I've taken my cats here a couple times for the basic free exams offered to new pets and some yearly rabies shots and stuff. I never understood why Banfield had such low ratings. Then again, I didn't have a pet that needed extra medical attention until last week. I brought my cat in and learned why they have such horrible ratings. I'm never bringing a pet here again. My poor cat was throwing up everything she ate for three days. After the third day of realizing that this was something more than just eating too quickly and puking it all up, my husband encouraged me to bring her to the vet. I called one night and they told me I could "drop her off" between 7:30 and 8:30am the next day. Drop her off?" Hmm. OK? I showed up at 7:30am the next morning, expecting that they'd give her a quick look over and talk to me about further testing. Instead, they took her in the back, handed me some wellness plan brochures, and told me they'd call me later this afternoon after checking her out. As any worried pet mama that is leaving their baby behind at a strange place, it was hard to leave.I sat around at home all day waiting for a phone call. Finally, early in the afternoon, the vet called me with some questions about her basic medical background and recent behavior. OK. Cool. An hour or two later, the vet called again and asked if I could come in to speak with him in person about my beloved cat. A bit worried at this point, I went back to Banfield around 3pm to meet the vet.He came out and told me all they had done so far was a basic exam -- eyes, ears, throat, heartbeat, that kind of stuff. That's it. It takes FIVE MINUTES to do that. My little girl had been there for SEVEN HOURS at that point. I felt the rage inside starting to boil. He couldn't find anything except a heart murmur and wanted to run a series of tests to eliminate possibilities for the vomiting, lack of appetite, and heart murmur. I asked to see how much the tests costs, so the vet's assistant brought me a paper listing all the exams.. at a beautiful total of $800. The fun part? The wellness plan they were trying to push on me didn't even cover most of these exams.$800!?!? For some tests? WHAT. I don't think so. I asked to eliminate some of the tests and was told they had to run them all just in case. Not in my opinion, Doc. What if it's just a little stomach bug? Or what if they found what they needed in just one test? Nope... they had to run them all. My boiling rage escalated.I told them I couldn't afford the tests. They brought out a credit card application. I gave it right back to them and asked for my cat back. After waiting alone in that tiny exam room for another half hour (I still hadn't seen my darling girl yet), the vet came back and asked if they could at least give her some fluids and a medication to stop the vomiting. YES, please! That's all I needed!Nearly an hour after I arrived, they finally brought my cat out to me. The poor girl was shaking terribly with fright. I. Was. Pissed. I paid a little over $100 for the meds, fluids, visit, and special cat food and left at 4pm. No wellness plan. No exams. The whole ride home, she was quivering in fear and meowing constantly; while she does hate car rides (she meowed a bit during the morning car ride), this was definitely not her normal self. She hid under a couch at home (again, not normal -- even when she was sick) until it was time for dinner. I fed her the special cat food and she was fine. The next day, she was normal again. The sickness went away. I'm convinced it was probably just the flu or something.So...the only good thing about my whole experience was the fluids they gave her and the medicine to reduce vomiting. Whew. I'm very thankful for that. I'm just really angry that they left her alone in her tiny carrier all day long in the back doing God knows what while she shook with fear and then wanted me to drop $800 on unnecessary testing!!! I do plan on going to the vet to check out the heart murmur, but I'm taking my business elsewhere. Never again, Banfield. Read Less
