Harper Animal Hospital officially opened its doors in 1975, and since that time we have been providing our clients and patients with the highest level of quality service and care. We are conveniently located to serve the communities of Palatine, Inverness, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, and Barrington. We can be found near the corner of Algonquin Road and Roselle Road in Palatine.
Harper Animal Hospital is a full service veterinary clinic offering a wide range of comprehensive animal healthcare services, from routine wellness care to state-of-the-art diagnostics to surgery and more. Our situation is particularly unique in that both of our veterinarians are second generation vets, with their fathers owning animal hospitals in rural Iowa. Spending numerous hours at their father’s practices has instilled a desire in both of them to bring that small town community experience to your visit while at the same time provide top notch modern veterinary service.
Harper Animal Hospital is proud to support our local communities. We have worked with many shelters over the years, providing veterinary care for pets in need of a good home. We also work with a local community college, providing an internship site for aspiring veterinary technicians. The company is okay but appears to be only in it for the money. I used to bring my dog in there until a few years ago, but I switched for other reasons. I just learned that my dog has a serious heart and thyroid issue.
I'm currently closer to Harper Animal Hospital and asked my current vet if Harper could fill a small amount of prescription until the full order arrives by mail, but they refused saying that my dog is not a current patient. I have a valid prescription and I can't think of any ethical reason why they should have refused to fill it in their pharmacy. I'm disappointed that they put their profits ahead of the health of pets they should care about. I probably won't consider returning.

Staff was super sweet and friendly! Brought my little quaker parrot here,buddy,for his vaccine ,checkup and some labs to make sure that he hasn't contracted any viruses. Dr Grabowski was very Informative and took the time to explain everything in detail to me so that I could make an informed decision. Nothing pushy,no hard selling. Great folks,clean place,very reasonable with no waiting! My new vet ! Nice to have an avian vet close by that also boards.

I love Harper animal hospital. We have been going here since 2011 and even after we moved we still will regularly go here. When we had to put one of our pets down they were extremely supportive and made us feel comforted in our time of need. I would hands-down recommend this animal hospital for anyone who is looking for a place where they will know you by name and treat your animals like they are family.

First of all. What a pleasant welcoming waiting room, beautifully decorated. The receptionist was so friendly and cheerful. The location was easy to find.This was my dogs first visit to this vet, so it was new for both of us. He was there for an annual visit and shots.Dr. Stephen Poduska was very kind and gentle to Flash my Dalmatian. He reviewed everything very thoroughly, making suggestions along the way. Such a Professional. I appreciated his interest in the future health of Flash and what I could do to help.I would highly recommend Harper Animal Hospital to all my friends.

We started taking our mastiff, Leeloo, here after we got her from someone who had been taking her to this hospital. We figured it would be easier since she was an existing patient. I was so pleased after the first visit with her, that I now have transferred both of my cats here as well from the vet that is quite a bit closer to us. We have seen both doctors and they are wonderful. The vet techs are very kind. The receptionist is wonderful. I have no complaints. It is a bit pricey, but comparable to other vets in the area. When I had an emergency with my kitten, they got her in immediately. I feel that they are pretty up front about what is necessary and what the animals can do without, which wasn't the case with my past vet (who I feel did a lot of unnecessary and costly things). I trust them wholeheartedly.

Visited Harper for the first time after moving to the area. The only reason I visited here was because of the good reviews and they were spot on. The staff and doctor are very friendly and helpful. They were happy to help us and answer all of our questions about our dog. After all the shots and meds and nail trim etc. that the doctor suggested I thought the price was going to be very steep but it was actually very reasonable. Harper will definitely be our go to veterinarian.

