It's not fun to have an emergency. It feels so good to know your pet is in good hands though. My first impression started with a calm and supportive phone conversation. They were waiting for me upon arrival. Great care, a thorough exam, and answers were all given to me asap. I had to leave my baby there and that would have been harder if I didn't see all the love and compassion this place has for animals. I'm so grateful. Unfortunately I was in and out the entire Memorial Day weekend. My dog had a blood transfusion and without this place being open when everyone else was closed I don't know what I would have done. Took my dog here when she was hit by a car years ago. No only was the visit insanely expensive, but as soon as I got my dog on the table n had her looked at they said she needed to be put down. My dig is a pitbull n a very big sweet heart. She didn't have any internal damage but her front right leg was mauled like it went thru a meat grinder. They wrapped her n cause n sent her home with me since I could not afford to leave her over night n I didn't want to leave her with people who wanted to put her down(seemed like because of her breed not the accident.) Took her to her vet the next day n he said she just needed to heal nothing was broken that I should give her pain med to help n cover her wound in honey and granulated sugar to help the tissue growth n keep out infection. A few month later she was right as rain. Now she is 12 years old and this morning I woke up to let her out n she was stumbling n couldn't walk straight n was weak, so I carried her outside where she I stably let herself be relieved on my deck which she never does so I know there is something wrong, my wife made an appointment here today without my knowledge and I will not be going. I will be taking her to her vet in the morning cause I refuse to take my animal to these people when all the want is money n death. And if I do need to put her down I'd rather have it be the vet I k ow and trust than money hungry people that are bias based on the type of dog you have Read Less

My dog had an intestinal blockage and she had emergency surgery at our regular vet, which closes at 6pm. I was able to take her to AME so she could be taken care of over night and have IV fluids. I was so worried about leaving her and not knowing what was going on. They filled me in on everything before I left, let me spend some time with her in back before I left, and gave me complete updates when I picked her up in the morning. I brought her back to my regular vet in the morning and was able to take her home that evening. I had some concerns after our regular vet closed, so I was able to call AME with any questions I had and they were so helpful. I am so thankful for their hours and their staff!!! My dog is home and healing well. They charged me about $300 for an overnight stay with IV fluids, which seems reasonable to me. She was in good hands and that's all I could have asked for. Read Less

Our dog was not doing so well after he was attacked by a pit bull. Took him here because he wasn’t eating and was super weak. They were available at 3am, that was cool. They were super nice but I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone who is middle class. Seemed like they were all about money, paid almost $500 for one visit. Also, I was recommended to get X-rays and was charged for X-rays to be told by the vet she couldn’t see anything. Overall though, they were there for us and the vet was super nice and understanding. Tonight my dog stepped on a nail and I frantically searched for an emergency vet online. I found AEC and I’m very glad I did. I called enroute to their facility and they were upfront about the initial costs and time of payment. I appreciated this (although I would say yes to anything to help my pup). We were seen right away. The entire time I was there the vet techs and doctors were all very helpful, kind, courteous, and very forthcoming with all information. I saw a lot of different animals with their families come in for various issues and they were always treated very kindly. Yes the cost is higher than a normal vet, but remember these are emergency services. And honestly looking at the invoice, the prescription fees are fairly similar to those from a normal appointment. I ended up here when my pup ripped his declaw pretty bad while at a competition and all I can say is they were amazing!! Each person was so kind and caring and understood that my border collie was in pain and scared so they took the best route of action to make it easier on him. The vet herself carried him out to me holding him like a baby!  You could tell that the receptionist, the vet tech and the dr were true animal people (trust me I've been to some vets that aren't) and were so kind. It always hard when you're out of town and can't go see your regular vet but these ladies made me feel so at ease and put my mind to rest and I knew my baby was getting amazing care!! Read Less

I have never been here until today. The day started off like any other day until the late morning where my 3 year old dog began to throw up and shaking and acting unlike his fun loving self. After speaking to a coworker who is studying to be a vet tech she told me it would in my dogs best interest to be rushed here. They were very kind on the phone. When I arrived they staff saw how upset I was. They rushed my little guy in the back (I had wished I could have gone with him, he's scared of places he doesn't know) they kept me updated every 5 minutes. I was happily surprised to see a vet I knew from my work. She was so kind and did everything they could to find out why this was happening to my dog. The estimated cause of what sent us there was a possible toxicity seizure. Which I find odd considering my dog really didn't get into anything out of the ordinary. When it came time to pay I was doing a multiple form of payment. I realized I had rushed out of my house without my card. Because I knew the vet they allowed me to run home to get without any preconditions. My little man is doing so much better. Thought the cause of what sent me here is unknown I'm just so grateful I still have my little man. It may take a few days for him to become his hyper fun loving self again that's ok I have him. We've used this facility twice.First time was several years ago...they saved our Std Poodle from bloat, a turned stomach. They allowed us to call in the middle of the night to check on him. Just took our other poodle to them last night for an infected surgery incision. I had a pet owners worst nightmare.  My dog had multiple seizures and was stuck.  It was about 20 minutes before I took him in.  In the end he did not make it.  Everyone there was extremely kind and understanding.  About 4 days later I received a card in the mail with hand signatures on them.  It is an awful thing to lose a dog.  They seemed to really care.  Thanks Read Less

