With other places near my house, this has been my go to animal hospital for years. Dogs become family members and Dr. Bobo understands that. They have cared for my dogs when they're sick or well and comforted us when we lost our sweet Millie to cancer. I think this office is wonderful. I had started taking my pet to them when he had torn his CCL and needed surgery. I wanted to find a surgeon that was relatively close in proximity in case anything went wrong during surgery but that had a number of years of experience and didn't charge an arm and a leg. The cost of the surgery was crucial because I was repeatedly told that the other side could go at any time. It was here that I found these qualities thanks to a recommendation of a coworker. The Vet Techs and Veterinarians are super nice and keep you informed. I especially like the K-9 vet companion to that roams the office. I have never had to wait a long time to be seen. I like that there are only 3 vets and no substitutes so you can be assured that the vet you are seeing knows your pets history. They are easy to communicate with by email and phone as well. Although my pets surgery went well there were obstacles during the first year that led to a second surgery being needed because my pet's body was having problems accepting what was placed in him. They have a way of keeping you calm and easing your tension when your pet is not doing well. I have also had my pet seen for a couple issues not related to either of the surgeries when I wanted a second opinion from what his usual vet's office had diagnosed my pet with and have been pleased with each visit. As a matter of fact the last time my pets usual vet diagnosed him I was freaking out that his trachea was collapsing but after my visit was reassure that it wasn't and that my dogs problems were just due to acid reflux. After treating him for that he is doing much better and no more cough. The only negative compared to my pets usual vet is that they are not open on Sundays and although they are open on Saturdays their hours are limited. Read Less

I brought my cat here after I tried taking her to her usual vet and was told that they now see pets by appointment only. For years they accepted walk-ins and I was never notified of this change. Had I been taking her in for a normal check-up I would have made an appointment, but that morning as I was cleaning her litter box I found blood splattered on the side and top edge of the litter pan, and on the bottom of the cabinet outside the box (I have an enclosed litter "cabinet" that looks like regular furniture from the front.). Her old vet explained this new policy to me after I had told them what was going on with her. This may not have been a big deal to them, but it was a very big deal to me. My cat is 14 years old and has not had any previous health issues.  Having suddenly lost my other four-legged baby last year, I was quite worried and upset. I looked for other vets close-by (via Yelp) and came across Elmwood Grove. They had very good reviews so I gave them a try. Although they too are by appointment only, they seemed much more concerned and helpful. They were able to get me in sooner than her old vet, despite her being a new patient. When I got to Elmwood Grove with Aphrodite, everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Everyone.  When I brought Aphrodite back to the exam room they were very friendly and gentle with her. (She's a little scaredy cat who tries to "disappear" by cuddling up to me and getting as flat on the exam table as possible lol). Dr. Heneghan was great. She was very friendly and lightened the mood as soon as she walked in. She said "I didn't know I'd be meeting a goddess today!"  Yup, that's my little Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty. Dr. Heneghan was very gentle, but thorough and talked to Aphrodite as she was examining her. She also gave me a thorough explanation of what could be wrong, what they would have to do to find out the cause, and approximately how much it would cost. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the cost as I was expecting it to be more. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't exactly cheap, but I wouldn't expect or want it to be cheap. I realize that they are also running a business and have to pay all of their employees. They sent me home with medication and showed me how to give it to Aphrodite. That method worked for the first dose, but after that she caught on to me lol. So I had to get creative. They got the results of her blood work back earlier than expected and Dr. Heneghan called me later that day to let me know the results so I wouldn't have to wait until the next day. As I said, this was only my first time here, but my first impression was great. I will definitely be returning to Elmwood Grove Animal Hospital for all future visits. Read Less

