I want to thank Hillcrest from the bottom of my heart. The doctor and staff showed so much compassion when we had to put our poor old man down. Even though it is never easy putting your fur baby down, they made it very peaceful for him. They even sent us a sympathy card , that I received today. Just majorly disappointed for not one single doctor to be on duty until 11:00am for a Animal Hospital. This is completely just ignorant when Animals are in need of major health issues. Wait times are ridiculously long. Waiting right now for 45 minutes, not one person has gone back. Waiting room getting fuller and fuller. If your going to have so many patients, have adequate staff for those patients -now at almost the 2 hour mark, still waiting. It's a bit ridiculous to wait 2 hours for a rabies shot. Read Less

Not unusual to wait 2 hours to see a vet. No appointments can be made. Doctors good. Sometimes I feel they are too busy to really care. Be prepared to ask them to questions about your pet and insist on checking for thyroid, diabetes and heart problems. I enjoy the doctor I have and will wait. Very reasonable as far as vets go. This vet hospital poisioned my dog during botched ACL surgery. Less then a year later he was diagnosed with acute kindney failure. So sad to see a healthy lab pit mix that i loved dearly suffer like that. I had to send him away to rainbow road and was the hardest thing for me to do. They over charged a lot of money for meds and never tried to help treat my fur baby after i was told tge bad news.  Before i could find the right vet to treat his condition he took a turn for the worst in a few days. They most likely were the ones responsibile for his present sever health conditions. Extensive blood work was taken years before and after the surgery. He was healthy, feed good and loved his toys. We lived dowtown chicago for awhile and he loved going to the dog parks and playing with his friends. It was a joy to have him.  Best rescue and helped save my life as well. He was 9 years old and looked and acted like a puppy and had no medical issues. Do yourself a favor and go somwhere else if you love your pet.  I miss him everyday:( Read Less

Very kind staff & caring, compassionate doctors. Have met all doctors on staff & it would be difficult to pick a favorite. All are wonderful, knowledgable & take their time to explain things. Wait times can be long if you go in at peak times. But I love the convienance of walk ins being accepted. Their prices are comparable to other establishments in the area. Read Less

Ive been going to Hilcrest since i was a kid. The staff is real nice and helpful in rough times and emergencys are take back right away. They saved my sons cat when the poor guy had little hope for his life. Their clinic is clean and organized. I really like that they break everything down for u and explain things on manner anyone can explain. Love Hilcrest and i refuse to use another clinic for my furbabies. Read Less

Had to wait one hour and 15 minutes Last time i was there Worse yet went in with my foxy few weeks ago who had gone crippled and was terrible pain and told the receptionist he was in pain and was told to have a seat This time waited almost an hour with a dog in pain Found out later that because it was an emergency we should have been taken care of right away And had to put her down It was hard enough to see my dog like that but she should not have had one minute more pain than. I brought in my Mya for surgery on Monday. Dr. Wilder was great, explained everything to me and helped me work through my financial crunch with getting Mya's meniscus surgery. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I now have 3 of my fur babies going there, going to transfer my last one soon. They are really compassionate. More so than CV North. Read Less

I love Hillcrest. They have cared for 5 of my fur babies and possibly more stray babies over the years. I have never had a bad experience. If I've walked in with an emergency, my baby was seen immediately. If I brought my babies for routine shots, I understand if there may be a wait. I have had to use the emergency vet on a weekend also $$$$. The compassion my babies have been shown over the years is amazing! We've been taking our dog there for 5 years now. Yesterday was the last day He will be going there. I'm done. They rush you out so they can get the next dog in there. It's awful. The vet we had did not answer my questions but instead said oh it could be arthritis just give him some joint meds. I don't need a guess. I need answers. They also took my dog to another room for blood work which is fine but then came back in our room to tell us she did his exam and gave his rabies shot in the other room as well. How do i know what you did? That's just stupid. The time of day that we went was slow so why the rush to get us out? No more. I've posted a public plea for recommendations to a new vet on face book. And so many people have told me horror stories about Hillcrest. We are so done with them! Read Less

