Had my dog, Happy, taken in to see Dr. Blaso.The Doctor and Vet Tech- Megan P., were super friendly, helpful, and knew their stuff. You could tell they genuinely care about animals. I felt confident with them taking care of my dog. The previous vet clinic my dog got sent to by the adoption place did not fix the ear infections my dog had. The Plainfield Vet Clinic told me the medicine my dog was given didn't work becuase it was antibacterial medicine and my dog had a yeast infection and the new medicine they gave me worked within days. Dr Blaso was my vet for give or take 20 years. In 2013 my tiny hua hua took ill and was given a referral to a specialist by Dr.Blaso. The specialist was MIA and my sweet dog was being cared for by others. I was in California at the time and my oldest daughter was devastated when our little soul suddenly bled to death after her release. I never received a call from this specialist after she returned from her Labor day getaway. The devastation was two fold, this tiny dog which I found in California was with me when my mother went through unsuccessful heart surgery. So one can imagine the reluctance to go back to anyone associated with this tragedy. I returned back to Illinois and could not bring myself to go back to this vet, even though I trusted Dr. Blaso. I adopted a hua hua in California and she needed her teeth cleaned, by accident I came upon a coupon for this vet for dental cleaning. I felt at this time after thousands of dollars and millions of tears I could once again seek treatment from Dr. Blaso, also the discount would help as I am still paying for her ill fated care. I did not notice the coupon had expired. I called the office to see if perhaps Dr. Blaso would honor the coupon. I received a call from his new male office manager, he was brass, and I did not believe that he had spoken to Dr. Blaso when he said they would not honor the coupon. I called later in the day and asked to speak to Dr. Blaso, my return call was from the same equally combative male office manager. It occurred to me that Dr. Baso had acquired, a buffer, a spokesperson to avoid speaking to people he wished not to speak to. At this time it was not so much about the coupon but the fact that Dr. Blaso was not at his disposal to talk to me at his convenience because he said he already he would not honor it, and because I had not been there since my dog died. I respected Dr. Blaso but when a professional with whom you have been dealing with for years becomes too big to talk to a past client, it defines his character. (I was not expecting to speak to him then) It has taken years to try and get over this, I can not look at her picture, I felt for the sake of my present pooch that I would return to him because I trusted him. Consider this, when someone cannot take a few minutes to say why he will no longer speak to you, you need to move on. I do not need a rude office manager, or a Dr. who has become too big and important to speak to me. I did blame Dr. Blaso for referring the specialist, it did cost me thousands of dollars and my heart still aches for my little Izzy, but I did trust him to care for my pets. I am consumed with guilt, this tiny poorly bred sweetheart with an apple head, crooked eyes, a dry eye, seizures, and missing teeth would soon become victim to a quack kidney Dr. somewhere near Crestwood. To this day I have not received results of her blood work, or the call she promised that Monday. She would die a little over a day of release, blood filling her fawn colored body, I had let her down. It was a scene that brought a grown man to tears and an inconsolable daughter who cried for months. She was not perfect but to us she was priceless. If you can identify with me or not, a sympathy card does not heal all wounds. Dr. Blaso is an expensive vet, and over the years he has prospered by clients like myself only to become unreachable. He is not a Pope or a Prince but perhaps his riches have gone to other places than his pocket.The new Dr. Blaso will become my past. Take my advice if you find yourself in this situation, ditch the referral, cradle your precious cargo, grab your wallet and run like hell. A Dr. holding a grudge, erase him from your address book and move on, I am the one who should be angry his so called specialist was irresponsible If you don't want to live with a broken heart scratch this vet from your list. Ok let me start off by saying that they are all nice and seem to be very knowledgeable. Now that's important cause if I just hit the mega millions for 300 million I'd give them 5 stars. They price way too much which is probably the best they can do. I took my dog in for an ear infection and walked out with my bill being $300. Went to my original vet (went to them cause I moved and they were a lot closer) and walked out $50 so to say their prices are competitive is complete crap. They should have a slogan like "Plainfield vet clinic where our prices will cost you an arm and a leg" seriously I'll taker my pets elsewhere. Read Less

Front desk ladies are awesome but not happy with the vets. First of all, EXTREMELY over priced. We got blood work done here and were charged $60. We then went to our other vet and had the same blood work done for $36. This isn't the first time this has happened to us either( heartworm medicine, etc.) they price match but don't tell you that. The vet gave our dog an X-ray for bladder stones when really she should've done an ultrasound to see the stones better. An unnecessary procedure that cost us $200. Which by the way on the X-ray she said she couldn't see any stones- went to another vet for a second opinion who did an ultrasound and what do you know, he had numerous stones and cancerous growths in his bladder. We will no longer be seeing this vet. The only reason we have hung around this long is because we love the front desk ladies. Read Less

