I had a healthy dog with no illness in February and by May, now have a dead dog and three upset kids (and me). My dog was lethargic most of March and all of April. Was sent home with anti-inflammatory meds in early April. Rear legs ecame wobbly 7 days later and was told nothing could be done since it was likely a neurological issue. I'm convinced it was an infection that spread to the spine. Too bad basic blood work was not recommended at either of my visits. Makes sense with the lethargy and sensitivity to touch but it became too late to save her. She was a good dog. I will never take another pet to this vet. Go elsewhere. Read Less

I just moved to Palatine so I was looking for a new vet to bring my 5 year old Vizsla and 10 week old German Shorthair Pointer puppy. I tried Palatine animal hospital for a few months and absolutely hated it. The receptionists are rude on the phone and in person. They messed up appointment times and then got defensive. My vizsla cut her foot so they had to stitch it back up. When we brought her back for a follow up to see if it was healing they refused to redress the wound and put the dirty sock back on her foot that we had temporarily used. I've been a pet father customer for 2 years and being a chihuahua lover many vets prefer larger breeds and here they understand small using children's sized needles for blood draws etc. I just wish they had a few half days on the weekends sadly they are closed on weekends yes vets deserve weekends off.The Dr's are kind and efficient and my family of hooligans seems to enjoy them it's not a bad experience going for shots and a yearly checkup. I usually go through a few vets before settling on the right one but my entire extended family take their fury kids There as well. It's easy to find with good parking.Read Less

Dr Riordan at the Palatine Animal Hospital does an excellent job of taking care of our dogs/girls. They are 14 and 17 years old. He also is very caring and gentle when delivering not so good news to the humans. All the ladies at the hospital are also caring and work with you. It is very efficient to refill prescriptions by email. Highly recommend Dr Riordan and the entire staff. Read Less

I've been taking my dogs to Palatine Animal Hospital for 20 years and I've always had a great experience. Dr. Riordan and Dr. Luttrell are excellent vets who truly care about pets and their owners. They listen and answer all your questions, never make you feel rushed or that your questions or concerns are not important. When my dog Maxx was diagnosed with cancer Dr. Riordan help me decide not to treat him, due to the pain and trauma of the treatment, and his age. He never pressured me to do anything that wasn't in Maxx's best interest, and helped me through those last weeks, which were very hard.When the time came to put him down, Dr Luttrell could not have been kinder to both of us. And they later sent me a condolence card that the whole staff signed.When I finally got a new dog, I never considered taking him anywhere else. In fact, even though I moved to Grayslake, 20 miles away, I still take him to Palatine Animal Hospital. They are the best. Read Less

I started taking my cat yodi to the palatine animal hospital after learning that my cat has kidney disease at first it was just learn about how to give my cat fluids which I never was able to master. I had the pleasure of working with the staff who who are really the nicest group of people you would want to work with. I highly recommend Palatine animal hospital they really do care about your pet. This was my first experience with them. I felt when I left, it was the worst I have ever experienced at a vet in regards to it being more business-like than an actual vet. I walked in and I felt they pressured me into buying certain things that weren't necessary (or I could get elsewhere for a fraction of the price). In fact, they didn't even give me an option if I wanted to buy certain things or give my dog certain vaccinations. They walked into the room and said this is what we are going to do today. They rushed it too so I couldn't even get an argument in of I don't want certain things done to my dog. They came in and took her without even asking if what they were doing was alright with me. She got a test run and 2 vaccinations that they just told me they were going to do without asking me. I know, I can always say no, but I hardly had a chance to ask a question or say no. Had they explained why she should get certain shots, I could have said no if I didn't want them. Overall, I felt that they were smart and obviously know what they are talking about, but they were more concerned about running a business and getting as much money out of me as they possibly could. They ran a test on her which was quite expensive, and they didn't even give me time to look at her previous records I had with me to see when she had that test last. Needless to say, I'll never see that money again. Another major thing I felt they did was, they made me feel like if I didn't get all the shots they were saying, or giving her all the medications, I was a bad dog owner. I felt they pressured and guilted me into a lot of things. I think they are over-medicating my dog, and I will not go back to them. Also, I will make sure to only get her the shots that are absolutely necessary. I was going in for just a WELLNESS CHECKUP. I told them that and my guess is because I was a new patient, they were going to take advantage of that. I walked in expecting to pay roughly $50, and after all of their obnoxious rushing and "suggestions" I paid $317...for a wellness checkup...tell me how that adds up. Oh yea...they took my dog back to run tests without asking and same with vaccinations!!! I am so mad. I wouldn't go here if you're trying to save money, or just don't want obnoxious salespeople pushing you around. And, I wouldn't go here if you don't want your pet to be treated like a business transaction the whole time. I would suggest looking for a place that will love your pet as much as you do and not give you excess information just to get your money! I feel they could care less about your pet and it's all about how much money they can get out of you. Don't believe any of that 5 stars google review junk! Brought my Longhaired Chihuahua in for a dental. Picked him up as soon as I was allowed to after anesthesia. They handed him to me and the receptionist said "He's done nothing but whine since he's been out of surgery, we all have headaches now", and when the tech handed him to me she was holding him as far away from her body as possible and said "take him, he peed all over himself in the kennel", What a sad way to treat a scared post op dog :( Read Less

AMAZING! I dropped my cat off there for an extended period and they treated him so well. I think he wanted to stay. He got loads of attention and when I picked him up he looked healthy and happy and very well groomed. Thumbs up to you. I will be back again and again! I brought my dog in with a minor ear infection and was given Otomax.  I gave the prescribed dose 3 times which was all it took to make my dog deaf.  I brought him back to see what was wrong and Dr. Riordan said he was deaf and didn't I read the label?  No, I didn't; I followed his instructions on dosing and now my poor dog is deaf.  He never said a thing to me about this possible side effect and I would never have used a product like that on my dog had I known. I do not recommend this hospital under any circumstances.  Heartless.Our new vet treats his ear infections with an alcohol solution wipe which controls it although his hearing never came back. They keep us informed as to test results and communicate well as to upcoming examinations. They work hard to ensure our pets are at an optimal level of health. I have a fairly healthy cat, so I don't have to go to the vet too often, but every time we have gone, the entire staff is amazing.
