I needed to bring my dog Sherlock on to see a vet. I did not have an appointment so they kindly told me I had to come back at few hours later. When I arrived the Dr. Looked Sherlock over, gave me a very detailed description of what he thought was wrong, got some medicine for Sherlock. Very friendly staff, knowledge, the Dr. was great. But, I can't say enough good things, about one of the women veterinarians, who work at this facility. Her name is Dr. Shepherd. They have been a part of our pets lives from the joy of bringing them home to holding our hands when our babies cross over the Rainbow Bridge. Though we have seen a number of the vets, our primary doctor is Dr. Sankey and I cannot say enough wonderful things about him. My husband and I are very new furparents of an 11 week old puppy. We took him home from his mom's rescue foster humans just a little over 2 weeks ago and made an appointment with Palos Animal Hospital for general puppy planning and check-up. We chose PAH because not only bc we were looking for a vet within our community, but the reviews online were very positive. During our appointment, Dr. Sankey (Jeff) spent over an hour explaining so much of what I would need to know about our new addition to the family. Little did I know when I left there 2 weeks ago, that we would be rushing our pup in near closing time, gravely ill. The short story is, I took my pup for a walk, stopped at a neighbors where my pup walked around the lawn, walked back home, pup played around in grass on my lawn and as soon as I took him off leash and brought him inside, he lay limp in his bed. I looked in his eyes, they were pouring 'tears' from his eyes, put my hand under his mouth and the saliva started pouring out. Within 20 minutes of him finishing his walk, he was being rushed into PAH, still in his bed and diarrhea was beginning. Well, Beau is back home resting tonight and seems well on his way back to his puppy self! We wouldn't have expected the emotions we went through last night since we are so new to owning our new pet, but it was sad coming home without him last night. Tonight we feel grateful for choosing PAH - the staff are amazing and we really aren't sure if we would still have lil Beau today if it weren't for Dr. Jeff. He treated our pup and his humans in a very touch and go situation and I believe he was able to save his life because of his expertise in his field, his quick thinking and collab with others doctors in the field. When Beau was stable, we brought him to Premiere where he received awesome care as well! Thank you PAH for keeping your doors open late to make sure Beau was stable enough for us to take him to the next hospital and taking such excellent care of him (and us) yesterday! PS... For those wondering, the suspect of illness was Beau likely ingested a muscarine mushroom - toxic/poison which caused lactating, salivating, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. He was with me the whole time on his leash and although he sniffs everything, chases leaves and chewed a stick - we did not see him 'eat' anything and still can't pinpoint exactly when/where he ingested it but he'll be in a bubble for awhile now! Been going here for years. They never remember me or my cat. That didn't bother me too much. But then they took x-rays and said they couldn't see anything wrong with my cat on the x-rays. Took the same x-rays and my cat to a new vet and the new vet saw 3 issues within 2 min of looking at those same x-rays. SO not only did I waste time at a vet clinic that was not welcoming, but I wasted thousands of dollars at a clinic that apparently can't read x-rays. Read Less

With a home full of furry pets, we were so lucky to be referred here. We have our hands full with allergies, and injuries due to play, and so much more. Having had a few different vets over the years and some bad experiences, we were getting frustrated. Came to Palos for a second opinion and have never looked back. Our pets have seen all of the doctors there. Each doctor has been so helpful, catering to each of our dogs' different needs. They take their time with you, you never feel rushed. Wait times are never bad and the staff always welcomes you and your furry ones with smiles. My girlfriend brings her dog here for annual checkups. It's larger than most animal hospitals/vets that I've used before, with a fairly large waiting area. They seem to be quite efficient. The two times I've come here with her and Baby Girl (the dog) have been pleasant experiences. The veterinarians are very professional and the office staff are very friendly and helpful. I have been going here for many years with my dogs. The staff and doctors are amazing. You can tell they really care. We have seen just about all the doctors; they are all attentive, knowledgeable, patient, and easy to deal with. They thoroughly answer any questions or concerns and always urge you to call if any additional questions. Whenever I've had to call, I usually get a call back the same day, or next morning at the latest. They don't rush you and are considerate. They will even work with you on a payment plan (once I was only able to afford half the bill at the time of visit, so they let me post-date a check for the other half so that it could be cashed a few weeks later). They also understand that money is tight for me, so they don't over-order unnecessary tests and are always willing to try cheaper options first wherever possible. The prices are reasonable, especially for the level of care and service. If your pets are like family to you (as is the case for me), this is the place to take your furry babies. :) They are also usually able to squeeze me in last minute when needed, and I have even been able to have them fill some prescriptions over the phone. Also open for half days on Saturday. They also do home visits which was great for my senior dog who had trouble getting around. Absolutely love it here. All the vets and the whole staff and just so great. I brought my little Mia after she was found outside. When was only about 7 weeks old. They've been taking care of her from day one. Dr. Mills even called me back personally once to speak with me about concerns of Mia having worms. They had no more availability for me to bring her in but still he took the time to call me and allow me to email him a picture. I also had another issue with my cat Mocha and Dr. Sankey told me she was licking excessively to the point she was getting sores. Told me to stay away from chicken, beef, corn, and wheat. Since then, she's healed. The staff is so great and remember you and your pets. I can't imagine going anywhere else. I would highly recommend bringing your animal(s) here. Read Less