My dog was having digestive issues. We didn't know it was that at the time. I called and let them know my roommate was bringing her in bc I had to be at work. My dog was throwing up and had diarrhea so I wanted to get her looked at asap. They knew my roommate was not the owner as it states on the paperwork and was stated when called. They proceeded to add all these crazy charges on. My roommate called me astounded at the cost! As was I. I made her put me on the phone with the Doctor. She explained she wanted to put her on all this medicine "just incase" this or that might be wrong. Well.... I'm not gonna force my dog to take a bunch of pills without knowing what the actual issue is!!! I took her to another vet and we got down to the problem without having to give her pills. Dr. Blaso is a true animal lover and it shows in the way he cared for our cat, Muffin in a recent home visit. Another doctor was unable to make it to a previously scheduled home visit, and Dr. Blaso went out of his way to come to us at around 7pm to make up for it- not something I could have gotten any other doctor that I know of to do. Not to mention Plainfield is about 30-40 minutes away from us!Muffin is a bit if a wiggle worm, which can be frustrating to most vets and techs, but Dr Blaso and his wonderful tech (I'm kicking myself for forgetting her name, but she was awesome!) showed no frustration or annoyance whatsoever. They were super patient and loving and the exam went as well as I could ever expect from my little cuddle bug and a vet team. I was also impressed by Dr. Blaso's skills and knowledge, as he was able to take blood very easily (from a squirmy cat, no less), and never had to restick. Muffin didn't even cry when stuck, which was a surprise.  He also knew more about cat nutrition than any other vet I have spoken with- most vets we've met have just recommend kibble throughout the cat's life, but Dr. Blaso recommended switching to wet food around age 8, something research shows is extremely important for cats' kidneys. He also didn't shame us for feeding our dogs (balanced, commercial) raw food, as we have also heard in the past. Even though Plainfield is a bit of a drive for us, we fully intend on taking all of our pets back to Dr. Blaso. It isn't every day that you find a vet that cares so deeply about animals and has the competency to match that compassion. If I could change one thing, it would be the availability of a prevention care package (with monthly payments, etc), but Dr. Blaso let me know that he is thinking about how to implement one in the near future. If I could give less than one star I would. My experience here was horrible! When bringing my dogs to get groomed and to get their shots we were quoted a price and then when I came back to get my dogs somehow the price I was originally given went up $300!  When I questioned why the price went up  A woman who I will not name that works there came from the back started screaming at us claiming that she had told us different information. Then she started insulting my sister. The other women at the front desk were extremely nice and tried to apologize for their out of control coworker but I still will never come to this place again! I brought my cat in for a dental exam. During the check-up, Dr. Blaso discovered a heart murmur. He explained all treatment options and risks. Further testing confirmed the heart murmur and we were able to proceed from there. I was very impressed with not only the expertise of Dr. Blaso and his staff, but also their compassion and concern for the well being of my pet. I would like to say how amazing the Plainfield Veterinary Clinic is! Dr. Blaso and the entire staff are the best. I brought our cat Vador in this past weekend who was very sick and we didn't think he was going to make it. I was a complete wreck but Dr Blaso listened and was very understanding and knew right away what was wrong with our cat and acted immediately. Dr Blaso and staff saved vadors life! Given it was a weekend Charlie part of the team gave me updates frequently and took such good care of him. He is on his way to recovery and back home and doing great. Had it not been for them we would have lost him. Thank you Dr Blaso, Charlie and staff for being so patient, understanding and so passionate about what you do! I started to take my cat Dusty to Dr. Paul Blaso back in 2000. When Dusty began to lose weight, Dr. Blaso was wonderful with treating Dusty. Unfortunately my sweet Dusty passed away in my arms while we were in the room at the vet. I received a nice card from Dr. Blaso and he allowed me and my family to have alone time with Dusty. I've since adopted several more cats and I've been quite pleased with the way we've always been treated by Dr. Blaso and his staff. My wife and I brought our puppy Kona here for a spay in October 2014. She caught MRSA and we've been trying to clear this infection over 5 months and over $2k in medical bills later. We live in the Northwest suburbs and only came here because this was the only "approved" vet by the rescue agency. We called to let them know and they didn't seem to care. Stay away. Read Less

I trust no other veterinarian like I trust Dr. Blaso. He was introduced to me by another highly trusted vet who was leaving the area, so he was hand-picked for me by someone who knew how picky I am about my pets. He is one of those vets who is in it for the right reason - - he loves animals! More importantly, he is very smart, compassionate, wise and very easy to discuss options with. He very carefully balances what the customer wants with the best options available for the animal. Example: I had a 16 year-old cat that had traveled with us from Germany and she was one of the most awesome cats I have ever known! She became ill, with her health failing over time, and money was tight. Dr. Blaso gave me numerous options - - here's what we CAN do vs. what can't be done. When my beloved cat made it plain that she was shutting down, I knew what I had to do, even though it was like ripping my heart out! I took her to see Dr. Blaso, and he took the time to sit on the floor with me while we observed my cat and discussed options. Once again, here's what we CAN do - - there was no rush to put her down. Finally, after all was said and done and I had decisions to make, Dr. Blaso kindly told me, "We can spend money hand over fist but this cat is never going to be well again." I knew I had to let her go, and Dr. Blaso told me to take all the time I wanted - - that I could stay in the exam room with her until I was ready. Then he explained in great detail what was involved and what to expect. He also let me hold her while he put her to sleep, then let me stay until I was ready to leave. He hugged me and told me to call if I needed to talk, then sent me a card a couple of days later! I have NEVER known a vet to do that!! I have trusted him explicitly ever since, and he has never let me down. I'm amazed at how he is always willing to entertain new ideas and doesn't become defensive when asked to explain a decision.