My dog was bitten by another dog in my neighborhood and the entire experience was really traumatic for my family and my little dog. Not only did they give my dog excellent medical care but they also treated my husband and I with kindness and compassion. They are quick to answer any questions we have and have been so helpful with follow up care. We have had questionable vet experiences in the past and are happy to finally find a place to take our pets that we can trust :)

We started bringing our animals here when we adopted our dog from a friend, and this is where she had been taking him his whole life. 1 dog and 3 cats have been brought in for various reasons (diabetes, kidney failure, cyst removals, basic claw trims), and we have had nothing but wonderful experiences each time (even last week when I had to put my best friend/kitty down). Dr. Poduska has amazing "bedside manner" and has made even the hardest conversations as easy as possible. The nurses and front desk staff are sweet as can be as well. I don't see us bringing our pets anywhere else as long as Harper Animal Hospital is here.

From my recent experience at Harper with Dr. Paduska, I would recommend this clinic to anyone. I sought treatment for persistent fleas on my 14 year old pup. He was thorough and professional in explaining all treatments, and answered all questions completely. This is my primary reason for giving 5 stars; when any doctor is thorough and an effective communicator, their patients are satisfied, educated and better off. Other positives; clean and comfortable office, friendly and expedient staff, punctual, reasonable pricing, and it was easy to make a quick appointment. I found the location easily and the office staff seemed eager to make sure that was the case. Finally, in her 14 years, this is the only vet my pup has ever liked.

I have used their boarding service a few times. I always reserve the service in advance. Every time I drop my dogs off, they come up with something that needs to be done in order to take my dogs in, besides all conventional vaccinations. For example, dog flu shot, fecal exam, heart worm test, etc, etc. They are all legit medical stuffs, I admit. But it made me feel that they take advantage of my situation. See, I was about to get on a plane for vacation, what other options do I have but to agree to pay those extra stuffs on top of boarding fee? Their attitude was take it or leave it. I always end up with extra $100-200 because of this. Their vaccination is not particularly cheap. I don't know if this is their strategy to offer cheap boarding fee($22 per dog, unless changed) to lure customer and require extra stuff at the last moment to make up cheap boarding. My experience certainly led to this speculation.My advice to boarding customers is to contact them and ask about all vaccination requirements to avoid last miniute surprise, in advance, or stop by and show them all paperworks. I have no other complaint. I picked up my dogs. They were alive and well.If this hospital protests my claim, saying I don't show up in their system, that is bs. I see this kind of defence a lot in Yelp. I am a legit customer to this hospital. Why would I reveal my real name in Yelp?

Great doctors and nurses! I've been bringing my boy to Harper since he was 2 Mo the old and it's been 4yrs now! And not only is Harper a animal clinic but they also do boarding. I had to board once and when I came to pick my dog up he didn't want to leave because of the fun he had, and he was washed and fed well and looked great!
I definitely have recommended and will continue to recommend Harper to everyone.

I found my new vet!! They listen to you and are attentive to your pets individual needs. The veterinarians, the techs and all the staff are wonderful caring people. What more could you ask for!

I actually opted for Harper based on reviews from others that Yelped for them!My little TuffPuppy was going to a different clinic and just NOT appropriately treated and met her demise, so sad and sickening how she suffered, on July 30, 2015.Prior to her demise, in desperation for a different Vet as I KNEW she'd die if I couldn't find another one, I reached out to the Yelp community and got a great deal of feedback which I wasn't able to use for TuffPuppy as no other Vet would help with the situation that the terrible clinic she was going to put her into.No other Vet would take her given how messed up she'd become from what the other clinic put her through. I can only assume it was an issue of liability. She suffered beyond belief though I didn't realize it until I has post mortem analysis done and found out what was really going on with her. OF COURSE... DONE BY A LAB OTHER THAN that CLINIC!!!!!HOWEVER, I got my second MaltDaughter, TwinkleBelles, on October 4, 2015. As soon as I was able to catch the little wild one (I do believe she's part kangaroo, race horse, mouse, and definitely unicorn but sure looks like a Maltese and has the pedigree of a full Maltese!) I took her off to Dr. Poduska for her first check up.He is VERY pleasant and the clinic very pleasant. He takes the time to LISTEN to what the Mommy of his little patient says quite attentively and I find him to be quite pleasant.They take Care Credit and are approved by my insurance, Trupanion, and I highly recommend this clinic! Trust me... if I recommend ANY Veterinarian after what poor little TuffPuppy went through, it means A LOT. The clinic she went to was a revolving door of complete and total insanity. It's just a great peace of mind to know that my TwinkleBelles will be safely in the hands of a well recommended, seasoned and very likeable professional as Dr. Poduska!Thank you Harper Animal Hospital team!Karen & TwinkleBelles