I am very glad for everyone that received great service. Due to a Horrible experience I had last year with a different Vet hospital which I legally can't discuss I first came in contact with Elmwood Grove to Euthanize my first pet and was a very good experience even though we had to do what we did. Dr Hegaman was there for us and made us feel comfortable etc. After that I wanted to take my other 3 cats there so started with Peachy who lived with my oldest we euthanized. Made an appt but couldn't get above Dr to an office emergency so we got Dr Bobo. BIG MISTAKE. First visit with Peachy November she examined her to make sure all was ok for she was acting up and not herself. Dr Bobo in like 15min said Peachy was in great shape and did labs all good. In December we took her back for same problems and drooling etc., and Dr Bobo said she didn't see anything after a quick examination and said should do a teeth cleaning. Next day we did and Dr Bobo did a biopsy and extracted two teeth. She sent me pictures of area and assistant or Dr Bobo was holding my cats mouth open after all this with NO gloves. What we talked about on phone and what actually happened was very different. My last two cats go to a vet now that's over two hours away for don't trust any vets here. I recently filed a claim with Zurich Insurance and they contacted me basically calling me a liar without even viewing records etc. Will never settle and want world to know this. So grateful today to Dr. Heneghan for helping our Abby transition peacefully in the animal hospital with us at her side, after weeks of hospice at home. We are also so grateful to Dr. Fox and Dr. Bobo who have guided us in the past few weeks, helping us know what to expect, and, helping us to face up to what we needed to do for our dog, Abby. Her decline was slow, at first, but went pretty rapidly in the past week. You are fortunate if your dog is in their practice. They have a wonderful, professional, kind and efficient staff. We have known Liz who has been there thirty years, since we brought our first dog to them. Abby was a four year old rescue dog when we got her. She was hand-picked for us by a friend of ours who works in a rescue network. She was the gentlest most faithful dog a person could ever want. We are so grateful that she was ours for ten years. I took my first cat of 15 years here to get put down after she battled cancer and was misdiagnosed at our normal vet at Northwest Animal Hospital in Des Plaines Illinois by Dr Schaele. It was an awful experience to have to do it for she was strong and loved like our own child. The Dr here and staff were very supportive and handled it all with very much dignity and respect. Since then we are taking our other 3 cats here for care. Thanks for how you treated us and putting our girl in peace. We will never forget that experience and miss her dearly. We feel so much emptiness with her gone but once in a while the things that made us smile are remembered. No one can take that away. Rest in peace Boo Boo. Read Less

My husband and I can not say ENOUGH good things about this facility. We adopted our pit bull from here 4 years ago and she always loves going back to visit her old friends. Everyone there is wonderful. We just visited today to choose the newest member of our family......a sweet little kitten. It's always great seeing the staff. We used to love bringing our pets here and have been for over 25 years but our last experience is making us reconsider ever returning. Our dog Flint was having major health issues last week and my husband called the office (which was closed), so he called the doctor on call and left a message. We never reveived a call back. He called again, no response. I found an emergency vet office and we brought Flint there and he had to be put down. The following day my husband called the office again and left a message for one of the doctors to call him. Still no call back. What kind of customer service is this? If a doctor is supposed to be on call shouldn't they be available? This was a horrible experience made even worse by the total lack of response from Elmwood-Grove Animal Hospital. Read Less

On Monday June 6 2016 my 1 year old dog English Bulldog Max was having facial tremors and a fever of 104.6. We took him into Elmwood-Grove Animal Hospital. We saw Dr. Bobo who took his blood and injected him with a disposable IV Bag and put him on antibiotics cephalexin. Well 10 hours later Max's fever spiked to 105.6 he started having uncontrollable tremors in his face. I called the ER line to animal grove Dr. H stated to take him to the ER. Hospital. My concern is why didn't dr bobo monitor him all day with her than at end of day recommend that. But no 10 hours later when I called they suggested this. Max spent the night at the ER. All test came back normal with ER. took him to other Vet who found that he had a urinary Tract infection and put him on the correct antibiotics. Dr. Bobo misdiagnosed Max. I called Dr. Fox for a reimbursement of $383.00 he refused stating in a nice way that I was lying. Dr. Bobo diagnosed focal sezuires other Vet has paperwork for Urinary Tract Infection.
