren't working, and they did NOTHING to attempt to drain ANY fluid from the dog to help alleviate the pressure building up so the dog could BREATH; but they sure did take my brother's money. Needless to say, but his dog passed away about 7hours later. All that money spent just to watch my brother's beloved friend die straggling to breath. Also i have to mention the fact that the place was CRAWLING with loose cats and smelled soooo STRONG of cat urine that it was hard to breath. Some people are allergic to cats and still have other pets that need to go to the vet. My boyfriend, whom was their at the time, is allergic to cat and one jumped on his lap! Also not all of them were friendly, 2 hissed at me, 1 tried to bite me and another lady, 1 hissed at another cat there, and 1 freaked out on one of ladies that WORKS THERE! That is highly, highly, HIGHLY unprofessional disorganized, and potentially harmful to children as well as other animals that come in to see the vet!!!!!Read Less

We adopted a 3 year old standard poodle. He had been neutered and ripped out his stitches not once, not twice... But THREE times! I normally go to Chessie lane with our other dog but since our poodle was neutered at the Ottawa vet, I brought him to see who did the surgery. Ended up taking him to Chessie lane and they let me know how awful of a job Ottawa vet did and how messy his incision was. Now he has staples since stitches wouldn't even hold up the mess that this vet did....on top of that he had an infection from them as well so no he's on antibiotics and a inflammatory as well. This poor guy has been thru enough... They are rude and careless and never would I go there or recommend them. Brought my cat to get declawed here. The day we brought him in, the staff was wonderful. Absolutely wonderful, I felt comfortable leavig leavig fur child with them. Then, the following day (October 22nd), the woman I talked to was rude and heartless. I was asking questions about how my cat reached when he got out of surgery, she gave me a very generic answer and then got an attitude with me when I asked to speak to someone who had been there the day before. I explained to her that my cat has been through a lot and I just wanted to be sure be was okay. She got defensive and even more angry. She told me that if something was wrong they would have called. All of my animals will now be cared for at Illinois Valley Vet Hospital. What kills me, is the day before the nicest people alive were taking care of our baby, then this woman was put in charge for the day. So rude. Read Less

The entire staff couldn't be more compassionate or kind. I would trust them with any of my animals. They have been with us through both good and bad with our dogs and cats. What other vet do you know that would call at 9pm on a Saturday night out of concern for a sick dog. I love my vets office! Read Less

Took my dog in for shots and to get neutered, people were very friendly when i dropped him off. I recieved no after care instructions and my dog was covered in and smelled badly of urine when i went to pick him up. Asked about bathing him and was told not for a few days cause the stitches could not get wet. So im supposed to let him stay that way? Not happy with that answer. Read Less

Doctor has really helped my elderly cat survive longer. She has patiently worked with us to give him comfort. She has been very understanding. Her prices are reasonable. The staff have been great in getting us in on short notice and they are very cordial. She tries to find good homes for lots of kitties.Read Less

I have 4 cats and 2 dogs and have been going to ""Doctor"" as they call her there for almost 10 years. I have always found them to be helpful and compassionate when it comes to my animals as well as being understanding to my personal situation. I would recommend the Ottawa Veterinary Hospital to anyone who is in the Ottawa area and has animals.