I'm new to the area and my dog needed to be updated on her vaccinations. I requested an appointment online from their website and spoke with someone via email to confirm an appointment. When I went in they didn't have me down for an appointment and said they don't do online appointments. I was confused thinking that I went to the wrong place, but I didn't. I filled out the form and waited less than 5 minutes until they brought me back. The only other thing I didn't like is that they take the pets into the back room to give the shots, not in the room with you.

We have been to several vets both in the city and in the suburbs and this is by far our best vet experience. They are attentive, responsible, and caring. We have pet insurance and they always remember to submit forms without being reminded. When our dog needed allergy tests they walked us through that process extremely well. I can't recommend them enough!

We've taken our pets to Harper Animal Hospital since the 1980s. We've brought dogs and cats, but have seen a variety of animals there over the years.The doctors and other employees there are always caring and know our names, but more importantly, our pet's names when we visit. We've used them for checkups and vaccinations; for emergency care and for boarding; we've also had to go to euthanize loved pets before. We've never seen our pet's treated with anything but loving care. The staff fully understands that pet's are loved ones and are part of your family, so are very caring of your needs as well as your pet's need.

They helped treat my pup's chronic illness to the end, and when I had to come in that last horrible time they were there for me too. That last visit was an emergency and they have my little one A+ care.I'm adopting a dog tomorrow, and I'll be bringing him to Harper Animal hospital. I know they put compassion over compensation. I feel so lucky to have vets like them right around the corner. In short: affordable, compassionate, and knowledgeable. I don't think I can ever than them enough.

After moving last summer, I have been looking for a new vet... and it's been pretty tough. Admittedly, being very analytical and selective, there are specific expectations I have for whomever is servicing my fur kid(s)... especially the one I have had so long, he's got his DL.Anywhoo... I tried a couple places in the area, and they were either seriously in need of upkeep and refurbishing (and some Febreze ) in the reception area, or the Vet was so rushed and scattered - you wondered why their practice name wasn't "Half-A$$ing Care"...So I was going to try a third place... when I saw their intake form (online)... which has a question that red-flagged them for me, and I cancelled... to try Harper.This place is in an awkward location, by Harper College, on westbound Algonquin, JUST before the lane merges... but that is the only negative I can say... This place is nicely updated, parking is easy, and the staff are very nice... and the vet? Awesome!!! Dr. Paduska is so zen... he is very soft-spoken, calm and gentle with my kid, takes the time to discuss and explain options and his recommendations to address my concerns. Griff is geriatric, and has age-related health issues, in addition to suddenly getting a major cold, and digestive issues recently, so its been a storm of medications and treatments lately, and Dr. Paduska has been excellent.I like this practice's vibe, and the vet service is exemplary, prices are reasonable as well.5 Stars are very rare from me... if you expect better service from your vet than you do from your own personal doctor, this place will work for you I think...

For those who don't know, my dog is special. Very special. He loathes other dogs, has a strange affection for stuffed squirrels (the toys not the taxidermy sort), can be a total baby at the vet and generally acts like a bit of a weirdo. But hey, we love him, thus finding a vet who can properly care for Riley and his quirks is pretty vital. Dr. Abel and the staff at Harper Animal Hospital do just that. They are gentle with our little weirdo. Not only are they knowledgeable about all things canine, but they really care about their patients and their patients owners! I truly appreciate when a doctor goes out of his/her way to save me money rather than just schedule a handful of pricey tests that will probably not help my pooch. Extra props for Saturday hours, super friendly vet techs (Terri and Beth) and a clean, straightforward facility.