NEVER go to anyone but Dr. Mills. Dr. Mills is the only good vet there. He is thorough, caring, and sweet with animals. He is the only reason why I'm not giving this review 1 star. Here's what happened when I took my pet to a vet that wasn't him:My family has been taking our pets here for 25+ years. On Thursday (5-28-15) I took my cat in for a rabies shot & annual wellness exam. I was the only one available to take her, so I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Shepard--TERRIBLE mistake. (My mom later told me she has had trouble with Shepard before). When my cat got her exam, Shepard weighed her, checked her heart rate, then gave her a rabies shot. I was charged $62 for the wellness exam alone. $62 to weigh my cat & check her heart rate. Seriously?My family feels as if Shepard took advantage of me being there since I don't usually take the pets. My mom called back and the receptionist told her to call back on Monday to speak with the office manager. Hopefully all goes well then. But no one in my family will ever be recommending Palos Animal Hospital to ANYONE. My advice: Save your money and take your pet some place that won't take advantage of you. Read Less

This place is amazing. Dr. Mills and staff were so accommodating and kind when I had a bit of a melt-down after my 13yr American Staffordshire Terrier had an apparent foreign object in his colon. I called Palos Animal Hospital on Saturday morning to ask if there were any available appointments and although they were booked solid, they had me come in right away. When I started crying in the waiting area while I was explaining what was going on - I'm a total softy when it comes to my dogs - the vet tech (I believe it was Ashley) was so sweet and brought me into an exam room so that we could talk (i.e. I could cry) in private. After the examination, Dr. Mills thoroughly went over all of the test results and provided me with all of my options. Given it was a weekend, he also provided references for ER Vet Hospitals. After I left, I called him a few times and he was always very patient with me and took the time to answer my questions, regardless of his busy schedule. One day later (Sunday night), my dog "cleared the obstruction" himself! He pooped out a full-size, gigantic carrot. Seriously. Surgery was avoided and my dog was feeling much better! I'm grateful that Dr. Mills didn't rush me into expensive procedures which could have put my senior pup at risk. He gave me really helpful medical advice so that I knew what to do based on my dog's behavior (without jeopardizing the health of my dog). To top it all off, Dr. Mills called me on Monday to see how my dog was doing!! How nice is that?! You can tell the folks at Palos Animal Hospital really care about your pet. They are professional and knowledgeable, but most importantly, incredibly empathetic. I definitely recommend taking your pet here! Read Less

This place just flat out rocks. We had to switch vets from the location we had been and it was under some pretty awful circumstances: our dog had a hip thrown out and a stroke in the opposite leg. We rushed her here and Dr. Sankey and his team were able to get her in surgery with a specialist who was there that very day. We haven't looked back. Two years on, she's great (and went in for another surgery on the stroked-out hip). Dr. Sankey is a fantastic vet and has always given us top-notch care. I can't imagine ever changing vets. My senior citizen chihuahua had the most horrible breath...and Dr. Kleven kissed him on the head. That vet was ace in my book. Dr Shepard is the best vet we've ever used, in Georgia or Illinois!   She's taken care of two of our Dalmatians over the past ten years and we can't say enough about the care she shows as well as her expertise.  She researches thoroughly before making a diagnosis, lays out the options and follows up every time.   Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled, caring family vet!!! Always friendly to me and my pets. They  remember us and make us feel comfortable/welcome. We never wait long and they always answer all of my questions (and believe me, I have a lot of questions).I have a pit mix with moderate/severe allergies and they are always willing to take my calls and squeeze us in when we have mini-emergencies. My dogs and cats are cared for by Dr. Jeff Sankey, who is amazing! True animal lovers, Dr. Sankey and his techs aren't afraid to get down on the floor with my pets (makes them more comfortable). This is truly a wonderful place to take your pets. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the high quality care you receive, but a payment plan option would be beneficial. I've been with Palos Animal Hospital for 16 years. I am very pleased for the most part. The only negative I have is when my one pet was panting for sometime, they sent me to a heart specialist who said there was nothing wrong with his heart, yet we had to put him to sleep a week later. They never figured out what was wrong. I still don't know. Yet, one of my other pets who was 16 yrs old. They came out within a 2 hour notice. They came to my house to put her to sleep & I was very happy with their response. They are very kind, considerate, & caring overall. Their hours of operation are very good.
