My husband and I can't say enough good about Big Hollow Companion Animal Hospital. Our dog, Tater, has been seeing Dr. Malcolm for the last 10 years. Tater has been quite the challenge at times, but the care he has received has been top-notch. When we moved 45 minutes from Peoria, we went back and forth about whether to find a more local vet. Big Hollow used to be awesome.... But they’ve changed. The front desk staff is rude - at least the girl I always seem to talk to is. You can’t speak to a vet for a quick question on the phone without an appointment anymore. They used to just call you back when they had a free moment or at the end of the day. Now everything is just relayed through a rude assistant. We were told that we’d try meds for my dog’s pain - and if it didn’t help, we’d X-ray. It didn’t help. So, I called and asked about when we’d think about an X-ray. The front desk girl said “He (the vet) knows it’s arthritis and it’s just part of getting old.” She didn’t even ask the vet. Ive had dogs and cats at Big Hollow for over 20 years. Now I’m on the search for a new vet. I want the old Big Hollow back. I love Big Hollow Animal Hospital! Dr Malcolm has been both of my dogs vet since I adopted them. He is very compassionate, and takes the time to explain everything. He even handles my Jada very well (she is growly and shows a pretty smile to him quite often). The last time we went in Dr Malcolm was not working. We had just got Karma our new rescue cat. Dr Lindgren saw all three fur babies for different reasons that day. He was amazing too!!! He did a very thorough exam on all three and answered all questions that came up. Dr. TAYLOR and his wife were the first vets I had ever met able to think outside the box and willing to go the extra mile for my dogs. They were the driving force behind saving the life of my very sick Lab and I am forever indebted to them. Dr. TAYLOR is now our only vet since his wife is not currently practicing. He is kind and compassionate, caring, and I it for the right reasons. It is not about the money...it's about your pet. He won't suggest a costly test unless he feels it is necessary. I've had a difficult time finding a vet that we like. After losing 2 kittens to FIP it's hard to trust somebody with your furry babies. I LOVE Dr Malcom and the staff there. They always make a fuss over Bullet & Shell when I take them in. Both cats must sense that I trust him because they are both super relaxed when we're there & their personalities come out. Read Less

The vet services here are great but i will warn you about leaving your dogs here for boarding . They make your dog lay inside a kennel with metal or concrete floors . I got my dog back and his legs were almost bleeding from having to lay on a hard floor . You would think they could at least use a towel to line the kennels floor. Read Less

Dr. Adam Malcom is absolutely fantastic. He has taken care of our pets for nearly 10 years. We have three senior dogs, a senior cat, turtle, Guinea pigs, chinchilla, rats, and we have had lizards as well. Doc has cared for for all of them over the years. Reason for a 1......dumbass people!  They are friendly and the place is clean is the only good comments i can give for this business.  My dog was being taken there for laser therapy and we told the doctor that we wanted her back and both rear legs done.  After 4 visits we find out he has only been doing therapy on the left rear leg!  Maybe we would have known this if we had the same person everytime instead of someone different and also actually got to see her have a treatment.  They refuse to let individuals back there.  WHY?  Doing something shady?  Also my vet tried calling twice to share her opinions and to give information about the  treatments she suggests the dog having and talking about her previous vet visits.  The idiot receptionist kept saying, "no they don't need to talk to you".  My vet was shocked she could not get through to the woman.  She said she was clueless.  I feel i have waisted valuable time and money going to this place.  They are a joke!  Maybe this is why the place is always empty.  Also the doctor thought the dog had a disease which she loses the ability to use her rear legs.  Two vets have currently said that she doesnt have this because she wouldnt have inflammation issues or be reacting good with steroids.  Avoid this place....they are clueless! Dr. Taylor and Dr. Malcolm have always been there for my kiddos. Today we took in my beautiful daughter Cooter and left her in the care of Dr. Taylor. He has seen her every year for almost 13yrs, and she needs him now more than ever. And I know she is in good hands during our sleepless night tonight. Dr. Malcolm has always been there for my son Kakoii as well. These are two of the best vets in all of time and I thank them and the staff of Big Hollow for helping our babies and us, live long, healthy, happy lives. We boarded our Greyhounds at Big Hollow Companion Animal Hospital for five days. When we picked them up, both dogs had lost considerable weight. One lost 8lbs or over 10% of his body weight. He also had a cut on his foot that we didn't find until we got home and sores on his hind end. We didn't weigh our other dog, but she appears to have lost a similar amount of weight-- her hip bones and rib bones were protruding more than normal/healthy for a greyhound. Most frustrating is that we asked to be called if the dogs were not eating or if the dogs seemed too anxious, and we were not contacted at all. In addition, the dogs were also given a fecal exam without being notified even though we were told that all of their records were complete when we arrived. While I appreciate the precaution of making sure all boarders are up to date, I would also want to be present for any exams my dogs might have with a vet they havent seen before. This experience was disappointing and frustrating all around.Read Less

We love Big Hollow the Dr.s as well as the staff, everyone is so compassionate!!! if you've had problems in the past with vets who don't care try them, you are in for a great experience!!!