In the middle of the night when your pet is in trouble, this place is literally a life saver. Dr. Yocum has been amazing. She's smart, kind, compassionate and works hard to help her pets. Staff was helpful as well and receptionist was kind. They let me go in the back and see him one more time before leaving him for the night. They even accommodated my call thru out the night and gave me status updates on his condition. Thanks to this team - my dog is home sleeping on the couch with me tonight. The negative reviews about this business "only caring about the money" is ridiculous. Of course they need to be paid - it's a business, not a charity. Also - before any care is given, they give you a printed estimate of the cost of the treatment plan, which you sign. You know how much it's going to cost before it's done - If you can't incur that cost, you have a chance to speak up. I've had multiple visits where my pet has had to spend the day hospitalized at my regular vet, then transferred to this vet to spend the night. The costs are comparable. Pets are expensive - I budget for it by having a small part of my paycheck go into a rainy day fund just for these things, and it works. Sorry to preach, but it's irritating that reviewers are leaving negative reviews on a business that has saved my pets life - just because they have to pay for the services they requested. You wouldn't leave negative reviews when your hair stylist charges you for those highlights you asked for - this is the same. Read Less

They only care about the money! My bulldog needed to have an emergency spay because she had pyometra. They needed half of the low end estimate. which was 800. Had her run my card not realizing that my banking was down due to upgrades on Saturday and wouldn't b open until the following Tuesday. So I had to take her home. My husband had 1000 on a credit card, so we took her back and they wanted the whole amount of the low estimate which was 1700. So I had to take her back home again. The drs were rude. Kept asking me if I wanted to give her to animal control since I couldn't afford the surgery. I tried telling her over and over that I have the money, but they didn't want to w ait until Tuesday for it. So she just kept as in me to turn her over to animal control. Read Less

I had a emergency with my 10 week old puppy that I got from Furry Babies. He has pneumonia and has been on Oxygen. As of me writing this review the puppy is still in the hospital. He has been there since Sat. Every night. The staff there is AWESOME! They have taken such good care of my puppy. They truly care about there animals they have to treat. The staff has been wonderful, from the person who answers the phone, to the tech to the vet and everyone else in between. They are treating him great and hopefully he will get better. They explain everything to me. I can call there as many times as I want for a update and it doesn't matter what time of the night it is. Hopefully no one has to go to a ER Animal Hospital but if you have to this is the place to go. They are EXCELLENT!!! Thank You very much for everything you have and will continue to do for Tazer. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE...I regret taking my golden retriever. They lack communication, the manager and the doctors are rude except for the receptionists! They care ONLY about your money, the way your pet will be treated and the medicine they will give to him will be based on the money you give them! I didnt know and I was not updated on my dogs condition when he was discharged from the clinic! He was throw in my car and the doctor walked away! We asked her if my dog was sleeping and her response was "he's just very sick" didn't give me any instructions with my dogs medications just handed it to me and walked away. When he was discharged I was told to take him to Hillcrest and I drove there which was a 3-5 minute drive...My dog PASSED AWAY IN MY CAR.....the doctor didn't tell me he was fighting to breathe...didn't tell me he needed oxygen...they claim to have been monitoring him and checking his breathing but that was a lie...if that was the case they would've noticed a change in his breathing. They care only for the money and that is it. The oath that they have on their wall should be taken down! It is full of lies! The manager kept referring to my dog as "it" which I repeatedly told her not to say "it" since I take full offense to that and she didn't care and continued to say "it" Our pets are apart of our family if you really love them PLEASE do not take them here to be taken care of overnight! If I would've kept him with me..he would've survived...I take blame for taking him to the clinic...thinking they were gonna take care of them better than I was but they didn't. Read Less