Harper Animal Hospital is a full service veterinary clinic offering a wide range of comprehensive animal healthcare services, from routine wellness care to state-of-the-art diagnostics to surgery and more. Our situation is particularly unique in that both of our veterinarians are second generation vets, with their fathers owning animal hospitals in rural Iowa. Spending numerous hours at their father’s practices has instilled a desire in both of them to bring that small town community experience to your visit while at the same time provide top notch modern veterinary service.
Harper Animal Hospital is proud to support our local communities. We have worked with many shelters over the years, providing veterinary care for pets in need of a good home. We also work with a local community college, providing an internship site for aspiring veterinary technicians. The company is okay but appears to be only in it for the money. I used to bring my dog in there until a few years ago, but I switched for other reasons. I just learned that my dog has a serious heart and thyroid issue.
I'm currently closer to Harper Animal Hospital and asked my current vet if Harper could fill a small amount of prescription until the full order arrives by mail, but they refused saying that my dog is not a current patient. I have a valid prescription and I can't think of any ethical reason why they should have refused to fill it in their pharmacy. I'm disappointed that they put their profits ahead of the health of pets they should care about. I probably won't consider returning.

Staff was super sweet and friendly! Brought my little quaker parrot here,buddy,for his vaccine ,checkup and some labs to make sure that he hasn't contracted any viruses. Dr Grabowski was very Informative and took the time to explain everything in detail to me so that I could make an informed decision. Nothing pushy,no hard selling. Great folks,clean place,very reasonable with no waiting! My new vet ! Nice to have an avian vet close by that also boards.

I love Harper animal hospital. We have been going here since 2011 and even after we moved we still will regularly go here. When we had to put one of our pets down they were extremely supportive and made us feel comforted in our time of need. I would hands-down recommend this animal hospital for anyone who is looking for a place where they will know you by name and treat your animals like they are family.

First of all. What a pleasant welcoming waiting room, beautifully decorated. The receptionist was so friendly and cheerful. The location was easy to find.This was my dogs first visit to this vet, so it was new for both of us. He was there for an annual visit and shots.Dr. Stephen Poduska was very kind and gentle to Flash my Dalmatian. He reviewed everything very thoroughly, making suggestions along the way. Such a Professional. I appreciated his interest in the future health of Flash and what I could do to help.I would highly recommend Harper Animal Hospital to all my friends.

We started taking our mastiff, Leeloo, here after we got her from someone who had been taking her to this hospital. We figured it would be easier since she was an existing patient. I was so pleased after the first visit with her, that I now have transferred both of my cats here as well from the vet that is quite a bit closer to us. We have seen both doctors and they are wonderful. The vet techs are very kind. The receptionist is wonderful. I have no complaints. It is a bit pricey, but comparable to other vets in the area. When I had an emergency with my kitten, they got her in immediately. I feel that they are pretty up front about what is necessary and what the animals can do without, which wasn't the case with my past vet (who I feel did a lot of unnecessary and costly things). I trust them wholeheartedly.

Visited Harper for the first time after moving to the area. The only reason I visited here was because of the good reviews and they were spot on. The staff and doctor are very friendly and helpful. They were happy to help us and answer all of our questions about our dog. After all the shots and meds and nail trim etc. that the doctor suggested I thought the price was going to be very steep but it was actually very reasonable. Harper will definitely be our go to veterinarian.

