I just went through the most horrific 2 days of my life-my rottie Raven has been through it all as well as me. Through this all-many after hours phone calls-coming in on days off-he saw us through it all-who does that any more--Dr. Hinkle! Let me begin by saying that, because of moving, we have had many vets over the years. I am also from a medical family (3 doctors, 3 nurses, 1 counselor).  We know good medical care and have high expectations of anyone who sees us or cares for our animals.Dr. Hinkle and his staff are so wonderful.  We will never forget the care and concern that they have given both of our animals.  Let me explain.Hobbs: Our cat of 12 years developed diabetes and kidney issues.  We were seeing another doctor in Chicago and he never diagnosed it!  With the same symptoms, Dr. Hinkle caught it and we were able to start treatment.  That probably extended his life by a couple of years.  We were able to control the diabetes with insulin and Dr. Hinkle worked with us to learn how to modify insulin dosages as needed.  The staff also boarded Hobbs so that we could travel.  If you have a diabetic/sick cat, you know that it is next to impossible to find anyone who will board your pet. Then, one day, Hobbs couldn't stand.  We feared the worst.  We called and they made room to see him.  Dr. Hinkle tried to get him stable and indeed he did.  But, as we knew would eventually happen, his kidneys failed.  We had the option of putting him on dialysis.  Again, Dr. Hinkle worked to save Hobbs.  After weighing our options, we decided that it was time to let Hobbs go.  I can't tell you how wonderful Dr. Hinkle, Susan, Melody, and his whole staff were throughout the process.I will NEVER FORGET how they loved and cared for our Hobbs!Shy-Boy:  Our little poodle is pretty healthy.  His well-dog checks were comprehensive and careful.  Two weeks ago I thought he was constipated.  I took him in because he was in pain. Again, they made time to see him.  After examining him, Dr. Hinkle told us that he believed that the issue was his back.  He gave him an injection for pain and a dose of steroids.  Within 24 hours, he was almost back to normal.  After 24 hours, Dr. Hinkle called to check on Shy. WHAT???  That's never happened before!Bottom line: We think the world of Dr. Hinkle and his staff. They feel like family. Both of my animals loved their doctor.  We would recommend them highly. We just love this place. Dr Hinkle and his staff treat everyone like family. Dr Hinkle's ability to disgnose and treat is amazing. We've had to deal with a diabetic cat with kidney failure and ultimately lost our precious Hobbs. Throughout the process, the staff was supportive and loving. He also cares for our poodle. Dr Hinkle is also careful to treat only what is needed. He has actually talked me out of procedures that other vets said were "do or die." Dr. Hinkle, in the long run, was spot-on. Can't believe I can't give this place no stars. We have neutered our last 4 animals and all of the animals have died within 5 years.... and 3 of them were CATS! I don't trust Dr. Hinkle one bit. I don't particularly like him either. Such a shady man, telling us because my dog has some fear aggression towards other dogs that we HAVE to put him down. Freaked my mother out so badly she almost did it while I was away at school. I have my dog now and will NEVER let him anywhere near that man again. He has "miraculously" gotten better on his own. This is the last place in the world I would take ANY animal for treatment. If you don't want your animals to die for the benefit of Dr. Hinkle's wallet, don't even look at this place. Read Less

Dr. Hinkle was terrific with my aging toy poodle that got bite by another dog. It was an emergency situation, he diagnosed the issue immediatly and becuase of his quickness and concern my little guy is doing great! I've been taking my dogs to Dr. Hinkle for two years now and I'm very pleased! He is very caring and honest, and treats me with respect also. He always calls to check on the dogs when they've needed different treatments, including one time when he called on Christmas morning to check on my beloved greyhound! That really impressed me, and I appreciated it. I also feel that his staff is great as well. They are super friendly and caring towards the animals. This review, I hope is seen by anyone and everyone considering Hilltop as a good fit for there family and beloved animals. Dr Hinkle is responsible for the death of my cat. I'm writing this and removing my emotional aspect of it, and writing the facts. We went in because we have 3 cats, and one of them was relieving himself in our house. We wanted to check about one maybe having a bladder infection. Dr Hinkle explained that they probably did not have any bladder issues but he would check into it and make sure. He stated, "He would hate to have to put one of them to sleep," assuming we would put our cat down over some minor peeing which would never be the case. He later explained that because we had an un altered male cat, he may be upsetting the fixed female cat, and suggested we get our two year old kitten neutered. We followed his advice and took him in for the surgery. I went to pick him up, no body told me anything, if he did alright, etc. they said to keep an eye out for infection around the stitches. I follows and kept an eye on him, he seemed groggy...I chalked it up to being a bit traumatic. Four days later, my partner and I found our two year old kitten, dead under our bed. Barely standing, I called Dr Hinkle. He said bring him in he probably got an infection.I brought him in. Him and his small staff all looked at him for signs of infection. There were none. He explained he would do an autopsy and call me. A few days later, still grieving, he called and said he was going to send in the test he took for an autopsy, but he is positive our kitten had a feline virus at birth and the surgery just sent the virus into attack mode throughout his body. He then asked is I'd like my little guy cremated. I said yes, please privately cremate him. He called a few days later, and told me the tests came back negative for any viruses and he isn't sure what happened but "probably some kind of infection."He apparently only ran ONE TEST in the autopsy, explored no other alternatives. It was too late to determine cause of death, Dr Hinkle had already sent him for cremation. I will never know exactly what happened to my beautiful little boy. He was two years old and perfectly healthy. Dr Hinkle is twisted. The entirety of what we have been through with this man, has made me ill. I would not trust him. I have made my peace with this, though always heartbroken. I wrote this, honestly, to prevent others from having to experience this. After talking with other people, their experiences are just as similar, just as shocking and sickening. I would beg anyone and everyone to look elsewhere. Read Less

Dr. Hinkle is a GREAT VET. We have brought our family pets to him since I was a little girl, and now that I am an adult I bring my own animals to him. He is compassionate both to humans and animals, and takes a genuine interest in their progress. If you want a realistic vet, with a friendly and helpful staff, Dr. Hinkle is your guy. Read Less
