I recently had the unwelcoming experience of putting down our family Shitzu who was with us for 18 years. Emily began the process by assisting with what will occur and answering any questions I might have (Thank you). Upon arrival, I was directly escorted to a private room where I had the opportunity to spend some more time with our beloved Gucci. Emily introduced Dr. Taylor who was very warm and compassionate. Dr. Taylor further advised on the entire process and what to expect after the medication is administered. Dr. Taylor respected the last minutes I spent with our beloved Gucci giving me the opportunity to say my final thoughts and not rushing me. Dr. Taylor gave me time afterwards to grieve as well after he took his final breath. For that, I'm very thankful to Emily and Dr. Taylor. Going into this I knew it was time for Gucci to be put down because of his struggles and I though it was going to be easier because he was suffering. I learned its never easy though but the staff made it THAT much easier and I thank them for it greatly. Dr. Taylor even took time to hand write a card to express her condolences so Dr. Taylor THANK YOU!!! Read Less

I would live to give 0 stars, but thats just not an option. My pup is a 9 year old pomeranian. She was brought in because over a couple days she became very lethargic, had symptoms, you know the deal. My mother has been caring for my pup for a few years now because i am a single mother and just could not keep up, but lucky for me she has the time to take her. Anyways, my mother brings her in here and they tell her just to run tests it would be atleast 500 dollars but that it could be pyometra. They did an xray and quoted my mother thousands of dollars and said she would have to stay for several days and they dont even know if she would last in surgery because of her age. We could not afford this. My pup has been here several times and had shots and such. They would not work out payment options under any circumstance. So i came up to sign euthanise papers and she comes out with this "idea" (doc Taylor) that she can "relinguish" my pup, do the surgery for free and quote, "give her to a family that can afford her." Keep in mind Bella is 9 years old and i have had this little girl since she was a sick little 6 week old runt pup who was deemed not to make it past a few weeks. Anyways, we took Bella that day, called a coouple other places to feel out options and got one quote of 498 with surgery, overnight care ans fluids, then my mother calls another place, 350 dollars with payment split in half for surgery, overnight care and fluids. This idiot doctor literally tried to take my best friend of 9 years and give her away instead of help us and give us options. Lucky for us, we took that as her having a chance. She is a horrible doctor and ahould be fired for the careless behavior and carelessness for pets. Read Less

Only complaint was the Dr was not very attentive to calling patients back. Now on to the last visit we had a few days ago.. DR. KIMMY is amazing... Completely professional. Extremely knowledgeable.. Excellent manners.. He was completely on the money when it came to a diagnosis without even having done any blood work or test. AHS cared for and treated both of my dogs from the beginning to the end. There were times when I had to wait longer than I thought appropriate, especially when my appointment was first thing in the morning, but those instances were rare and most certainly not in the past few years. And, I never felt any pressure whatsoever from the staff to buy anything "extra" as mentioned in another review. I highly recommend AHS for the kind and compassionate staff, expert veterinary care, spotless clinic, and comfort level I felt. Sure it's expensive, but unless you live in the backwoods of Kentucky - veterinary care IS expensive. Regarding the reviewer talking about the "rent-a-surgeon" I think they're referring to dentistry. Dr. Beth spayed and neutered my pets personally, but a specialty surgeon did work on my dog's teeth a few times. I was informed of this ahead of time and he did a great job. No complaints at all. We experienced the same treatment that other posters mentioned. Having a scheduled appointment, noticing that the waiting room was not at all crowded and promptly being taken into an evaluation room. The promptness stops there. The last time my husband took our dog there they took the dog to another room for blood work. An hour later he was still sitting in the little room wondering where our dog and a live person was. Finally a tech comes into the room and my husband asks where is my dog and the doctor. Tech is surprised that he is even in the room and says I don't know but will check. Tech comes back and says they are still waiting to take the blood sample. Huh? Over an hour sitting in a room by himself, still has not even seen the Vet and the poor dog still has not been treated. I mean how long does it take to draw blood? Reason why the waiting room is not crowded? Simple..everyone is sitting in rooms waiting for their pets to be treated on what would seem to be an assembly line atmosphere. When calling to schedule a spay for a new addition to our family I had a few questions to ask the receptionist. First off, would our Vet be performing the surgery? No, I was told a different Vet comes in and does it. I ask the name of the Vet and I am told a name of a doctor that I had not heard of before. I say, I am looking at the pics of the Vets at the hospital and that Vet is not listed. Why is that? I receive a little stammering and I am told that the Vet that comes in to do these types of procedures is not really a dedicated doctor with AHOS. He comes in to assist. OK...but the website lists all of the bio on each Vet to include practice information, schooling, etc. Your website does not have anything on record for this doctor. So...I then would actually know nothing about the doctor that would be performing surgery on my animal, correct? Now I receive silence to that inquiry. I next ask how much the surgery would cost. I am then quoted a price that was nearly twice as much as other local veterinarians. All of this was very disapointing to me because I remember very well when I had a lot of confidence in this animal hospital but that was a long time ago. Too bad.We took our pet to another animal hospital and the doctor that we met with was the doctor that performed the surgery and not a rent-a-vet. Read Less