My dog was bitten by another dog in my neighborhood and the entire experience was really traumatic for my family and my little dog. Not only did they give my dog excellent medical care but they also treated my husband and I with kindness and compassion. They are quick to answer any questions we have and have been so helpful with follow up care. We have had questionable vet experiences in the past and are happy to finally find a place to take our pets that we can trust :)

We started bringing our animals here when we adopted our dog from a friend, and this is where she had been taking him his whole life. 1 dog and 3 cats have been brought in for various reasons (diabetes, kidney failure, cyst removals, basic claw trims), and we have had nothing but wonderful experiences each time (even last week when I had to put my best friend/kitty down). Dr. Poduska has amazing "bedside manner" and has made even the hardest conversations as easy as possible. The nurses and front desk staff are sweet as can be as well. I don't see us bringing our pets anywhere else as long as Harper Animal Hospital is here.

We started bringing our animals here when we adopted our dog from a friend, and this is where she had been taking him his whole life. 1 dog and 3 cats have been brought in for various reasons (diabetes, kidney failure, cyst removals, basic claw trims), and we have had nothing but wonderful experiences each time (even last week when I had to put my best friend/kitty down). From my recent experience at Harper with Dr. Paduska, I would recommend this clinic to anyone. I sought treatment for persistent fleas on my 14 year old pup. He was thorough and professional in explaining all treatments, and answered all questions completely. This is my primary reason for giving 5 stars; when any doctor is thorough and an effective communicator, their patients are satisfied, educated and better off. Other positives; clean and comfortable office, friendly and expedient staff, punctual, reasonable pricing, and it was easy to make a quick appointment. I found the location easily and the office staff seemed eager to make sure that was the case. Finally, in her 14 years, this is the only vet my pup has ever liked.

I have used their boarding service a few times. I always reserve the service in advance. Every time I drop my dogs off, they come up with something that needs to be done in order to take my dogs in, besides all conventional vaccinations. For example, dog flu shot, fecal exam, heart worm test, etc, etc. They are all legit medical stuffs, I admit. But it made me feel that they take advantage of my situation. See, I was about to get on a plane for vacation, what other options do I have but to agree to pay those extra stuffs on top of boarding fee? Their attitude was take it or leave it. I always end up with extra $100-200 because of this. Their vaccination is not particularly cheap. I don't know if this is their strategy to offer cheap boarding fee($22 per dog, unless changed) to lure customer and require extra stuff at the last moment to make up cheap boarding. My experience certainly led to this speculation.My advice to boarding customers is to contact them and ask about all vaccination requirements to avoid last miniute surprise, in advance, or stop by and show them all paperworks. I have no other complaint. I picked up my dogs. They were alive and well.If this hospital protests my claim, saying I don't show up in their system, that is bs. I see this kind of defence a lot in Yelp. I am a legit customer to this hospital. Why would I reveal my real name in Yelp?

Great doctors and nurses! I've been bringing my boy to Harper since he was 2 Mo the old and it's been 4yrs now! And not only is Harper a animal clinic but they also do boarding. I had to board once and when I came to pick my dog up he didn't want to leave because of the fun he had, and he was washed and fed well and looked great!
I definitely have recommended and will continue to recommend Harper to everyone.

I actually opted for Harper based on reviews from others that Yelped for them!My little TuffPuppy was going to a different clinic and just NOT appropriately treated and met her demise, so sad and sickening how she suffered, on July 30, 2015.Prior to her demise, in desperation for a different Vet as I KNEW she'd die if I couldn't find another one, I reached out to the Yelp community and got a great deal of feedback which I wasn't able to use for TuffPuppy as no other Vet would help with the situation that the terrible clinic she was going to put her into.No other Vet would take her given how messed up she'd become from what the other clinic put her through. I can only assume it was an issue of liability. She suffered beyond belief though I didn't realize it until I has post mortem analysis done and found out what was really going on with her. OF COURSE... DONE BY A LAB OTHER THAN that CLINIC!!!!!HOWEVER, I got my second MaltDaughter, TwinkleBelles, on October 4, 2015. As soon as I was able to catch the little wild one (I do believe she's part kangaroo, race horse, mouse, and definitely unicorn but sure looks like a Maltese and has the pedigree of a full Maltese!) I took her off to Dr. Poduska for her first check up.He is VERY pleasant and the clinic very pleasant. He takes the time to LISTEN to what the Mommy of his little patient says quite attentively and I find him to be quite pleasant.They take Care Credit and are approved by my insurance, Trupanion, and I highly recommend this clinic! Trust me... if I recommend ANY Veterinarian after what poor little TuffPuppy went through, it means A LOT. The clinic she went to was a revolving door of complete and total insanity. I'm new to the area and my dog needed to be updated on her vaccinations. I requested an appointment online from their website and spoke with someone via email to confirm an appointment. When I went in they didn't have me down for an appointment and said they don't do online appointments. I was confused thinking that I went to the wrong place, but I didn't. I filled out the form and waited less than 5 minutes until they brought me back. The only other thing I didn't like is that they take the pets into the back room to give the shots, not in the room with you.