My sister came home on a Sunday night and her cat just wasn't right. She took him here and, after some testing, it was found that she needed to put him down. It was very sudden; he was fine the day before. Every staff member that we came in contact with was very kind, patient in answering all of our questions and sympathetic. We brought our Italian Spinone, Marko, to the Rockford Emergency Clinic this past weekend due to his high stress and anxiety. Dr. Cohen quickly assessed him and alleviated his pain and discomfort, then continued her tests until she found his prostate cancer. We decided that euthanasia was necessary, and the staff carried that out with so much compassion. We wanted to donate Marko  to the University of Wisconsin Madison veterinary school, and the staff were able to keep him preserved overnight until we could pick him up the next morning for transport. They were so respectful and kind.Expert veterinary care costs money, and an emergency care facility has to charge more in order to stay open. I will not put a price on my dogs' lives, and I shudder to think what Marko would have gone through for the rest of the weekend if this clinic had not been open. I am very grateful that they allowed Marko's life to come to a peaceful end. Read Less

As another reviewer mentioned, the vets seem competent and caring, but the place smells of GREED.  The market, of course, is people desperate to help their pets - why, they'll pay anything.  You will be told to sit, sit, wait, go into an exam room, wait for a doctor to read you your estimated bill, etc., etc.  You must follow instructions!  My dog had a cut leg that wouldn't stop bleeding.  I figured a couple of stitches and he would be OK.  My dog was taken into the back and about 30 minutes later - after asking what was happening - I was told he would require general anesthesia and "surgery."  I asked if "surgery" meant "stitches" and was told it did.  The vet said it would be $400 - $600.  Since I knew that the cut was not serious and that it only needed some good bandaging (which I could not supply  that night), and since I could see which way the final price would be skewed, I said that I declined their service and that the place seemed like a money mill.  She seemed to agree and said "I'm not the owner."  Eventually I was told that they were going to bandage him up and install a "clip" (which I never saw), and, after paying $138 I got my dog back after two hours.  The next day the wound was completely dry and never bled again, so the vet did a great job - without the need for general anesthesia and "surgery."  So the $138 seems like a fair price.  I would recommend this place if they had simply provided the needed service (as was finally done in my case) instead of pushing (very hard) for more expensive services.   If you have a lot of excess cash, by all means use this place.  Or at least understand what their game is and deal with it. Have handled several emergencies for our cats.  They, the staff and doctors, performed in a stellar manner.  The care, treatments and attitude were professional and compassionate.  The diagnosis, prognosis, situation and status of our pets was explained in layman's terms.  Guidance was provided for decision making and none of our questions were derided, but were answered with sufficient explanation and concern. In one case, a determination to euthanize one of the cats was made on the basis of extraordinary costs for surgery and the poor results often made the animal's life a living hell after surgery.  As this was a difficult decision for us, given age of the cat, the horribly painful quality of life now and what it would be like after surgery, we made the decision to put her to sleep.  It was handled by the doctor and staff so professionally and with compassion for the cat and us.  The only slight issue was the pricing on the bill, but given the fact that this was an evening visit and euthanasia was involved, I guess I can't complain too loudly.  I did appreciate the sympathy card, signed by the staff members, that arrived a couple of days later. Late on 5/28 I received a frantic call from my Mother when I was out of town on vacation. She found my beloved cat Frostbyte passed away on his favorite blanket. We were both emotional wreaks, I called my best friend and she came with my Mother and her sister to bring Frostbyte in to be cremated. The staff treated Frostbyte and my family with great respect and I will be forever grateful for that. Even though I was unable to say goodbye, I am very happy that I was able to have the paw prints they took. I will cherish them forever. Read Less

As far as I can tell, the vets are qualified and do a nice job.  They take time and explain the pet's condition and the care has seemed good.  However, both times I've brought pets here, the bills have left me in pain! I wish we could have waited until the morning and brought the dog to our regular vet. The fees seem way beyond reasonable even for emergency care, and my impression is that they recommend more treatment than really what is necessary; certainly more than what would constitute emergency care.  A few stitches on a torn ear left me with a $350 dollar bill for a 4 minute "surgery."  That is outrageous.  I hate to say it but I hope my dog never needs urgent care again; because knowing the cost I'd face, I probably won't bring him back. I brought in a dying kitten only wanting to end it's suffering- they wanted to run $50 of tests when I clearly stated I wanted the kitten put to sleep immediately to end it's suffering. They started paperwork and moving about without any urgency until I insisted it be put to sleep RIGHT NOW. I cost over $125 to put down an 8 ounce kitten. Unbelievable. Everyone using this clinic has similar horror stories. They know they have you over a barrel because we want to do the right thing and they can charge anything they want because there is no other emergency services available. If there was, this place would lose all of it's business. They need to be exposed. Read Less
