It was a week of seizures for my 13 year old golden. The meds our vet gave clearly stated, will leave dog in a drowsy state. He wasn't my pup and I couldn't keep seeing him in that state. We called both peoria and bloomington and peoria sounded a better option. We waited over 2 hrs in the parking lot. I get it. I think we finally got the call to come in around 12:30 AM. My beloved dog laying on the floor, the dr walked in and was giddy. Not at all what I expected. He said something to the affect, doesn't he (my dog) look bloated?!? I just looked at the said "vet" he was very rude, not considered by any means. And actually said I'm sorry it's been a night. What?!? You want to be a dick because you had a night and now you're finally attending to a dieing dog. The entire experience was horrible. I selfishly wish I would have wanted to schedule with my own vet. Volunteer workers or paid...I'm not sure. But to walk into a room when we've waited 2 hrs in the parking lot KNOWING these were are last moments and you walk in all smug and smirking and that laugh. You have no idea how much I wanted to smack that smirk off your face....Dr. I really expected better. Read Less

While trying to introduce two dogs, a fight occurred and my dog received a few good lacerations to her left paw. We called around 9 pm were able to be seen right away, we’re able to fix her up without sedation and sutures, and less that half the price two other vets quoted at. Everyone there was friendly and caring. They understood our concerned for my dog being scared and let me muzzle her for them and took her back to clean up and she came back with no muzzle and super excited! If we ever have an after hours emergency, I will go back to Tri-County! Read Less

DO NOT GO HERE PLEASE CONSIDER ANY OTHER FACILITY IF POSSIBLE. The vet Michael Thompson seemed to be under the influence and had no idea what he was talking about when it came to concluding a possible diagnosis for our dog's sudden inability to walk/stand. He showed zero compassion for our 10 week old puppy, and his only concern was trying to think of any way possible to rack up a higher bill for us. At one point during the beginning of the examination he looks at us and goes "let me take him in the back and see how he does in a cage." Didn't give us a chance to ask what he was doing and didn't explain himself at all. When he comes back he looks at us and tells us he wants to keep him over night, and when we asked why, he couldn't think of a reason other than "to keep an eye on him." Obviously, he wanted to charge us for an over night fee just to get more money even though he told us to go to our primary vet in the morning anyways. Please do not go here. Ended up spending 250 dollars to be right back where I started when I got there. At least we got a crazy story out of our trauma. DO NOT GO HERE! Read Less

I know that this place is in an awful location--and people see them when things are really bad, but I just want to say that they are fantastic. I visited there the evening of 7/26 with a dehydrated gerbil. Although they don't treat "pocket pets," Dr. Zagoda saw my Louise and gave her fluids. They only charged me for a visit (not the $95 on top of the visit which they're supposed to). And the staff was extremely nice. I saw a regular vet the next day who gave my gerbil an antibiotic and pain meds. Still, that night, she was declining, not eating, not drinking, couldn't take medication and started to have seizures. I called several vets (including the emergency vet in Bloomington and the emergency vet at U of I in Champaign) and talked to my sister, a pharmacist and expert pet owner. All said that it was time to make that difficult decision. I called Tri-County and went to see Dr. Metzler and his staff. Both were very, very kind while I said good bye to my pet. They waited for me to pray with her and then allowed me to stay and see her at peace after the painless procedure. When I tried to pay, they indicated that there was no charge for last night's visit. I'm sure I was crying too hard to compliment them on how well they did for me and my pet, so I thought I'd post it here. Thank you Tri-County for being an important resource in our region--and for going above and beyond even when people don't express their appreciation. Read Less

We took our dog in because he was not responsive. The staff was wonderful and caring. The vet, not so much. After we found out our friend had a stroke the vet was very impatient and rude about us talking over our decision. Completely unfeeling. Dr Donna sassman I believe. After weighing our friends survival chances we decided to end his pain. Supposed to be quick and painless right? They even messed that up and had to give him two binjections because they did the first one wrong! This was horrifying and painful for us all. We're so traumatized by this I don't know if we can adopt a pet again. She should be removed from service here and banned from the place! While I'm grateful we have a place to take our pets after hours, and the employees/vets are nice, their fees are beyond outrageous. You could say it costs $500 to open the door. We took our 6 year old cat there last week because she was not moving much, her face was swollen and she was getting cold. They did an xray and found fluid around her heart and a *possible* tumor. She was there for 6 hours before she died. I understand there wasn't anything they could do for her, but an xray, oxygen and hot water bottles for supplemental heat should not cost $1,100. They take advantage of our love for our pets and the fact we are left with no choice to take them there after regular vets hours. Read Less