We have been to several vets both in the city and in the suburbs and this is by far our best vet experience. They are attentive, responsible, and caring. We have pet insurance and they always remember to submit forms without being reminded. When our dog needed allergy tests they walked us through that process extremely well. I can't recommend them enough!

We've taken our pets to Harper Animal Hospital since the 1980s. We've brought dogs and cats, but have seen a variety of animals there over the years.The doctors and other employees there are always caring and know our names, but more importantly, our pet's names when we visit. We've used them for checkups and vaccinations; for emergency care and for boarding; we've also had to go to euthanize loved pets before. We've never seen our pet's treated with anything but loving care. The staff fully understands that pet's are loved ones and are part of your family, so are very caring of your needs as well as your pet's need.

They helped treat my pup's chronic illness to the end, and when I had to come in that last horrible time they were there for me too. That last visit was an emergency and they have my little one A+ care.I'm adopting a dog tomorrow, and I'll be bringing him to Harper Animal hospital. I know they put compassion over compensation. After moving last summer, I have been looking for a new vet... and it's been pretty tough. Admittedly, being very analytical and selective, there are specific expectations I have for whomever is servicing my fur kid(s)... especially the one I have had so long, he's got his DL.Anywhoo... I tried a couple places in the area, and they were either seriously in need of upkeep and refurbishing (and some Febreze ) in the reception area, or the Vet was so rushed and scattered - you wondered why their practice name wasn't "Half-A$$ing Care"...So I was going to try a third place... when I saw their intake form (online)... which has a question that red-flagged them for me, and I cancelled... to try Harper.This place is in an awkward location, by Harper College, on westbound Algonquin, JUST before the lane merges... but that is the only negative I can say... This place is nicely updated, parking is easy, and the staff are very nice... and the vet? Awesome!!! Dr. Paduska is so zen... he is very soft-spoken, calm and gentle with my kid, takes the time to discuss and explain options and his recommendations to address my concerns. Griff is geriatric, and has age-related health issues, in addition to suddenly getting a major cold, and digestive issues recently, so its been a storm of medications and treatments lately, and Dr. Paduska has been excellent.I like this practice's vibe, and the vet service is exemplary, prices are reasonable as well.5 Stars are very rare from me... if you expect better service from your vet than you do from your own personal doctor, this place will work for you I think...

For those who don't know, my dog is special. Very special. He loathes other dogs, has a strange affection for stuffed squirrels (the toys not the taxidermy sort), can be a total baby at the vet and generally acts like a bit of a weirdo. But hey, we love him, thus finding a vet who can properly care for Riley and his quirks is pretty vital. Dr. Abel and the staff at Harper Animal Hospital do just that. They are gentle with our little weirdo. Not only are they knowledgeable about all things canine, but they really care about their patients and their patients owners! I truly appreciate when a doctor goes out of his/her way to save me money rather than just schedule a handful of pricey tests that will probably not help my pooch. Extra props for Saturday hours, super friendly vet techs (Terri and Beth) and a clean, straightforward facility.