My Dalmatian has been seen by Dr. Long, Mercer, Kobus, and Hall and we have had very positive experience with all of them. They are all extremely knowledgeable and kind. I have also never had a bad experience with the front desk & they have always been very helpful. I think people should acknowledge the fact they are a busy clinic and they are all working hard and as fast they can to get the job done. We lost or cat snickers last week and it was very hard on us but the staff did everything to help us even sent us a card after she passed. Living in a big city u don't think u are going to get the same treatment u would if u lived in a small town like I did growing up but hillcrest proved that theory wrong. Not impressed at all with the front line staff. I waited over 3 hours to see the vet. They couldn't care less about you or your pet. Just run you through like a factory one right after the other. After seeing the vet and being there for over 3 hours I finally had to ask if they were sending me a bill or should I pay now after standing at the counter being ignored with a sick puppy in my arms for several minutes. Several staff walked right by me obviously avoiding eye contact while I stood there waiting to pay. They all act like they hate their jobs. Doctor Hall was caring and 100% correct with her diagnosis and treatment. I'm very satisfied with the doctor services and the puppy is doing much better after three days just like Dr Hall predicted. I had brought a 10 week old puppy from Furry Babies. Was told to take him to the Belvidere Animal Hospital for his shots and checkups. That was the vet you had to use. Belvidere Animal Hospital is the worst vet that is out there. Don't take any animal there. My puppy ended up very very sick. We took him to Hillcrest. He is still at Hillcrest as of me writing this review. Hillcrest Animal Clinic is the best clinic out there. The people are wonderful, from where you check in to the techs to the vet and everyone in between. Everyone one has been so caring and loving and really wants your animal to pull through. They give great advice. They don't do things just so they can make money. If something doesn't have to be done or if you don't have to give a med they won't. They truly take pride in what they do. That is why they were rated number in 2015. I will always take my animals there! THEY ARE THE BEST!!! They are doing everything they need to do so my baby can come home. Just wanted to thank the staff at Hillcrest. On Monday my little guy, Merry, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. After battling back from diabetes and seemingly on the right track to recovery, he was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor that affected his ability to digest food. Everyone who was present that day and evening were wonderfully sympathetic and kind. Even though it is a walk in clinic, be prepared to wait at well over an hour regardless of time of day/or day of the week. The last 3-4 times I have gone in with my pet, that has been the average wait time to get back into a room, and then there is another 10-20 minute wait in the room.  I felt my time with the doctor was notably rushed and there is very little time to discuss concerns or have questions answered.  What I do I like about them, is that there are several doctors there to consult with each other, which is always a good thing in terms of competent care.  With the exception of one rude Dr. there, I have been very pleased with the care, especially when I get Dr. Jallen.  He is excellent.   I think overall, they are just too rushed of a clinic for me and I don't care for that.  I don't want a mistake made on my dog.  Between the rushed time with the doctor and the crazy long wait times, it's enough to send me packing to another clinic. We were in a bind visiting my in-laws and no one in the area had any available appointments. Thank goodness this place is first come first service so we were able to get in rather quickly in the morning. Dr. Jallen was wonderful! He walked us through what he was looking for, what he recommended, what our next steps would be for each outcome and gave us all of our options. He didn't try to push unnecessary medications or procedures on us and even called on a Sunday to give us blood results. Ultimately, we were very happy with this animal hospital, our vet and the whole experience. I would recommend this place in an instant. I just wish we lived closer so Dr. Jallen could be our doggy's normal vet! Read Less

We just moved to town and did not have a "regular" vet for our Bengal Kitty.  She had a jumping mishap this morning (down 3 flights of open stair case) and missed her landing. She was bleeding and drooling a bit and not moving a lot. We were referred to Hillcrest by our new neighbors and we rushed over to the Hospital around 8 am.  There were about 6 customers in line to drop off for grooming/surgery/etc. This was a bit unnerving with an "emergency" case. We waited in line about 15 minutes but when we got to the front of the line we were taken to a room immediately after a very brief form was filled out and information was input into the computer.   Dr. Long was very kind and thorough. He reassured us that our kitty was ok and that he didn't think we needed any x-rays. Thanks for the $$$$ savings!  We also purchased our flea/tick/heartworm medication and with a 6 month supply we got 2 additional months supply at NO CHARGE!  The only reason 4 stars instead of 5- the Hospital was a bit outdated- we were spoiled at our last vet with a brand new state of the art facility- but the service that we received here was top notch! I have had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Wimmer. He had repaired my dogs ACL and his knee. He was wonderful to my dog and took great care of him. He even took care of an eye issue with my other dog that my vet couldn't figure out. They don't overcharge at this vet at all. I spent hours looking for a qualified vet and I was blessed to find Dr. Wimmer!  I drove over fifty miles  each way to see him and will continue to if needed. The only negative thing is they don't take appointments. You need to get there early to be seen quickly. They have a nice staff that goes as quickly as they can. They constantly clean the rooms after every client and mop up the floors.Be prepared to wait, but know you will be given great care.  Thanks Hillcrest! Read Less

I am severely disappointed. We have been using Hillcrest for years to keep our animals healthy, and they have been great to us. However, after falling on hard times and having our cat become ill, we found out that they dont care about the animal itself. Just the money behind it. We took our cat in, explained up front that we were unable to pay the full bill, but that we would be able to pay in installments and were told "Sorry, we can't help you". It's good to know that our animals do not mean anything other then a means to getting into our wallets. Please, do yourself a favor and find a vet that at least cares, instead of pretending to. I had to put my cat down that I have had since I was 12 yrs old . I am now 24 . I was in the room for over an hour and half . During that time no one came in to get my debit card to pay . After the process , I had to stand in line with my dead cat ! Balling my eyes out . She was wrapped in a blanket and I asked the woman up front if I could please pay . She told me no . She said " there are people Before you ". Then I stated " yea , not with a dead cat. In their arms "! Then she helped me . As I was in line my cats fluids were coming out and onto my clothes . When I left and clamed down I called back and spoke to the manager . She acted as if it nothing was wrong . Very unprofessional . Makes you wounder how your loved ones are being cared for behind close doors . Please do not take your animals here . All they care about is your money not the care nor health of your pets .