I am a Streamwood resident and have three dogs. Every time I go there, I have had to wait at least an hour or more for someone to come in the room and see my pet. I can see once or twice running behind... But every time? When someone finally does come into the room, they talk baby talk to both me and my pet- this is not cute! Their prices are absolutely outrageous. I'm all for supporting my community and it's a shame because they are right down the street from me- I would not use them unless there was an emergency. The vet off of 59 is great and so is the one in Bartlett located off of Stearns. Extremely friendly and reasonable. Have been going here for over seven years now. My experiences have not been five star by any means. I must start by saying the positives; this place is very clean and has professional staff who are very attentive and informative, i like to say its genuine. I have had experiences were we have waited three hours for a vet to see us due to busy unforeseen circumstances. We typically are there for 1-1/2 hours for well visits, we are seen by one- two techs first- this is annoying because if the first tech couldn't up sell you the next one is just a reinforcement. You will walk out of this place with $150 minimum bill for wellness visits. I have even been quoted $1,000 dollars for preventative dental care for my dog and was told i could set up payments, in orderto be payed in full prior to surgery. This place works off your love for your pet, and makes you feel guilty if you don't opt for the recommendations. Three stars goes to the lack of relationship they have with their clients, never received any discount for loyalty or specials for the last eight years. The fact is the up-selling and lack of genuine care for your pets needs and your budget and time is what i have a problem with. I only go for annuals for the last six years for my dog, but would have to find another place if my dog was ever sick. Read Less

This place seems more expensive, be prepared to be bombarded with sales of services that you may or many not need and most importantly don't be afraid to get second opinions from other vets on whether your dog needs procedures done. The vets here are very friendly and top notch. My only negatives about AHofS is that they try to up-sell you on everything, which I think is part of their job - to get the most money out of you. The technician that initially meets with you brings a computer with her to take down information, but it also seems like she is reading a sales script off the screen to try to upsell you on services. This was my 3rd time here and they ask question after question about selling you on multiple services. They also do follow up phone calls pushing their services. I had my dog groomed and her nails trimmed the day before I came in and one of the upsells that the technician asked was that my dog could probably use a nail trimming and they could do that too, but I said no and didn't tell her that my dog already had her nails trimmed yesterday. I was not surprised that she offered that without looking if my dog actually needed it.During my 2nd visit they said they overcharged me on my first visit and I had a credit on my account. At least they were honest about giving me a credit, but why did they over charge me in the first place?Like I mentioned, the vets and staff are very friendly here, but they seem like one of their main goals is sales and it makes a very uncomfortable experience when they constantly push sales question after sales question every time you come in for a visit. Streamwood Animal Hospital has a very slick up-to-date operation with excellent vets and vet techs.  They take time with me and my dog, are very comprehensive when troubleshooting problems, and are very compassionate.  As our dog aged, they helped make his physical problems less painful.  Eventually, though, he was old and sick, and we had to put our dog down and they were unbelievably understanding, took his paw print, which I thought was a very thoughtful gesture.  And afterward, they sent us a beautiful condolence card. Unfortunately, a few months ago we had to put our cat to sleep unexpectedly.  Everyone involved that night was wonderful at this very difficult time.  We are now bringing our new puppy here and they are great with him.  We were having some difficulties getting meds into his ears and they told us to bring him in as soon as possible.  After doing so, they gave us great ideas on how to handle his puppy behavior.  On occasion we did have long waits; but it seems that is in the past.  I definitely recommend The Animal Hospital of Streamwood!! I have been bringing my dogs to Animal Hospital of Streamwood for about 7 years.  I have seen each of the vets at least once and settled on working consistently with Dr Margaret.  A more knowledgeable and caring vet does not exist!  She ALWAYS takes the time needed to interact with my pets in a relaxed and non-threatening environment.  She doesn't let me leave the office until she is sure to have answered all my questions.  My dogs have been treated for chronic diareah, laxating patella, dental cleanings, and heart worm (that was an unexpected surprise when I rescued my Westie).  Their treatments are always well explained and cost ranges are always laid out clearly.  Their hours are convenient and I have never had a hard time getting an appointment that works with my schedule.  I have had experiences with appointments starting late but they are always apologetic and I understand it is because they always spend the time needed to make sure both pet and owner are well taken care of. I used to bring my cat to the "Banfield" at Petsmart, but got so sick of their corporate culture and obvious focus on making high margins. When I moved to the area, a friend recommended The Animal Hosp of Streamwood, and now I have 2 kitties that usually see Dr. Margaret. She has spent lots of time getting to know me and my furries' personalities. My oldest kitty is now 19 years old and doesn't look a day over 12!  Dr. Margaret was able to catch thyroid disease in its early stages and she's been cured with iodine therapy...thank  goodness, because it is impossible to get this cat to take a pill. I also love that they test titers for some of the vaccinations (I forget which ones), rather than inject uncessary stuff. I had some issues with long waits past my appointment time in the past, but they seem to be much improved this past year. I have been taking my dog to Streamwood Animal Hospital since I brought him home as a 6 week old puppy. He is now 10 years old. I agree that the care here is very thorough. I often feel like the veterinarian's take better care of my dog than my doctors do of me, but I also feel that every final decision about my pet's care was mine. Before doing any simple or complicated procedures we were always given a treatment plan with and explanation of the condition, the procedures and the range of the cost of care.  Last year my dog was spread eagle on the floor and looked like a cartoon character when they get run over. He was diagnosed with anemia.  I was made aware that the condition was life threatening. I also made the veterinarian aware that costs were a concern. The veterinarian gave me two options an expensive option of a blood transfusion and a long term treatment plan of medication. I chose the pills. The treatment consisted of blood tests and adjusting the dosages of the medications. Many of the followups were conducted by vet-techs and the blood results and medication dosages were communicated to us by phone by the veterinarian. After 6 months, my dog's disease is under control using very very low doses of the medication.  It was amazing to see how he slowly improved.   We are grateful to that he is now able to be his old "puppy" self.

Read Less

We completely loved this place. We have been a few times and the first Dr. that saw was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Dr. Kimmy called us the very next day with test results and was perfectly kind and professional. Dr Kimmy is newer to the practice but you could not even tell. The Staff at this hospital has always been amazing and very courteous! I would give more stars to this place if it was allowed!!HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend! Read Less
